X has released a brand new version of its app for Android which should make it easier to launch new features faster.
Over the last year, X has been rebuilding its Android app under the leadership of Head of Product at X, Nikita Bier. Today, the company has finally released that new updated app, promising that it is faster, smoother, and way more reliable.
The company has not yet completed the upgrade, it said that more improvements are to come including hosting Spaces and performance improvements for older devices. Bier called this the “completion of one of the largest engineering projects in the company’s history.”
Bier says that the app has been built entirely from scratch so that new features can be built at “lightning speed.” He thanked 11 other engineers who helped him build the app so it seems that the team was around 12 in total, and the development took “well over a year”, according to Bier.

He admitted that the app still has some rough edges so the team wants feedback from users, however, they are working quickly to bring hosting Spaces and improve the performance on older devices.
Responding to a comment from the public, Bier said that other new features being worked on for the app include React with Video, Video Editor, and Spaces. The app also includes several new features right now including Cashtags, Custom Timelines, and more. Bier also said that when other new features land, they will hit Android before iOS.
This whole development is great for international users where Android tends to be more widely used than iPhones. For many years, some popular apps have brought new features to iOS first, but by targeting Android users first, X could make itself more appealing to Android users.
Let us know in the comments if you are still using X and what you think of this new update if you’ve received it.
