Microsoft today released a new firmware update for the Surface Duo 2. Version 2022.106.38 with security updates and improvements is now available for the second-gen dual-screen smartphone from Microsoft.
Unlike the February 2022 firmware update that brought bug fixes and performance improvements, the March 2022 release contains nothing but security patches. In the official release notes available on the Microsoft Support website, the company says today's update "addresses scenarios outlined in the Android Security Bulletin for March 2022" and has no device-specific improvements.
The March 2022 firmware update for the Surface Duo 2 requires approximately 220MB of free space. And no, this release does not upgrade Android 11 to Android 12. However, Google recently confirmed that the Surface Duo 2 would get Android 12L alongside other dual-screen and foldable Android smartphones.
Note that today's firmware update for the Surface Duo 2 is not available on the original Surface Duo. Microsoft released the March 2022 update for the Surface Duo 1 two weeks earlier. The latest firmware improved Your Phone and Surface Slim Pen 2 support, plus it carried various stability enhancements and other critical bug fixes.
