Google Chrome has been updated to version 139. This is the 2nd stable update for Chrome stable this week.

Chrome 138 received a point update a couple of weeks ago to fix a 0-day security threat, but Google released another one a few days ago to patch more security issues in its browser.

One of the vulnerabilities has been tracked as CVE-2025-8292, which has a high severity rating. The issue is described as Use after free in Media Stream, which could be potentially exploited by a remote attacker who targeted heap corruption via a specially crafted HTML page. The bug was reported by an anonymous researcher on June 19, 2025. This bug does not appear to have been exploited by attackers.

Google says it also patched various fixes from internal audits, and other initiatives, but did not explain what the issues were, what they affected, or how they were fixed. The security fixes were patched in Google Chrome 138.0.7204.183/.184 for Windows, Mac and 138.0.7204.183 for Linux, 138.0.7204.179 for Android. Google says that these versions are rolling out to users. But, just a day after releasing the update, the Mountain View company has already released an early stable update for the next major version of Chrome.

Chrome version 139.0.7258.66 for Windows and Mac, 139.0.7258.60 for iOS, 139.0.7258.62 is rolling out to a small percentage of users. Chrome for iOS adds an option to customize the new tab page. Tap the Edit icon at the top of the screen > Themes, shortcuts and more. I don't have access to the feature, so it is likely rolling out to users.

On a side note, Apple has updated Safari to version 18.6 with some security patches, including a fix for CVE-2025-6558, which Google fixed in a Chrome update two weeks ago. It's worth mentioning that Chrome 138 is the last version to support macOS 11 Big Sur. Users will need to upgrade to macOS 12 or above to receive the Chrome 139 update and newer versions.

Chrome 140 will enter beta next week, and is expected to be released at the end of August.
