	CD Projekt has been celebrating the <a automate_uuid="0eab815b-1cff-403f-bf6a-f7fd6e4a45eb" href="http://www.neowin.net/news/the-witcher-3-wild-hunt-themed-xbox-controllers-launched-created-by-cd-projekt-designers/" rel="external nofollow">10th anniversary</a> of its wildly successful RPG <em>The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt</em> this month. While the celebrations are finally winding down for the title that has so far sold 60 million copies, the studio had one final surprise for fans: a game update. Announced today, there will be "one more patch" for <em>The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt</em> that will bring cross-platform mod support.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	CD Projekt RED will be leveraging the mod.io platform for this task, letting console players jump into community-created content for no extra cost. The news comes just a year after the company released <a automate_uuid="013497eb-5428-43fc-8e84-3cf0d3d3f085" href="https://www.neowin.net/news/the-witcher-3-wild-hunt-redkit-mod-editor-for-pc-players-will-finally-launch-on-may-21/" rel="external nofollow">official modding tools for the RPG</a>, letting PC players create new quests, worlds, cutscenes, monsters, dialog, and much more to edit and expand on the game.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	The cross-platform modding support will arrive via this final major update to <em>The Witcher 3,</em> though a release date has not been attached to it just yet. CD Projekt says the update will land sometime later this year across PC, Xbox Series X|S, and PlayStation 5. Following that, players will be able to use the mod.io platform to browse and install mods they want, all built by PC players, in their game.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	"However, due to specific content guidelines and selection criteria for each platform, it may not be possible to bring every mod uploaded on PC to console," adds the studio. "Mods available on mod.io must also adhere to our Fan Content Guidelines and CD PROJEKT RED User Agreement."
</p>

	The Korea Herald reports that Samsung has been slapped with a hefty $117.7 million fine after a US federal jury found the electronics giant guilty of patent infringement against Maxell. This all unfolded in the US District Court for the Eastern District of Texas recently, where the jury decided Samsung's Galaxy smartphones, tablets, and a few other gadgets were using three of Maxell's patents without permission.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	These patents cover key functions like how you unlock your device, how digital data is managed, and the way images and videos are reproduced. Samsung has not officially commented on whether an appeal is forthcoming, but initial verdicts in these patent disputes are frequently challenged.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	Now, you might remember Maxell from its iconic <a automate_uuid="a8f7ed76-13d8-40f3-b92d-fc83150100a8" href="https://creativeaudioworks.com/audio-restoration/blown-away-guy-maxell-cassette-commercial/" rel="external nofollow">"Blown Away Guy" audio cassette ads </a>or its dominance in the recording media scene back in the day. Originally a battery maker (the name stands for "Maximum capacity dry cell"), Maxell became a household name for its tapes and floppy disks before shifting more towards industrial components, although it still makes some consumer electronics like batteries and projectors.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	This particular legal fight officially kicked off back in September 2023 when Maxell sued Samsung. Maxell alleged that the Korean giant was violating seven patents by making and selling a whole range of products, including the SmartThings station, various smartphones, laptops, and even home appliances.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	The relationship between these two companies was not always so sour; back in 2011, Samsung actually signed a licensing agreement with Hitachi Consumer Electronics, which was Maxell's predecessor. That deal covered ten patents and ran for ten years, expiring in 2021. Maxell asserts Samsung continued using the patented technology post-expiry and ignored attempts to negotiate a new agreement, leaving Maxell, in its view, with no option but to pursue legal remedies.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	Maxell is also pursuing Samsung in Germany, Japan, and before the US International Trade Commission, and even filed another patent lawsuit against Samsung in Texas this past April.

	An ARM CPU and integrated NVIDIA graphics on the same chip? It looks like it could indeed happen.
</h3>

<p>
	NVIDIA didn't unveil a new processor built for consumer laptops at Computex 2025 as many surmised, but that doesn't mean the project isn't underway.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	A new leak from YouTube's <a data-analytics-id="inline-link" data-hl-processed="none" data-url="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6tASUo7UqNw" href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6tASUo7UqNw" referrerpolicy="no-referrer-when-downgrade" target="_blank" rel="external nofollow">Moore's Law is Dead</a> channel shows off a rough image of a purported NVIDIA APU designed for use in <a data-analytics-id="inline-link" data-auto-tag-linker="true" data-before-rewrite-localise="https://www.windowscentral.com/tag/gaming-laptops" href="https://www.windowscentral.com/tag/gaming-laptops" rel="external nofollow">gaming laptops</a>.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	The limited information now available suggests it will run between 80W and 120W. MLID's source expects NVIDIA to target a Q4 2025 or Q1 2026 release.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	The leak is said to come from an NVIDIA insider who tests APUs, so there's certainly some credibility to the information.

			The "Eng Sample," as it's clearly branded, has eight modules surrounding the main chip. These are likely LPDDR5x memory modules akin to what <a data-analytics-id="inline-link" data-auto-tag-linker="true" data-before-rewrite-localise="https://www.windowscentral.com/tag/amd" href="https://www.windowscentral.com/tag/amd" rel="external nofollow">AMD</a> is doing with its Strix Halo APUs, where the chip relies on the speedy attached memory to boost performance.

					That integrated GPU could hit the same performance as a discrete RTX 4070 Laptop GPU, at least according to a prior leak also provided by <a data-analytics-id="inline-link" data-hl-processed="none" data-url="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JyTRoMXngRk" href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JyTRoMXngRk" referrerpolicy="no-referrer-when-downgrade" target="_blank" rel="external nofollow">Moore's Law is Dead</a>.

					Considering the discrete card runs at up to 115W alone, this could be a massive breakthrough for gaming laptops. No extra heat created by a discrete GPU, and less space needed for the extra cooling.

						</p>

						<p>

						</p>

						<p>
							Let's take a step back and cover some of these terms.
						</p>

						<p>

						</p>

						<p>
							Most importantly, an Accelerated Processing Unit (APU) is a term created by AMD to advertise a CPU and GPU built into the same chip.
						</p>

						<p>

						</p>

						<p>
							That might sound similar to a <a data-analytics-id="inline-link" data-before-rewrite-localise="https://www.windowscentral.com/hardware/laptops/what-is-a-system-on-chip-soc" href="https://www.windowscentral.com/hardware/laptops/what-is-a-system-on-chip-soc" rel="external nofollow">System-on-Chip (SoC</a>), and you're not wrong for thinking so. However, an SoC incorporates more than just the CPU and GPU, adding controllers, networking, etc.
						</p>

						<p>

						</p>

						<p>
							More recently, it's come to include a <a data-analytics-id="inline-link" data-before-rewrite-localise="https://www.windowscentral.com/hardware/what-is-npu-vs-gpu" href="https://www.windowscentral.com/hardware/what-is-npu-vs-gpu" rel="external nofollow">Neural Processing Unit (NPU)</a> for local AI tasks. <a data-analytics-id="inline-link" data-before-rewrite-localise="https://www.windowscentral.com/hardware/laptops/what-is-snapdragon-x-elite" href="https://www.windowscentral.com/hardware/laptops/what-is-snapdragon-x-elite" rel="external nofollow">Qualcomm's Snapdragon X</a> chips found in <a data-analytics-id="inline-link" data-before-rewrite-localise="https://www.windowscentral.com/software-apps/windows-11/-microsoft-copilot-plus-faq" href="https://www.windowscentral.com/software-apps/windows-11/-microsoft-copilot-plus-faq" rel="external nofollow">Copilot+ PCs</a> are a perfect example of an SoC.
						</p>

						<p>

						</p>

						<p>
							The news that NVIDIA is working on an APU didn't come out of nowhere. Rumors began in 2023 when Reuters broke the story about <a data-analytics-id="inline-link" data-before-rewrite-localise="https://www.windowscentral.com/hardware/nvidia-and-amd-reportedly-gearing-up-to-offer-arm-cpus-for-windows-pcs" href="https://www.windowscentral.com/hardware/nvidia-and-amd-reportedly-gearing-up-to-offer-arm-cpus-for-windows-pcs" target="_blank" rel="external nofollow">NVIDIA and AMD both working on ARM processors for Windows PCs</a>.
						</p>

						<p>

						</p>

						<p>
							At the time, it was believed that they'd make a debut sometime in 2025, and the news caused Intel stock to drop.
						</p>

						<p>

						</p>

						<p>
							We also know that NVIDIA is powering the upcoming <a data-analytics-id="inline-link" data-before-rewrite-localise="https://www.windowscentral.com/gaming/nintendo-switch-2-vs-asus-rog-ally" href="https://www.windowscentral.com/gaming/nintendo-switch-2-vs-asus-rog-ally" rel="external nofollow">Nintendo Switch 2</a> with its Tegra T239, an APU using an ARM processor and an Ampere GPU.
						</p>

						<p>

						</p>

						<p>
							NVIDIA has also been focusing on DGX Spark, an AI supercomputer platform powered by its GB10 Grace Blackwell chip. MSI revealed a new EdgeXpert MS-C931 desktop PC based on the DGX Spark platform at Computex 2025.
						</p>

						<p>

						</p>

						<p>
							It's clear that Team Green is ready to step out of its GPU shoes and into a more dominant role in the <a data-analytics-id="inline-link" data-auto-tag-linker="true" data-before-rewrite-localise="https://www.windowscentral.com/tag/windows" href="https://www.windowscentral.com/tag/windows" rel="external nofollow">Windows</a> laptop world.
						</p>

						<p>

						</p>

						<p>
							We'll have to wait until NVIDIA officially reveals the chip, but I expect it will change gaming laptops in a major way when it does.
						</p>

	NVIDIA has announced its financial results for the first quarter of fiscal 2026, which ended April 27, 2025, and the revenue figures are massive, though not without some serious headwinds. The company raked in $44.1 billion, a 69% increase from the same quarter a year ago and a 12% jump from the previous quarter. The <a automate_uuid="2d589f1a-4fee-43ac-86ec-dd5391993381" href="https://www.neowin.net/news/nvidia-once-again-has-a-blowout-financial-quarter-but-its-share-price-is-currently-down/" rel="external nofollow">last time we reported on NVIDIA's fiscal quarter earnings</a>, the company was smashing expectations for its second fiscal quarter of 2024, posting what many called a blowout financial quarter with $30 billion in revenue and a massive 122% year-over-year jump.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	This time, aside from the revenue, the big headline grabber is a $4.5 billion hit NVIDIA took. This charge is tied to its H20 products for the Chinese market, thanks to the U.S. government deciding on April 9, 2025, that new licenses are needed for export. Before these new rules, H20 products actually sold $4.6 billion in this same quarter, and NVIDIA was unable to ship an additional $2.5 billion worth. This charge dragged GAAP earnings per diluted share down to $0.76 and non-GAAP to $0.81; without it,<a automate_uuid="05a5f059-ca02-46bc-9c4e-b05cb2b6ed83" href="https://nvidianews.nvidia.com/news/nvidia-announces-financial-results-for-first-quarter-fiscal-2026" rel="external nofollow"> NVIDIA notes</a>, non-GAAP earnings per share would have been a healthier $0.96.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	Despite these challenges, CEO Jensen Huang remains bullish, stating, "Global demand for NVIDIA’s AI infrastructure is incredibly strong." Huang pointed to the Blackwell NVL72 AI supercomputer, now in full-scale production, and a tenfold surge in AI inference token generation in just one year. Data Center revenue certainly reflects this, hitting $39.1 billion, up 73% year-over-year. Gaming also had a record quarter with $3.8 billion in revenue, boosted by new cards like the <a automate_uuid="28770961-73da-4585-8a54-1645f1d132f4" href="https://www.neowin.net/news/there-is-no-shortage-of-rtx-5070-cards-includeing-fe-in-europe-and-prices-are-going-down/" rel="external nofollow">GeForce RTX 5070</a> and the <a automate_uuid="58e80661-75b2-4ebf-b5de-f9bc93b0bae6" href="https://www.neowin.net/news/nintendo-switch-2-out-june-5-featuring-120fps-lcd-display-and-256gb-storage/" rel="external nofollow">upcoming Nintendo Switch 2</a>, which will feature an NVIDIA processor and AI-powered DLSS.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	Looking ahead to the second quarter of fiscal 2026, NVIDIA expects revenue around $45.0 billion. Crucially, this forecast already accounts for an estimated $8.0 billion loss in H20 revenue due to those export controls. The company is also working to get its gross margins back into the mid-70% range later in the year, after the H20 charge pushed the Q1 non-GAAP gross margin to 61.0% (it would have been 71.3% without the charge). NVIDIA also announced its next quarterly cash dividend of $0.01 per share, payable on July 3, 2025.

	Developers at Push On reveal gameplay for Alkahest, an RPG with a stylish combat system that combines swordplay with alchemy.
</h3>

<p>
	On May 22, 2025, IGN showed off a teaser trailer for a new <a data-analytics-id="inline-link" data-before-rewrite-localise="https://www.windowscentral.com/best-upcoming-xbox-games" href="https://www.windowscentral.com/best-upcoming-xbox-games" target="_blank" rel="external nofollow">upcoming Xbox title</a> with a similarly <a data-analytics-id="inline-link" data-before-rewrite-localise="https://www.windowscentral.com/gaming/pc-gaming/upcoming-pc-games-list" href="https://www.windowscentral.com/gaming/pc-gaming/upcoming-pc-games-list" target="_blank" rel="external nofollow">upcoming PC port</a> named Alkahest. This game, developed by Push On and published by HypeTrain Digital, is a first-person RPG set in a medieval, dark fantasy world where the player must wield an arsenal of weapons and dangerous alchemical potions to defeat hordes of vicious monsters.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	The teaser trailer released by IGN gives us a glimpse of what Aklahest's combat will look like, and so far, it looks insane.

	</div>
</div>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	The teaser trailer (as well as its reveal trailer shown in June 2024) showcases the player character utilizing the environment, performing acrobatic swordplay, and conducting deadly potions in the middle of combat to slay their foes.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	As for what the story is about, Alkahest takes place in Kadanor, a kingdom embroiled in civil war between three powerful noble houses. You play as the youngest son of a petty lord destined to rot in obscurity.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	To defy your fate, you embark on a quest across the kingdom to make a name for yourself by exploring the land for long-lost treasure, taking on jobs for locals, and quelling an unusual rise of goblin raids on the county border.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	The developers state on the game's Steam page that Alkahest's combat system will feature advanced melee combos and a large focus on interacting with the environment, like cutting down trees or using nearby siege equipment to slay enemies.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	Additionally, another huge component of Alkahest's gameplay will be Alchemy. By locating various recipes on their travels, players will be able to create all kinds of alchemical items like flammable grenades, healing potions, and weapon oils. You can even sneak in some poison in an NPC's pocket to take out stealthily.

			</div>
		</div>

		<p>

		</p>

		<p>
			What's interesting is that, according to the developers, Alkahest is inspired by games like <a data-analytics-id="inline-link" data-before-rewrite-localise="https://www.windowscentral.com/tag/kingdom-come-deliverance-0" href="https://www.windowscentral.com/tag/kingdom-come-deliverance-0" target="_blank" rel="external nofollow">Kingdom Come: Deliverance </a>and <a data-analytics-id="inline-link" data-before-rewrite-localise="https://www.windowscentral.com/tag/dishonored" href="https://www.windowscentral.com/tag/dishonored" target="_blank" rel="external nofollow">Dishonored</a>. While I haven't played the former, I have played the latter, and I definitely see some of Dishonored's melee combat in Alkahest.
		</p>

		<p>

		</p>

		<p>
			Aside from that, the combat looks unbelievable, maybe too unbelievable. After all, for all we know, these trailers could be pre-rendered cutscenes, and the final game could look totally different.
		</p>

		<p>

		</p>

		<p>
			But then again, people have said the same thing about the combat trailers for <a data-analytics-id="inline-link" data-before-rewrite-localise="https://www.windowscentral.com/tag/black-myth-wukong" href="https://www.windowscentral.com/tag/black-myth-wukong" target="_blank" rel="external nofollow">Black Myth: Wukong</a> when that game first revealed itself, and the final product lived up to the hype (despite some jarring level design choices we found in our <a data-analytics-id="inline-link" data-before-rewrite-localise="https://www.windowscentral.com/gaming/black-myth-wukong-review" href="https://www.windowscentral.com/gaming/black-myth-wukong-review" target="_blank" rel="external nofollow">review of Black Myth: Wukong</a>).
		</p>

		<p>

		</p>

		<p>
			Will Alkahest's combat system be just as fun to play as it is to watch from the trailers? We'll have to wait to find out when Alkahest eventually launches on <a data-analytics-id="inline-link" data-before-rewrite-localise="https://www.windowscentral.com/tag/xbox-series-x" href="https://www.windowscentral.com/tag/xbox-series-x" target="_blank" rel="external nofollow">Xbox Series X</a>|<a data-analytics-id="inline-link" data-before-rewrite-localise="https://www.windowscentral.com/tag/xbox-series-s" href="https://www.windowscentral.com/tag/xbox-series-s" target="_blank" rel="external nofollow">S</a>, <a data-analytics-id="inline-link" data-before-rewrite-localise="https://www.windowscentral.com/tag/playstation-5" href="https://www.windowscentral.com/tag/playstation-5" target="_blank" rel="external nofollow">PlayStation 5</a>, and PC via <a data-analytics-id="inline-link" data-auto-tag-linker="true" data-before-rewrite-localise="https://www.windowscentral.com/tag/windows" href="https://www.windowscentral.com/tag/windows" rel="external nofollow">Windows</a> and <a data-analytics-id="inline-link" data-before-rewrite-localise="https://www.windowscentral.com/gaming/steam" data-before-rewrite-redirect="https://www.windowscentral.com/tag/steam" href="https://www.windowscentral.com/gaming/steam" target="_blank" rel="external nofollow">Steam</a>.

<p>
	The Witcher 4 stars Ciri as the protagonist and is being developed using Unreal Engine 5, but otherwise, there's a lot we still don't know. The Witcher 4 (previously codenamed "Polaris") is meant to be the start of a new trilogy of games.

	<strong>CD Projekt says the sequel to Cyberpunk 2077 is now in the preproduction stage.</strong>
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	The sequel, which until recently was known as Project Orion, is being headed by CD Projekt Red’s new North American arm, which has studios in Boston and Vancouver.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	According to a statement accompanying its Q1 2025 financial report, the publisher stated that the sequel, which it now refers to as simply Cyberpunk 2, has entered the next stage of the development process.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	“Several weeks ago the CD Projekt Red team responsible for the next big game set in the Cyberpunk universe completed the project’s conceptual phase,” the statement reads. “As a result, Cyberpunk 2 – previously known under the codename Project Orion – has progressed to preproduction.”
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	CD Projekt also announced that Cyberpunk 2077‘s expansion Phantom Liberty has now sold more than 10 million copies, ahead of the release of Cyberpunk 2077: Ultimate Edition on Switch 2 (which also contains Phantom Liberty).
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	“This result fills us with great satisfaction, especially given that a new addition is about to join our Cyberpunk portfolio [when] on 5 June the game’s Ultimate Edition will be coming to the new Nintendo Switch 2 console,” CD
</p>

<p>
	Projekt co-CEO Michał Nowakowski said.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	“Positive reactions from gamers and media representatives who have had the opportunity to play the game at a series of global Nintendo events fill us with optimism. It’s worth noting that for the first time ever one of our games will become a launch title for a brand new platform.”
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	Last week Mike Pondsmith, who created the Cyberpunk IP, said the Cyberpunk 2077 sequel features a new city that feels like “Chicago gone wrong”.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	Pondsmith revealed that he’s not as involved with the second game as he was with 2077, but said he’s keeping track of its progress. The game designer went on to claim that the sequel will feature Night City, as well as a second, unspecified location.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	“I’m not as involved directly, but I see the scripts,” Pondsmith said. “Last week I was wandering around talking to different departments and seeing what they had like, ‘this is the new Cyberware, what do you think?’
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	“I spent a lot of time talking to one of the environment guys, and he was explaining how the new place… because there’s another city that we visit, and I’m not telling you anymore than that, but there’s another city that we visit. Night City is still there.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	“I remember looking at it and going, ‘I understand the feel that you’re going for, and this really does work, it doesn’t feel like Blade Runner, it feels more like Chicago gone wrong’. And I said, ‘yeah, I can see this working’.”
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	Also in its financial results, CD Projekt confirmed that The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt has now sold over 60 million copies since its release 10 years ago.

	Judge expected to take months to weigh Meta monopoly trial verdict.
</h3>

<p style="font-weight: 400;">
	After weeks of arguments in the Federal Trade Commission's monopoly trial, Meta is done defending its decade-plus-old acquisitions of Instagram and WhatsApp—at least for now.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p style="font-weight: 400;">
	The seven-week trial ended Tuesday, with the FTC urging Judge James Boasberg to rule that a breakup is necessary to end Meta's alleged monopoly in the "personal social networking services" market, where Meta currently faces sparse competition among other apps connecting friends and family. As alleged by the FTC, <a href="https://arstechnica.com/tech-policy/2025/04/ftcs-monopoly-case-hinges-on-zuckerbergs-damaging-texts-emails/" rel="external nofollow">Meta's internal emails laid bare</a> that Meta's motive in acquiring both Instagram and WhatsApp was to pay whatever it took to snuff out dominant rivals threatening to lure users away from Facebook—Mark Zuckerberg's jewel.

<p style="font-weight: 400;">
	Talking <a href="https://www.bloomberg.com/news/articles/2025-05-27/meta-s-future-lies-with-judge-as-ftc-antitrust-trial-ends" rel="external nofollow">to Bloomberg</a>, Meta has maintained that the FTC's case is weak, seeking to undo deals that the FTC approved long ago while ignoring the competition Meta faces from rivals in the broader social media market, like TikTok. But Meta's attempt to shut down the case mid-trial was rebuffed by Boasberg, who has signaled he will take months to weigh his decision.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p style="font-weight: 400;">
	In a statement, Meta's spokesperson told Ars that Meta spent six weeks defending its deals while the FTC showed "that no deal is ever truly final." Meta appears "confident" that the case will end in a win, Sruthi Thatchenkery, an assistant professor of strategy at Vanderbilt University’s Owen Graduate School of Management, told Bloomberg, noting that it's "very hard to unwind a merger."
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p style="font-weight: 400;">
	"The only thing the FTC showed was the dynamic, hyper-competitive nature of the past, present, and future of the technology industry," Meta's spokesperson said.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p style="font-weight: 400;">
	Boasberg is not expected to hold closing arguments, The New York Times <a href="https://www.nytimes.com/2025/05/27/technology/meta-antitrust-trial-concludes.html" rel="external nofollow">reported</a>. Instead, Meta and the FTC will file follow-up briefings over the summer, after which Boasberg has said he will work "expeditiously" to arrive at a ruling on whether Meta's purchases violated antitrust law. His ruling could come before the end of the year, Bloomberg reported.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p style="font-weight: 400;">
	It's unclear which way Boasberg is leaning or if he would even require a breakup in the event of an FTC win. Bloomberg noted that the judge "will have some latitude to come up with his own solution," perhaps finding "that only one of the deals was illegal" and requiring "only a sale of that service." The FTC has also recommended <a href="https://arstechnica.com/tech-policy/2025/05/meta-says-no-proof-of-monopoly-power-wants-ftc-case-dismissed-mid-trial/" rel="external nofollow">requiring Meta to make its platforms interoperable with other platforms</a>, which experts told Ars would spur competition by giving users an easy way to port their entire social network to a rival app if Meta's apps become too degraded.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p style="font-weight: 400;">
	Experts note that there's also a chance the FTC and Meta reach a settlement before the verdict comes, although the FTC supposedly previously rejected Meta's $1 billion settlement bid, The Wall Street Journal <a href="https://www.wsj.com/us-news/law/mark-zuckerberg-meta-antitrust-ftc-negotiations-a53b3382" rel="external nofollow">reported</a>.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p style="font-weight: 400;">
	The FTC has said a breakup spinning off both apps is necessary, with a senior official last week telling press that the Meta case seemingly hits at the very heart of antitrust law, the NYT reported.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p style="font-weight: 400;">
	"This case presents a very important legal principle, which is that a firm that is a monopolist cannot acquire its most threatening competitors," the FTC official said. "Antitrust law requires competition on the merits, even in digital markets, and it’s competition on the merits that drives innovation and ultimately helps consumers."
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p style="font-weight: 400;">
	Although the FTC has not commented on the trial ending, a spokesperson previously alleged that Meta's entire defense came from "primarily its own self-interested executives and paid experts."
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p style="font-weight: 400;">
	Whichever side wins, the other side is expected to quickly appeal, and if the FTC wins, the trial will continue as Boasberg evaluates potential remedies. Meta—which the NYT described as putting its future in Boasberg's hands—will likely defend its deals to the end, as "Instagram is now Meta's biggest money maker in the US," accounting for more than 50 percent of its ad revenue in 2025, The Guardian <a href="https://www.theguardian.com/technology/2025/apr/14/meta-trial-instagram-whatsapp-monopoly" rel="external nofollow">reported</a>.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p style="font-weight: 400;">
	"Meta is a proud American success story, and we look forward to continuing to innovate and serve the people and businesses who love our services," Meta's spokesperson said.
</p>

<h2>
	Experts aren’t so sure Meta has clinched it
</h2>

<p style="font-weight: 400;">
	Boasberg has said that the key question he must answer is whether the FTC's market definition is too narrow.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p style="font-weight: 400;">
	Arguing against the market definition, Meta has said that <a href="https://arstechnica.com/tech-policy/2025/04/at-monopoly-trial-zuckerberg-redefined-social-media-as-texting-with-friends/" rel="external nofollow">connecting friends and family isn't even Meta apps' "core use" anymore</a>, as an evolving competitive social media landscape has forced Meta to turn its newsfeeds into discovery engines to rival TikTok. Justin Teresi, an antitrust analyst, told Bloomberg that because the FTC failed to show that users primarily come to Meta apps to connect with friends and family, it may have strengthened Meta's case.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p style="font-weight: 400;">
	Rebecca Allensworth, a Vanderbilt law professor and antitrust expert, told Bloomberg that the "FTC’s narrowly defined market was always the weakest part of its case," but the government "has done a nice job of minimizing that weakness" by showing that apps that don't connect friends and family aren't adequate substitutes for Meta's apps.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p style="font-weight: 400;">
	"This was evident when Meta saw spikes in usage on holidays," Allensworth suggested, which is perhaps "a sign people were turning to its products to connect with loved ones."
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p style="font-weight: 400;">
	Teresi thinks Meta has a 60 percent shot at winning the trial, although he criticized Meta's seeming defense that any company competing for online ad dollars competes with Meta. That argument may have broadened the market definition too much, he suggested.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p style="font-weight: 400;">
	"If you’re saying that the relevant market here is competing for advertising dollars, then you could throw anything in there," Teresi said. "You could throw TV in there, you could throw print in there if you wanted to, and there’s really no end to that concept."
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p style="font-weight: 400;">
	Allensworth was less confident in Meta's chances, telling Bloomberg, "I really actually think this could go either way."
</p>

	A few months ago, users were reporting that their <a data-wpel-link="internal" href="https://www.ghacks.net/2025/04/03/amd-confirms-ryzen-9000-failures-were-due-to-a-memory-compatibility-issue-recommends-bios-update/" rel="external nofollow" target="_blank">AMD CPUs</a> were failing to boot. This was happening primarily on ASRock AM5 motherboards, and now the company says it has identified the problem.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	YouTube channel <a data-wpel-link="external" href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sbzDlR4omF4" rel="external nofollow" target="_blank">Tech Yes City</a> claims that ASRock's investigation discovered that the issue is related to AMD's <a data-wpel-link="internal" href="https://www.ghacks.net/2022/04/07/amd-gpu-drivers-are-overclocking-cpus-on-their-own/" rel="external nofollow" target="_blank">Precision Boost Overdrive</a> (PBO). This feature is an automatic overclocking feature for Ryzen CPUs, which uses an algorithm to dynamically adjust the power limits, voltages, clock speeds.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	Specifically, it appears to be an amperage problem that affects the Electric Design Current (EDC) and Thermal Design Current (TDC) on ASRock motherboards. ASRock representatives stated that the motherboards were configured too aggressively to handle the PBO for <a data-wpel-link="internal" href="https://www.ghacks.net/2025/04/01/over-100-ryzen-7-9800x3d-premature-failures-reported-mostly-on-asrock-motherboards/" rel="external nofollow" target="_blank">Ryzen 9000</a> CPUs. It would result in EDC and TDC being set at a higher range for early CPU samples, which ended up in the processors dying prematurely, especially on mid-range and high-end motherboards.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	ASRock says that the PBO issues have been fixed in the latest BIOS update that it has released. The company has also clarified that its budget motherboards should not be affected by the issue. But ASRock users were <a data-wpel-link="external" href="https://www.reddit.com/r/Amd/comments/1kvvykl/asrock_answered_me_why_ryzen_9000_cpus_are_dying/" rel="external nofollow" target="_blank">not impressed</a> by this announcement, and have called out the company for trying to shift the blame. Questions are also being raised about the fix, and whether it actually solves the problem. AMD has not released a statement about this.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	Meanwhile, More than Moore's <a data-wpel-link="external" href="https://x.com/IanCutress/status/1927446755425005679" rel="external nofollow" target="_blank">Dr. Ian Cutress</a> says that an engineer told him that certain versions of Ryzen Master will put the CPU in PBO mode automatically when the app is installed. But, it won't tell you that the mode is enabled. This cannot be blocked via the BIOS, and the only workaround is to open the app, enable the feature and disable it manually.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	<a data-wpel-link="external" href="https://www.tomshardware.com/pc-components/cpus/asrock-attributes-premature-ryzen-9000-cpu-failures-to-aggressive-pbo-settings-per-youtuber" rel="external nofollow" target="_blank">Tom's Hardware</a> reports that ASRock had initially dismissed the motherboard failure reports as misinformation, and even denied that the problems were due to memory incompatibilities, and that it should release a public advisory to alert users about the BIOS update and protect potential failures.

	Qualcomm didn't unveil next-gen Snapdragon X chips at Computex. Will that prove to be a mistake?
</h3>

<p>
	<a data-analytics-id="inline-link" data-before-rewrite-localise="https://www.windowscentral.com/tag/computex" href="https://www.windowscentral.com/tag/computex" target="_blank" rel="external nofollow">Computex 2025</a> wrapped up on May 23 after a week of countless new product announcements from major tech players. However, one exception stands out: Qualcomm.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	Qualcomm's AI-heavy Computex 2025 presentation notably avoided discussing the next generation of Snapdragon X chips. Instead, it went heavy on AI capabilities with its available hardware. AI performance numbers, AI integration plans, AI and <a data-analytics-id="inline-link" data-before-rewrite-localise="https://www.windowscentral.com/hardware/i-finally-tried-windows-on-arm-after-four-years" href="https://www.windowscentral.com/hardware/i-finally-tried-windows-on-arm-after-four-years" rel="external nofollow">Snapdragon on ARM</a> ... you get the point.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	It's no secret that Qualcomm didn't create its <a data-analytics-id="inline-link" data-before-rewrite-localise="https://www.windowscentral.com/hardware/laptops/qualcomm-snapdragon-x-elite-arms-race-for-windows-laptops" href="https://www.windowscentral.com/hardware/laptops/qualcomm-snapdragon-x-elite-arms-race-for-windows-laptops" rel="external nofollow">Snapdragon X platform</a> as a one-and-done offering, so the lack of news regarding a new generation of hardware was particularly noticeable.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	Qualcomm's side doesn't seem concerned with the delayed announcement scheduling. It has its annual Snapdragon Summit planned for September 2025, and it's now clear that Qualcomm is saving its next-gen chips for the occasion.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	But why an extended delay between the next generation of Snapdragon X chips?

						</p>

						<p>

						</p>

						<p>
							<em>"I'm not worried about our competitors coming out with something. [...] We're sustained in performance-per-watt, and we have relationships that are strong across retail and commercial, and we have marketing campaigns that are now very much concentrated on Snapdragon."</em>
						</p>

						<p>

						</p>

						<p>
							Katouzian further shored up the argument by pointing out that Snapdragon X devices haven't been available on the market since the initial 2023 announcement:
						</p>

						<p>

						</p>

						<p>
							<em>"We introduced our solution at Computex that would already have designs that we launched in May with Microsoft last year. And so, we're only in the market for nine months. <p>

						</p>

						<p>
							Katouzian explained to Laptop Mag that Qualcomm is targeting a "tick-tock" release cycle akin to what Apple used to do with its iPhones.
						</p>

						<p>

						</p>

						<p>
							<em>"I think it's OK to come in as a tick-tock. We come in and then four months from now we're going to introduce our next-generation solution, and then it'll ramp into market early 2026. As long as people and OEMs understand that this continuous advantage is coming, I'm OK."</em>

	The latest Monster Hunter Wilds Director's Letter addresses upcoming content for it's May update, including more Tempered monsters, weapon balance changes, and playing as Akuma from Street Fighter 6
</h3>

<p>
	Yuya Tokuda, the director for <a data-analytics-id="inline-link" data-before-rewrite-localise="https://www.windowscentral.com/tag/monster-hunter-wilds" href="https://www.windowscentral.com/tag/monster-hunter-wilds" rel="external nofollow" target="_blank">Monster Hunter Wilds</a>, has uploaded a Director's Letter recapping all the new content that will be added to the game in its next update, launching on May 28, 2025.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	The May Update will include all kinds of new activities for players to indulge in, like a <a data-analytics-id="inline-link" data-before-rewrite-localise="https://www.windowscentral.com/tag/street-fighter-6" href="https://www.windowscentral.com/tag/street-fighter-6" rel="external nofollow" target="_blank">Street Fighter 6</a> Collaboration quest, new Tempered Monsters to slay, balance adjustments to weapons, and more.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	Here are the biggest highlights for Monster Hunter Wilds' May Update (<a data-analytics-id="inline-link" data-hl-processed="none" data-url="https://www.monsterhunter.com/wilds/en-uk/topics/director-letter-2505/" href="https://www.monsterhunter.com/wilds/en-uk/topics/director-letter-2505/" referrerpolicy="no-referrer-when-downgrade" rel="external nofollow" target="_blank">as taken from Monster Hunter Wilds' official website</a>).

			</div>
		</div>
	</div>
</div>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	The first major content highlight (and undoubtedly the star of the update), is a collaboration with Street Fighter 6, the latest entry in <a data-analytics-id="inline-link" data-before-rewrite-localise="https://www.windowscentral.com/tag/capcom" href="https://www.windowscentral.com/tag/capcom" rel="external nofollow" target="_blank">Capcom</a>'s flagship fighting game series.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	In this collab, players will embark on several new quests where they will get to interact with Akuma, one of the deadliest fighters in the entire Street Fighter universe. Upon completing these quests, you will get to unlock a special armor set and cosmetic layered armor that transform you into Akuma himself.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	Unlike the Akuma armor set previously featured in <a data-analytics-id="inline-link" data-before-rewrite-localise="https://www.windowscentral.com/tag/monster-hunter-rise" href="https://www.windowscentral.com/tag/monster-hunter-rise" rel="external nofollow" target="_blank">Monster Hunter Rise</a>, Monster Hunter Wilds' version will grant you special items that grant you the ability to perform Akuma's moves and combos lifted directly from Street Fighter 6.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	If you wear the regular armor set and layered set together, it will power up these moves to the point where they could deal significant damage to even the toughest monsters in the game.

				</p>

				<p>

				</p>

				<p>
					These new 8* Tempered Monsters are Gore Magala, Rey Dau, Uth Duna, Nu Udra, and Jin Dahaad. These buffed up beasties will have more health, better resistence to the wounding mechanics, and have increased stats for multiplayer scaling.

									Lastly, Capcom listed several quality-of-life improvements and other minor new features that will be added in Monster Hunter Wilds' May Update. These changes (as taken on the official Monster Hunter Wilds website) includes:
								</p>

								<p>

								</p>

								<ul>
									<li>
										Hunters will be able to rest in the Grand Hub and Suja, Peaks of Accord. Resting restores all destroyed Pop-up Camps.
									</li>
									<li>
										A confirmation window will no longer appear after obtaining an item when your item pouch is full. The obtained item will automatically be sent to your item box.
									</li>
									<li>
										The visibility of the remaining time of meal effects is improved. The countdown will display 10 minutes before expiration.
									</li>
									<li>
										Notifications have also been adjusted in Ver. 1.011. Notification frequency in locales has been lowered, and only high-priority targets will be displayed in the Environment Overview.
									</li>
									<li>
										Improvements to Camera behavior during hunts, and joining multiplayer quests for private lobbies and squad lobbies.
									</li>
									<li>
										Being able to view the individual endemic life you have captured.
									</li>
									<li>
										Optimizations to VRAM usage and fixes to crashes due to insufficient VRAM. <strong>(Steam only)</strong>.
									</li>
									<li>
										The rewards for 8★ investigations and field surveys have been increased.
									</li>
									<li>
										Guild Point rewards for fishing have been rebalanced.
									</li>
									<li>
										Certain whoppers and rare fish have had their rewards increased, while others have had their rewards decreased.
									</li>

									</div>
								</div>

								<p>

								</p>

								<p>
									All the new content coming to Monster Hunter Wilds in this update sounds pretty cool, especially if you're a fan of both Street Fighter and Monster Hunter.
								</p>

								<p>

								</p>

								<p>
									Monster Hunter has had crossovers with Street Fighter ever since Monster Hunter 4, but this is probably the craziest one yet, as I've never seen an armor set flat give you an additional move-set on top of your equipped weapon type. I'm curious to see how it will play out and if it will influence the abilities of other collaboration gear in the future.
								</p>

								<p>

								</p>

								<p>
									However, what I'm most interested in is the new batch of 8★ Tempered Monsters. I have gone on record multiple times that <a data-analytics-id="inline-link" data-before-rewrite-localise="https://www.windowscentral.com/gaming/monster-hunter-wilds-refuses-the-player-any-real-danger" href="https://www.windowscentral.com/gaming/monster-hunter-wilds-refuses-the-player-any-real-danger" rel="external nofollow" target="_blank">Monster Hunter Wilds' difficulty was extremely disappointing for hardcore fans like me</a>.
								</p>

								<p>

								</p>

								<p>
									One of the many major issues I had was that a majority of the monsters (except for 8★ Tempered Arkveld), just felt so weak to fight due to relatively low HP and getting constantly get stun-locked by this game's Wound and Focus Strike mechanics to the point where they couldn't fight back half the time.

										</p>

										<p>
											<em><span>Arch-Tempered Rey Dau was the first true challenge for hardcore Monster Hunter fans in Monster Hunter Wilds. </span></em>
										</p>

										<p>
											<em><span itemprop="copyrightHolder">(Image credit: Capcom)</span></em>
										</p>

										<p>

										</p>

										<p>
											When Arch-Tempered Rey Dau and High Rank Zoh Shia arrived in the <a data-analytics-id="inline-link" data-before-rewrite-localise="https://www.windowscentral.com/gaming/monster-hunter-wilds-releases-patch-notes-for-its-1st-title-update" href="https://www.windowscentral.com/gaming/monster-hunter-wilds-releases-patch-notes-for-its-1st-title-update" rel="external nofollow" target="_blank">First Title Update</a>, I was excited because they were the first monsters I fought in the whole game that posed a real challenge.
										</p>

										<p>

										</p>

										<p>
											They had tons of health, hit like trucks, and they weren't being tripped constantly by attacking their Wounded parts. It was one of the few times I had to put in effort and use the game's combat mechanics to their fullest to achieve victory, and it was a breath of fresh air.
										</p>

										<p>

										</p>

										<p>
											Seeing that resiliency is being applied to the new batch 8★ Tempered Monsters in the May update is a step in the right direction to help make the endgame content more appealing for players.
										</p>

										<p>

										</p>

										<div>
											<div>
												<p>
													<img alt="In-game cinematic screenshot of a player encountering a Doshaguma." class="ipsImage" height="720" width="720" src="https://cdn.mos.cms.futurecdn.net/KGK4GbsvkGYrprpwck9RSM-1024-80.jpg">
												</p>

												<p>
													<em><span>I want all the monsters (even the Low Rank ones) to be just as scary to fight in-game as they are portrayed in the story cutscenes. </span></em>
												</p>

												<p>
													<em><span itemprop="copyrightHolder">(Image credit: Windows Central | Alex Cope)</span></em>
												</p>

												<p>

												</p>

												<p>
													However, I would much rather see this sort of balance tweaking be applied to <a data-analytics-id="inline-link" data-before-rewrite-localise="https://www.windowscentral.com/gaming/heres-every-monster-hunter-wilds-monster-revealed-thus-far-to-hunt-on-xbox-and-pc" href="https://www.windowscentral.com/gaming/heres-every-monster-hunter-wilds-monster-revealed-thus-far-to-hunt-on-xbox-and-pc" rel="external nofollow" target="_blank">all of Monster Hunter Wilds' monsters</a> (both Low Rank and High Rank), not just the Tempered Monsters.
												</p>

												<p>

												</p>

												<p>
													That way, the Low Rank Story campaign won't feel like a cakewalk tutorial for endgame content anymore as you will be constantly challenged throughout the whole game, be forced to utilize the combat mechanics and armor sets to their fullest potential, and be rewarded with the immense satisfaction of overcoming the odds like the in older games.
												</p>

												<p>

												</p>

												<p>
													Capcom has said that it is planning to make more balance changes in future updates. So hopefully my wishes for Monster Hunter Wilds to be a more challenging game from beginning to end will eventually come to pass, but we'll have to wait to find out.
												</p>

												<p>

												</p>

												<p>
													In the meantime, we'll have Akuma teaching us how to beat monsters with only our fists to busy when the May Update launches for Monster Hunter Wilds on May 28, 2025, for <a data-analytics-id="inline-link" data-before-rewrite-localise="https://www.windowscentral.com/tag/xbox-series-x" href="https://www.windowscentral.com/tag/xbox-series-x" rel="external nofollow" target="_blank">Xbox Series X</a>|<a data-analytics-id="inline-link" data-before-rewrite-localise="https://www.windowscentral.com/tag/xbox-series-s" href="https://www.windowscentral.com/tag/xbox-series-s" rel="external nofollow" target="_blank">S</a>, <a data-analytics-id="inline-link" data-before-rewrite-localise="https://www.windowscentral.com/tag/playstation-5" href="https://www.windowscentral.com/tag/playstation-5" rel="external nofollow" target="_blank">PlayStation 5</a>, and PC via <a data-analytics-id="inline-link" data-before-rewrite-localise="https://www.windowscentral.com/gaming/steam" data-before-rewrite-redirect="https://www.windowscentral.com/tag/steam" href="https://www.windowscentral.com/gaming/steam" rel="external nofollow" target="_blank">Steam</a>.

	Some hidden stuff for Windows 11 was also discovered this week. During a Build session, Microsoft showcased how users can transfer their workflow from a mobile device and continue where they left off on Windows 11. Nothing has been publicly announced, though. Earlier this month, we shared the first part of our review of AMD's new RX 9070. It was about the gaming performance of the GPU, and we gave it <a automate_uuid="575c47a8-9b1f-482e-a84e-7790b3250aea" href="https://www.neowin.net/reviews/amd-rx-9070-review-vs-rtx-5070-4070-and-rx-9070-xt-7800-xt--just-good-enough/" rel="external nofollow">a 7.5 out of 10</a>. The 9070 XT, in contrast, received a full <a automate_uuid="87d9a4f3-c2c4-4772-ab9c-016323a93012" href="https://www.neowin.net/reviews/amd-finally-gets-it-just-right-rx-9070-xt-benchmarked-vs-7800xt--nvidia-rtx-4070/" rel="external nofollow">10 out of 10</a>.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	The main reason for the lower score on the non-XT was the relatively high price and thus the poorer value it offered compared to the XT. We thought the price was much closer to the XT than it needed to be.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	While the RX 9070 proved to be more power efficient than the XT, for a desktop gaming graphics card, value and performance typically take the front seat compared to something like power efficiency.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	However, that may not be the case in terms of productivity which also takes into account things like power savings. Thus, similar to the one we did for the XT model, we are doing a dedicated productivity review for the RX 9070 as well where we compare to against the 9070 XT, 7800 XT, as well as Nvidia's 5070 and 4070.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	AI performance is a very important metric in today's world and AMD also promised big improvements thanks to its <a automate_uuid="d7bbf589-5ab2-4f71-92e4-267e2a1ecb86" href="https://www.neowin.net/news/amd-details-windows-11-ai-performance-gains-on-rx-9070-xt-vs-7900/" rel="external nofollow">underlying architectural improvements</a>. We already had a taste of that with the XT model so now it's time to see how good the non-XT does here.

<p>
	First up, we have Geekbench AI running on ONNX.
</p>

<figure class="image image--expandable">
	<img alt="amd rx 9070 and rtx 5070 performance benchmark review by Neowin" class="ipsImage" height="405" width="720" src="https://cdn.neowin.com/news/images/uploaded/2025/05/1748097615_amd_9070_nvidia_5070_neowin_review_geekbench_ai.webp">
</figure>

<p>
	The RTX 5070 gets beaten by both the 9070 XT and 9070 in quantized and single precision (FP32) performance. Similarly, the 4070 gets close to the 9070 in half-precision (FP16) performance, but the latter is an enormous 30% faster in quantized score and nearly 12.2% better in single precision (FP32).
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	The reason for this beatdown is the amount of memory available to each card. The Nvidia GPUs have 12GB each and thus only do better in the FP16 precision tests since the other ones are more VRAM-intensive.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	Next up, we move to UL Procyon suite starting with the Image generation benchmark.
</p>

<figure class="image image--expandable">
	<img alt="amd rx 9070 and rtx 5070 performance benchmark review by Neowin" class="ipsImage" height="405" width="720" src="https://cdn.neowin.com/news/images/uploaded/2025/05/1748097627_amd_9070_nvidia_5070_neowin_review_procyon_img_gen.webp">
</figure>

<p>
	We chose the Stable Diffusion XL FP16 test since this is the most intense workload available on Procyon suite. Similar to what we saw on Geekbench AI, the Nvidia GPUs to relatively better here as it is FP16 or half precision which means the used VRAM is lower.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	So this is something to keep in mind again, if you wish to float32 AI workloads, it is likely that graphics cards with greater than 12 GB buffers would emerge as victors.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	There is still a big improvement on the RX 9070 compared to the 7800 XT as we see a ~54% gain. This boost is due to improvements to the core architecture itself as VRAM capacities of both cards are the same at 16 Gigs.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	Following image generation, we move to the text generation benchmark.
</p>

<p class="img-center">
	<img alt="amd rx 9070 and rtx 5070 performance benchmark review by Neowin" class="ipsImage" height="596" width="720" src="https://cdn.neowin.com/news/images/uploaded/2025/05/1748097633_amd_9070_nvidia_5070_neowin_review_procyon_text_gen.webp">
</p>

<p>
	In this workload, we see the least impressive performance of the 9070 in terms of how much it improves over the 7800 XT. The former is up to ~7.25% faster here. The 9070 is also not as well-performing as the Nvidia 4070 in Phi and Mistral models, although it does do better in both the Llama tests.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	Another odd result stood out here where the 5070 underperformed all the cards including the 7800 XT in Llama 2. We ran each test three times and considered the best score and so we are not exactly sure what happened here.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	Wrapping up AI testing, we measured OpenCL throughput in Geekbench compute benchmark.
</p>

<figure class="image image--expandable">
	<img alt="amd rx 9070 and rtx 5070 performance benchmark review by Neowin" class="ipsImage" height="410" width="720" src="https://cdn.neowin.com/news/images/uploaded/2025/05/1748097621_amd_9070_nvidia_5070_neowin_review_geekbench_ocl.webp">
</figure>

<p>
	The RX 9070 did not fare well here at all even falling behind the 7800 XT and it is significantly slower than the three other cards. Interestingly, even the RTX 5070 could not beat the 4070 on OpenCL so perhaps this suggests that OpenCL optimization has not been a priority for either AMD or Nvidia this time. It could also be an issue with Geekbench itself.
</p>

<figure class="image image--expandable">
	<img alt="amd rx 9070 made by Sapphire" class="ipsImage" height="539" width="720" src="https://cdn.neowin.com/news/images/uploaded/2025/05/1746266207_20250424_101136.jpg">
</figure>

<h3>
	Conclusion
</h3>

<p>
	We reach the end of our productivity performance review of the 9070 and we have to say we are fairly impressed but there is also a slight bit of disappointment. It is clear that the 9070 as well as the 9070 XT really shine when inferencing precision is higher, and that is due to the higher memory buffers they possess compared to the Nvidia 5070. But on FP16, the Nvidia cards pull ahead.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	Still RNDA 4, including the RX 9070, see big boost over RDNA 3 (7800 XT). As we noted in the image generation benchmark, which is an intense load, there is over a 50% gain.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	So what do we make of the RX 9070 as a productivity hardware? We think it's a good card. If someone was looking for a GPU around $550 that can do both gaming and crunch through some AI tasks this is a good card to pick up especially if you are dealing with single precision situations or some other VRAM-intense tasks. And we already know it is efficient so there's that too.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	For those however looking for a GPU that can deal with more, AMD recently unveiled the <a automate_uuid="685106a0-f4b3-45e0-b256-0345cbbfe7c7" href="https://www.neowin.net/news/amd-r9700-with-32-gb-vram-claims-to-obliterate-nvidia-rtx-5080-in-windows-11-ai-performance/" rel="external nofollow">Radeon AI PRO R9700</a> which is essentially a 32 GB refresh of the 9070 XT with some additional workstation-based optimizations.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	Considering everything, we rate AMD's RX 9070 a 9 out of 10 for its AI performance. Price is less of a factor for those looking at productivity cases compared to ones considering the <a automate_uuid="2ae83a1a-0d49-407a-ba36-735404c2fd5d" href="https://www.neowin.net/reviews/amd-rx-9070-review-vs-rtx-5070-4070-and-rx-9070-xt-7800-xt--just-good-enough/" rel="external nofollow">GPU for gaming</a>, and as such, we felt it did quite decent overall and can be especially handy if you need more than 12 GB.

	DOOM: The Dark Ages has received 'difficulty' balance changes that have made the demons of Hell even more dangerous than ever.

</p>

<p>

<p>
	According to DOOM's official website <a data-analytics-id="inline-link" data-hl-processed="none" data-url="https://slayersclub.bethesda.net/en-EU/article/active-tunables" href="https://slayersclub.bethesda.net/en-EU/article/active-tunables" referrerpolicy="no-referrer-when-downgrade" target="_blank" rel="external nofollow">Slayer's Club</a>, these balance adjustments are focused on making the game harder, as players have been leaving feedback saying it felt too easy even on Nightmare Mode.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	As a result, enemies now hit harder, health and armor item pick-ups drop less often, and certain enemies punish you more severely for mistiming the parry mechanic.

	The recent launch of the RTX 5060 was quite controversial, with independent media accusing the company of "rug pulling" its new budget graphics card by launching it during Computex and <a automate_uuid="5dbf4731-c539-419d-946b-9232761bca82" href="https://www.neowin.net/news/nvidia-reportedly-launches-rtx-5060-on-may-19/" rel="external nofollow">withholding the review driver</a>. Add to that user discontent about 8GB of video memory (<a automate_uuid="e5a9cd22-ea25-42c3-8eb9-8fd3eb36b5f3" href="https://www.neowin.net/news/amd-defends-8gb-vram-on-1080p-gpus-explains-how-its-actually-more-than-enough/" rel="external nofollow">AMD has a few words about that</a>) and multi-frame generation, <a automate_uuid="ecb1e36e-4282-4f13-a813-a5114c70467b" href="https://www.neowin.net/news/early-rtx-5060-store-listings-show-depressing-prices-of-the-upcoming-gpu-mid-ranger/" rel="external nofollow">high prices</a>, and overall, quite a disastrous state of the recent driver releases. <em>Not the way it's meant to be played...</em>
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	Now, we have yet another issue with the RTX 5060 graphics card. This time, Nvidia confirmed compatibility issues with certain motherboards, which cause black screens on reboot. The company says this happens with "legacy motherboards," and a firmware update is required to resolve the problem. Nvidia published a support page on its official website with detailed steps to perform if your system experiences black screens during reboots.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	Nvidia suggests doing one of the following steps to mitigate the issue:
</p>

<p>

</p>

<ul>
	<li>
		Shut down your computer before turning it on.
	</li>
	<li>
		Update your motherboard's BIOS to the latest version.
	</li>
	<li>
		Make sure the motherboard runs in UEFI mode, not Legacy / CSM. If your motherboard does not support UEFI, Nvidia recommends contacting your GPU's customer support, and it will provide the necessary VBIOS update for legacy motherboards.
	</li>
	<li>
		Boot using integrated graphics or another GPU.
	</li>
</ul>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	After booting to the desktop, you can download the Nvidia GPU UEFI Firmware Update Tool and get your RTX 5060 to the latest firmware with the necessary fixes. This applies to the RTX 5060 and the RTX 5060 Ti. Nvidia adds that the firmware update is only required on systems that exhibit black screen issues on reboots. There is no need to update GPU firmware if your system restarts without issues.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	You can find all the details and links to the firmware update tool <a automate_uuid="2392f265-4863-42f4-8304-45f53dce0bc7" href="https://nvidia.custhelp.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/5665?s=03" rel="external nofollow">in a post on the official Nvidia support website</a>.

	Elsewhere on social media, people had been complaining about issues with the network for a couple of days — one of the <a href="https://www.reddit.com/r/Twitter/comments/1ksz1t1/twitterx_down_for_anyone_else/" rel="external nofollow">top posts</a> on the r/Twitter Reddit community is a screenshot of an error message on the X login screen, with many replies complaining about login issues. The X developer platform site’s <a href="https://docs.x.com/incidents" rel="external nofollow">incident history log</a> shows that a sitewide outage started Thursday and lasted roughly a day. At the moment, there’s still an error message on the <a href="https://docs.x.com/status" rel="external nofollow">platform status page</a> that reads, “Login with X (OAuth) and other X platform login flows are experiencing degraded performance.”
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	The issue comes after a fire reportedly broke out in an Oregon data center owned by X on Thursday morning. <a href="https://www.wired.com/story/elon-musk-x-datacenter-fire/" rel="external nofollow"><em>Wired</em> writes</a> that multiple unnamed sources told it that the fire, which forced “an extended response from emergency crews,” involved batteries in one of the data center’s rooms. Following reports of the fire, there were complaints that X was down, but the outage then seemed comparatively small.

	At Computex this year, AMD debuted its Radeon RX 9060 XT graphics card for 1080p gaming. The SKU landed in two variations, the <a automate_uuid="97219d1b-0bba-4d09-8ff2-53ba1794fb9f" href="https://www.neowin.net/news/amd-debuts-9060-xt-with-up-to-16-gb-vram-even-for-1080p-gaming/" rel="external nofollow">$349 16GB model and the $299 8GB model</a>. Thus, AMD is looking to charge a 16.7% premium for the 16 Gig model for its double buffer.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	Many users online however are not happy about the 8GB variant and the backlash is similar to what Nvidia has been facing for its GPUs for the lack of VRAM on them, though rumor has it that the alleged upcoming <a automate_uuid="0d852dc2-9f76-4794-adcf-dd72fa6c1567" href="https://www.neowin.net/news/nvidia-may-finally-kill-8gb-vram-as-rumored-specs-of-rtx-5080-super-5070-super-surface/" rel="external nofollow">SUPER series from GeForce</a> would raise the memory capacities.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	Unlike Nvidia, though, which only offers its <a automate_uuid="3482172a-30c1-45b2-bea5-a4d3114a47a2" href="https://www.neowin.net/news/nvidia-57652-driver-adds-support-rtx-5060-also-brings-more-bug-fixes/" rel="external nofollow">RTX 5060 in a single 8GB </a><a automate_uuid="e4e62762-8a50-40c3-afe1-22e4447156b1" href="https://www.neowin.net/news/nvidia-57652-driver-adds-support-rtx-5060-also-brings-more-bug-fixes/" rel="external nofollow">variant</a>, AMD is offering two forms of it so that users can choose what they want.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	AMD's Frank Azor who is the Chief Architect of Gaming Solutions and Gaming Marketing at the company defended Radeon's decision to build two separate variants of the 9060 XT. He explained how 8 Gig GPUs still have a big market appeal, pointing out that many users worldwide are into 1080p eSports competitive gaming that does not require a lot of VRAM.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	This is probably true considering plenty of gamers play such esports titles on reduced graphics settings to achieve higher framerates and lower latencies.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	Others also pointed out the price point of the 8GB card suggesting that $299 was too expensive for an 8GB GPU. We have to say we are on the fence on this one since at face value, such a comment indeed makes sense. However, we don't have review numbers for the 9060 XT yet.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	According to AMD's own slides, the company expects the 9060 XT 16 GB to be a bit faster than the <a automate_uuid="1d212bbc-a0ee-4a90-9327-4dc97b237aa1" href="https://www.neowin.net/news/nvidia-rtx-5060-ti-and-5060-are-now-official-starting-at-just-299/" rel="external nofollow">8GB 5060 Ti variant</a>. The latter has an MSRP of $379.

	Starfield just got a colossal new DLC-sized mod and a huge modding feature. Read on for patch notes.
</h3>

<p>
	The May Update for <a data-analytics-id="inline-link" data-before-rewrite-localise="https://www.windowscentral.com/tag/starfield" href="https://www.windowscentral.com/tag/starfield" target="_blank" rel="external nofollow">Starfield</a> — <a data-analytics-id="inline-link" data-before-rewrite-localise="https://www.windowscentral.com/gaming/xbox/starfield-patch-steam-beta-may-2025" href="https://www.windowscentral.com/gaming/xbox/starfield-patch-steam-beta-may-2025" target="_blank" rel="external nofollow">first revealed earlier this month</a> with a Steam Beta release for preliminary testing — has now been fully released for Bethesda's 2023 space exploration RPG, and is available to download now across the game's Xbox Series X|S and Windows PC (Steam, Xbox app) platforms. And while it's a small patch overall, it has added one huge piece of content that's making me reinstall the title.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	That addition is Watchtower, a massive DLC-sized mod release from Kinggath Creations — a group of modders (led by community member kinggath himself) that's known for making some of the <a data-analytics-id="inline-link" data-before-rewrite-localise="https://www.windowscentral.com/best-xbox-fallout-4-mods" href="https://www.windowscentral.com/best-xbox-fallout-4-mods" target="_blank" rel="external nofollow">best Fallout 4 mods</a> like Sim Settlements, and also came out with the ambitious East Empire Expansion project for <a data-analytics-id="inline-link" data-before-rewrite-localise="https://www.windowscentral.com/tag/skyrim" href="https://www.windowscentral.com/tag/skyrim" target="_blank" rel="external nofollow">Skyrim</a> as well. The mod is one of Bethesda's developer-curated "Creations" mods, and costs 1,000 Starfield Creation credits ($10 worth). You'll find it in the in-game Creations Store menu.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	Paid mods have been a contentious topic ever since Bethesda first brought them to Skyrim and <a data-analytics-id="inline-link" data-before-rewrite-localise="https://www.windowscentral.com/tag/fallout-4" href="https://www.windowscentral.com/tag/fallout-4" target="_blank" rel="external nofollow">Fallout 4</a> nearly a decade ago, but at a glance, Watchtower looks like it's absolutely worth its price of admission. If you're a Starfield player looking for another adventure to have in the Settled Systems, it's definitely worth a look.
</p>

	</div>
</div>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	Watchtower is centered around a militant faction of the same name that aggressively attacks anything and anyone they deem a threat to humanity — and for an unknown reason, <em>you're</em> now in their crosshairs. Fittingly for their namesake, Watchtower forces maintain a large fleet of starships that they use to overwhelm opposition encountered in planetary orbit while simultaneously raining down orbital strikes to support their troops on the ground.
</p>

<p>

</p>

	In its fully voice-acted story, you'll meet a fellow adventurer also being hunted by Watchtower, and together with them and their allies, you'll begin to develop a resistance to the growing threat. As the questline progresses, you'll build up a space station and a fleet of your own to take the fight to the extremists, going through the process of crewing and commanding it as you target Watchtower outposts across the stars. While planetside, you'll even be able to call in orbital support <a data-analytics-id="inline-link" data-before-rewrite-localise="https://www.windowscentral.com/tag/helldivers-2" href="https://www.windowscentral.com/tag/helldivers-2" target="_blank" rel="external nofollow">Helldivers 2</a>-style as the enemy does.

			Frankly, I'm not even the biggest fan of Starfield's base experience myself, but even I've been convinced to reinstall and spend some unused Creation Credits on Watchtower because of how awesome it sounds. With that said, it's not the <em>only </em>highlight of the new update worth mentioning.

					Most of the patch notes just mention bugfixes and minor gameplay tweaks, but there are some welcome new features, too. The biggest is a change that allows modders to upload Creations up to 2GB in size; this isn't as big of a deal on PC where you could manually install large graphical overhaul projects yourself, but it's <em>huge</em> for Xbox players who haven't been able to use mods like this until now.
				</p>

				<p>

				</p>

				<p>
					On top of that, Very Low display settings have been added on PC "to improve performance on some devices," which will be extremely useful for people playing on gaming handhelds like the <a data-analytics-id="inline-link" data-before-rewrite-localise="https://www.windowscentral.com/tag/steam-deck" href="https://www.windowscentral.com/tag/steam-deck" target="_blank" rel="external nofollow">Steam Deck</a>. </p>

<p>
	In a surprise announcement, Microsoft today revealed the Retro Classics app, a brand-new resource for Game Pass members that features dozens of classic titles. As is evident by its name, the app specializes in retro classics, and the focus is on Activision-published games that landed back in the 80s and 90s.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	Arriving as a partnership between Xbox and Antstream Arcade, the app is available to all Game Pass subscribers. Considering the age of the games, a wide variety of consoles are listed when sorting, including the original PlayStation. It seems more games are planned for the app too.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	The games have gamepad and keyboard controls, instructions on how to play through them, in-game daily challenges, and even achievements.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	Here's everything included in the launch version of Retro Classics:

	<a href="https://www.neowin.net/news/amd-debuts-9060-xt-with-up-to-16-gb-vram-even-for-1080p-gaming/" rel="external nofollow">Alongside the Radeon RX 9060 XT</a>, which is meant for 1080p gaming, AMD has also announced its new Radeon AI PRO R9700, a new workstation GPU meant to take on AI workloads. The company understands that there is a growing demand for high-performance GPUs that can chew through AI tasks in local setups.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	In fact, other companies are aware of this too, as Dell recently debuted its "most powerful laptop" in the form of the <a href="https://www.neowin.net/news/dell-pro-max-plus-is-its-most-powerful-laptop-to-help-you-get-cloud-ai-performance-at-home/" rel="external nofollow">Dell Pro Max Plus</a> which will come with a dedicated discrete Qualcomm NPU.

<p>
	AMD's R9700 is basically identical to the RX 9070 XT in terms of core specs and hence packs 64 CUs (compute units) and 128 AI accelerators (2nd Gen). Where the AI PRO R9700 trumps the 9070 XT is in the available VRAM buffer. AI tasks are known to be highly memory dependent, and hence the increased 32 GB capacity of the R9700 is meant to help with that. AMD is sticking with the same memory interface and thus the bandwidth should be similar to the 9070 XT's.

<p>
	If you are wondering about how much the VRAM can help, AMD claims that its new AI RPO GPU can obliterate Nvidia's RTX 5080 thanks to its double buffer. Team Red says that when it comes to dealing with larger AI models, the R9700 can be up to nearly 500% better than its Team Green counterpart. Their performance comparisons were done on Windows 11 PRO 24H2.

	And when four R9700 PRO GPUs join forces, AMD promises even greater potency thanks to 128 GB of total combined VRAM:

<p>
	Aside from comparisons with Nvidia's 5080, AMD also compared the R9700 with <a href="https://www.neowin.net/news/amd-unveils-the-radeon-pro-w7000-series-workstation-graphics-cards/" rel="external nofollow">last gen W7800</a>. In this case, VRAM is not the winning factor for the new card, but the core performance itself. The company promises up to twice the performance in certain situations.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	We have already looked at the AI performance of the 9070 XT vs 7800 XT and the Nvidia 4070, so we can attest that in <a href="https://www.neowin.net/reviews/amd-rx-9070-xt-ai-performance-review-vs-7800-xt--nvidia-rtx-4070/#:~:text=it%20comes%20out-,83%25%20faster,-and%20nearly%20catches" rel="external nofollow">some situations such claims are indeed valid</a>.

<p>
	As far as pricing is concerned, AMD did not reveal that, but seeing how the card has been put up against the RTX 5080, the new AI PRO R9700 may have a similar SEP (suggested retail price). The availability of the GPU is slated for July this year.

	New midrange RDNA 4 GPUs launch starting on June 5, just weeks after RTX 5060.
</h3>

<p>
	<a href="https://arstechnica.com/gadgets/2025/03/amd-radeon-rx-9070-and-9070-xt-review-rdna-4-fixes-a-lot-of-amds-problems/" rel="external nofollow">AMD's Radeon RX 9070 XT and RX 9070</a> were fairly well received when they were released in March, ably competing with Nvidia's <a href="https://arstechnica.com/gadgets/2025/03/nvidia-geforce-rtx-5070-review-no-its-not-4090-performance-at-549/" rel="external nofollow">RTX 5070</a> and <a href="https://arstechnica.com/gadgets/2025/02/nvidia-geforce-rtx-5070-ti-review-an-rtx-4080-for-749-at-least-in-theory/" rel="external nofollow">RTX 5070 Ti</a> for the same or a little less money. We were impressed by the cards' performance and power efficiency, even if they still have some of the same caveats as older Radeon cards (lack of DLSS upscaling and lower relative ray-tracing performance being two).
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	Today AMD is formally expanding its family of RDNA 4 graphics cards with the Radeon RX 9060 XT, a GPU that will go up against Nvidia's RTX 5060 and RTX 5060 Ti GPUs. These GPUs have just half the compute units of the RX 9070 XT, but at $299 and $349 for 8GB and 16GB configurations, they ought to be decent options for 1080p or entry-level 1440p gaming PCs (with the eternal "if you can find them" caveat that comes with buying a GPU in 2025).
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	AMD says the new GPUs will be available starting on June 5th from the typical range of partners—AMD released renders of a reference GPU design, but sometimes these are starting points that manufacturers can take or leave, rather than products AMD intends to manufacture and sell itself.

<p>

</p>

<p>
	Per usual, AMD has priced the cards competitively with Nvidia's offerings, but not so aggressively as to totally undercut the GeForce cards. The 8GB variant of the card is priced against Nvidia's $299 RTX 5060, where the 16GB version attempts to undercut the $429 RTX 5060 Ti. Adding more RAM won't improve performance across the board in all games, but it ought to improve things disproportionately at 1440p, and it seems like AAA games are bumping up their RAM requirements all the time.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	AMD didn't provide much by way of performance comparisons, but it's promising that the cards have the same number of compute units as AMD's last-generation RX 7600 series. AMD says that RDNA 4 compute units are much faster than those used for RDNA 3, particularly in games with ray-tracing effects enabled. This helped make the Radeon RX 9070 cards generally as fast or faster than the RX 7900 XTX and 7900 XT series, despite having around two-thirds as many compute units. Sticking with 32 CUs for the 9060 series isn't exciting on paper, but we should still see a respectable generation-over-generation performance bump. The RX 7600 series, by contrast, provided<a href="https://arstechnica.com/gadgets/2023/05/review-amds-269-rx-7600-is-a-good-1080p-card-but-the-rtx-4060-looms/" rel="external nofollow"> a pretty modest performance improvement</a> compared to 2022's Radeon RX 6650 XT.

<p>
	AMD says that the cards' total board power—the amount of power the entire graphics card, including the GPU itself, RAM, and other components—starts at 150 W for the 8GB card and 160 W for the 16GB card, with a maximum TBP of 182 W. That's a shade higher than but generally comparable to the RTX 5060 and 5060 Ti, and (depending on where actual performance ends up) quite a bit more efficient than the RX 7600 series. This partly comes down to a more efficient 4nm TSMC manufacturing process, a substantial upgrade from the 6nm process used for the 7600 series.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	It's unusual for a GPU maker to define a TBP range—more commonly we're just given a single default value. But this is in line with new settings we observed in our RX 9070 review; AMD officially supports a range of different user-selectable TBP numbers in its Catalyst driver package, and some GPU makers were shipping cards that used higher TBPs by default.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	Higher power limits can increase performance, though usually the performance increase is disproportionately small compared to the increase in power draw. These power limits should also generally mean that most 9060 XTs can be powered with a single 8-pin power connector, rather than using multiple connectors or the 12-pin 12VHPWR/12V-2x6 connector.

	Today at Computex 2025, AMD has introduced the Threadripper 9000 Series, a new lineup of processors designed for professional workstations and high-performance desktop systems, typically called HEDT or high-end desktops. <a href="https://www.neowin.net/news/amd-launches-ryzen-9950x-9900x-9700x-9600x-powered-by-massive-16-ipc-boosted-zen-5/" rel="external nofollow">Zen 5 landed</a> on the mainstream desktop lineup back in June 2024, and now, nearly a year later, the company is bringing it to HEDT as well.

<p>
	At the top of the lineup, the AMD Ryzen Threadripper PRO 9995WX offers 96 cores and 192 threads, promising outstanding computing power for demanding workloads in architecture, engineering, media production, and AI applications. AMD highlights its ability to handle large-scale processing tasks with efficiency with the 9000 WX series. The WX series is essentially the best of the best.

<p>
	Obviously, to feed these many cores you need a lot of memory (including cache), bandwidth and power. The new Ryzen Threadripper 9000WX series comes with up to 384 MB of L3 cache, 409.6 GB/s of bandwidth, and has a TDP of 350 watt. They also feature up to 128 PCIe 5.0 lanes for I/O.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	The 350-watt power envelope is uniform across all the WX SKUs starting from the 96 core 9995WX at the top down to the 12 core 9945WX at the bottom. Between these two, we have the 16 core 9955WX, the 24 core 9965WX, 32 core 9975WX, and the 64 core 9985WX.

	Using this higher available power headroom, the lower core count Threadripper 9000WX parts boast much higher base clocks. For example, the 96 core 9995WX has a 2.5 GHz base clock while on the 12 core 9945WX sports a 4.7 GHz base clock.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	All AMD Ryzen Threadripper PRO 9000 WX-Series processors include AMD PRO Technologies, which promise to offer security features, remote management capabilities, and platform stability for enterprise use. These technologies promise to help IT teams optimize their infrastructure while maintaining productivity and system security.

<p>
	Meanwhile, for PC enthusiasts and power users as well as creators, we have the AMD Ryzen Threadripper 9000 series. This is headlined by the 9980X that offers 64 cores and 128 threads. Spec-wise, the 9980X is essentially identical to the 9985WX.

	FLP02 has a throwback facade but can fit a thoroughly modern PC inside.
</h3>

<p>
	SilverStone's first '80s throwback PC case started life as <a href="https://arstechnica.com/gadgets/2024/11/big-beige-80s-pc-case-started-out-as-a-joke-but-its-becoming-real-in-japan/" rel="external nofollow">an April Fools' joke</a>, but the success of<a href="https://www.silverstonetek.com/en/product/info/computer-chassis/flp01/" rel="external nofollow"> the FLP01</a> was apparently serious enough to merit a follow-up. The company brought another beige case to the Computex trade show this week, the vertically oriented FLP02 (<a href="https://www.tomshardware.com/pc-components/pc-cases/silverstone-reveals-the-flp02-late-80s-style-tower-pc-case-proudly-beige-but-thoroughly-modern-inside" rel="external nofollow">via Tom's Hardware</a>).
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	If the original horizontally oriented FLP01 case called to mind <a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Compaq_Deskpro_386#/media/File:DeskPro_386S.jpg" rel="external nofollow">a 386-era Compaq Deskpro</a>, the FLP02 is a dead ringer for the kind of case you might have gotten for a generic 486 or early Pentium-era PC. That extends to having <a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Turbo_button" rel="external nofollow">a Turbo button</a> built into the front—on vintage PCs, this button could actually determine how fast the processor was allowed to run, though here, it's actually a fan speed control instead. A lock on the front also locks the power switch in place to keep it from being flipped off accidentally, something else real vintage PCs actually did.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	Despite its retro facade, the FLP02 is capable of fitting in even higher-end modern PC parts than the original FLP01. Front USB-A and USB-C ports are hidden behind a magnetic door on the front of the case, and its faux-5.25-inch floppy drives are just covers for drive bays that you could use for an optical drive or extra front I/O.

			</div>
		</div>
	</figcaption>
</figure>

<p>
	On the inside, the case can fit full-size ATX motherboards and up to a 360 mm radiator for CPU cooling, and <span style="box-sizing: border-box; margin: 0px; padding: 0px;">modern high-end GPUs like the <a href="https://arstechnica.com/gadgets/2025/01/review-nvidias-geforce-rtx-5090-is-the-first-gpu-that-can-beat-the-rtx-4090/" rel="external nofollow" target="_blank">GeForce RTX 5090</a> or <a href="https://arstechnica.com/gadgets/2025/01/nvidia-geforce-rtx-5080-review-more-like-a-4080-super-super/" rel="external nofollow" target="_blank">5080</a> should be able to fit </span>inside.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	SilverStone says the FLP02 will ship in Q3 or Q4 of this year and that US buyers should be able to get it for $220. You can, of course, buy a modern high-end PC case for much less money. But if this kind of nostalgia-bait didn't move merchandise, companies wouldn't keep indulging in it.

<p>
	Google just wrapped up its big keynote at I/O 2025. As expected, it was full of AI-related announcements, ranging from updates across Google’s image and video generation models to new features in Search and Gmail.
</p>

<p>
	But there were some surprises, too, like a new AI filmmaking app and an update to Project Starline. If you didn’t catch the event live, you can check out everything you missed in the roundup below.

	Google has announced that it’s rolling out AI Mode, a new tab that lets you search the web using the company’s Gemini AI chatbot, to all users in the US starting this week.
</p>

<p>
	Google will test new features in AI Mode this summer, such as deep search and a way to generate charts for finance and sports queries. It’s also rolling out the ability to shop in AI Mode in the “coming months.”

	Gmail’s smart reply feature, which uses AI to suggest replies to your emails, will now use information from your inbox and Google Drive to prewrite responses that sound more like you. The feature will also take your recipient’s tone into account, allowing it to suggest more formal responses in a conversation with your boss, for example.

	Gmail’s upgraded smart replies will be available in English on the web, iOS, and Android when it launches through Google Labs in July.

	Google is testing a new feature that lets you upload a full-length photo of yourself to see how shirts, pants, dresses, or skirts might look on you. It uses an AI model that “understands the human body and nuances of clothing.”

<p>
	Google will also soon let you shop in AI Mode, as well as use an “agentic checkout” feature that can purchase products on your behalf.

	If Chrome detects that your password’s been compromised, Google says the browser will soon be able to “generate a strong replacement” and automatically update it on supported websites.
