  5. Adobe: Windows Users Hit by PDF Reader Zero-Day Adobe on Tuesday warned that a gaping security hole in one of the most widely deployed software products has been exploited in the wild in “limited attacks targeting Adobe Reader users on Windows.” Adobe’s confirmation of the zero-day attack was buried in a security bulletin that documents at least 11 security vulnerabilities affected Adobe Acrobat and Reader on both Windows and MacOS platforms. “These updates address multiple critical and important vulnerabilities. Successful exploitation could lead to arbitrary code execution in the context of the current user,” according to the bulletin. Adobe’s Acrobat Reader is widely used freeware to view, create, fill, print and format files in the Portable Document Format (PDF). The software has long been a rich target for advanced threat actors conducting targeted attacks. The under-attack flaw -- CVE-2021-28550 -- is described as a use-after-free memory corruption issue that was discovered and reported anonymously to Adobe. The company did not provide any additional details on the active exploitation. The mega-patch release from Adobe documents at least 23 flaws in a range of products, including a pair of security holes in the Adobe Experience Manager, a trio of security flaws in Adobe InDesign and five serious bugs in Adobe Illustrator. The company also patched security vulnerabilities in Adobe InCopy and Adobe Genuine Service. Source: Adobe: Windows Users Hit by PDF Reader Zero-Day
  6. Adobe fixes critical vulnerabilities in Photoshop and Digital Editions Adobe has released security updates that address security vulnerabilities in Adobe Photoshop, Adobe Digital Editions, Adobe Bridge, and RoboHelp. In total, the company addressed ten security vulnerabilities affecting four products, with seven of them rated as critical as they allow arbitrary code execution or arbitrary file writes. Of all the products receiving security updates today, Adobe Bridge has the most, fixing four 'Critical' code execution bugs and two vulnerabilities rated as 'Important.' Code execution bugs are the most serious as they could allow attackers to execute almost any command in Windows, including installing malware or taking over the computer. In addition to the Adobe Bridge bugs, Adobe also fixed other vulnerabilities in their products, including: 2 Critical vulnerabilities in Adobe Photoshop 1 Critical vulnerability in Adobe Digital Editions 1 Important vulnerability in RoboHelp Adobe advises customers using vulnerable products to update to the latest versions as soon as possible to fix bugs that could lead to successful exploitation of unpatched installations. In most cases, users can update their software by using the auto-update feature of the product using the following steps: By going to Help > Check for Updates. The full update installers can be downloaded from Adobe's Download Center. Let the products update automatically, without requiring user intervention, when updates are detected. If the new update is not available via autoupdate, you can check the security bulletins linked to above for the latest download links. 7. Critical code execution vulnerability fixed in Adobe ColdFusion Adobe has released out-of-band security updates to address a critical vulnerability impacting ColdFusion versions 2021, 2016, and 2018. Today's emergency updates patch an arbitrary code execution security flaw caused by an Improper Input Validation software vulnerability. Adobe released ColdFusion 2016 Update 17, ColdFusion 2018 Update 11, and ColdFusion 2021 Update 1 to patch the vulnerability and said that all previous versions before these patches are vulnerable to attacks. Updates to latest JDK also required to secure servers In the security bulletin published today, Adobe tagged the vulnerability tracked as CVE-2021-21087 with "priority rating 2," assigned to flaws with no known exploits affecting products that have historically been at elevated risk. Adobe recommends administrators install the security updates as soon as possible and apply the security configuration settings outlined in the ColdFusion 2021, ColdFusion 2018, and ColdFusion 2016 lockdown guides. "Adobe recommends updating your ColdFusion JDK/JRE to the latest version of the LTS releases for 1.8 and JDK 11," the company also said. "Applying the ColdFusion update without a corresponding JDK update will NOT secure the server." More details on how to apply these updates are available in the relevant Tech Notes linked in the table embedded below. Product Vulnerable versions Updated version Platform Availability ColdFusion 2016 Update 16 and earlier version Update 17 All Tech note ColdFusion 2018 Update 10 and earlier versions Update 11 All Tech note ColdFusion 2021 Version 2021.0.0.323925 Update 1 All Tech note The US National Security Agency (NSA) has listed CVE-2018-4939 (an Adobe ColdFusion 14 bug) as one of the top 25 vulnerabilities used by Chinese state-sponsored or financially-motivated hackers to exploit public-facing servers. For instance, in November 2018, China-backed hackers took over ColdFusion servers by deploying China Chopper backdoors after exploiting a bug tracked as CVE-2018-15961 and patched two months before. Chinese-speaking cybercrime group Rocke was also observed earlier that year while dropping cryptomining malware on Internet-exposed by exploiting Adobe ColdFusion servers unpatched against similar bugs. Another ColdFusion vulnerability, CVE-2018-15961, was included by the NSA a the list of most exploited bugs for deploying web shells on vulnerable servers. 9. Adobe launches M1-native Photoshop with ‘minor feature differences’ Don't worry, you can always go back to the Rosetta version. After a few months in beta, Adobe has launched a version of Photoshop for Apple’s M1 chip, bringing a major speed boost to the popular photo editing software. However, it also includes a few limitations that might make users want to stick to running the Intel version in Rosetta 2. Adobe says the M1 native version is 1.5 times faster than “similarly configured previous generation systems,” so users should definitely feel the difference. The app will update via the Creative Cloud updater and will seamlessly switch to the new version when relaunched. Adobe says legacy version of Photoshop prior to 2020 will not support the M1 chip. However, the M1 version of Photoshop for M1 MacBooks and the Mac mini isn’t identical to the Intel version. Here are the features that aren’t available in the M1 version yet, according to Adobe: Import, Export, and playback of embedded video layers Shake Reduction filter Preset Syncing Share an image button / Quick Share Create new Library from document / Libraries Panel menu command Home Screen > Shared with you and Invite to edit / Collaborative Editing features. Opening or placing U3D formatted files Starting Bridge from Photoshop menus There are also a handful of known issues Adobe is working on including Issues when exporting SVG files and a black screen when viewing a 3D document. Adobe offers workarounds while it works to fix the problems. For most users, these won’t be debilitating limitations, but if you need any of the features here, you can always switch to the Rosetta version. Head to your Applications folders, right-click on the app icon, and then “Get Info” to bring up details and options about the app. Finally, check the “Open in Rosetta” box to force the Intel version to launch. 10. Adobe Patches Code Execution Flaws in Connect, Creative Cloud, Framemaker Adobe on Tuesday announced that it has patched critical code execution vulnerabilities in its Connect, Creative Cloud, and Framemaker products. In the Creative Cloud desktop application, Adobe fixed three flaws rated critical, including arbitrary file overwrite and OS command injection issues that can lead to code execution, and an improper input validation issue that can be exploited for privilege escalation. In its Connect product, the company addressed one critical input validation issue that can result in arbitrary code execution and three important-severity reflected cross-site scripting (XSS) flaws that can allow an attacker to execute arbitrary JavaScript code in the targeted user’s browser. XSS attacks typically require the victim to click on a specially crafted link. In Framemaker, Adobe patched one critical out-of-bounds read vulnerability that can lead to code execution. Adobe said it had found no evidence of exploitation for malicious purposes, and since all vulnerabilities have been assigned a priority rating of 3, the company likely does not expect them to ever be exploited in attacks. The software giant has credited independent security researchers for most of the vulnerabilities fixed with these Patch Tuesday updates. Adobe last month patched a Reader vulnerability that had been exploited in the wild, but no information has been made available on those attacks. 11. Adobe fixes critical Reader vulnerability exploited in the wild Adobe has released security updates that address an actively exploited vulnerability in Adobe Reader and other critical bugs in Adobe Acrobat, Magento, Photoshop, Animate, Illustrator, and Dreamweaver. In total, the company addressed fifty security vulnerabilities affecting seven products, with many of them rated as critical as they local arbitrary code execution. The Adobe Reader bug known to be actively exploited in the wild is tracked as CVE-2021-21017. This vulnerability is a buffer overflow bug that would allow a malicious website to perform remote code execution on the vulnerable computer. Code execution bugs are the most serious as they could allow attackers to execute almost any command on a device, including installing f to install malware or take over the device. In addition to the actively exploited Reader vulnerability, Adobe also fixed other critical vulnerabilities in their products, including: 18 Magento vulnerabilities 23 Acrobat and Reader vulnerabilities. 5 Photoshop vulnerabilities 1 Adobe Animate vulnerability 2 Adobe Illustrator vulnerabilities 1 Adobe Dreamweaver vulnerability Adobe advises customers using vulnerable products to update to the latest versions as soon as possible to block attacks that could lead to successful exploitation of unpatched installations. In most cases, users can update their software by using the auto-update feature of the product using the following steps: By going to Help > Check for Updates. The full update installers can be downloaded from Adobe's Download Center. Let the products update automatically, without requiring user intervention, when updates are detected. Other products, like Magento, may require a user to install the security patch manually. Source: Adobe fixes critical Reader vulnerability exploited in the wild
  12. Adobe brings doc collaboration to Photoshop, Illustrator, and Fresco on Mac and iOS Adobe is out today with a handy update to Photoshop, Illustrator, and Fresco that brings document collaboration to all three of these Creative Suite apps. Additionally, Photoshop gets a new Preset Sync feature. Adobe shared the news in a blog post this morning: Starting today, we make collaborating with others when working together on Photoshop and Illustrator documents much easier with the new Invite to Edit feature. This is a huge time saver for teams working on shared projects. Plus, we introduce Preset Sync in Photoshop. Here are the details: Adobe now bundling Fresco illustration app with Photoshop for iPad subscription Look for the new add person icon in the top right of the apps: Adobe says as long as you save your .PSD or .AI files as cloud docs, you can invite others to edit them. The Invite to Edit feature in Photoshop, Illustrator, and Fresco allows asynchronous editing on all surfaces across the desktop, iPad, and iPhone (Fresco). Now collaborators can edit a shared cloud document, one at a time. Just save your .PSD or .AI files as cloud documents and send invitations for others to edit them. You can also edit files that have been shared with you. In addition, you can access your shared cloud documents on assets.adobe.com and the Creative Cloud Desktop app. Photoshop (plus Lightroom) on desktop and iPad goes from $9.99/month. Illustrator sells on its own from $20.99/month with the whole Adobe Creative Suite going from $52.99/month. Check out a closer look at the new features in the video below: Source: Adobe brings doc collaboration to Photoshop, Illustrator, and Fresco on Mac and iOS
  13. Adobe fixes critical code execution vulnerabilities in 2021's first major patch round Seven different products have received fixes during January’s security update. Adobe's first major batch of security updates in 2021 resolves seven critical bugs that can lead to code execution. On Tuesday, the tech giant released separate security advisories describing the vulnerabilities now resolved in seven products. The impacted software is Photoshop, Illustrator, Animate, Bridge, InCopy, Captivate, and Campaign Classic. The first security fix has been applied to the Photoshop image creation software on Windows and macOS machines. Tracked as CVE-2021-21006, the critical heap-based buffer overflow bug can be abused to trigger arbitrary code execution. Adobe Illustrator, on Windows PCs, is the subject of the firm's second patch. The critical bug, CVE-2021-21007, is described as an uncontrolled search path element error that can also lead to code execution. The third critical problem, discovered in Adobe Animate on Windows machines, is the same kind of security flaw resulting in the same consequences. This vulnerability is tracked as CVE-2021-21008. Adobe Bridge, used to port and switch content between different forms of creative software -- such as between Photoshop and Lightroom -- is subject to a fix for CVE-2021-21012 and CVE-2021-21013, critical out-of-bounds write flaws leading to arbitrary code execution. Another uncontrolled search path element vulnerability was found in Adobe InCopy, tracked as CVE-2021-21010. This critical bug can also be weaponized for malicious code execution. In Adobe Campaign Classic, on Windows and Linux PCs, the company has tackled CVE-2021-21009, a critical server-side request forgery (SSRF) flaw that can be exploited for the purpose of sensitive information disclosure. A hotfix has also been issued for CVE-2021-21011, an uncontrolled search path element bug, deemed "important," that was found in Windows-based versions of Adobe Captivate. If exploited, the vulnerability can lead to privilege escalation. It is recommended that users accept automatic updates where appropriate to update their builds and stay protected. Adobe thanked researchers from the nsfocus security team, Qihoo 360 CERT, Decathlon, Trend Micro's Zero Day Initiative, and both Jamie Parfet and Saurabh Kumar for reporting the issues now resolved in the patch round. In December's security update, the tech giant patched critical vulnerabilities in Adobe Lightroom, Prelude, and Experience Manager. Earlier this week, Adobe warned that the company has started to block Flash content worldwide in a bid to urge users to uninstall the software. While Flash was once a popular method to display animated content, the software is known for being riddled with security holes. 14. CCMaker v1.3.6 by El Sanchez/Ru-Board CCMaker is a utility for downloading and / or installing Adobe Creative Cloud products. Details: Download and install only products with a new type of distribution (in terms of internal terminology Adobe - type hdPackage). Download only what the user chooses in CCMaker. Additional components and language resources are available for selection. If the product has additional components, then the latest version of the component will be offered to download. If the product has language resources, only files that can be downloaded (in the case of uploading) or are present on the hard disk (in case of installation) will be offered for download / installation. Several downloadable products of the same length can be combined into one Master Collection distribution. The downloaded distribution contains only one products folder with the necessary files and is compatible with the original Set-up.exe installer (in the case of Master Collection only partially). Of course, when using Set-up.exe, you also need the packages and resources folders from some official distribution. When installing the product, CCMaker uses only the products folder, which contains the driver.xml main file and the folder with the component files. The installation of the product is based on the processing of json files containing information about components, and pimx files containing instructions for installing files, making entries in the Windows registry, creating shortcuts and launching programs. The emulator AMTEmu from PainteR is applied to the installed product, the original file amtlib.dll has the extension .dontdelete, do not delete it unnecessarily. To maintain the log file, run CCMaker with the / LOG = path to the file. Changes: New: creating / modifying the SQLite databases cache.db and pcd.db required for the proper operation of BridgeTalk, zxp plug-ins, ExtendScript Toolkit CC Fixed: incorrect unpacking of files from archives by paths in Unicode, which resulted in an error when moving files (with 1.3.5) Fixed: when downloading several products simultaneously without creating a Master Collection, driver.xml files were created after downloading all the products Changed: if several products are installed simultaneously, the common components are put only once Changed: uninstaller updated Homepage [Require Sign-In] Download Site:https://multifilemirror.com Sharecode[?]: /sjsew3dmqdtg/CCMaker.7z.html Courtesy to El Sanchez
  15. Adobe starts serving ads in the share and 'open with' UI on Android for some users Adobe is beginning to test a way of serving ads through the ‘open with’ and share dialogs on Android. AndroidPolice reports that its readers are beginning to see ads for Adobe Photoshop Express and Adobe Scan when trying to open certain types of files. The nature of these ads is exactly like Microsoft’s ads that were being served last year. The way this works is that when users install one of the apps from a particular developer, which in this case is the Adobe Acrobat Reader, they are served ads for other apps from the same developer. The advertisements for the apps depend on the format of the file being shared or opened. Adobe’s ads also appear in the ‘open with’ UI, prompting to download Photoshop Express likely when trying to open an image for editing. Screenshots: AndroidPolice The folks over at AndroidPolice could find strings within the Acrobat Reader app code that pointed to promotions for Photoshop Elements and Scan. In Microsoft’s case, the ads were for PowerPoint when opening a .PPTX file, or for downloading OneDrive when users attempt to share a picture. This would primarily show up for users that installed the Your Phone (formerly Your Phone Companion) app. While companies might want to promote other apps that they build, such ads might become more of an annoyance for users that are accustomed to using a certain set of apps for specific tasks. It is not clear if the test will expand to more users or be canned earlier depending on users’ feedback. 16. Adobe promises big speed boosts to video encoding, thanks to new GPU acceleration New hardware acceleration support should improve export times Photo by Tom Warren / The Verge Adobe is releasing a new update to Premiere Pro this week that includes hardware acceleration for Nvidia and AMD GPUs. The 14.2 update includes GPU-accelerated encoding using Nvidia’s hardware encoder for the company’s Quadro and GeForce graphics cards, with the promise that video editors will be able to export high-resolution videos up to 5 times faster than by just using the CPU. The changes also apply to Adobe’s Media Encoder, After Effects, and Audition apps. Premiere Pro has long supported Nvidia’s CUDA cores for accelerating video effects and even improving export times, but this new update optimizes the app to use the separate hardware encoder on Nvidia’s GPUs. It will improve export times for H.264 or H.265 / HEVC codecs. “These improvements are the result of years of collaboration between Nvidia and Adobe to deliver high-quality applications and tools to creators,” says Manish Kulkarni, senior engineering manager at Adobe. “With new support for NVIDIA GPUs on Windows, exports are hardware accelerated leveraging the power of the GPU to make Premiere Pro more powerful and keep video creators productive and nimble.” Nvidia and Adobe promise big improvements. Adobe’s latest updates also include support for Apple’s ProRes RAW format in both Premiere Pro and After Effects, meaning video editors using Windows can now import ProRes RAW files without having to transcode them. This is also accelerated using Nvidia’s CUDA cores. Both Adobe and Nvidia are promising big improvements to encode times with this new support. Nvidia claims a basic 4K transcode should drop to 4 minutes and 45 seconds using an RTX 2060, compared to 11 minutes and 43 seconds using software encoding on an Intel Core i9-9750H CPU. AMD GPUs will also be supported in this update, as Adobe has been beta testing the changes with both AMD and Nvidia graphics cards recently. 18. Pair of critical flaws cleaned up in Acrobat, Reader Adobe has issued its first patch of the year, emitting fixes for a pair of high-risk vulnerabilities in Acrobat and Reader. The APSB-02 security bundle is being recommended as a high-priority fix, so install it as soon as you can. The two CVE-listed bugs haven't been targeted in the wild yet so admins are advised to get the updates tested and installed within the next 30 days. By comparison, a critical, actively-exploited, flaw would have a 72-hour recommended install time. Still, Mac and Windows PC owners would be well advised to install patches for the two flaws. Limiting user account privileges could also help mitigate the risk from both flaws. The first, CVE-2018-16011, is a use-after-free() programming blunder that, if exploited, would allow a specially crafted PDF file to execute code with the privileges of the currently logged-in user. Click on the wrong attachment and an attacker can run pretty much whatever they like on the local machine. The flaw was discovered and reported to Adobe by bug-hunter Sebastian Apelt via the Trend Micro Zero Day Initiative. The second bug, CVE-2018-19725, is a security bypass vulnerability discovered by Abdul-Aziz Hariri of the Zero Day Initiative. Hariri has done extensive research showing how specially crafted PDF files can use API calls to get around Adobe security protections and access other file paths on the system. For MacOS and Windows boxes, the updates will be released for Acrobat and Reader DC 2015 (version 2015.006.30464), 2017 (version 2017.011.30113), and Continuous (version 2019.010.20069). The Adobe fixes will also be advance work for next Tuesday, January 8, when Microsoft is due to kick out its first monthly update of the year for Windows, Office, and Edge/IE. Adobe typically follows suit with patches for Flash and Creative Cloud, and SAP occasionally does as well. ® Source
  19. The Flash Preservation project Flashpoint created a solution to play thousands of Flash games on Windows and Linux machines after Flash's retirement. Adobe Flash will be retired in 2020 and browser makers such as Google, Mozilla or Microsoft started to phase out Flash support already in the browsers they create. Think of Flash what you want but the technology was used to create a number of impressive games. Problem is, if no modern browser supports Flash, no one can play those games anymore unless they use browsers that still support it or find other ways to preserve the games and play them. Even if browsers still support Flash, Flash itself will not be updated anymore and any security vulnerability found will remain unpatched. It is possible that Flash content will be removed on many sites once Flash is gone for good; this would mean that many Flash games would be lost forever. The Flash Games preservation project The Flash Games preservation project is an attempt to preserve Flash games so that they remain available and playable. The project is huge; the current full distribution of Flashpoint has a size of 31 Gigabytes. You can download a smaller collection with a size of just 2.2 Gigabytes if you prefer. The main difference between the two is that Infinity is configured to download Flash games that you select from Archive.org. The upside to this is that you won't have to download more than 30 Gigabytes of Flash files directly before you can start playing games. The main downside is that it takes longer on first start to play games as they have to be downloaded first to the local system. Also, some games won't work with Infinity and are not displayed because of this. The project maintains a Game Master List that is updated regularly. The current full version comes with more than 4000 games including many classic games. The developer has more than 2 Terabyte of Flash dumps on Google Drive from sites such as Gamepilot, JayIsGames, Newsgrounds, Kongregate, Armorgames, or NotDoppler. Some Flash games can be saved to the local system and run from there without any issues provided that a browser or the standalone Adobe Flash projector is used for that. Others won't run because they rely on servers or have DRM baked into them which prevents local playback without modification. The project uses the interface of LaunchBox and Apache web server capabilities to provide access to Flash games on Windows. The launcher displays the list of games that are available, and users may click on any to look them up, and on play to start the game locally. The distribution takes care of DRM, sitelocked games, games that have server requirements, and games that require external files. The developer and volunteers test games, download required external components, and hack the games if required so that they will run on the local system. Flashpoint requires Windows 7 or newer versions of Windows. It does require the .NET Framework 4.7 and a Visual C++ redistributable. You find copies of those in the arcade folder after you have unpacked the package on the local system. Linux users may run Flashpoint as well. Instructions are found in the readme.txt file that is included in the distribution. How Flashpoint works Flashpoint changes the system proxy while it is running; this is required to get games to run that are locked, with DRM, or have dependencies that are not locally available. You can run the custom redirector or the Fiddler redirector. The main difference between the two is that Fiddler is more reliable but also more interfering with network traffic while Flashpoint is running. The developer suggests that no mission critical networking operations are run while Flashpoint is running. Note that this will do certain things to your network traffic while Flashpoint is open, and while we maintain that we do not use this proxy or your network traffic for any kind of nefarious purpose, and we do believe that network traffic should remain relatively normal while Flashpoint is open, we do recommend that you do not do any sort of 'mission critical' networking while you're running Flashpoint, and if you do use a system proxy on the computer you plan to use Flashpoint on, we recommend making a copy of your settings somewhere in case something goes wrong. The way things are set up can be cause for concern. If you are concerned, consider running Flashpoint in a virtual machine on the system or a spare PC if you have one. Games are listed with screenshots and information; very useful. A quick test of the Infinity edition was completely positive. I played several games, and while it took a while before downloads completed, playing them worked fine and without any issues. Closing Words With hundreds of thousands of Flash games around on the Internet, and 2 Terabyte of data sitting on the author's Google Drive account, it is clear that Flashpoint is a massive project that will take a long time before the majority of games have been included. The project offers an excellent option for gamers to play classic Flash games even after the technology has been put to rest finally. Now You: Do you play online games? Source

"Our results in Q1 reflect continued momentum across Adobe Creative Cloud, Document Cloud and Experience Cloud." Source
  22. Adobe released their January 2019 Patch Tuesday updates today for Adobe Connect and Adobe Digital Editions. Updates were also released for Flash Player, but none of them are for security fixes! Earlier this month, Adobe also released an out-of-band update for Adobe Acrobat and Reader to fix vulnerabilities that could allow privilege escalation and remote code execution. These vulnerability were not being actively exploited, so it unclear why they did not wait to release them today. January 2019 Adobe Update Summary: APSB19-01 Security updates available for Adobe Flash Player Believe it or not, this update does not fix any security vulnerabilities in Adobe Flash Player. This update brings Flash Player to version 32.0.0.114 and simply fixes performance issues and bugs. 23. Adobe Patches Critical Photoshop, Digital Edition Flaws Adobe fixed two arbitrary code execution flaws in its Photoshop and Digital Edition products. Adobe on Tuesday released its March Security Update, reporting and fixing only two critical flaws: one in Photoshop CC and one in Adobe Digital Editions. Both critical flaws could allow a bad actor to achieve arbitrary code execution in the context of the current user, Adobe said. The company said it is not aware of any exploits in the wild for the security issues. “Adobe has published security bulletins for Adobe Digital Editions and Adobe Photoshop CC,” the company said in its release. “Adobe recommends users update their product installations to the latest versions…” The first critical flaw is in Adobe Photoshop CC for Windows and macOS. Successful exploitation of the heap corruption flaw (CVE-2019-7094) could lead to arbitrary code execution in the context of the current user. Francis Provencher with Zero Day Initiative (ZDI) is credited with discovering the vulnerability. “This is a heap corruption due to an out-of-bounds write in Photoshop that could allow code execution if an attacker could convince someone to open a specially crafted file,” a ZDI spokesperson told Threatpost. Impacted are Photoshop CC 19.1.7 (and earlier 19.x versions) as well as 20.0.2 (and earlier 20.x versions); users are urged to update to Photoshop CC 19.1.8 and 20.0.4 for Windows and macOS. The other critical vulnerability exists in Adobe Digital Edition, its ebook reader software program. The heap overflow vulnerability, CVE-2019-7095, could be exploited to achieve arbitrary code execution  in the context of the current user, according to Adobe. Versions 4.5.10.185749 and below for Windows are impacted, and users are urged to update to version 4.5.10.186048. Both updates are “priority 3,” meaning that “this update resolves vulnerabilities in a product that has historically not been a target for attackers. “Adobe recommends administrators install the update at their discretion,” according to the update notes. Adobe’s February update resolved far more bugs in its products. Overall, Adobe’s February update patched 75 important and critical vulnerabilities across its products compared to only two reported in March. Earlier in March, Adobe also issued an emergency patch for a critical vulnerability in its ColdFusion service that is being exploited in the wild. The vulnerability, CVE-2019-7816, exists in Adobe’s commercial rapid web application development platform, ColdFusion. The ColdFusion vulnerability is a file upload restriction bypass which could enable arbitrary code execution. Source
  24. A transformational story: Adobe rethinks its data playbook Tech company, transform thyself. The people that push digital transformation are under just as much pressure to make things happen within their own domains. Mainstream companies aren't the only people that need to consider how they will make the move to digital and data. The tech companies providing the tools and platforms also have their own digital and data-driven transformations to worry about. Adobe is one such company to go through the transition. At the recent Adobe Summit in Las Vegas, I had the opportunity to speak with Eric Cox, vice president of digital media and go-to-market strategy and operations at Adobe, about his company's most recent transformation effort, which it calls a move to a data-driven operating model (DDOM) . Q: Why and when did your initiative start? Photo: Joe McKendrick In 2017, late in the year, we decided we wanted to take the level of instrumentation that we have across our business, which was pretty pervasive. We surmised we had an ability to see our customer journeys in ways that we hadn't really thought of in the past, from a comprehensive end-to-end perspective. If we could somehow look across the entirety of the business and establish a correlation between financial and nonfinancial metrics, it would help us serve our customers better and serve our business better. So we built this blueprint, this capacity to actually do this across the organization like ours, what would it look like? And it took us about three to four months to pull together the plan of what we wanted to do. Q: How did corporate culture affect your plans? As a tech company, Adobe has a forward-looking corporate culture, which may have given you an inherent advantage other companies lack. There were two key things that worked for us in helping push through that and get quicker adoption across the organization. We anchor on five customer steps in DDOM: discover, try, buy, use and renew. Everything we do aligns to one of these five customer journey steps. We believe these are the steps that our customers go through when they go through trying to understand how we can help them. Each of those journey steps has lots of underlying pieces of information or KPIs that will tell us whether things are going well, or poorly in that particular step. We have a broad set of products, a cross-functional nature to our organization, and we love to work collaboratively. We decided first and foremost is each of those five customer journey steps should have one owner who is empowered to make decisions across all these groups. Q: Have your people outside of your data science and DDOM teams seen changes in their jobs and the way they work? Yes. With maybe the exception of the facilities team, I think every single team at Adobe is talking in a DDOM language now. Adobe goes through a strategic planning process on a yearly basis. Now all of our strategic planning is done in a DDOM framework. So when we talk about investments, we talk about, where are those investments going to benefit us? Are they going to improve our ability to help our customers through the discovery process? Are they impacting try as a renewal strategy? The framework helps us understand across the business -- things like investments, and growth and improvements. Steps like this can unlock your ability to align a really broad group of people across multiple teams. And all teams are using this as a means to try and understand and talk about their businesses. Q: What does your initiative look like? It boils down into three key components: data, KPIs, and an operating model. Data is the foundation of what you have available to you to understand what's happening, across your customer journeys,, and what you think you can see in those inflection points -- customers go from discovering products trying them, buying them and using them, and hopefully renewing them. We need a foundational layer of data that is available to everyone under this data-driven operating model. It was really important that it was democratized, and it was the same, no matter who you were. We would find that different groups at Adobe would look at the same data and draw different conclusions. So first we wanted to make sure we were all working in a single source of truth. Q: How did you get to the point where you attained a single version of the truth? Many organizations have been struggling for decades to attain this. We have a great data sciences team at Adobe -- incredibly talented folks who really understand how to stitch data together from different sources. We have an environment topography of all these different sources of data. You name it, and we've got it. And we were parking information in all these different places. We first stepped back and think about the customer journey, and all the different pieces of information that you need to get a holistic view of discover through renew. Then we identified all those places, the infrastructure, what the systems map looks like, and where all this information lives. Our data flows from things like product and Adobe.com and different sources into these respective places, and we didn't want to change that. But what we wanted to automate the plumbing so that once it goes there, it flows into this one central place -- our unifying data layer. Q: What kind of data do you employ? We started with a broad set of financial data. We then incorporated data about our website, visits to the way people are navigating through the site, and what information they're spending time with. We have data on downloads from the site. We've also got data from the App Store and Google Play to show what folks are doing with mobile apps. Then inside those mobile apps or desktop applications, we have lots and lots of use data. We can see how customers are using products, and that helps us understand where they're seeing value. Source
