Kim Dotcom: Mega to offer 50 GB of cloud-based file storage for free

When Kim Dotcom's upcoming file sharing web service Mega launches on Sunday, it will offer up 50 GB of file storage space for free to its customers, but there's no word yet on premium services.

We are just a few days away from the scheduled launch of Mega, the successor to the now shut down file sharing service MegaUpload. The new Mega is scheduled to launch on Sunday, one year after the US government shut down MegaUpload and raided the mansion of its founder Kim Dotcom in New Zealand on charges of online content piracy (he has pleaded not guilty to the charges).

While Dotcom continues to wait for the court system to go through the motions, he has been spearheading the launch of Mega. Today, Dotcom took to Twitter again to tease us about Mega's features, saying that it will offer a lot of free storage space for users:

By contrast, Microsoft's SkyDrive service gives users 7 GBs of storage space and Google Drive offers 5 GBs of free storage space. Mega will also have options for people who want to pay for additional storage space but so far there's no word on what those options will offer.

Dotcom will hold the Mega launch event at the same New Zealand mansion that was the subject of the raid a year ago on Saturday. He is promising an epic event and hopefully we will get lots of pictures and video of the festivities.
