Back in early August, Microsoft first announced that it was planning to remove the legacy Calendar from Teams. The new Calendar in Microsoft Teams is meant to unify and integrate, among other things, Microsoft Copilot and Microsoft Places. The idea is to help streamline collaboration by offering a consistent calendar experience across Teams, the new Outlook for Windows, Outlook on the web, and Places.

According to Microsoft, the redesign aims to “enhance productivity across Microsoft 365” by combining familiar calendar functions with AI‑powered features from Copilot. The move marks the latest step in Microsoft’s broader effort to combine (almost) everything in its productivity suite with Copilot and AI.

If you recall, the tech giant first expressed interest in bringing over the calendar experience from the New Outlook for Windows over to Teams back in October last year.

Once deployed, Microsoft stated that the new Calendar will become the default, and the option to switch back to the old version will be removed. The company confirmed that the legacy calendar experience would be phased out and deprecated, and the toggle between old and new views would no longer be available.

The change was likely going to greatly affect users accustomed to the legacy interface. As such, organizations and enterprises that relied on the older layout will need to adapt, as only the new Microsoft 365 calendar would have been accessible going forward since Microsoft had not announced a rollback option.

With the latest update, Microsoft has backtracked on the rollout of this change for some following some potential backlash and negative feedback as it has "apologized for any inconveniences". The new schedule is given below:

    • Public Preview: Early November 2025 - Mid-November 2025

    • Targeted Release: Early November 2025 - Mid-November 2025

    • General Availability (Worldwide): Early November 2025 - Mid-November 2025

    • General Availability (Gallatin, GCC, GCC High, DoD, USSec): After further review Microsoft has decided not to proceed with this change at this time. It has apologized for any inconvenience.
