Microsoft released the Windows 11 KB5083631 update, improving performance, reliability, file handling, memory management, and more.
Towards the end of last month, we learned about Microsoft's internal "K2" plan with which the company is trying to make Windows great again. It is no secret though that the tech giant has realized Windows 11 needs to be better especially in terms of its performance. Earlier this year the company had explained how it planned to do so, and with its recent Windows Insider release preview build Microsoft laid out all the improvements that would soon be available to Windows users with the KB5083631 update.
As such, earlier today, Microsoft released the Windows 11 preview update KB5083631 (Builds 26200.8328 and 26100.8328) to non-Insiders introducing a set of performance and reliability improvements across multiple system components.
The update includes refinements that enhance performance during UI interactions such as signing in, navigating the interface, and using core features like Task View and taskbar menus. The changes are designed to reduce latency and improve the consistency of everyday operations.
File management also benefits from performance tuning as updates to underlying system processes improve how users interact with file-related functions; this should contribute to smoother execution when accessing or organizing files. The update also enhances the reliability of the underlying explorer.exe processes, reducing instances where system resources remain tied up after closing the app, thus refining the memory management efficiency. Speaking of memory management, the Delivery Optimization process for Windows update downloads has been improved so that RAM usage should be reduced.
Aside from that, Microsoft also promises better system startup performance as well as a more snappy experience when navigating through the storage settings, similar to the File Explorer improvements above. It writes:
-
This update improves performance when viewing storage information for large volumes in Settings > System > Storage > Advanced Storage Settings > Disks & Volumes.
- Improves performance of launching startup apps after boot (apps which display under Settings > Apps > Startup).
You could also get an even faster experience in regards to system startup with the latest Rufus update which lets you strip default Microsoft apps.
Hope you enjoyed this news post. Feedback welcome.
