Signal Private Messenger can now be searched for and downloaded on Windows PCs directly via the Microsoft Store.
Popular secure messaging platform Signal is now available to download via the Microsoft Store on Windows 10 and Windows 11 PCs. The app is a classic Win32 program, which lets you sync your Signal chats from your smartphone to your Windows PC, similar to WhatsApp or Telegram.
This is the first time that Signal has been available on Microsoft's app storefront. Up until now, Signal users have been required to seek out and install the app manually directly from the Signal website. Now that the app is in the Microsoft Store, it can be downloaded and installed in just one click.
The app is still managed by Signal, which means the client is downloaded from Signal's servers, not Microsoft's. This gives Signal ultimate control over updates, meaning the app doesn't rely on the Microsoft Store to remain up to date. The client will continue to pull in updates as Signal pushes them out directly.
Signal is a popular messaging client that prioritizes privacy and security above everything else. Unlike other messaging platforms, Signal collects almost no metadata about your chats and ensures everything sent on the platform is end-to-end encrypted. It also doesn't store chats in the cloud by default, though you can choose to back up your chats to Signal's servers if you want.
Because of this, Signal is often the messaging platform of choice for people who want to share things like confidential information or just to remain as secure as possible. Either way, it's good to see another big name bring their app to the Microsoft Store on Windows 10 and Windows 11.
I recently said the Microsoft Store is now an excellent app marketplace for Windows users, and everyone should be going there to install their apps. Pretty much all mainstream apps are now available there, including the Adobe suite, Office, Slack, WhatsApp, Telegram, Spotify, Apple Music, and much more. If you haven't used it in a while, I'd recommend giving it another try.
