Thanking the topic starter for his/her contribution to the forum is a great way of supporting the community. It shows your appreciation while it also provides a stamp of approval for other members and it provides the poster with the positive feedback he/she may be looking for. However these thanks posts do cause a lot of unnecessary "clutter" which is why we introduced the "Like / Thanks" button. The "Like / Thanks" button should be used when thanking another member or showing your appreciation in any other way. This also means it is no longer allowed to post a lot of generic "Thanks for the update" posts or anything of the like. Now don't worry, we're not banning the practice of thanks posts entirely, but we have added the following line to the Community Guidelines: "The use of the 'Like / Thanks'-button is preferred over simply posting 'Thanks' or something similar. Making an excessive amount of posts which add little to nothing to a topic might result in a post count reduction."

Some of the iconic ones which we thought were great at that time have been replaced, succeeded or been made irrelevant due to improvements in technology and competition. Some sites in past were more known for their premium offerings and users sharing those premium accounts, rather than them being known for their features and services. Gone those days when the only way to download even a small 2MB file required one to wait 2 to 5 mins unless one paid for it's premium service. Not to forget there was a monopoly between just a few of the file hosts available. Thanks to major improvements in internet speeds throughout the world and improvements in file storage technology, both in speeds and sizes, those outdated, monopolistic, greedy and unfair file hosts are behind us. Yet, in spite of so many improvements, there are file hosts on the internet which still engage in questionable practices like: - Prevention of free downloads of big files. - Inserting timer on even small files to download. - Overloading the download pages with ads even when using ad blockers. - Running affiliate marketing by paying uploaders money for downloads. These above things are among the many things wrong with some of the modern day hosts. All these things, we at nsane.forums feel are against the spirit of file sharing. Spirit that inspires free movement of files without any strong restrictions. These are the type of hosts which we want to disallow to be used on nsane.forums. This is why, we at nsane.forums felt that we needed to do something about it. Years ago, we started banning sites which we felt were bad hosts and were against the spirit of file sharing. While this proved effective in countering bad hosts, it raised important question for the uploaders and even downloaders alike. That question is, which hosts to use and which are the good hosts. While there are some great multi-host sites, sites which give ability to both uploaders and downloaders to upload and get same file from various different hosts. But even those sites might have some hosts which are not good and the question still remains. Which hosts to use. This is why, we at nsane.forums have decided to make a small list of file hosts which we feel are good for downloaders and uploaders. This list has been made after some tests.
