Thanks a lot for the giveaway, Myna. :P

ProtonVPN is one of the newest and the best VPNs on the market. I always wanted to have it as i own a protonmail account and their VPN seems to be on top.

I need a good VPN in order to maximize my privacy.
I followed them on twitter.

I also created an account.

I also shared this giveaway there:

For the moment, it's sound @Myna like one very good advice. Because I didn't met any trouble yet with ProtonVPN (everything seem's to work fine).

For me, the function called Secure Core was a very good surprise. And there is another advantage because you can choose the server yourself (for each country available).

But there is one drawback because you can try only the free plan. Apparently (even for the trial period), you don't have the choice. Because at first, you must register the account data (credit card, name, etc). Otherwise you can't try any anothers plans (Basic, Plus and the latest one called Visionary).

Unless I miss something ? I don't believe because I had check a few times.

## Just one reminder and another warning : "must avoid to disable"
lockPref("dom.indexedDB.enabled",true);
## Because it will create one trouble with these websites :
- etc
## This list is just to give a few examples (and according to my memories, no I haven't met this trouble very often).
##--------------------------------##
- https://protonmail.com/compatibility
## From the console browser, you will find this kind of message :
## "InvalidStateError: A mutation operation was attempted on a database that did not allow mutations [...]"
## "Exception: InvalidStateError: A mutation operation was attempted on a database that did not allow mutations."

Did you successfully signed up to the free plan? Or were you asked for credit card details for sign up. If you're unable to sign up without providing a credit card, that's because you have to choose the free plan while signing up. Don't choose Basic, Plus or Visonary.

Once you're done with the sign up, download their client and login with your details. You'll get a free trial of all the features + servers for 7 days. After 7 days, you'll be moved to the free plan. You'll still have unlimited bandwidth but only on certain servers.

Edit: Idk how I missed that.... but looks like you've successfully signed up to them but didn't receive the 7 days trial. If so, please contact their support staff.

Giveaway is good. However, Admins@DKT27@shought@Lite/Staff @Batu69@jalaffa@anuraag@Karamjit Lal/Mod@Reefa@jordan4x@LeetPirate need to clarify the below to the nsaners:

  1. Is this really a ProtonVPN's special giveaway/contest for our forum? Pro-Nsaners are never gonna believe until proved since we have some stuff that would create trouble to ProtonVPN/Mail team in future.
  2. Also, why the need to install free version and how could they check installation of users esp. while or after giveaway while ProtonVPN's core idea is privacy?
  3. If this is @Myna personal giveaway, then how can the member track the installation? Also, is this developer giveaway as it says "Participants have to register for a free account to enter this giveaway"?
  4. Have the Admins/Nsane team sold/shared the nsaners details to @Myna / ProtonVPN?

PS: Windscribe contest is a valid one since it doesn't scare users with this:

"Participants have to register for a free account to enter this giveaway. ProtonVPN will verify if the account was created during the time of participation or after the announcement of the winners."

Your points are valid: I'll clear your doubts here.

  1. Yes it's offered by ProtonVPN. I've shared a screenshot of an email to prove that. You can check the 1st page of this giveaway.
  2. When you register a ProtonVPN account you get 7 days of their premium service for free. If you don't win, I won't be asking you anything. But if you do, and and on checking upon your account it is found that your account has 7 days of trial left, you'd be disqualified.
  3. It's not a personal giveaway.
  4. No.

The reason why you need to create an account is because ProtonVPN wants to expand its userbase. Why do you think that these companies provide these licenses?

All the rules are clearly laid out in the post. No one is forced to join. It's their own choice. Nsane Admins respect your privacy and so do I. This is why I haven't made social media stuff compulsory. Active ussrs are even allowed to use VPNs. Things doesn't get any better than this, for you guys.

I can talk to them and remove that rule and instead do the giveaway just like any other forum by making the social media stuff and no vpn use compulsory. Would you like that? Look at the bright side of things.

Edit: this is just a personal view. It might not be applicable to all. But I think all the VPN providers keep a note of when the account was first created. Goto Windscribe VPN account and you can clearly see when you first registered.

you should read / know / think about this before you use protonmail Mail / VPN

Quote

Jurisdiction

ProtonVPN is based in Switzerland. On the one hand, this is a country that has famously strong privacy laws, is not subject to EU legislation, and is not a member of the Five Eyes (or even Fourteen Eyes) US-led spying alliance.

On the other hand, Switzerland has passed some alarming new surveillance laws. These require Internet Service Providers (ISPs) and telecoms operators to store detailed metadata connection logs for 12 months. What isn’t clear (because the wording of the laws themselves isn’t clear) is whether these logging requirements apply to email and VPN services.

A statement by Proton, updated in 2017, says:

We appreciate that the Swiss government has recognized the leading role that Proton Technologies AG plays in developing the cybersecurity tools of the future, along with the role that we play in the economic re-orientation of Geneva, and Switzerland as a whole towards the high tech sector, and sought a meeting with us to discuss how to ensure both security and privacy in the digital age.

“As a participant in these discussions, we can confirm unequivocally that upon implementation, the provisions regarding data retention introduced by the BÜPF will exempt companies like ProtonMail and ProtonVPN which are not major telecommunications operators.”

This sounds great, and may well indeed be the case. However, it does mean taking Proton’s word on a promise made to it behind closed doors. Whatever the practical implementation of the new laws will be, the letter of the law remains worryingly vague.

Who wants to have a sound statement about the company, etc. could ask the members of the CCC Switzerland

Looks like some nsane users are worried about their privacy as the username of the winners will be shared with ProtonVPN. So here's a little detail you might want to know.

Usernames are asked just so ProtonVPN can confirm that you've created the account prior or during the duration of the giveaway and not after the announcement of the winners. Those accounts won't be upgraded to ProtonVPN Plus. Instead winners will be handed out a 1 Year license each. And you can use that license code to upgrade any ProtonVPN free account to Plus. If you're worried about your privacy, just create a new account and use the license code to upgrade that account. A single code can be used on only 1 account. So don't worry, no one's getting a shared account.

And I already have the license codes. I'll be the one handing out those licenses and not ProtonVPN. They'll never know which license code is given to whom.

If there's anything else someone wants to know, then just ask here. I'll be more than happy to answer your questions.

@Myna

What is your profit from promoting protonmail VPN with this intensity?

And for your information - this is not the first discussion about that VPN and there was one point I wanted to know what other people (that must  look for there privacy) think about protonmail VPN and I was asking members from some of the biggest hackerspaces around the world and not one told me that I can trust this VPN.

Just to confirm that's right (about the both).

In fact, sorry @Myna I was confusing by the button Upgrade to Plus (as you can see there). That's why I was thinking :

  • we can choose and try anothers plans.
  • the free plan has a limit (number of servers, etc)

But it's a trial period, then that's correct all the features are already there (in fact, you just have to choose the free plan and nothing else).

From my point of view, to avoid this confusion they must change the software. This windows has to appears (or those buttons must be activate) only at the end of the trial period.

That's right. I too was a bit confused at first. I'll let them know about this... maybe on Monday.

First of all, thank you for offering this opportunity for us.

I live in Turkey and hundereds and thousands of websites (including the major sites like Wikipedia) blocked by the government's court order. The government also may ban major social media sites when there's a general or local elections. Besides, I'm a college student and a blog writer /reviewer in Youtube, but unfortunately, I cannot access some of the main news site's an whole NSFW portals because of that situation.

Thank you again and good luck to you all.

ProtonVPN is an excellent new service from the makers of ProtonMail. Like ProtonMail, their new VPN service too comes with focus on Privacy and Security. ProtonVPN has all the features of a good VPN, strong encryption, forward secrecy, strong protocols, no logs policy, DNS leak protection, kill switch, high speed, easy to use, etc. Secure and Trusted service.

@Myna What if I already have ProtonVPN account since long time ago? Can I use it? Or do I need to create new account?

Either way I want to participate in this giveaway. The government censor our internet quite heavily here. ProtonVPN would be a great way to circumvent this.
