A new PowerToys update is now available for download. Microsoft has just released version 0.94.2 to address a bug with the previous update. You may remember that a similar bug was patched with the 0.94.1 release almost a week ago, and today's release fixes that install preventing bug from GitHub, winget, and the Microsoft Store again.

According to reports on GitHub, installing PowerToys 0.94 sometimes gets stuck with the following bootstrapper error: Failed to load SilentFilesInUseBAFunction.dll (0x8007007e). This behavior was observed when installing PowerToys from any source (GitHub, winget, or the Microsoft Store) with or without elevated privileges. Now, following version 0.94.1's release which did not fix the error, 0.94.2 is now available for download, with a slightly updated changelog:

    • #41853 - Installer: Fixed the missing vcruntime dependency error that blocked installations and caused the “Failed to load SilentFilesInUseBAFunction.dll (0x8007007e)” bootstrapper failure, restoring successful installs from GitHub, winget, and the Microsoft Store.

In case you missed it, PowerToys 0.94 was released earlier this month with a couple of much-needed improvements. The app now has a dedicated search bar, allowing you to quickly find necessary settings and modules. PowerToys now has a shortcut conflict detector in case you have a bunch of actions assigned to a single shortcut, plus a new gliding cursor mode for Mouse Pointer Crosshairs, which offers improved accessibility.

PowerToys 0.94 was not the biggest feature update, but in version 0.95, developers promise to introduce several major changes. For one, look out for a new module that will take care of automatic theme switching in Windows 11 based on your schedule, plus a fully revamped Keyboard Manager user interface.

You can download PowerToys 0.94.2 directly from GitHub, or the Microsoft Store. Additionally, you can run Windows Terminal and type winget install Microsoft.PowerToys -s winget.
