Microsoft temporarily removes one Edge change to fix unexpected issues

Microsoft has started rolling out a small update for users of the Edge browser to address a problem causing audio issues on certain websites. Version 138.0.3351.77 is now available for download in the Stable Channel, so you can get it right now by heading to edge://settings/help.

According to the official release notes, Microsoft Edge 138.0.3351.77 applies a temporary workaround for a bug causing audio issues when playing videos with the AAC codec on certain websites. To mitigate this issue, Microsoft had to revert one of the recent changes (not specified). The real root cause of the problem hides within outdated versions of the HLS.js, a JavaScript library that enables HTTP Live Streaming in web browsers. Microsoft says that the proper way to fix this issue is to update to a newer version of HLS.js.

Another change in the latest Microsoft Edge release is related to the Find on Page feature in Microsoft Edge for Business:

• Find on Page in Microsoft Edge for Business will soon be integrated with Microsoft 365 Copilot Chat. Microsoft Edge for Business is introducing Microsoft 365 Copilot Chat to Find on Page (CTRL+F). This feature seeks to help users more easily find relevant content and save time.

Interestingly, Microsoft Edge 138.0.3351.77 does not contain any security fixes or additional patches. There is only one feature update and a single fix in this release.

In case you missed it, Microsoft recently revealed that WebUI 2.0 changes in the Edge browser enabled significant performance improvements. Now, the browser can render its settings in less than 300 ms, which is nearly instant for the human eye. Overall, Edge is now 40% faster than it was before.
