Google adds info for nearly 2,000 toll roads in the US, India, Japan, and Indonesia.
Google Maps already allowed you to avoid toll roads when requesting driving directions, but now it can give you an estimate of how much it'll cost if you select a route with tolls.
First previewed in April, the Google Maps app now offers the option to toggle on or off the toll fare under Settings > Navigation > See toll pass prices.
Toll road fare estimates are based on “trusted information from local tolling authorities” and will take into account the day of the week and time of day you’ll be passing through. Google says(Opens in a new window) the toll feature will cover "nearly 2,000 toll roads in the US, India, Japan, and Indonesia," with more countries coming soon.
Google also says Maps "will have the option within settings to show toll prices with or without having a toll pass," since sometimes paying with an automated option like E-ZPass is cheaper than paying in cash. We spotted toll price estimates on Google Maps in iOS and Android, where it was turned on by default. (Tap Change toll settings under the estimate to turn it off quickly.) We did not yet see the option to choose something other than a toll pass, though.
Allowing Google Maps to suggest toll roads, meanwhile, can still see it recommend them over faster routes that don’t include tolls, so play around with it before you hit the road.
