Version 1470.0.3912.98 has been released with fixes for PDF renderer crashes when working with certain documents, plus plenty of security fixes.

Microsoft Edge users have a new update to download and install. Microsoft released version 147.0.3912.98, a minor update for Edge 147, to address various security issues and fix a bug with the browser's built-in PDF viewer.

The release notes for Microsoft Edge 147 contain a few changes. There are no new features or major changes, except for a single fix for a bug causing PDF rendering issues when working with certain PDF documents. Microsoft explains it as follows:

    • Fixed an issue that could cause the PDF renderer to crash when printing PDFs protected with Azure Information Protection (AIP) or Microsoft Purview Information Protection (MIP).

For reference, Azure Information Protection (AIP) is a special system that protects documents and files by flagging them as internal, confidential, or highly confidential and limits viewing, editing, copying, or sharing. Microsoft Purview Information Protection is a successor to AIP with more advanced features and broader compatibility with cloud-based services.

In addition to fixing printing PDF documents, Edge 147.0.3912.98 addresses multiple security vulnerabilities that originate from Chromium. There are no Microsoft Edge-specific features, but the changelog is full of Chromium vulnerabilities, three of which are marked as critical.

Microsoft also released Edge 146.0.3856.139 in the Extended Stable Channel. Its changelog has even fewer changes, only claiming that the update "fixed various bugs and performance issues."

Microsoft Edge can download and install available updates in the background, but you can also force-update the browser by heading to edge://settings/help. The next feature update, Microsoft Edge 148, is expected in early May.
