Lenovo ThinkPad X1 Carbon Unveiled

Recommended Posts

Lenovo has rolled out the red carpet for its ThinkPad X1 Carbon, an offering it says is the thinnest 14-inch ultrabook available. Saying it is a "beautiful contradition," the X1 Carbon is designed to be nearly indestructible, and yet is very thin and weighs only 2.8 pounds. As the name suggests, the laptop is constructed from carbon fiber, making it both lighter and stronger than aluminum and magnesium.

With the X1 Carbon come a variety of features, including an adaptive keyboard that adjusts itself based on system usage. There's built-in gesture control and voice control, as well as support for the nearly introduced ThinkPad OneLink Dock Pro single-cable dock. By using the dock, owners will get access to dual-display and Gigabit Ethernet.

The laptop uses a ColorBurst Display, which promises wider angles and brighter/sharper images than previous models. Also trumping past models is the battery life, which is said to be up to 9 hours. The system can charge the battery to 80-percent in less than 60 minutes, as well, eliminating long wait times. There's optional integreated 4G connectivity, as well.

The X1 Carbon is available now starting at $1,299 USD, while the OneLink Dock Pro is priced at $179 USD.

Said Lenovo's Think Business Group's Senior Vice President Peter Hortensius: "Lenovo continues to push the boundaries of design and technology as we aspire to create the best products in the market. Our obsession in the pursuit of perfection is evident with these smarter devices designed to enhance the way people interact at home and at work. The ThinkPad X1 Carbon delivers a stunning user experience with the best professional display and new interactive methods and represents another step in our PC plus journey."
