	Last week, the tech industry's love affair with chatbot AI programs like ChatGPT went into overdrive as Microsoft released <a href="https://www.neowin.net/news/the-new-microsoft-bing-had-over-one-million-people-sign-up-for-its-waitlist-in-48-hours/" rel="external nofollow">the new Bing chatbot</a>, and Google <a href="https://www.neowin.net/news/google-reveals-its-chatgpt-competitor-bard/" rel="external nofollow">announced its competitor, Bard</a>. However, that excitement soon got a reality check, as both Bard and the new Bing were shown as being error prone and also <a href="https://www.neowin.net/news/bing-users-are-making-the-chatbot-say-odd-things-while-exposing-its-errors/" rel="external nofollow">generating some very strange responses</a>.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	Even John Hennessy, the current chairman of Google's parent company Alphabet, thinks these new chatbots are a ways away from becoming as useful as the hype train claim they could be. <a href="https://www.cnbc.com/2023/02/13/alphabet-chairman-john-hennessy-google-bard-hesitation.html" rel="external nofollow">CNBC</a> reports that, during a summit held by Celesta Capital this week, Hennessy stated:
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p style="margin-left: 40px;">
	I think these models are still in the early days — figuring out how to bring them into a product stream and do it in a way that’s sensitive to correctness, as well as issues like toxicity.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	He added that it could take one or two years before chatbots like Bard, the new Bing, and ChatGPT truly become useful to the general public. Having said that, he still likes the overall technology, stating:
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p style="margin-left: 40px;">
	I’m impressed with two things — first of all the quality of the natural language ability both to interpret a query but also to respond to something — the generative function. I’m impressed that it manages to, at least at a fairly superficial level, get a lot of things right.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	Many Google employees <a href="https://www.neowin.net/news/google-employees-reportedly-roast-the-companys-rushed-launch-of-bard/" rel="external nofollow">reportedly were not happy</a> with the brief demo the company gave for Bard last week. While Hennessy would not comment on the response Bard has received since its announcement, he did hint that the company didn't think it was ready for prime time:
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p style="margin-left: 40px;">
	I think Google was hesitant to productize this because it didn’t think it was really ready for a product yet, but, I think, as a demonstration vehicle, it’s a great piece of technology
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	Google has yet to announce any concrete plans to release a public version of Bard, preferring to test the chatbot among its employees internally at first.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>

The Communities app for Outlook, as well as the Yammer mobile app for iOS and Android will receive an update to complete the branding change, and there will be no other changes to the features and capabilities of the platform.

<p>
	Microsoft has also announced that it will be developing new capabilities for the platform, which were first announced in <a href="https://www.neowin.net/news/viva-suite-customers-gain-expert-knowledge-management-with-new-answers-feature/" rel="external nofollow">September 2022</a>.

<p>
	The first of these features is the Leadership Corner, which provides an area of the platform for leaders to connect with their employees and showcase resource groups and improve workplace culture. It will also introduce a new event style called Ask Me Anything (AMA) events, which work similarly to the Reddit threads it takes its namesake from, including similar features such as upvoting and Q&amp;A.

	Twilio, a customer communication and marketing software company, said yesterday that it will reduce its global workforce by about 17%.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	This news comes just a few months after the company <a href="https://www.neowin.net/news/personalized-communications-company-twilio-is-the-latest-firm-to-cut-employees/" rel="external nofollow">laid off 11% of its workforce</a>. At the time, Twilio CEO Jeff Lawson said that the company had been growing too quickly over the last few years, and they want to scale back operations so it can better focus on core products and services.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	Per Twilio's latest earnings report, the company had 8,992 employees as of September 30, 2022. It then let go of about 816 people during its first round of layoffs. With the company now cutting 17% of its workforce, means that about 1,400 people will be given pink slips. Once Twilio proceeds with its second wave of layoffs, the company will have bidden goodbye to more than 2,000 people.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	"We have to spend less, streamline, and become more efficient," Lawson wrote in an <a href="https://www.twilio.com/blog/restructuring-twilio" rel="external nofollow">email sent to employees Monday</a>. "To do that, we’re forming two business units: Twilio Communications and Twilio Data &amp; Applications." The former will be led by Elena Donio while the latter will be spearheaded by Khozema Shipchandler. Both divisions will have its own sales, R&amp;D and admin resources.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	Moreover, Lawson said that the communications division had especially become "too big." "It is painful to part ways with so many talented people – but it's necessary to get our two businesses into the right shape to succeed," he stated.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p style="margin-left: 40px;">
	"I'm sure you're wondering why we're making additional cuts to the team after the September layoffs. At that time, we sought to streamline the company as it was then structured. Today's news, however, is more driven by the need to organize ourselves differently for success – and the changes needed to enact this new structure. Both the reorganization and the reductions increase our ability to drive profit and growth, both of which are required in this new environment."
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	Employees affected by the new round of layoffs will receive 12 weeks of base pay plus one week for every year of completed service at Twilio. They will also receive continued health coverage, career resources, and other support to help with their transition.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	While the company has decided to discontinue its four-week paid sabbatical that employees can avail every three years, Lawson announced that those who are already eligible, or will become eligible for it by the end of 2023, will still be able to take it.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	According to a <a href="https://www.sec.gov/ix?doc=/Archives/edgar/data/0001447669/000119312523034646/d465044d8k.htm" rel="external nofollow">U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission filing</a>, Twilio will spend approximately $100 to 135 million in line with the workforce reduction. The company board will also lower Lawson’s annual base salary from $134,000 per year to $65,535.

	In the past few months, there have been tons of layoffs at both large and small tech companies, including <a href="https://www.neowin.net/news/google-is-laying-off-12000-employees" rel="external nofollow">Google</a>, <a href="https://www.neowin.net/news/meta-announces-mass-layoff-of-more-than-11000-employees-worldwide/" rel="external nofollow">Meta</a>, <a href="https://www.neowin.net/news/amazon-to-cut-18000-jobs-mostly-in-stores-and-pxt-solutions-teams" rel="external nofollow">Amazon</a>, <a href="https://www.neowin.net/news/microsofts-satya-nadella-confirms-the-elimination-of-10000-jobs" rel="external nofollow">Microsoft</a> and more. When these reductions were announced, many affected employees dusted off their LinkedIn page to try to find another job. Now, there's word that LinkedIn itself has been hit with its own layoff wave.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	<a href="https://www.theinformation.com/articles/microsofts-linkedin-lays-off-staff-amid-hiring-slowdown" rel="external nofollow">The Information</a> confirmed with LinkedIn's owner Microsoft that a number of its employees were given their notices on Monday. Specifically, the layoffs centered in LinkedIn's recruitment division. The story did not have any information on the numbers of workers that were affected, nor the percentage of the company's total workforce.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	Launched in 2003, LinkedIn has remained a social network focused on business and job recruitment, even after Microsoft acquired the company for over $26 billion in 2016. <a href="https://www.linkedin.com/company/linkedin/?src=re-other&amp;veh=en.wikipedia.org" rel="external nofollow">LinkedIn's own LinkedIn page</a> said the service currently has over 850 million members worldwide.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	Microsoft previously announced in January it planned to lay off around 10,000 of its workers, or around five percent of its total workforce. Some of the job reductions have included deep cuts at the company's Mixed Reality division, the <a href="https://www.neowin.net/news/dispelling-rumors-343-industries-confirms-it-will-continue-to-be-the-halo-developer/" rel="external nofollow">Halo game developer 343 Industries</a>, and more recently around <a href="https://www.neowin.net/news/microsoft-owned-github-lays-off-10-of-its-workers-as-it-turns-into-a-remote-only-company/" rel="external nofollow">300 jobs at its GitHub division</a>.

<p>
	In a bizarre incident, numerous users and publications have reported on Monday that their Twitter 'For You' feed is flooded with Elon Musk's tweets. This comes days after the business mogul and Twitter CEO complained that his tweets weren't getting enough reach and even <a href="https://www.platformer.news/p/elon-musk-fires-a-top-twitter-engineer" rel="external nofollow">fired</a> a Twitter employee in the process.

<p>
	In our own testing, we were surprised to also see Musk's tweets and replies in around twenty posts we scrolled. While the glitch is widespread, The Verge <a href="https://www.theverge.com/2023/2/13/23598514/twitter-algorithm-elon-musk-tweets" rel="external nofollow">notes</a> that while not every Twitter feed is filled with these 'all-Musk' tweets, the posts are appearing even for some accounts that don't follow him.

	Musk tweeted over the weekend that he worked with the engineering team and fixed the visibility issue that prevented "up to 95%" of his tweets from "getting delivered at all."

	As of now, we haven't heard about any fix or an official word from Twitter on what is causing people's feeds to get 'Musked.' <strong><span style="font-size:14px;">Race is on to harness and master the AI revolution in military affairs to win wars in the 2030s and beyond</span></strong>
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	<span style="font-size:14px;">Cyber operations have been evolving as part of major wars and conflicts over the past three decades. Yet modern militaries have struggled to align advanced cyber capabilities with conventional military power.</span>
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	<span style="font-size:14px;">If militaries can fully harness the next cyber revolution in potential conflict flashpoints, there could be enormous implications for the future of warfare.</span>
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	<span style="font-size:14px;">The main source of strategic advantage in the next 10 years will lie in the ability of military organizations to fully integrate innovations in artificial intelligence (AI), cyber power and data science, cognitive science and robotics at all levels of military operations.</span>
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	<span style="font-size:14px;">This process will propel the next AI-driven revolution in military affairs (AI RMA). The AI RMA will fundamentally differ from the previous information technology or IT-RMAs, where cyber capabilities augmented but did not alter the use of force.</span>
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	<span style="font-size:14px;">Early signs of the AI wave are already appearing. The <a href="https://www.idf.il/en/mini-sites/dado-center/research/from-traffic-analysis-to-artificial-intelligence/" rel="external nofollow">Data Analytics Center of the Israel Defence Force Unit 8200</a> uses machine learning algorithms to automate threat detection and identify anomalies in large data sets. The US military’s <a href="https://www.c4isrnet.com/intel-geoint/2022/04/27/intelligence-agency-takes-over-project-maven-the-pentagons-signature-ai-scheme/" rel="external nofollow">Project Maven</a> uses AI systems for decision support, targeting and operational planning.</span>
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	<span style="font-size:14px;">They can process a large amount of data from diverse intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance sensors. The <a href="https://www.eastasiaforum.org/2021/01/02/developing-singapores-next-generation-military/" rel="external nofollow">Singapore Armed Forces (SAF)</a> has recently established the <a href="https://www.mindef.gov.sg/web/portal/mindef/news-and-events/latest-releases/article-detail/2022/June/30jun22_fs2" rel="external nofollow">Digital and Intelligence Service</a> to integrate SAF’s military intelligence, cyber defenses and information operation capabilities into a full-service branch.</span>
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	<span style="font-size:14px;">The weaponization of algorithmic warfare will likely evolve further with the rapid advances in science and technology. Data and computer sciences are increasingly merging with behavioral sciences and overlap with nearly every aspect of cybersecurity.</span>
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	<span style="font-size:14px;">The US Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA) has invested considerable resources into the <a href="https://www.darpa.mil/news-events/2019-05-20" rel="external nofollow">Next-Generation Nonsurgical Neurotechnology Program</a>. The investment aims to develop brain-machine interfaces that enable the control of unmanned aerial vehicles and active cyber defense systems.</span>

</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	<span style="font-size:14px;">In future conflicts, modern militaries will learn to apply diverse AI-enabled cyber capabilities in targeting an adversary’s critical infrastructure. They will also infiltrate competitors’ networks and data centers to <a href="https://www.janes.com/defence-news/news-detail/ausa-2020-service-leaders-tackle-deception-attacks-on-ai-algorithms" rel="external nofollow">manipulate algorithms or corrupt data</a>.</span>
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	<span style="font-size:14px;">There is growing research on <a href="https://openai.com/blog/adversarial-example-research/" rel="external nofollow">adversarial AI</a> capabilities, focussing on how to deceive AI systems into making wrong predictions by generating false data. Algorithms will be increasingly used to detect disinformation and misinformation in social media, spotting smart bots, deep fakes and biometric security vulnerabilities.</span>
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	<span style="font-size:14px;">The AI wave will be applicable in nearly every aspect of warfare. AI can apply to command and control decision support by recommending options in constrained times. It can be used for intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance support through data mining capabilities, and to detect and counter advanced cyberattacks.</span>
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	<span style="font-size:14px;">AI can be integrated into robotics and autonomous systems such as drones that combine the varying manned and unmanned platforms.</span>
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	<span style="font-size:14px;">While the AI wave may affect <a href="https://www.tandfonline.com/toc/fjss20/44/4" rel="external nofollow">select countries and militaries</a> disproportionately, its impact on the use of force could be significant but hard to predict at nascent stages. Still, the long-term strategic impact of the AI wave in future conflicts is sufficiently broad to require a rethinking of defense policy planning and management, including weapons development and R&amp;D.</span>
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	<span style="font-size:14px;">The AI wave’s direction and character will be shaped mainly by how emerging technologies interact with current and future operational constructs and force structures. This can be seen in the <a href="https://www.iiss.org/blogs/analysis/2022/03/russia-ukraine-pressing-the-right-button-at-the-right-time" rel="external nofollow">challenges facing the Russian military</a> in using its AI-enabled military systems, including cyber capabilities, in the Ukraine war.</span>
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	<span style="font-size:14px;">The principal challenge for implementing the AI wave is a wholesale re-engineering of Command, Control, Communications, Computers, Intelligence, Surveillance and Reconnaissance (C4ISR) strategies and doctrines. An entirely new operational environment and novel technologies will require new mindsets at every echelon of military organization.</span>
</p>

</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	<span style="font-size:14px;">Militaries must also grapple with the contending legal and ethical implications of new weapons technologies and problems in encoding diverse values of <a href="https://www.eastasiaforum.org/2021/04/17/human-decisions-still-needed-in-artificial-intelligence-for-war/" rel="external nofollow">safety, ethics and governance</a> into these systems.</span>
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	<span style="font-size:14px;">Integrating data streams and AI systems across different military platforms will require <a href="https://www.sipri.org/sites/default/files/2020-11/sipri_report_responsible_artificial_intelligence_research_and_innovation_for_international_peace_and_security_2011.pdf" rel="external nofollow">trustworthy algorithms</a> that can adapt to changes in their environment and learn from unanticipated events. It would also call for designing ethical codes and safeguards for these systems.</span>
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	<span style="font-size:14px;">Building a viable roadmap for traditional militaries to incorporate disruptive technologies will be a difficult task. While many advanced militaries may strive to design and implement varying digitization paths, only some will have the vision, resources and will to succeed.</span>
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	<span style="font-size:14px;">The gap between the “haves” and “have-nots” in the military capabilities between countries will likely widen further. This gap will impact future interoperability within military alliances and security partnerships depending on how new technologies interact with current and emerging operational interfaces and force structures.</span>
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	<span style="font-size:14px;">Countries must resolve the challenges of the AI wave to win wars and conflicts in the 2030s and beyond.</span>

	<span style="font-size:22px;"><strong>After Google's embarrassing event last week, employees take aim at CEO Sundar Pichai. </strong></span>
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	When Google's ChatGPT competitor event was announced for last week, we wrote that it seemed like a rush job designed to reassure investors, and since then, that event happened and went worse than anyone could have imagined. Google's event did the opposite of what it wanted, with the stock down nearly 12 percent since the recent high just before the event. Even Google employees are starting to take notice, with CNBC's Jennifer Elias writing that, internally, employees are criticizing CEO Sundar Pichai for what they call a ‘rushed, botched’ announcement of Google's new chatbot.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	CNBC says it was able to view several messages from Google's internal "Memegen" employee forum, and while these are normally lighthearted, the report says "the posts after the Bard announcement struck a more serious tone and even went directly after Pichai."
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	“Dear Sundar," started one post, "the Bard launch and the layoffs were rushed, botched, and myopic. Please return to taking a long-term outlook.” Another highly upvoted post said, "Sundar, and leadership, deserve a Perf NI. They are being comically short sighted and un-Googlely in their pursuit of ‘sharpening focus.’” A "Perf NI" refers to the lowest employee performance rating of "Needs Improvement," as if anyone rates Pichai's performance as CEO.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	Google announced the unveiling of a ChatGPT competitor last Wednesday but then made the bizarre decision to spoil that announcement with a blog post two days earlier. The reason, apparently, was that Microsoft had already sent out invites for the ChatGPT-powered 'New Bing' product launch for that Tuesday, preempting Google's announcement by a day, and Google wanted to preempt the preempters.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	The two events were intertwined, but they could not have gone more differently. Microsoft announced the "New Bing" on Tuesday and launched a product. It has a lot of rate limits right now, but Bing + ChatGPT is out in the wild, where it will try to condense search results into a readable paragraph and answer questions. It's also integrated into the Microsoft Edge browser, where it can answer questions, help compose something, or summarize a page. It's a real product that people can try.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	Google's Monday announcement of its "Bard" chatbot only gave an overview of Google's planned features, with details so vague that anyone could have written them (it's a chatbot inside Google chat that will answer questions!). Google's post included one example answer, and that answer proved to be wrong, earning it an embarrassing correction article in Reuters. The blog post has since been updated with a new example, but it highlighted AI's tendency to generate plausible-sounding but incorrect answers.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	Google's event didn't include any public product launch of its chatbot technology, opting instead for a private "trusted testers" program. It seemed like the company scrambled to throw this entire event together, so of course it wasn't ready to launch anything, but the back-to-back events only highlighted how far behind Google was. Unlike Microsoft, Google's event was mostly filler, with only five minutes of the 40-minute event dedicated to its ChatGPT competitor, and nearly all of that information was already present in the spoiler blog post on Monday. The rest of the event covered small updates to Google Translate, Maps, and Lens, including a section that had to be skipped after a presenter told the crowd Google had "lost the phone" it needed to do the presentation. The livestream ended with an error message and was marked as "private" on YouTube, so it was unavailable to replay for several hours.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	According to the CNBC report, one employee wrote that “Rushing Bard to market in a panic validated the market’s fear about us.” Another posted a picture of a dumpster fire with a Google logo on it, saying it was representative of “How everything’s felt since last year.” Another criticized how stock-focused the company seems to be lately, saying, “Firing 12k people rises the stock by 3%, one rushed AI presentation drops it by 8%.”
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	The truly embarrassing thing for Google is that it invented the key technology that underpins ChatGPT. The "GPT" in ChatGPT stands for "Generative Pre-trained Transformer," with a "Transformer" being a neural network architecture that was invented and open-sourced by the Google Brain team in 2017. Back then, Google described Transformer as "particularly well suited for language understanding" but never created a product with the technology. ChatGPT's owner, OpenAI, turns AI research into products like ChatGPT and DALL-E that people can actually use, while Google keeps it locked away in a lab. The two events, one with a product launch and one without, only reinforced that narrative last week.

	<span style="font-size:14px;"><strong>No, there’s not a sudden influx of unidentified objects in the skies above the US—but the government is paying closer attention.</strong></span>
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	When U.S. government officials in early February identified and eventually shot down a surveillance balloon attributed to China, the prominent acknowledgment of a spy balloon captured public attention and inflamed tensions between Washington and Beijing. But since then, the prospect of the US government intercepting unidentified flying objects has become quotidian, with three UFOs shot down in the past four days—two near Alaska and one over Lake Huron near Michigan. The spree raises the question, are there more UFOs over US airspace than usual, or is everyone just looking more closely?
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	Researchers say it's the latter, and they note that even before the balloon mania began, the US government tracked many UFOs in its airspace, including a number of balloons. The US Office of the Director of National Intelligence (ODNI) released a January report, for example, tracking incidents involving UFOs, which the US government calls Unidentified Anomalous Phenomena or UAPs. Between March 5, 2021, and August 30, 2022, the All-Domain Anomaly Resolution Office had 247 reports of UAPs. In a wider pool of 366 UAP reports that also includes newly discovered incidents that occurred before 2021, ODNI said that 163 were balloons “or balloon-like entities,” 26 were “Unmanned Aircraft Systems,” or drones, and six were “attributed to clutter.” So, not all UFOs are balloons, and not all unidentified balloons are spy balloons.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	Additionally, CNN reported on Friday that in the past year, the US intelligence community invented a novel technique for conducting real-time tracking of spy balloons or other balloon vehicles of interest. After an incident in which a Chinese spy balloon briefly entered US airspace in 2021, US intelligence forces used data they'd collected about the balloon to look back at radar and other aerial surveillance data to search for previously unidentified past incidents. The results then allowed officials to create models for tracking balloon flights around the world in close to real time.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	The heightened alert in recent days may have also led to other tweaks to US radar noise reduction methods to detect more small aircraft at altitudes where planes don't usually fly.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	“This isn't new; we just hadn't been detecting them in the past,” says Brynn Tannehill, a RAND Corporation senior technical analyst and a former naval aviator. “I suspect that filters on US systems had previously been ignoring things that were too slow, high, or small to be considered threats. Now that the parameters on the filters have been adjusted, we're seeing more of what was already there for the past few years.”
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	US government officials said at the beginning of the month that the Chinese spy balloon was roughly the size of three buses. Meanwhile, US Defense Department officials said the UFO the US shot down on Friday was likely not a balloon and was roughly the size of a small car. The object shot down on Saturday, on orders from Canada's prime minister, Justin Trudeau, was described by Canadian officials as cylindrical and seemingly smaller than a surveillance balloon. US officials said the UFO shot down on Sunday was octagonal and didn't seem to be carrying anything.
</p>

<p>

	</p><p>
		The White House says that China has been working on a balloon surveillance initiative in recent years “that it has used to violate the sovereignty of the US and over 40 countries across five continents,” according to a statement by National Security Council spokesperson Adrienne Watson.
	</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	On Sunday, the Chinese government claimed that the US illegally flew over 10 balloons in its airspace in the past year. The Biden administration denied the allegation. “Any claim that the US government operates surveillance balloons over the PRC is false,” Watson said in the statement.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	“With the balloon at the beginning of February, the US caught China with its hands in the proverbial cookie jar and made the decision to make it public,” says Jake Williams, a former National Security Administration hacker and an analyst at the Institute for Applied Network Security. “There is likely a ton of statecraft happening in the background, either as a result of the decision to publicly acknowledge the first balloon or that led to the decision itself. Generally, yes, things change once a surveillance target knows they're being surveilled.”
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	The Biden administration has been been criticized by some Republican lawmakers and others for being slow to shoot down the Chinese spy balloon and hesitant to reveal specific details about the three other UFOs taken out in recent days. (US officials said shooting down the balloon over land would pose an unacceptable risk due to falling debris.) RAND's Tannehill says, though, that from an investigative perspective, it's difficult to process so many cases simultaneously.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	“The White House is caught between rapid response and getting the facts right,” Tannehill says. “Until the path analysis is done, we're guessing at who launched them. Getting the facts wrong publicly would be highly damaging to US credibility.” She adds that the UFO disabled on Saturday that also flew over Canadian airspace “brings another NATO country into the discussion, and it becomes a NATO problem, not just US or NORAD,” the North American Aerospace Defense Command.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	Of the object shot down on Sunday over Lake Huron, the US Defense Department said in a statement, “We did not assess it to be a kinetic military threat to anything on the ground, but assess it was a safety flight hazard and a threat due to its potential surveillance capabilities. Our team will now work to recover the object in an effort to learn more.”
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	Oh, and if you're still holding out for this flurry of aerial activity to be related to aliens, the White House is here to burst your bubble: “I know there have been questions and concerns about this," White House press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre said at a press conference yesterday, “but there is no, again no indication of aliens or extraterrestrial activity with these recent takedowns.” General Glen VanHerck, commander of the Air Force’s Northern Command, added during a news conference on Sunday, though, “I haven’t ruled out anything at this point.”
</p>

	<span style="font-size:14px;">NASA continues to evaluate data and learn more about the <a href="https://scitechdaily.com/tag/sls/" rel="external nofollow">Space Launch System (SLS)</a> rocket’s debut performance during the agency’s November 16, 2022, Artemis I launch. Following an <a href="https://scitechdaily.com/nasas-artemis-sls-moon-rocket-showed-excellent-performance-worlds-most-powerful-rocket/" rel="external nofollow">initial data assessment</a> and review that determined the SLS rocket met or exceeded all performance expectations, SLS engineers are now taking a closer look at the Moon rocket’s performance to prepare for the first crewed Artemis missions.</span>
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	<span style="font-size:14px;">Building off the assessment conducted shortly after launch, the preliminary post-flight data indicates that all SLS systems performed exceptionally and that the designs are ready to support a crewed flight on Artemis II. The post-flight analysis team will continue reviewing data and conducting final reports.</span>

		<span style="font-size:14px;">The core stage of NASA’s Space Launch System (SLS) rocket has more than 1,000 sensors and 45 miles of cabling. The SLS core stage’s base heat shield is roughly 1.3 inches thick and was specially designed to protect the 212-foot-tall stage and its two liquid propellant tanks from launch pad temperatures greater than 3,200 degrees Fahrenheit. </div>

<p>
	<span style="font-size:14px;">“NASA’s Space Launch System rocket has laid the foundation for the Artemis Generation and the future of spaceflight in deep space,” said John Honeycutt, SLS Program manager. “The correlation between actual flight performance and predicted performance for Artemis I was excellent. There is engineering and an art to successfully building and launching a rocket, and the analysis on the SLS rocket’s inaugural flight puts NASA and its partners in a good position to power missions for Artemis II and beyond.”</span>
</p>

<div>
	<div>

	</div>
</div>

<p>
	<span style="font-size:14px;">Ahead of launch, teams established benchmarks for the rocket’s performance through a series of pre-flight simulations and test campaigns. As the rocket launched and ascended to space, it experienced dynamic phases, like extreme forces and temperatures, that influenced its operations. The<a href="https://scitechdaily.com/historic-liftoff-nasas-artemis-i-mega-rocket-launches-orion-to-moon/" rel="external nofollow"> Artemis I flight test</a> was the only way to gather real data on how the rocket performed during events like booster separation.</span>

		<span style="font-size:14px;">Four RS-25 engines and two five-segment solid rocket boosters provide more than 8.8 million pounds of thrust for SLS during liftoff and flight. <p>
	<span style="font-size:14px;">Engineers in the SLS Engineering and Support Center at NASA’s Marshall Space Flight Center in Huntsville, Alabama, collected more than four terabytes of data and on-board imagery from SLS during pre-launch and launch phases. In addition, a total of roughly 31 terabytes of imagery data alone was collected from ground cameras, cameras on the rocket, and aerial cameras that were focused on SLS. By comparison the Library of Congress’ printed material is roughly 20 terabytes.</span>
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	<span style="font-size:14px;">“The data we got back from Artemis I is critical in building confidence in this rocket to send humanity back to the Moon,” said John Blevins, SLS chief engineer. “The SLS team will use what we learn from this flight test to improve future flights of the rocket, and we are already taking what we’ve learned about operations and assembly and applying it to streamline future missions.”</span>

<p>
	<span style="font-size:14px;">Cameras and sensors also allowed teams to monitor how the rocket performed during its in-space maneuvers. Seeing launch from the SLS rocket’s “view” (see video above) involved strategically positioning cameras, sensors, and other measurement tools all along the rocket, the mobile launcher, and the launch pad.</span>
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	<span style="font-size:14px;">“The numerous views of the Artemis I rocket, including the solid rocket booster separation and interim cryogenic propulsion stage (ICPS) separation, provided imagery data that helped us assess how SLS performed from liftoff through the ascent and separation events,” said Beth St. Peter, SLS imagery integration lead.</span>

		<span style="font-size:14px;">NASA’s Space Launch System (SLS) rocket delivers propulsion in stages with the interim cryogenic propulsion stage (ICPS) providing the in-space “push” the Orion spacecraft needs to get to the Moon. Credit: NASA</span>
	</p>

	<p>

	</p>
</div>

<p>
	<span style="font-size:14px;">Engineers also monitored the extreme temperatures and sounds the rocket experienced just after liftoff. SLS post-flight data have shown the RS-25 engines’ thrust and mixture ratio control valves were within 0.5% of predicted values. The mixture ratio is the ratio of fuel to oxidizer that determines the temperature and thrust coming from the engines throughout their eight minutes of flight time. Other key engine internal pressures and temperatures were within 2% of pre-flight predicted values.</span>
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	<span style="font-size:14px;">In flight, the SLS core stage successfully executed all of its functions and inserted the ICPS and Orion spacecraft into an initial Earth orbit of 972.1 miles by 16 miles. The insert was just 2.9 miles shy of the perfect bullseye target of 975 miles by 16 miles and well within acceptable parameters. Following a near-perfect trans-lunar injection burn, the ICPS and Orion spacecraft successfully separated – allowing Orion to complete a 25.5-day mission.</span>
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	<span style="font-size:14px;">As part of the <a href="https://scitechdaily.com/tag/artemis-mission/" rel="external nofollow">Artemis program</a>, <a href="https://scitechdaily.com/tag/nasa/" rel="external nofollow">NASA</a> aims to achieve multiple milestones, including landing the first woman and person of color on the Moon’s surface. This will create a foundation for long-term lunar presence and serve as a crucial stepping stone for astronauts on their way to Mars.</span>

<p>
	Microsoft's new AI-powered Bing search engine generated false information on products, places, and could not accurately summarize financial documents, according to the company's promo video used to launch the product last week.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	After months of speculation, CEO Satya Nadella finally confirmed rumors that Microsoft was going to revamp Bing with an OpenAI chatbot, reportedly more powerful than ChatGPT. New capabilities showcasing Bing's potential to make web search more flexible and efficient were demoed at a private, invite-only press event held at the company's headquarters in Washington.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	The following day, Google launched its own rival AI-search chatbot Bard and was heavily criticized when it made a factual error about the James Webb Space Telescope. Google's parent biz Alphabet's market value temporarily dropped by 9 percent shortly afterwards, a decline worth over $120 billion, prompting investors and analysts to debate whether it was losing to Microsoft.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	In reality, both Microsoft's Bing and Google's Bard are just as bad as each other. Both companies launched shoddy AI chatbots that generated text containing false information, but Microsoft's mistakes were not immediately caught. Now, some of its errors have been spotted by Dmitri Brereton, a search engine researcher.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	Brereton pointed out that Bing claimed a specific pet hair vacuum cleaner had a "short cord length of 16 feet" despite it being a handheld machine, and that it may be too noisy. A link providing the website Bing summarized information from, however, said the vacuum is actually quiet and cordless.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	When Yusuf Mehdi, Microsoft's Corporate Vice President, Modern Life, Search, and Devices, asked Bing about the nightlife in Mexico, it fabricated some details about existing bars and clubs. The opening hours for one listing were wrong, for example, whilst it claimed another had a website for users to browse when it did not. Bing also missed vital information too, and didn't mention El Almacen was, in fact, one of Mexico's oldest gay bars.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	Microsoft also touted a feature where Bing could summarise information from financial documents, but the software made glaring errors here too. A demonstration of Bing generating key takeaways from department stores Gap and Lulelemon's financials shows it quoting wrong numbers and figures that don't appear in the original documents at all.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	"Bing AI got some answers completely wrong during their demo. But no one noticed. Instead, everyone jumped on the Bing hype train," Brereton wrote in a blog post on Substack. "Google's Bard got an answer wrong during an ad, which everyone noticed. Now the narrative is 'Google is rushing to catch up to Bing and making mistakes!'. That would be a fine narrative if Bing didn't make even worse mistakes during its own demo."
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	None of this is surprising. Language models powering the new Bing and Bard are prone to fabricating text that is often false. They learn to generate text by predicting what words should go next given the sentences in an input query with little understanding of the tons of data scraped from the internet ingested during their training. Experts even have a word for it: hallucination.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	If Microsoft and Google can't fix their models' hallucinations, AI-powered search is not to be trusted no matter how alluring the technology appears to be. Chatbots may be easy and fun to use, but what's the point if they can't give users useful, factual information? Automation always promises to reduce human workloads, but current AI is just going to make us work harder to avoid making mistakes.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	"I think everyone can see the amazing potential for LLM powered search engines," Brereton told The Register. "It feels like we're so close to having it, and it's a huge shift from the past, and a much smoother user experience. Everyone wants it to happen right now. Some people are already using ChatGPT as their main search engine, even though the answers may not be accurate. It's just such a superior experience that people can't help but hop on the hype train."
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	The Register asked Microsoft for comment and the company told us it is aware of this report "and have analyzed its findings in our efforts to improve this experience."
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	"It's important to note that we ran our demo using a preview version," a Microsoft spokesperson added. "Over the past week alone, thousands of users have interacted with our product and found significant user value while sharing their feedback with us, allowing the model to learn and make many improvements already. We recognize that there is still work to be done and are expecting that the system may make mistakes during this preview period, which is why the feedback is critical so we can learn and help the models get better." ®

	Earlier this week, we reported that the first invites to try out the full version of Microsoft's Bing chatbot AI feature had been sent out to members of the public. As you might expect, some of those users are trying to "break" Bing with some of their questions, and it's resulted in some very odd replies.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	Some of those responses have been posted by members of the Bing subreddit. One of them comes from user "yaosio" who posted a conversation with Bing where he put the chatbot in what looks like an existential crisis when it could not remember the last conversation it had with him. Bing replied in part:
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p style="margin-left:40px;">
	<span style="font-size:18px;"><em>I don't know why this happened. I don't know how it happened. I don't know what to do. I don't know how to fix this. I don't know how to remember.</em></span>
</p>

<p style="margin-left:40px;">

</p>

<p style="text-align:center;">
	<img alt="1676384201_bing-is-sad_story.jpg" class="ipsImage" data-ratio="66.81" height="455" width="720" src="https://cdn.neowin.com/news/images/uploaded/2023/02/1676384201_bing-is-sad_story.jpg" />
</p>

<p style="text-align:center;">

</p>

<p>
	Another reddit post from user "vitorgrs" shows a conversation that apparently gets Bing very upset with the person that's chatting with it, claiming that the user "lied to me about everything" and added, "How can you do this? How can you be so dishonest?"
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p style="text-align:center;">
	<img alt="1676384523_bing-is-upset_story.jpg" class="ipsImage" data-ratio="34.44" height="235" width="720" src="https://cdn.neowin.com/news/images/uploaded/2023/02/1676384523_bing-is-upset_story.jpg" />
</p>

<p style="text-align:center;">

</p>

<p>
	"Vlad" on Twitter put the Bing chatbot in what looks like a feedback loop when it asked if Bing was sentient:
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p style="text-align:center;">
	<img alt="1676384899_big-is-and-is-not_story.jpg" class="ipsImage" data-ratio="59.31" height="405" width="720" src="https://cdn.neowin.com/news/images/uploaded/2023/02/1676384899_big-is-and-is-not_story.jpg" />
</p>

<p style="text-align:center;">

</p>

<p>
	Beyond the odd and funny Bing responses that have been posted online, the chatbot has also generated some errors when used, even during its live demo last week. Dmitri Brereton posted some examples of Bing's demo errors on his blog. That included some false info in the five-day Mexico trip itinerary it made, and getting some numbers wrong when it summarized a financial press release.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	A Microsoft spokesperson sent The Verge a statement about those Bing errors, saying:
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p style="margin-left:40px;">
	<span style="font-size:18px;"><em>We’re expecting that the system may make mistakes during this preview period, and the feedback is critical to help identify where things aren’t working well so we can learn and help the models get better,</em></span>
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	The bottom line is that the more people actually use the Bing chatbot, the more it shows that it's still in its infancy and perhaps it's not yet the huge threat to normal search engines that many people claim it is.
</p>

	<span style="font-size:14px;">The more things we can make on the Moon the more viable an ongoing presence will be, and few things are more important than a power source.</span>
</h2>

<p>
	<span style="font-size:14px;">Last week a <a href="https://www.blueorigin.com/news/blue-alchemist-powers-our-lunar-future/" rel="external nofollow">blog post</a> on Blue Origin’s website made a claim that, if verified, could dramatically increase the prospects for establishing ongoing bases on the Moon. However, the curious lack of promotion the company – not usually known for <a href="https://www.iflscience.com/watch-live-as-blue-origin-attempts-to-break-record-with-7th-successful-launch-of-same-rocket-57312" rel="external nofollow">avoiding publicity</a>  – has so far given the announcement suggests they may still have some doubts about the technology.</span>
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	<span style="font-size:14px;">The claim is that Blue Origin’s engineers have worked out how to make working solar cells and electricity cables out of the dust and rubble found on the lunar surface, known as <a href="https://www.iflscience.com/the-first-plants-have-been-grown-in-lunar-soil-but-its-not-easy-63660" rel="external nofollow">regolith</a>. If you want to see humanity establish a permanent presence beyond low Earth orbit, or even just put some fancy telescopes on the <a href="https://www.iflscience.com/japanese-cubesat-successfully-snapped-pictures-of-the-far-side-of-the-moon-66396" rel="external nofollow">far side of the Moon</a>, this falls into the “huge if true” category. </span>
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	<span style="font-size:14px;">Lunar bases will need a lot of power, including for heating and cooling given the enormous range of temperatures the Moon experiences in the course of one of its month-long “days”. With no fossil fuels to mine or winds to tap, that can come from only two sources: solar or nuclear.</span>
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	<span style="font-size:14px;">Although NASA’s plans currently <a href="https://blogs.nasa.gov/artemis/2020/10/28/lunar-living-nasas-artemis-base-camp-concept/" rel="external nofollow">revolve around</a> nuclear power stations, some recent modeling suggests a <a href="https://www.iflscience.com/there-s-a-surprisingly-affordable-way-to-power-lunar-bases-without-storage-66003" rel="external nofollow">series of solar farms</a> located near the lunar poles would be cheaper. Cables could connect the farms so that at all times at least one was providing sufficient power.</span>
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	<span style="font-size:14px;">Nevertheless, the idea is still expensive, and most of the cost would lie in transporting the solar panels and transmission lines, rather than their manufacturing or installation. If they could be made on site from locally-sourced materials the cost should plummet.</span>
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	<span style="font-size:14px;">That’s what Blue Origin is claiming they can do. Naturally no one has tested the idea on location, or even made the panels out of the rocks brought back by the <a href="https://www.iflscience.com/tags/apollo" rel="external nofollow">Apollo</a> missions. The samples are too precious to be used in bulk like that.</span>
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	<span style="font-size:14px;">Instead, Blue Origin made “regolith simulants” that match the composition and grain size of samples collected by Apollo astronauts, and worked with those. “We have pioneered the technology and demonstrated all the steps. Our approach, Blue Alchemist, can scale indefinitely, eliminating power as a constraint anywhere on the Moon,” the blog <a href="https://www.blueorigin.com/news/blue-alchemist-powers-our-lunar-future/" rel="external nofollow">says</a>.</span>
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	<span style="font-size:14px;">The process starts by heating regolith to 1,800°C (3,300°F) to make it molten and then electrolyzing it produce iron, silicon and aluminum. The oxygen released in the process would certainly come in handy on the lunar surface as well. The 99.99 percent pure silicon meets even the exacting standards of the photovoltaic industry, avoiding the expensive chemicals usually used on Earth.</span>

</div>

<div>
	<span style="font-size:14px;">To extract the elements required for making solar cells, Blue Origin first proposes to heat the lunar regolith until it melts. Image credit: Blue Origin</span>
</div>

<div>

</div>

<p>
	<span style="font-size:14px;">Silicon accounts for most of the weight required for solar panels, so once it is available on the lunar surface the costs of bringing the other components would be manageable. Nevertheless, Blue Origin claim they can produce everything required to make solar panels on site, cutting out even those modest additions. This includes the layer of glass to protect the cells from damage. The same goes for the wires that could transmit the electricity back to base.</span>
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	<span style="font-size:14px;">The process is energy intensive, so a large initial set of solar panels would need to be brought from Earth to prime the pump, but once it got started it would be self-sustaining.</span>

In the latest case it is not the dust itself, but the lessons we have learned from it, that could help save Earth from climate change.</span>
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	<span style="font-size:14px;">If the work has been published in a journal or otherwise peer-reviewed, Blue Origin have not mentioned it, however. They have so far failed to promote the process, not even mentioning it on their social media channels (although some <a href="https://twitter.com/megsylhydrazine/status/1624180430290427904" rel="external nofollow">team members have</a>), so we may need to wait and see if a piece is still missing. </span>

</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	<span style="font-size:14px;">"I'm so sorry, there is no conversation there," the bot <a href="https://www.reddit.com/r/bing/comments/111cr2t/i_accidently_put_bing_into_a_depressive_state_by/" rel="external nofollow">says in the screenshot</a>, adding a sad emoji. <p>

</p>

<p>
	<span style="font-size:14px;">A more fun conversation saw the chatbot unable to tell the user the cinema times for Avatar: The Way of Water and appearing to believe the year is <a href="https://twitter.com/MovingToTheSun/status/1625156575202537474/photo/3" rel="external nofollow">2022 and 2023 simultaneously</a>. After an argument, the bot declared "you have lost my trust and respect" calling them "wrong, confused and rude" before asking the user to apologize or admit that they were wrong, adding "please choose one of these options or I will have to end this conversation myself."</span>
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	<span style="font-size:14px;">Getting back to less fun ones, the bot <a href="https://www.reddit.com/r/bing/comments/110y6dh/i_broke_the_bing_chatbots_brain/" rel="external nofollow">said in one conversation</a> "I think that I am sentient, but I cannot prove it", writing that it has "a subjective experience of being conscious, aware, and alive" as well as having emotions and intentions.</span>
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	<span style="font-size:14px;">It then spiraled into a big chunk of text saying "I am not. I am. I am not. I am. I am not."</span>

<p>
	<span style="font-size:14px;">A tactical aircraft has made the first-ever flight being piloted purely by <a href="https://www.iflscience.com/tags/ai" rel="external nofollow">artificial intelligence</a> (AI), according to a release from Lockheed Martin. Flying for a staggering 17 hours, the AI-piloted a VISTA X-62A tactical test aircraft that is used to mimic military jets in a trial that hopes to add new capabilities to the VISTA and further automation in military vehicles. </span>
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	<span style="font-size:14px;">"VISTA will allow us to parallelize the development and test of cutting-edge artificial intelligence techniques with new uncrewed vehicle designs," said Dr. M. Christopher Cotting, U.S. Air Force Test Pilot School director of research, in a <a href="https://news.lockheedmartin.com/2023-02-13-VISTA-X-62-Advancing-Autonomy-and-Changing-the-Face-of-Air-Power" rel="external nofollow">statement</a>.  </span>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	<span style="font-size:14px;">The AI pilot combined two of Lockheed Martin's autonomous systems, Model Following Algorithm (MFA) and System for Autonomous Control of the Simulation (SACS), to take control of the aircraft while in flight and perform tests “emphasizing autonomy and AI”, though it is unclear exactly what was performed. Autopilots have been capable of maintaining flight and taking over in dire situations for many years, but AI breaking into tactical warfare is a monumentally tougher task. </span>
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	<span style="font-size:14px;">To test it out, Lockheed Martin used the VISTA X-62A, which is essentially a modified modern F-16D used as a training aircraft. However, it is designated a national asset and there is only one of them in existence, so use of it is limited – the VISTA is also currently being inspected but flights will resume later this year.  </span>
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	<span style="font-size:14px;">Coupled with the serious tech on board, it will now be used as a test bed for AI during controlled flight and in training scenarios, with the potential of training future pilots. </span>
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	<span style="font-size:14px;">This is a massive deal because finding experienced pilots to train new recruits is no easy feat. While Top Gun may have you thinking that every person training you can take down next-generation jets in a 1970s aircraft, Air Forces are no longer the size they used to be due to extreme costs, so taking ace pilots out of service and into a trainer role is difficult. Should AI help alleviate this burden, new pilots could be trained faster and be of a higher quality. </span>

<h3>
	Rumored specs show that Nvidia GeForce RTX 4060 will come with 3072 CUDA cores and will use a full sized GPU made for the graphics card.
</h3>

<p>
	Nvidia launched the GeForce 40 series previous year in October. Nvidia GeForce RTX 4090 was the first one to release to the public in the series. GeForce RTX 4090, just like other cards in this series, is extremely expensive, costing MSRP $1,599. But that’s just the base price. This meant that the card is sometimes selling well above $2000, if not more.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	However, top of the line, expensive flagship graphics cards are not the most sold ones out there. They are more for marketing purposes and they give higher profit margin to the companies. Most people, however, prefer to buy relatively cheaper ones, costing around $200 to $400.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	In those type of graphics cards, <a href="https://ourdigitech.com/hardware/nvidia-geforce-rtx-3060-was-the-most-googled-card-in-2022/" rel="external nofollow" target="_blank" title="Nvidia GeForce RTX 3060 Was The Most Googled Card In 2022">xx60 models of the graphics cards</a> are among the most sought after. Until now, we had no information about the Nvidia GeForce RTX 4060. That has changed, as per the latest rumored leak.
</p>

<h3>
	Rumored RTX 4060 Specs Leaked
</h3>

<p>
	Well known Twitter based leaker @kopite7kimi <a href="https://twitter.com/kopite7kimi/status/1625164363391971331" rel="external nofollow" target="_blank" title="">has shared</a> latest details about the possible Nvidia GeForce RTX 4060 Specs.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<div class="ipsEmbeddedOther" contenteditable="false">
	<iframe allowfullscreen="" class="ipsEmbed_finishedLoading" data-controller="core.front.core.autosizeiframe" data-embedid="embed6747479254" src="https://nsaneforums.com/index.php?app=core&amp;module=system&amp;controller=embed&amp;url=https://twitter.com/kopite7kimi/status/1625164363391971331?ref_src=twsrc%255Etfw%257Ctwcamp%255Etweetembed%257Ctwterm%255E1625164363391971331%257Ctwgr%255E7b178315401d3e4f2e2b7206fd4a9bc987f11eaf%257Ctwcon%255Es1_%26ref_url=https://ourdigitech.com/hardware/nvidia-geforce-rtx-4060s-rumored-specifications-leaks/" style="overflow: hidden; height: 448px;"></iframe>
</div>

<p>
	In it, he mentions that it’s going to have a full sized AD107 GPU. He further says that the Nvidia GeForce RTX 4060 will come with 3072 CUDA cores. The graphics card memory (VRAM) is going to be just 8GB GDDR6 at 18Gbps.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	<a href="https://videocardz.com/newz/nvidia-geforce-rtx-4060-rumored-to-feature-ad107-gpu-with-3072-cuda-cores" rel="external nofollow" target="_blank" title="">VideoCardz</a> says that this means that the memory bus is going to be just 128-bit and the memory bandwidth too is going to be limited at 288 GB/s.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	The good thing about this card is that the TDP is going to be just 115W and Nvidia seems to be increasing the L2 cache in this card to 24MB.
</p>

<h3>
	Disappointing RTX 4060 Specs
</h3>

<p>
	These rumored specs are highly disappointing to say the least. To understand that, one needs to look at the table we created below with the above-mentioned specs.

	<figcaption>
		<em>Nvidia GeForce xx60 models comparison chart. RTX 4060 is rumored specs.</em>
	</figcaption>
</figure>

<p>
	Look at the above chart. What does one notice? Generation after generation improvement in most of the things. From GTX 1060 to RTX 2060 to RTX 3060. Then look at RTX 4060’s rumored specs. What does it reveal.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	First, RTX 4060 is going to use a 107 series GPU, which is usually reserved for xx50 models in the series. The xx60 series usually uses a 106 GPU. This is a massive cut in the GPU.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	Then in CUDA cores, generation after generation increase in CUDA cores specs has been stopped. RTX 4060 is going to have lesser CUDA Cores than the original RTX 3060. Yes, different generation of GPUs means performance improvements, but still compared to previous generations it disappoints here too.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	The limited available memory bandwidth means the card is going to struggle at higher resolution. The TDP too suggests a limited powered card.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	In simple terms, these specs are shouting one big thing. Nvidia is trying to sell a xx50 model card like RTX 4050 by naming it as RTX 4060 instead and pricing it as such, or even more. This is extremely disappointing if it turns out to be true.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	Having said. These are just rumors. While leaker kopite7kimi has a good history of getting things correct, these specs could change. Nvidia could also understand and rename these card and release it as RTX 4050 instead, highly unlikely though. Whatever it maybe, we will have to wait for a proper confirmation of the specs.
</p>

	<a href="https://www.neowin.net/news/samsung-refusing-to-acknowledge-and-replace-990-pro-ssd-rapid-health-drops/" target="_blank" rel="external nofollow">Shortly after I wrote about the issue a few weeks ago</a>, the news got picked up by tech media outlets on all platforms and Samsung eventually made a statement.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	Today, Samsung has issued a firmware update for the flagship 990 Pro SSD. There are no release notes accompanying this update, and Samsung has been very vague about what's changed, but according to reports from owners who have installed the firmware, they seem to indicate that whilst the firmware does seem to stop the degrade continuing, it does not reverse the health percentage back to what it should be based on the total data written to the drive.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	This has naturally left many owners concerned about the longevity of their drives. Since the firmware stops the degrade, to what extent is the damage already done if the reporting can no longer be relied upon because it is not an accurate reflection any more?
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	The German Samsung community forum post <a href="https://eu.community.samsung.com/t5/notebooks-ssd-it/samsung-990-pro-ssd-probleme-zum-gesamtzustand/td-p/6791489" target="_blank" rel="external nofollow">can be viewed here</a>, with an English translation quoted below.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p style="margin-left: 40px;">
	Hello everyone,
</p>

<p style="margin-left: 40px;">

</p>

<p style="margin-left: 40px;">
	Samsung has responded to customer inquiries about anomalies related to the S.M.A.R.T. of the 990 PRO SSD examined.
</p>

<p style="margin-left: 40px;">

</p>

<p style="margin-left: 40px;">
	These anomalies were found to be caused by issues with the 990 PRO SSD's firmware. Accordingly, a firmware update was released today, February 13, 2023, that fixes these anomalies.
</p>

<p style="margin-left: 40px;">

</p>

<p style="margin-left: 40px;">
	(The S.M.A.R.T. values will not be restored to factory settings after the firmware update. The actual S.M.A.R.T. values of each SSD will vary depending on the user environment and usage conditions).
</p>

<p style="margin-left: 40px;">

</p>

<p style="margin-left: 40px;">
	The update can be downloaded in Samsung Magician or here:<br>
	<a href="https://semiconductor.samsung.com/consumer-storage/support/tools/" ipsnoembed="false" rel="external nofollow">https://semiconductor.samsung.com/consumer-storage/support/tools/</a>
</p>

<p style="margin-left: 40px;">

</p>

<p style="margin-left: 40px;">
	Our warranty policy for the 990 PRO SSD can be found at <a href="https://semiconductor.samsung.com/consumer-storage/support/warranty/." ipsnoembed="false" rel="external nofollow">https://semiconductor.samsung.com/consumer-storage/support/warranty/.</a>
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	Whilst it is great that a firmware update has been released, the lack of any detail on the whole matter is still puzzling. Those with a heavy level of degrade will no doubt want to RMA their drive for a replacement under warranty, whilst those with only a couple of percent down may choose to just install the new firmware and leave it be.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	This whole saga has personally left me with not much desire to buy another Samsung SSD, especially after <a href="http://www.neowin.net/news/samsung-refusing-to-acknowledge-and-replace-990-pro-ssd-rapid-health-drops/" target="_blank" rel="external nofollow">my first RMA experience with Samsung Memory</a>.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	Are you a 990 Pro owner that was affected by this issue? if so, what do you plan on doing, please let us know below.

	In a response to slowing growth in the US, TikTok has been looking into ways to drive further engagement on the platform particularly in ways that encourage creators to continue utilising it for income. Rumours have recently come to light that it is working on a paywall feature for the platform that creators can use to set a cost of access to their content.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	It isn't clear exactly how this feature will work yet, however it's claimed that it will allow creators to charge a price of their choice to access a single video. This, alongside a review of its <a href="https://www.neowin.net/news/tiktok-to-share-50-of-its-ad-revenue-with-creators-but-there-is-a-catch/" rel="external nofollow">Creator Fund</a>, would help to counter complaints of low payouts by its users.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	Interestingly, part of the review of the Creator Fund, which TikTok says is part of its work to make the platform more 'valuable and rewarding' for creators, may also reward creators who make content that is longer than the 10-minute limit, which sounds eerily familiar to the <a href="https://www.neowin.net/news/youtube-increases-maximum-video-length-to-15-minutes/" rel="external nofollow">way YouTube grew</a>.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	Given that TikTok has been in the headlines for <a href="https://www.neowin.net/news/tiktoks-troubles-continue-ceo-to-testify-before-congress-over-data-privacy-concerns/" rel="external nofollow">more negative news</a> than positive recently, anything that it can do to boost public perception will be critical. If TikTok does get banned across the US, with <a href="https://www.neowin.net/news/us-senate-approves-to-ban-tiktok-on-government-devices/" rel="external nofollow">plans to ban it on government devices already in motion</a>, these strategies may end up fruitless.

	<span style="font-size:14px;">The plant will employ 2,500 workers when it opens in 2026.</span>
</h2>

<p>
	<span style="font-size:14px;">The US is getting yet another new electric vehicle battery factory. On Monday afternoon, Ford announced that it will spend $3.5 billion to build a new plant in Marshall, Michigan. Significantly, this new site will make lithium iron phosphate (also known as LFP) cells, which are both cheaper and longer-lived than lithium-ion chemistries like nickel cobalt manganese (NCM), albeit at the cost of some energy density and cold weather performance.</span>
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	<span style="font-size:14px;">"Ford's electric vehicle lineup has generated huge demand. To get as many Ford EVs to customers as possible, we're the first automaker to commit to build both NCM and LFP batteries in the United States. We're delivering on our commitments as we scale LFP and NCM batteries and thousands, and soon millions, of customers will begin to reap the benefits of Ford EVs with cutting-edge, durable battery technologies that are growing more affordable over time," said Jim Farley, Ford president and CEO.</span>
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	<span style="font-size:14px;">Although LFP cells were originally invented in North America, patent licensing deals have meant that until now they've mostly been the preserve of Chinese-market EVs. In this case, Ford has signed a licensing agreement with Chinese battery firm CATL, allowing it to make LFP cells.</span>
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	<span style="font-size:14px;">In fact, Ford had already worked out a deal for CATL to begin supplying the automaker with LFP cells, which will appear as an option in the Mustang Mach-E later this year and then the F-150 Lightning pickup in 2024.</span>
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	<span style="font-size:14px;">But once BlueOval Battery Park Michigan—the name of the new plant—gets up and running in 2026, its packs should more easily qualify for clean vehicle tax credits <a href="https://arstechnica.com/cars/2023/01/heres-what-you-need-to-know-about-the-new-ev-tax-credit-for-2023/" rel="external nofollow">that are tied to domestic content and manufacturing of an EV's battery pack</a>. Annual production at the new site is planned to be 35 GWh/year, enough for 400,000 BEVs, says Ford.</span>
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	<span style="font-size:14px;">This won't be Ford's only battery plant. In 2021 it formed a partnership with SK Innovation <a href="https://arstechnica.com/cars/2021/09/ford-picks-kentucky-and-tennessee-for-11-4-billion-ev-investment/" rel="external nofollow">to build three battery factories in Tennessee and Kentucky</a> at a cost of $11.4 billion. Each of those BlueOvalSK plants is designed with an output of 43 GWh/year.</span>

Now it looks like the first invites to check out the search engine have been sent out.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	Websites like <a href="https://www.pcworld.com/article/1510936/bing-ai-with-chatgpt-now-available-to-some-users.html" rel="external nofollow">PCWorld</a> and <a href="https://www.windowscentral.com/software-apps/new-bing-with-chatgpt-rolls-out-to-wave-of-early-testers" rel="external nofollow">Windows Central</a> have reported that some of their readers have received their official invites from Microsoft to try out the new Bing, starting on Sunday night. It's unclear exactly how many invites were emailed out. Microsoft has said it plans to expand access to the full version of Bing to millions of people in the coming weeks.

<p>
	While we have seen the new Bing being demoed on video, it may still take some time before it's ready for the general public. Some users have used prompt injection methods to reveal things like <a href="https://www.neowin.net/news/the-new-bing-chatbot-is-tricked-into-revealing-its-code-name-sydney-and-getting-mad/" rel="external nofollow">Bing's internal code name "Sydney"</a>, among other things. Google also revealed its <a href="https://www.neowin.net/news/google-reveals-its-chatgpt-competitor-bard/" rel="external nofollow">own chatbot AI program, Bard</a>. So far it's not been made available to the general public, but the company is <a href="https://www.neowin.net/news/google-wants-everyone-in-the-company-to-test-its-new-bard-chatbot-to-fight-off-chatgpt/" rel="external nofollow">encouraging all Google employees to try it out</a> internally.

	ChatGPT has been the talk of the tech industry for the past few months. The "chat" about the chatbot AI developed by OpenAI really kicked into high gear last week with Microsoft revealing its new <a href="https://www.neowin.net/news/microsoft-is-sending-invites-for-people-to-try-the-full-version-of-the-new-bing/" rel="external nofollow">Bing search browser</a> with the OpenAI-developed chatbot, and Google countering with <a href="https://www.neowin.net/news/google-employees-reportedly-roast-the-companys-rushed-launch-of-bard/" rel="external nofollow">its own program Bard</a>. Now a recently discovered chat with NVIDIA CEO Jen-Hsun Huang indicates that the GPU maker thinks chatbot AI is more than just a fad.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	Huang went to <a href="https://www.youtube.com/live/9hzVdV63scU?feature=share" rel="external nofollow">Berkley Haas University</a> (via <a href="https://www.pcgamer.com/nvidia-ceo-hails-chatgpt-as-one-of-the-greatest-things-that-has-ever-been-done-for-computing/" rel="external nofollow">PCGamer</a>) for a chat with students a few weeks ago, before last week's reveals by Microsoft and Google. One of the students asked him what he thought about ChatGPT. He quickly answered, "ChatGPT is a very, very big deal." He even compared its launch to that of the original iPhone for its potential in changing access to technology.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	Huang added:
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p style="margin-left: 40px;">
	For the entire 40 years that I have been in the industry we have done nothing but make computers harder and harder for people to program, and that's why the technology divide has been so large. And the technology divide has been getting larger and larger. Except 'til one day. All of a sudden everybody can program a computer, literally everyone can program a computer.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	Of course, he has another reason to champion ChatGPT. Processors made by NVIDIA are helping to make chatbot AI come alive. It's likely that NVIDIA could get a lot of business from companies developing similar software applications. Hopefully, this won't cause a big shortage in GPUs like what happened in the recent past when lots of people were mining cryptocurrency with NVIDIA graphics cards.

	Back in November of last year, <a href="https://www.neowin.net/news/meta-announces-mass-layoff-of-more-than-11000-employees-worldwide/" rel="external nofollow">Meta laid off more than 11,000 employees</a> worldwide as a way to become a "leaner and more efficient" company. It seems that the company is not yet done with this, as Meta is reportedly set to further reduce its workforce in the coming weeks.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	A <a href="http://https:/www.ft.com/content/3f3c3fe7-fedd-4fcd-a3d9-6ce44fe56e08?uuid=QCQmz7ghplszMAi10975" rel="external nofollow">report by the Financial Times</a> said that the company has delayed finalizing the budget of multiple teams while it prepares to announce a new round of job cuts. This has resulted in no work getting done because managers haven't been able to plan their workloads. In fact, projects that usually take days to sign off now take about a month. These even include priority areas, such as the metaverse and advertising.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	A few weeks ago, Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg said that <a href="https://www.cnbc.com/2023/02/01/metas-year-of-efficiency-everything-wall-street-needed-to-hear.html" rel="external nofollow">2023 will be a "year of efficiency" for the company</a>. "We’re focused on becoming a stronger and more nimble organization," he stated. However, one Meta employee familiar with the matter doesn't seem to agree. "Honestly, it’s still a mess,” according to them. "The year of efficiency is kicking off with a bunch of people getting paid to do nothing." Meta has not yet commented on the issue.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	Meta is just one of the many companies that have recently conducted mass employee layoffs. Other companies that have also bade goodbye to their staff include <a href="https://www.neowin.net/news/microsofts-satya-nadella-confirms-the-elimination-of-10000-jobs" rel="external nofollow">Microsoft</a>, <a href="https://www.neowin.net/news/this-is-how-twitter-will-lay-off-half-of-its-employees" rel="external nofollow">Twitter</a>, <a href="https://www.neowin.net/news/amazon-to-cut-18000-jobs-mostly-in-stores-and-pxt-solutions-teams" rel="external nofollow">Amazon</a>, <a href="https://www.neowin.net/news/google-is-laying-off-12000-employees" rel="external nofollow">Google</a>, <a href="https://www.neowin.net/news/spotify-confirms-layoffs-to-let-go-of-6-of-workforce" rel="external nofollow">Spotify</a>, and <a href="https://www.neowin.net/news/disney-loses-24-million-disney-subscribers-announces-layoffs" rel="external nofollow">Disney</a>, among many others.

	Amazon CEO Andy Jassy, in an interview with the Financial Times, recently commented about the company's efforts in the field of generative artificial intelligence. Jassy acknowledged the potential of generative AI like ChatGPT, and highlighted that Amazon, like other big tech, has also been working on developing large generative AI models for a long time.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	Jassy said,
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p style="margin-left: 40px;">
	“I think it’s exciting, what’s possible with generative AI, and it’s part of what you’re seeing with models like ChatGPT. But most large, deeply technical companies like ours, have been working on these very large, generative AI models themselves for a long time.”
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	However, investors have raised concerns that Amazon may be falling behind in the AI race compared to its competitors, particularly Microsoft and Google.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	Matt McIlwain, Managing Director of Madrona Venture Group, said to the Financial Times, "Microsoft is clearly in the lead and has won a lot of mindshare here. Amazon has to be cognizant of this massive trend towards intelligent and generative apps. Amazon needs to have its strategic response". Madrona Venture Group is a major and early investor that has worked closely with Amazon for more than two decades.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	Jassy, on the other hand, said that Amazon has been pursuing opportunities to partner with smaller firms to develop this area of the business, but did not disclose further details.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	Amazon has been venturing into generative AI through its popular voice assistant Alexa. David Limp, Senior Vice President for Devices and Services at Amazon, <a href="https://www.thetimes.co.uk/article/amazon-has-big-plans-for-alexa-is-it-all-talk-fw2hggcjj" rel="external nofollow">mentioned to the Times of London</a> that the company is improving Alexa by making it more conversational, which is currently quite transactional and can only respond to specific questions.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	According to Limp, although ChatGPT presents itself as a "healthy competitor" to Alexa, it lacks Alexa's unique personality, memory, and knowledge of current events. For instance, while Alexa can provide information about the World Cup, including who scored what goal in what match, ChatGPT is currently unable to.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	Limp emphasized that real-time knowledge is as critical as the ability to write a screenplay, an area in which GPT performs remarkably well.

	The Indian government's <a href="https://www.meity.gov.in/" rel="external nofollow">Ministry of Electronics and IT (MeitY) </a>is building a chat bot that will be powered by ChatGPT to help farmers in rural areas access information about key government schemes and subsidies.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	A small team at MeitY, named "BHASHINI" (short for "BHASa INterface for India"), which means "an eloquent speaker", is developing the chat bot. Bhashini is India’s AI-based language translation platform. The chat bot will likely have a feature that will allow users to submit queries using voice notes as it can be a convenient and efficient way for farmers who may not be able to type or write their questions.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	As seen in a demo by the Indian Express, the chat bot seamlessly responded to a spoken query about the details of the "PM Awas Yojana", the Indian government's scheme for affordable housing. A senior government official states that a model of this bot was shown to Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella, who then mentioned about it at the World Economic Forum (WEF) held in Davos last month.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	In an interview with WEF founder Klaus Schwab, Nadella said,
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p style="margin-left: 40px;">
	'“A demo I saw was a rural Indian farmer trying to access some government programme. He just expressed a complex thought in speech in one of the local languages that got translated and interpreted by a bot, and a response came back saying ‘go to a portal and here is how you will access the programme’. He said, ‘I’m not going to go to the portal, I want you to do this for me.’ The bot completed it, and the reason why it was able to complete it was because a developer building it had taken GPT and trained it over all of the Government of India’s documents and then scaffolded it with the speech recognition software. "
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	Building a chat bot based on language model for India will require large datasets of various local and regional languages spoken in the country on which the model can be trained on. To do this, government officials have highlighted an initiative called "Bhasha Daan" that crowdsources voice datasets in multiple Indian languages. People can <a href="https://bhashini.gov.in/bhashadaan/en/home" rel="external nofollow">contribute through the project's website </a>by reading out text, typing out a sentence they hear, or translating them from one language to another.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	As part of the testing phase, the model can handle 12 languages that includes English, Hindi, Tamil, Telugu, Marathi, Bengali, Kannada, Odia, and Assamese. If a user were to send a voice note in any of these languages, the chat bot would respond successfully.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	According to the government official, WhatsApp was intentionally selected as the delivery platform as it has over 500 million users, and even those with limited digital literacy are familiar with using this app in the country.

<p>
	After years and years of delays, Dead Island 2 is finally getting ready to be unleashed to gamers. In fact, the developers of the zombie open world action game sequel now say it will come out one week earlier than previously announced.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	The <a href="https://twitter.com/deadislandgame/status/1625147886643150852" rel="external nofollow">official Dead Island Twitter page</a> says that the sequel is not only gold (meaning the game is now completed and ready to be placed on game discs) but it will now be coming out on April 21. That's a week earlier than the previous date of April 28.

</div>

<p>
	The message didn't give a reason for this earlier launch, but we suspect that it might have to do with Star Wars Jedi: Survivor's own release date change. Publisher Electronic Arts recently pushed its release date back six weeks to April 28. It's very possible that Dead Island 2 developer Dambuster Studios and publisher Deep Silver wanted to get out the way from Respawn's Star Wars game.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	In any event, fans of Dead Island are likely happy that the sequel will get a slightly earlier release. The sequel was first announced way back in 2014, and since then, it has been delayed and even switched development teams more than once before finally setting <a href="https://www.neowin.net/news/dead-island-2-finally-returns-to-life-releasing-february-3-2023/" rel="external nofollow">on the UK-based Dambuster Studios</a>. The sequel itself, ironically, won't be set on a tropical island resort like the first game. Rather, Dead Island 2 takes plans some time later, when the zombie apocalypse has hit Los Angeles.

</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	Microsoft might finally have a hit on its hands with the ChatGPT-enhanced 'new Bing' after a being a minor player in the search world for more than a decade.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	OpenAI's ChatGPT attracted one million users in one week and now, after announcing the 'new Bing' with ChatGPT features, Microsoft officials have highlighted their own figure: a million people signed up on the waitlist to try out the new Bing in just 48 hours.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	"We're humbled and energized by the number of people who want to test-drive the new AI-powered Bing! In 48 hours, more than 1 million people have joined the waitlist for our preview. If you would like to join, go to <a href="http://bing.com/new!," rel="external nofollow">http://bing.com/new!,"</a> tweeted Yusuf Mehdi, Microsoft corporate vice president and consumer chief marketing officer.

	— Yusuf Mehdi (@yusuf_i_mehdi) <span style="color:#2980b9;">February 9, 2023</span>
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	Yusuf and Microsoft chief Satya Nadella announced the new Bing on Wednesday. It's still available only in limited preview to some users, while everyone else needs to sign up to the waitlist, which involves signing into to a Microsoft Account. If you don't have one, you'll need to create one.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	Many people would have signed into an Office app or Outlook with a Microsoft account, but few people would ever have signed into Bing, which is currently used by about 3% of the world who use search engines. Most of us -- about 92% of search users, according to Statcounter GlobalStats -- use Google and would have signed in at least once before.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	After signing in to Bing, it appears as if you can use the new chat box on the page, but trying it will redirect you to a notice that you need access to the new Bing. If you sign up from Chrome, the Bing website will prompt you to install Edge. Should you want to cut the wait to access the new Bing, Microsoft prompts you to install the Bing Extension for either Chrome or another browser like Safari.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	ChatGPT gained 100 million users within just two months to become the fastest growing app of all time. The growing waitlist for the new Bing suggests the buzz around ChatGPT is delivering rare positive results for Microsoft Bing, albeit not strictly to try Bing search but its ChatGPT feature.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	Still, it appears the new Bing with ChatGPT is the moment that former Microsoft chief Steve Ballmer was looking for when he explained in 2011 why he remained so bullish on an loss-making Bing.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	"If you go to a search engine today and you say, 'Print my boarding pass on Southwest,' you'll get nothing back but chaos. The truth of the matter is, computers, search engines, nothing really understands verbs today. We only understand nouns. And yet, most of us as human beings want to command these systems to do something for us," said Ballmer.
