HX1
I found this on MSNBC this morning ... View: Original ArticleThe Sony Playstation 3 has been redesigned with 120 GB Hard Drive, what looks to be half its original case size, and the price has been cut to around $299...Good news to anyone who hasn't already bought one yet! HX1
Actually the release date is the same, I think that article sates its availability being September 2009...This is just the first I had heard of it..

LeetPirate
Yea I read it yesterday... But I'm not sure about the technical updates.. Better graphics? SPeed? lala?Same specs as the previous models. Just that this one uses 65nm cpu and other more refined chips inside that reduced power usage, cost, and heat output. They mentioned you may no longer be able to install Linux on it again but who cares, if you want to load Linux then buy a PC, a PS3 is for gaming. Check some pics here.Still no backwards compatibility however the following is my take on backwards compatibility issue.I have no doubt that the PS3 system is fully backwards compatible with PS2 games, pending a firmware release to allow the feature. Sony isn't a stupid company, they have foresight. The only reason they have not enabled PS2 compatibility in the newer PS3 systems is the mere fact that the PS2 console is still selling like mad and bringing in profits to help cover their losses of the PS3.Just check out some of the games for sale on the PS store, most of the ones for 19.99 are PS2 titles like tekken 5 etc. I highly doubt they would waste money to port such games to PS3 platform when there is most likely hidden locked backwards compatibility that has not been cracked by any basement nerd as yet. Mark my words, the day they announce that the PS2 has reached the end of its life is the day they also announce the magical firmware update that will make your PS3 play most if not all the PS2 games via some sort of virtualization or emulation. Rock Lee
Well for me, I already bought the $400 one but I may trade it in. It does take up a lot of space. The one thing I am disappointed with them is the fact that game prices haven't dipped along with the price of the actual console. I'd love to start paying $50 again as apposed to the $60 I pay now. Sure, some will say that $10 isn't a lot but I don't buy games one by one. Usually when I go shopping it's for at least 5-6 at a time. Do the math, 5 games at $60 a piece is $300. 5 games at $50 a piece is only $250 (all this without taxes of course). That is what I would like to do, that extra $50 that's left over would go to another game. There won't be a craze for this PS3 like it was for the other, but I do see a lot more households with one now that they're cheaper. That hopefully will lead to lower prices. You know how they like to compete with Microsoft with prices, this battle should be good :)Thanks for the info. donizme
I bought my PS3 last year, I have GTA4/Call of Duty 4/World at War. I have only ever played world at war and still do (not enough time). I think Sony have been dreaming of this moment where they can actually reduce the price to the same as Xbox 360. For me it's a no brainer now, with Blu-ray/Wi-fi/Playing games online free, PS3 owns Xbox 360! The only thing the Xbox has over Sony is a better joypad. I know because I have the xbox 360 joypad for use on pc games. I can say it absolutely destroyes the ps3 controller. Also the ps3 one is such bad quality, my square button sometimes gets pressed in, and anologue sticks are poorly made with that material. Also the triggers have no 'feel'. Graphics are the same.I just wish I had this newer model, and that it came with a better joypad.
