  3. Not only did Microsoft roll out Windows 8.1 Update earlier this month, but the company also rolled out Windows Embedded 8.1 Industry Update. This update is available to customers and partners via Windows Update, Microsoft OEM Online, and Volume Licensing Service Center. Windows 8.1 Update brings along quite a lot of new improvements for non-touch users, but did you know that Windows Embedded 8.1 Industry Update brings along some new improvements for retail, manufacturing, and health devices? Windows Embedded 8.1 Industry Update enables sideloading, easier app development, low-cost hardware deployment, and much more. Windows Embedded 8.1 Industry extends Windows 8.1 to a range of industry devices across retail, manufacturing, health and any other industries in which powerful line-of-business applications and the ability to perform a specialized function in a secure and reliable way is paramount. Here are some of the key features of the update: Sideloading will be enabled on Windows Embedded 8.1 Industry - meaning the customers no longer need to purchase a sideloading key through VL Inter-process communication between a modern app and a desktop app will be enabled, allowing developers to take advantage of both the modern app model as well as the existing desktop app model Updated Embedded Lockdown Manager provides a more unified way to manage embedded lockdown features such as unified write filter and gesture filter User interface improvements to help naturally bridge touch and desktop, especially for keyboard and mouse users Enabling Windows on lower-cost hardware (for example: 1 GB RAM and 16 GB SSD), enabling a wider range of industry tablet devices "For our customers, this update will help them stay current with modern technologies as well as continue to receive future updates, including security updates. 4. Windows 8.1 Update is already out of the way and its now time to focus on what comes next. Last year, we first reported about Windows 9 and the idea of Windows 10 being a "full cloud based operating system." These details came from the notorious leaker, Wzor. Now, it appears new information has come to light about Microsoft's future plans for Windows. According to new details from Wzor, Microsoft will roll out another update to Windows 8.1 (Update 2) sometime in September of this year, during the Autumn season. Microsoft may refer to this update as Windows 8.1 Update 2 or may even call it Windows 8.2, as there appears to be some sort of heated internal discussion on what to call it. Microsoft is expected to roll out the Start Menu, showcased during Build 2014, in this update. Microsoft will also release some sort of next generation Metro interface with Windows 9, but we aren't too sure exactly what that entails. The Start button will also be present in Windows 9, on devices without a touchscreen and on server systems. The Start button will be a tad bit different on touch devices, but no details were given. Wzor claims that Microsoft may offer Windows 9 for free (which might not seem like a wise idea), but that is still being discussed. Microsoft is apparently working on a prototype operating system called Windows Cloud. This is rumored to be an operating system that requires an internet connection for full functionality. While in offline mode, the operating system would be similar to Microsoft’s budget operating system, Windows Starter, offering basic functionality. This obviously smells like something you would see in Chrome OS on a Chromebook. Could Microsoft be experimenting with something similar? Again, we must stress that this is a huge rumor. Microsoft hasn't offered any details on the upcoming Windows 8.1 Update 2, nor has there been any information on Windows 9 or Windows 10. Leaked information is scarce and things are a lot tighter ever since the leaker of Windows 8 was arrested. Either way, we've written up this story to discuss the possibilities. Should Windows 9 be offered for free? Would a cloud-based operating system be useful? Source
  5. Console OS let you run Android Apps on your Windows Phone Tablet or Windows PC. With Console OS, you can use Android on your device as a secondary operating system or on its own completely. It should play nice with touchscreens, and mouse and keyboard setups alike, and the developers vow that their software should work on a variety of new devices, like the Dell Venue 8 Pro and the Lenovo Miix 2. Console OS was designed to natively operate on Intel’s x86 format, and should perform better than any Android emulators or virtual environments. There are some questions, however, regarding real-world performance of Console OS. There haven’t been any hands-on demos of the software in action. Also, the lag-time for switching between operating systems might be an issue, even though the Console team says that it should take about 10 seconds for the switch to take place. Console isn’t available yet, but if this sounds like something that’s up your alley, a $10 donation to its Kickstarter campaign will get you a Pro version of the software, which gives you the ability to switch between OS’ more quickly, and free upgrades forever. If you shell out some more money, then you’ll even get to help elect which devices the team will develop support for. Homepage Source
  6. Intel announced its upcoming Braswell SoC at the IDF conference earlier this year, set to run Windows or Android, among others, on a 14nm 64-bit architecture. We now learn that those will finally be available at the start of 2015, over 6 months from now. Meanwhile, its Broadwell K desktop architecture, the successor of its current Haswell lineup, will also reportedly be delayed until 2015. Intel hopes its Braswell Atom will enable it to be one of the major players when Android makes the switch to 64-bit architectures. The company hopes to ship its Atom architecture in a large number of mobile designs, as well as 10W desktops and AiOs as the Braswell-D, by Q1 2015. Braswell is rumored to be able to bring triple display support and DirectX 11 to mobiles. In regards to its high-end desktop processors, Intel’s Broadwell architecture is also slated to come next year, after the current batch of Haswell refresh chips goes through its lifecycle. The Broadwell K will replace Intel’s current line of LGA 1150 processors like the Core i7 4790 K, while the Broadwell E will come in place of the 130-140W Haswell C desktop configuration. Source
  7. It's almost common knowledge now that Microsoft are currently developing a second update for Windows 8.1, which should further improve the operating system before Windows 9 launches next year. Currently, not much is known about Windows 8.1 Update 2 other than the fact that it will arrive in August-September of this year, however today new information may have surfaced regarding its size and delivery method. Before we continue, we must stress that the information you're about to lay your eyes upon could be false, so take it with a grain of salt. According to a user at EightForums, a Microsoft Rep has unveiled that Microsoft are currently in the process of training its support employees for Windows 8.1 Update 2. The rep claims that Update 2 will land in August/September of this year, and that it will be delivered through the Windows Store much like Windows 8. The rep also claims that Windows 8.1 Update 2 will be a hefty 3GB in size, making us believe that Update 2 won't be like Windows 8.1 Update 1, but more like Windows 8.1 as a whole compared to Windows 8. 3GB is somewhat a significant increase in size compared to Update 1, which maxed at around 700MB. Of course, the user on the forum could just be making things up, and we're yet to confirm if other Microsoft Reps are claiming similar things. So, we advise that you take what you've read here with a grain of salt until we can get more concrete information regarding the matter. Delivering through the Windows Store is interesting, as the first time around it really didn't work as well as many had hoped it would. Windows 8.1 launched in the Store with errors and super slow download speeds, which many users were not happy about. In the meantime, what are you hoping for in Windows 8.1 Update 2? It was recently rumored that the Start Menu, that was originally supposed to arrive in Windows 8.1 Update 2, won't be making it's way to our computers until 2015 with Windows 9, so a Start Menu is off the list for now. 9. It seems the USPTO granted a Microsoft smart-wristband slash smart-watch patent from 2013. The patent drawings are very detailed and give a good peek at what Microsoft's first commercial smart-wearable might look and feel like. They portray an "ornamental design for an electronic band" that features an armband and an embedded computer that snaps securely onto it. Instead of sporty and aggressive, Microsoft's newly patented device looks clean and sleek, which probably means this isn't another fancy sports tracker, but a legitimate smart companion device that's meant to be worn like a traditional watch. Of course, it is not yet known whether the final product's design will appear as patented, or whether the device will become a reality at all. But Microsoft doesn't seem like a company that would miss an emerging trend - especially when Apple's take on the matter could be right around the corner. Source
  10. Wouldn't it be cool if Microsoft offered a subscription for all of it's services? Hear me out, because it's almost inevitable that Windows will soon be subscription based, and we've already got Xbox LIVE, Xbox Music and Office 365. Now, throw in 100GB of OneDrive storage and bam! You've got an all-in-one, convenient subscription for everything you need. OnePass would allow consumers to pay for Windows, Office, Xbox LIVE, Xbox Music and 100GB of OneDrive storage all for $99 a year. You'll also be able to choose between monthly and semi-yearly subscriptions too, but the yearly subscription will be for the best as it's the cheapest and most convenient. Now, you're probably thinking "How the hell would Microsoft make any money from this?", it's pretty simple if you think about it. Windows is too expensive. $99 for the base-line version of Windows is outrageous, and the industry standard is moving away from paid operating systems. Mac OS X is becoming free, Chrome OS is already free and Microsoft even had to give away Windows 8.1 to Windows 8 users for free. I can bet that within the next ten years, nobody will be buying Windows. Instead, they'll be using some other alternative because Windows is simply too expensive. Now, I'm not saying Microsoft would make more money from this subscription. In reality they'll lose money. But, as the industry moves forward, Microsoft needs to make that change. Offering all their services under one convenient subscription would boost the amount of users who use each individual service. I know for a fact that not everybody uses Xbox Music, and OnePass would change that. I already find myself squinting at having to pay for Windows, and then Xbox LIVE, Xbox Music, OneDrive Storage and Office all on top of that. I'd much prefer having it under OnePass, which could easily be managed from the Microsoft Account page. Heck, it could even be customizable. Add your own services to the subscription for an additional price. Use Skype? You can add that to your subscription for $5.99 per month, or something along those lines. Now, I'm not saying Microsoft would ever consider something like this, and even if they did I'm sure they'd have the pricing worked out a little better than this to make sure they earn the maximum amount of money possible, but they definitely could do it, and it wouldn't surprise me if Microsoft had something like this planned for the future. New Windows 9 Details Leak

Windows 9 is expected to be the next full Windows version prepared by Microsoft and although the company has until now remained tight-lipped on what's to come as part of this release, plenty of details have surfaced via unofficial channels. A new report posted by Microsoft News and citing information provided by Faikee, a Twitter user who has a good track on leaked Windows details, reveals that Windows 9 might after all arrive in Q2 or Q3 2015, which more or less confirms previous speculation pointing to an April 2015 launch date. At the same time, Faikee says that Windows 9 might come with two different previews, which means that developers might actually get the chance to try out the new OS version in late 2014 when the first beta is likely to be released to users. Microsoft hasn't talked about Windows 9 so far, but we do know that the next full version of Windows could bring some pretty big changes for desktop users, including the addition of a desktop flavor of Cortana, Microsoft's personal assistant currently available on Windows Phone 8.1. Recent rumors also suggested that Microsoft might after all give users the option to disable Metro completely in Windows 9 Enterprise, thus sticking on the classic desktop interface that made so many people love this particular operating system. Microsoft, on the other hand, doesn't seem to be ready to abandon the Modern and the company actually invested a lot to make users get to know the Start screen better. In fact, Microsoft's executives admitted in recent interviews that the Start screen was offered on Windows 8 with no Start menu option in order to make everyone aware that it's there. Otherwise, the company says, users could be tempted to disable it in order to stick to the familiar Windows 7-like interface. Windows 9 could bring back the Start menu if Microsoft doesn't pick another Windows 8.1 update to do it, but people close to the matter said that while the company is already working on this new feature, it might take a while until it's released to users. The Start menu was initially expected in Windows 8.1 Update 2, which is scheduled to be launched in August or September, but if these reports are true, Windows 9 might be the OS version to bring it. As usual, Microsoft does not comment on speculation, so let's just take these as rumors until the company is ready to provide some details on Windows 9. Source
  14. Viber has released a new version of its desktop app for Windows, OS X and Linux that puts a lot of efforts and focus into stickers. The messaging company has also announced an important milestone – more than 100 million users are now using its service. For those of you that aren’t familiar with Viber stickers these are basically emoticons on steroids that are downloaded in sets – some of which are free and others cost a few bucks. Now that the new Viber for desktop is released users can dock a sticker menu alongside their conversations and even search for stickers within the app. The Viber desktop app has seen a design overhaul as well and offers upgraded video quality and performance. The Viber support site is also now available in Spanish and Portuguese. Viber has been evolving rapidly for some time now. The messaging service recently set to challenge Skype with its Viber Out calling service. The messaging service world is particularly cutthroat nowadays with giants like WhatsApp and Facebook fighting the likes of Skype and BlackBerry Messenger. Apple has its iMessage (which recently benefited from some out of the box thinking), Google has its Hangouts and now Viber. The end user gets a lot of cool services for free though so we’re grateful. 16. Every month, the good folks from the Net Market Share reveal the current status of browsers and operating systems. Now, let's see how various Web browsers fared in the last month. The Internet Explorer has continued its massive dominance in the market. Internet Explorer 8 remains the most used Web browser. The stats suggest that more people have started using IE8, as its share went up from 21.25 percent to 21.56 percent. At the second sport surfs Internet Explorer 11, the current version of the giant Web browser. Its share has gone down from 17.01 percent to 16.78 percent. The biggest fall has been marked by Chrome 35, whose share went down from 12.5 percent to 9.08 percent. Whereas, the recently launched Chrome 36 has already snagged 5.72 percent share. It’s absurd that people are still using Chrome, despite the fact that it is after their laptop's battery. In some other changes, the share of Internet Explorer 9 surged a bit from 9.03 percent to 9.06 percent, whereas, Firefox 30 also climbed up from 5.62 percent it had a month earlier to 9.27 percent. 19. Bromium Labs today issued its "Endpoint Exploitation Trends" report that shows Internet Explorer set a record high for reported vulnerabilities in the first half of 2014, and also leads in publicly reported exploits. According to Bromium, "Internet Explorer took the cap for historic high number of security patches in over a decade, and that feat was accomplished in the first six months of 2014!" It's not all bad news for users of Internet Explorer though. While the browser was easily the most exploited tool, Microsoft has been reacting much quicker to plug vulnerabilities. The company took more than 90 days to release its first patch for IE9, yet IE11’s first critical patch emerged just five days after the new browser was generally available. Bromium says "In the first half of 2014, the growth in zero day exploitation continued unabated from 2013. Unsurprisingly, all of the zero day attacks targeted end-user applications such as browsers and productivity applications like Microsoft Office. Typically these attacks are launched leveraging users as bait using classic spear-phishing tactics. The notable aspect for this year thus far in 2014 is that Internet Explorer was the most patched and also one of the most exploited products, surpassing Oracle Java, Adobe Flash and others in the fray. Bromium Labs believes that the browser will likely continue to be the sweet spot for attackers". Adobe Flash joins Internet Explorer as one of the most targeted products, with Action Script Sprays among the new techniques used to exploit it. Java, despite its notorious reputation, had no reported zero day exploitations in the first half of 2014, although that might be partially down to users taking action and disabling it, forcing attackers to switch their attentions elsewhere. "End users remain a primary concern for information security professionals because they are the most targeted and most susceptible to attacks" said Rahul Kashyap, chief security architect, Bromium. "Web browsers have always been a favorite avenue of attack, but we are now seeing that hackers are not only getting better at attacking Internet Explorer, they are doing it more frequently". 22. July 2014 Patch Tuesday is here and Microsoft has issued six security bulletins affecting all versions of Internet Explorer, as well as versions of Windows. Two of the bulletins are rated Critical and deal with Remote Code Execution, while three are rated Important and deal with elevation of privileges within Windows. The sixth bulletin is rated Moderate and deals with denial of service attacks. The first bulletin is the most important and is rated Critical. It affects all versions of Internet Explorer from Internet Explorer 6 to 11 and deals with Remote Code Execution. As Qualys states, this patch should be top of your list, since most attacks involve your web browser in some way. The three Important updates deal with elevation of privilege vulnerabilities in all versions of Windows. Windows 8.1 and Windows RT will receive the two Critical updates as well as three Important updates. The Moderate update deals with Microsoft Service Bus for Windows Server. "The Service Bus is a newer component of Windows in use in the Windows Azure environment for the development of loosely coupled applications. In our estimate, few companies will have installed that component, and on Azure, Microsoft will take care of the patching for you," Wolfgang Kandek from Qualys stated. Patch Tuesday rolls out July 8th, so keep an eye on Windows Update for these security fixes. If you have automatic update enabled, you will be prompted for a reboot. Source
  23. AMD reported less-than-expected second quarter results with a net loss of $36 million, despite an increase in quarterly revenue. AMD made $1,44 billion for Q2, 24% more than it did for the same period in 2013. Because of the net loss, AMD’s stock fell 15%. The company also reported that revenue from its Computing Solutions Group dropped 20% from a year ago, to $669 million. The reason is a decrease in microprocessor unit shipments, but thanks to AMD’s large range of products the revenue in general is still looking good. The company expects to make nearly half of its revenue from non-PC markets such as game console chips and low-power servers. This would happen by the end of 2015. 24. I don't know much about networking and telecommunication. My ISP released a press statement some months ago about the new changes in services. Introducing data capping, where you are limited with downloads but unlimited to surf or browse anonymously. So I took it to myself, looking no elsewhere than nsane? Knowing the knowledgeable guys across the Globe. I decided not to contact my ISP I need help and more education on this and how can i bypass it successfully. To enjoy my unlimited downloads as I used to. I trust nsaners to do justice to it. Thanks Guys Best Regards geeteam
