The OOBE or the initial Windows 11 setup recently received a cumulative update on versions 24H2 and 25H2.
Towards the end of last month Microsoft released the newest preview update (C-release) under KB5095093. Alongside those, Microsoft also released new dynamic updates under KB5102558 and KB5095615 for setup and recovery. Speaking of setup, the company also rolled out a new OOBE (out of box experience) update for the latest couple of Windows 11 versions, ie, for 25H2 and 24H2. The OOBE is the initial OS setup that happens immediately after Windows completes its installation process. As always, Microsoft has published a general changelog for it as the company writes:
"KB5095189: Out of Box Experience cumulative update for Windows 11, versions 24H2 and 25H2: June 23, 2026
This cumulative update improves the Windows 11, version 24H2 and 25H2 out-of-box experience (OOBE). This update applies only to the Windows OOBE process and is available only when OOBE updates are installed."
These OOBE updates will install automatically during setup if the user has an active internet connection.
In a separate document about OOBE, Microsoft explained what these OOBE updates deliver. It also notes that the downloading and installation time of the update depends on the users' hardware and internet connectivity.
It says that during the Out‑of‑Box Experience (OOBE), Windows automatically downloads and installs critical driver updates and zero‑day patches (ZDPs) once the device is connected to a network. These updates are mandatory to ensure proper device functionality and cannot be declined. Users are notified when the system is checking for and applying them.
If a newer Windows version is available than the one pre‑installed, the device may also receive the latest Windows updates during the final stages of OOBE, depending on the OS build. In such cases, the update package is downloaded and installed before setup completes, ensuring the device starts with the most current security and feature set available.
