Currently, Microsoft offers two versions of Outlook for Windows, namely Outlook (classic) and the "new" version of Outlook. Although the company has been trying hard to push the latter to customers, many think that it is simply "hot garbage". Now, Microsoft is interestingly working on a new feature for classic Outlook for Windows.

In an update to its public Microsoft 365 Roadmap, the Redmond tech giant says that it is working on a new capability that will allow customers to set up and schedule meetings through the Outlook chat interface available in the side pane. Through this conversational UI, users will be able to leverage natural language to book slots with their colleagues with the ability to find a time that works for attendees, book rooms, draft agendas, and send invites, all from within the Copilot chat experience. Customers will also have the option to do the same via the Schedule with Copilot button inside Outlook Calendar.

There are many benefits to utilizing Copilot for this functionality. It reduces the load for a lot of menial tasks such as writing agendas, choosing suitable slots and locations, and more. Since the AI model's knowledge is grounded in your Microsoft 365 ecosystem, you can use it for more contextual actions and insights as well, also within the chat interface.

This feature will receive a preview this month in the classic Outlook for Windows app, but general availability is expected a bit later, in March 2026. Of course, you do need a Microsoft 365 Copilot license in order to access this capability.

Microsoft's Outlook service is expected to receive lots of other new features this month too. These include Quick Parts and the ability to run rules on specific folders. It's also expected that we'll be receiving more Copilot functionalities in the near future, given Microsoft's tendency of trying to make Copilot a core component of our daily lives.
