If you think that Microsoft is obsessed with AI these days, you are hardly wrong. Almost every announcement from the company has some sort of AI in it, and Microsoft Edge is not immune to it, with its newly launched Copilot Mode. However, it is not all-AI. Microsoft is working on improving existing features in its browser, and future Microsoft Edge updates will bring welcome enhancements to the browser's autofill capabilities.
Microsoft Edge 142, which is currently available in the Beta Channel ahead of its public release in a couple of weeks, improves form autofill by asking if you want to save the entered address data. Microsoft says that this change should reduce unwanted entries in the future:
Improved Autofill experience in Microsoft Edge. When users fill in an Address on a form, they'll be prompted to choose whether to save it for future Autofill suggestions. This enhancement ensures Autofill data is saved intentionally by users and reduces unwanted entries as part of their Autofill suggestion. Note: This is a controlled feature rollout. If you don't see this feature, check back as we continue our rollout.
In addition to that, Microsoft is working on additional WebUI 2 updates for the Edge browser, which enable significant performance improvements. An entry in the Microsoft 365 Roadmap recently revealed Microsoft's plans to migrate Edge's PDF viewer to WebUI 2. Microsoft has already upgraded a lot of parts of its browser to WebUI 2, and according to one of the latest updates from the company, it has reduced load time by 40% for over a dozen different Edge features.
If you want to try the updated autofill experience in Microsoft Edge 142, you can download the latest Beta release from the Microsoft Edge Insider website. Just keep in mind that the feature is rolling out gradually, so it might take some time to appear on your PC.
