M$ gives up on My prefix for Longhorn folders.

It will be some time before the first beta version of Longhorn will appear, but already the emerging details point towards a change in the Microsoft’s concept regarding operating systems.

Folders as My Computer, My Documents, My Pictures and so on will be renamed in Longhorn. Don’t be afraid, they won’t get new names, it’s only that Microsoft decided to drop the My prefix.

From now on the folders will be called simply Computer, Documents, Pictures and so on.

Microsoft considers that it’s high time to give up on this names, which have long been the symbols of Windows OS, because, in the company’s opinion, PCs have become shared work instruments, and do not inspire the same feeling of alienation Microsoft felt responsible to overcome by inserting the prefix My.

The nostalgic users should know that the prefix My will still be available in denominations as My Search Page, My E-bay and so on, and if you’re really bonded to these denominations, it is likely that Longhorn will allow you to rename the folders with the prefix My in front of them.

"Computer" by it self sounds a little wierd. They should just replace the "My" with the users name, i.e. "John's Computer" or "Sarah's Pictures". But whatever...
