The latest speculation pertaining to Apple’s much anticipated “iPhone 6″ is suggesting that the Cupertino company is ready to move away from the existing flat edge design.
The flat, clinical surfaces of the device have been part of the iPhone’s aesthetic since the iPhone 4 was launched in June 2010. Claiming that the information is coming directly from “trusted” sources, Japanese blog MacOtakara is claiming that the soon to be announced next-generation model will ship with a design overhaul in favor of rounded edges and accompanying curved glass, very much akin to Samsung’s Galaxy S3.

It’s recommended that this report be taken with a pinch of salt until we see some physical leaks. The same sources are suggesting that whatever device is announced later in the year will also feature a revamped display made of slightly curved glass that will be implemented to accompany the rounded edge design. It’s also being predicted that the Apple engineers have been working on an entirely new radio and antenna system that will ship with the new iPhone 6 model. No additional information on the technical internal setup or outward aesthetics of that change have been aired.
Also, the very same report suggests that the iPhone 6 will feature an all aluminum rear, moving away from the two-tone glass + aluminum back which we’ve seen in the iPhone 5 and the 5s.
As Apple’s annual Worldwide Developer Conference (WWDC) approaches the iPhone 6 and iOS 8 related speculation is going into overdrive with everything from the extremely plausible, to the outright insane being predicted. Over the last few weeks we’ve seen a number of well-informed industry analysts predict that Tim Cook’s company is planning on introducing two new iPhone models before the end of the current calendar year. That route to market would include a 4.7-inch model landing on our shelves in September or October, with a larger 5.7-inch model following shortly after.

This year’s Worldwide Developer Conference is sure to bring some big news for Apple and technology fans alike. Tim Cook has already gone on record as stating that his company is planning on launching a number of products that “only Apple could launch“. There’s also the very likely possibility that we will see an introduction of an Apple TV SDK and our first official glimpse of whatever wearable product the company is working on.
