Telegram gets big update with sharing prevention, member tags, and more

Telegram has received another feature update, something that developers have been doing on a monthly basis over the last few years. The March 2026 update brings some interesting and useful features that improve privacy in one-on-one chats, group chats, GIFs, voting, and more.

Starting with groups, members can now create custom tags next to their names to showcase a group role or just any other bit of information to help you introduce yourself, share your interests, or flex about something. Admins can assign tags themselves or allow users to create custom tags on their own. Those running polls in groups or channels can see when each member casts their vote (only applies to polls with visible votes).

Another big change is the ability to restrict sharing in private chats. This feature was previously available in groups and channels, and now, Telegram has enabled it for one-on-one chats, albeit only for Telegram Premium subscribers. With disabled sharing, you cannot forward messages, save media, or even screenshot a chat.

Other changes in the latest update include the ability to add a caption when selecting a GIF (above or below it), generate instant stickers from a photo with a single tap (you can then add text or emoji before sending), and edit existing GIFs and stickers with the built-in media editor. There is also the ability to sign up or log in to apps with your Telegram account and the ability to send a specific time and date in a message so that the recipient can tap it to create a calendar event or a reminder.
