After months in development, DevToys, a multi-faceted toolkit for developers has reached version 1.0. The platform, promising to be the “Swiss Army knife for developers”, has a dedicated website. However, it is actually an application containing several open-source tools that website and app developers need regularly.
DevToys has a GitHub page, a Microsoft Store listing, as well as a dedicated website now. All three were updated this week to indicate that version 1.0.0.0 is now available to the general public. The page, listing, and the official website claim “DevToys helps in daily tasks like formatting JSON, comparing text, testing RegExp.”
The developers call DevToys the Swiss Army knife for developers. But they insist that not only developers but non-developers will find the app useful as well. The app has a neatly organized collection of tools. They are arranged into groups labeled Converters, Encoders/Decoders, Formatters, Generators, Text, and Graphic. It is free to download but can be re-distributed as trialware or shareware (although its developers prefer not to).
DevToys has been under development since September 2021 and has reached version 1.0.0.0 this week. Smart Detection is one of the app’s highlights. Enabled by default, the feature auto-detects the best tool depending on the content that is copied to the clipboard.
The app can be run locally on Windows 10 and Windows 11 PCs; developers need not have internet access to use the tools in the app.
Developers generally rely on third-party websites that promise to offer the functionality that DevToys has. The creators of DevToys also allow multiple instances of the app to run at the same time which means that developers can execute multiple tasks simultaneously. The closest competitor to DevToys is CyberChef.
