The file looks suspicious because it does nothing when you run it, but it works reseting trial period.

Scanned by Virustotal.com, if you don't trust me do a scan yourself.

Note: Close Vipre processes, place fix into Vipre folder, run it. Done.

About the "patch". It's not patching anything. It simply copies a file named RegistrationConfig.XML to Path=%ALLUSERSPROFILE%\Application Data\Sunbelt\AntiMalware

I really don't get that instruction given.

1.Install the program but DO NOT open/run it. (I used it with the program running)

2.Close its services if they're running in the background (use Task Manager or via Control Panel-Administrative Tools-Services/need to reboot your PC). (I certainly did not)

3.Now copy the patch into Vipre's main directory and apply it. (No need to do that)

NOTE:

Sometimes, when applying the patch, its window doesn't show up. (What window - the script is set to silent - Silent=1 Overwrite=1)

But don't worry, just be sure to run the patch. You'll have

always a 15-days 100% fully functional trial.

why do i need to download the latest definitions? wont it autoupdate?

btw, ive once tried this fix. i had shutdown problems after that, i think it was explorer.exe or loaded programs wont close properly. well it was either the fix or vipre that did it, does anyone experience this problem? how does the fix work with newer version updates from time to time? are new fixes required?

another thing, does it mean i have to restart my pc every 15 days?

It seems better then nod on memory usage and scan speed. but with little people using it no bugs are getting found.

XP Pro Service Pack 3 - VIPRE Works Fine.

Even though this might out do nod32 on memory -> The program might be useless in the virus protection.

Test it, get an old machine put VIPRE on download some virus's lol ;p

Well I am testing this and I must say I am disappointed because it looks so good on paper but in real life not so much.

I have no idea how they came up with those bogus memory benchmarks but I am seeing right now with my own 2 eyes:

SBAMSvc.exe 59MB and sometimes up to 79MB cpu usage varying up to 50% which is max of 1 core.

SBAMTray.exe 45MB

sbamui.exe 82MB

This is during a full system scan. I'm not so good in math but I am pretty sure those figures are different from what those benchmarks suggest. Screenshots can be provided upon request.

Also I could see why they don't include definitions with the program, the definitions folder is close to 200MB.

I might still keep it even though Sunbelt is misleading users with false benchmarks. ;)

I can't believe nobody else has looked into this as yet. I almost forgot to mention, a quick scan picked up a false positive which I am greatly disappointed in, it bagged Elcomsoft as malware when it's really a commercial password cracker. Things like that piss me off, atleast the developers of Avira were kind enough to rectify that problem when I emailed them about it, I wonder if Sunbelt would do the same. I am doing a deep scan now so I will report back if there are more FPs.

No problem. I just finished the full deep scan and it came up with 7 results, 6 are false positives and 1 is a real virus I have in a zip file for testing purposes. It detected 4 keygens as trojans, and 2 legitimate programs including dBpoweramp WMA 10 codec plugin, LOL. I should note that Malware Bytes, Trojan Remover, and NOD32 does not detect any of those false positives, only the real virus. I have to say this is really a disappointing result for me. I was very excited about VIPRE. Nobody take this personal please but frankly speaking I have to say I think VIPRE is a pack of shit. Nevertheless I will keep it for a while and see how it goes. I want a second real time protection that won't hog resources incase NOD32 ever misses anything.

Give it a try yourself, lol. before you do any scans, make sure you set the default action to prompt user else expect half your keygens to end up quarantined :D. If you get similar results to what I got then it will be a confirmation that mine wasn't just a bad fluke. Also if anyone else confirms similar results it will be a sign for me to remove VIPRE. Don't worry, one good thing about VIPRE is their uninstall is somewhat clean, the only possibility of remaining folders for you to manually delete are the Sunbelt folder in Program Files and in All Users\Application Data. I emailed them about the false positives but I got no reply as yet, will update you guys if they ever reply.
