Copilot Vision on Windows works with two apps at once, allowing you to continue the workflow from one app to another. Also, the Highlights feature lets you ask the AI to guide you and explain how to do certain things within an app. For example, you can ask it how to trim a video in Clipchamp or how to remove an object in the Photos app.

You can invoke Copilot Vision by launching the Copilot app and clicking the glasses icon in the bottom-right corner of the composer. Next, select the app you want to share with Copilot and click "Share." After that, you can talk to Copilot and ask for suggestions, tips, additional information, and more. To stop sharing, click "Stop." Note that Copilot Vision with Highlights does not require a Copilot Pro subscription.

Microsoft adds that Copilot Vision with Highlights is a strictly opt-in experience, which means it never turns on without your command. After the initial Recall fiasco in 2024, Microsoft is taking a more cautious approach to new features in Windows 11, especially privacy-sensitive ones.

Copilot Vision with Highlights is currently rolling out to Windows 10 and 11 users in the United States. Microsoft says that users in other non-European countries will soon have access to the feature. Microsoft has been testing Copilot Vision among Windows Insiders for a couple of weeks. The update also brings a new audio feature called crosstalk cancellation. It aims to create a better sound experience using just the Chromebook's built-in speakers. The software processes audio to make it seem like it is surrounding your head, not just coming from two small points. This tries to copy the feel of a surround sound system or good headphones. Any audio gets a boost, but you will notice it most when watching movies or playing games with directional sound. More accessibility tools have arrived, too. ChromeVox now has a direct keyboard shortcut, Search + O + C, that displays spoken text as braille captions on a connected display.

For the poor souls in IT, troubleshooting got a little less painful as well. A new event-based log collection system, when enabled by an admin, will automatically upload relevant logs when something specific fails, like an OS crash or a botched update. Instead of digging through mountains of data, administrators get targeted reports sent straight to them. Here's how to enable it:

• Turn on the Device system log upload setting.
• Turn on OS update status reporting—For the Report device OS information setting, select OS update status.
• Turn on device telemetry reporting on crash information—For the Report device telemetry setting, select Crash information.

Google also keeps things sane by limiting these targeted uploads to just twice a day per device.

As usual, the update is rolling out slowly. If you do not see ChromeOS M137 for your machine yet, just be patient. This phased release lets Google find and address any issues before the update gets to everyone.

Microsoft's video editor Clipchamp is about to get a powerful feature for trimming videos. Soon, the app will support trimming a video by editing a transcript.

Clipchamp is the built-in video editor on Windows 11. There are also versions of Clipchamp available on the web and for iOS. At this time, you cannot use Clipchamp on Android devices.

Microsoft purchased Clipchamp in 2021 and has steadily expanded the feature set of the app. It's designed to be a basic video editor, not a competitor to Adobe Premiere Pro or more powerful tools.

The work version of Clipchamp comes with select Microsoft 365 business and education licenses. It supports branded video templates, has a range of AI features, and can record your screen and webcam for creating presentations.

Clipchamp already supports generating AI transcripts for dialogue within videos. But a new feature set to ship this month will allow you to edit the text within the transcript and then have the corresponding portion of the video removed.

The capability makes it possible to trim segments of a video without having to deal with the timeline, lowering the learning curve for video editing and streamlining the process of creating videos centered around dialogue.

Microsoft's Anastasia Passaris announced the feature in a Tech Community post and outlined how to use the feature:

The company is rolling out KB5063060 (build number 26100.4351) to gamers on Windows 11 version 24H2. Today's update is aimed at users who have games with Easy Anti-Cheat, a service that is part of certain games to combat cheaters and improve security.

According to Microsoft, the June 2025 security update for Windows 11 version 24H2 has compatibility issues with Easy Anti-Cheat, which, in turn, causes the operating system to restart. Here is what Microsoft says in the release notes:

• [Fix for incompatibility issue with Easy Anti-Cheat] This update addresses an incompatibility issue where Windows might restart unexpectedly when opening games that use the Easy Anti-Cheat service. Easy Anti-Cheat automatically installs with certain games to enhance security and prevent cheating in multiplayer online PC games.

While the issue sounds rough, the bug likely did not affect many users. In the release notes, Microsoft adds that KB5060842, this month's security update for Windows 11, was not available to users with games that utilize Easy Anti-Cheat. Now, however, thanks to KB5063060, they can get the latest security updates and fixes. The update is cumulative, which means it contains all the updates that were released before.

Interestingly, this is not the only issue that Windows 11 version 24H2 has with Easy Anti-Cheat. There is a known bug where PCs with Intel Alder Lake+ and vPro chips crash upon launching games that utilize this anti-cheat solution. This compatibility hold remains standing, and Microsoft says you can mitigate it by updating your games to more recent versions with newer Easy Anti-Cheat releases.

KB5060842 is now rolling out via Windows Update. It is also available in the Microsoft Update Catalog via this link.

"This update is being gradually rolled out to devices running Windows 11, version 24H2. We've identified a compatibility issue affecting a limited set of these devices," the company said in a Twitter thread.

"If your device is affected, you'll receive a revised update with all the June 2025 security improvements in the near term."

In a message center update on Tuesday, Redmond added that "the June 2025 security update is fully available for all other supported versions of Windows."

Microsoft has yet to disclose the hardware or software configurations affected by the compatibility issue that prompted the release of a revised security update and how the affected PCs were impacted after installing this month's Patch Tuesday cumulative updates.

Also, the company didn't share if this was the first time it released a revised Patch Tuesday update to address compatibility issues and if this is something customers can expect from Microsoft in the future.

A Microsoft spokesperson was not immediately available for comment when contacted by BleepingComputer earlier today.

On Tuesday, Microsoft released security updates (KB5060842 and KB5060999) for 66 vulnerabilities in Windows 11 24H2 and 23H2, including one actively exploited Web Distributed Authoring and Versioning (WebDAV) zero-day (CVE-2025-33053) and a publicly disclosed Windows SMB privilege escalation flaw.

This month's Patch Tuesday Windows updates addressed ten critical vulnerabilities, eight allowing attackers to gain remote code execution on unpatched devices and two enabling them to escalate privileges.

KB5060842 also resolves a Windows Hello issue preventing users from signing in with self-signed certificates and extends system restore points availability up to 60 days on Windows 11 24H2 devices, while KB5060999 fixes a graphics support issue blocking Remote Desktop connections with "session has ended" and "remote desktop connection cannot be established" errors.

The same day, Microsoft released the KB5060533 Windows 10 22H2 cumulative update, which brings seconds back to the time shown in the Calendar flyout and fixes an issue causing Hyper-V virtual machines with Windows 10, Windows 11, and Windows Server to freeze or restart unexpectedly.

Rufus notes that Wimlib’s integration speeds up the Windows ISO processing, reducing waiting times during image analysis. This boost in speed is said to be particularly noticeable when creating Windows To Go drives, although if you have a "crap" drive, it is best not to expect "miracles".

For those wondering, Wimlib is an open source library for creating, extracting, and modifying Windows Imaging (WIM) archives, and it is cross platform too.

Another key update in Rufus 4.8 is the introduction of file splitting for files over 4GB using the Alt-E key, for managing larger installation files; however, performance gains in this area are still modest when compared to the UEFI:NTFS handling.

On the development side, Rufus 4.8 has moved exclusively to Visual Studio binaries. The full changelog is given below:

• Switch to wimlib for all WIM image processing:

   

  • Greatly speeds up image analysis when opening Windows ISOs

  • Can speed up Windows To Go drive creation

  • Might help with Parallels limitations on Mac (But Rufus on Parallels is still unsupported)

• Improve reporting of UEFI bootloaders in the log, with info on the Secure Boot status

• Fix an issue with size limitations when writing an uncompressed VHD back to the same drive

• Fix a crash when opening the log with the 32-bit MinGW compiled version

• Fix commandline parameters not being forwarded to original Windows setup.exe

PowerToys has quietly become the Swiss Army knife of Windows 11. However, the best tools aren't always front and center. While many people may know about FancyZones, Color Picker, Peek, and PowerToys Run (being replaced by Command Palette), some capabilities are less known and sometimes buried deeper, unlocked only when you know where to look.

After digging into this utility, I found three underrated features worth mentioning, including the ability to back up and restore your custom configurations, plugin support, and logs that always come in handy for troubleshooting problems.

In this how-to guide, I'll show you the three (underrated) features available in PowerToys for Windows 11.

Secret features available in the PowerToys app

These are the three features you wish you had known sooner, which are most specific to the application and outside the regular set of features.

1. Backup and restore

PowerToys includes a backup feature that allows you to save and load your custom configurations for the utilities, which can come in handy when switching computers, reinstalling the operating system, reverting to a previous configuration, or sharing your configuration with others.

Usually, users miss this feature because they go directly into enabling and configuring the different tools that PowerToys has to offer.

To set up a backup of your PowerToys configurations, use these steps:

In the announcement post, the company says this tool is quicker and easier to edit than the timeline for videos with a lot of spoken content or dialogue. These include meeting recordings (cut those off-topic discussions or "your mic is off" exclamations or other technical issues), webinars and presentations (remove filler words, trim lengthy Q&A sessions, etc.), and podcasts (good for deleting mistakes or other unwanted content).

You can try the new feature by opening a video in Clipchamp and selecting the Transcript tab on the right side of the editor. Click "Generate transcript," and once the app has generated it, select portions of text you want to delete.

Microsoft adds that the Transcript tab will replace the Captions tab in the Property panel. However, the app still allows you to edit and download captions by clicking the CC button.

The new transcript editing tool will be available to Clipchamp users with work accounts this month. Later, Microsoft will release the feature to users with personal accounts as well. You can read more about the transcript-based video editing in Clipchamp in the announcement post on the official Tech Community website.

In case you missed it, at the beginning of this year, Microsoft announced a series of new features that are coming soon to Clipchamp. They include dark and light mode, improved asset grouping, a cleaner video editor, precise editing with timestamps, and more. Change folder color in OneDrive on Windows

The process is very simple, but it is not the same as changing a folder icon in File Explorer. While you can change the icon of any folder in OneDrive on Windows 11 (Right Click > Properties > Customize > Change Icon), these icons do not sync across platforms. At the same time, while OneDrive folder colors do sync, the feature is not available for personal accounts in the web version of OneDrive. As for mobile devices, it is coming soon to Android and iOS OneDrive clients.

Despite the current limitations, here is how to change folder colors in OneDrive on Windows:

1. Make sure OneDrive is set up and running and sync is not paused.
2. Find the folder whose color you want to change, and right-click it.
3. Select OneDrive > Folder Color.

   

4. Pick one of the 16 colors available and click Ok.
5. The OneDrive app will sync your changes so that they appear across all devices that support folder colors in OneDrive.

If you have a business account, you can open OneDrive for the web, right-click any folder and select Folder Color. Changes will sync across your devices right away.

The Start menu on Windows 11 is about to get a major upgrade, and you can try it right now. Windows Insiders in the Dev Channel can now test the new Start menu in Windows 11.

The refreshed Start menu brings the "All" section forward, making it easier to access. There are two views for that section: category and grid view.

Category view is the default. It automatically groups apps, much like the experience you'd have on some smartphones.

Grid view sorts apps alphabetically and takes advantage of the Start menu’s expanded size.

The Start menu now adapts to your screen size, expanding to up to eight columns of pinned apps, six recommendations, and four columns of categories.

The Pinned and Recommended sections of the Start menu are responsive as well, meaning they'll shrink or expand depending on how much you have pinned to Start.

You can now hide the Recommended section within the Start menu.

The Start menu on Windows 11 has received a fair bit of criticism over the years. Windows Phone and Live Tile enthusiasts disliked the shift to static icons.

 

Even those who liked the general interface were faced with a recommended section that could not be disabled. That feature gap is closed with the refreshed Start menu.

 

You can now turn off recommendations entirely. Previously, the recommended section remained even if you disabled its contents.

 

Our Senior Editor Zac Bowden went hands-on with the new Start menu before the experience was officially announced.

 

 

The Start menu also gained a powerful new tool for cross-device integration. People with connected Android or iOS devices can have content synced from their smartphone to an add-on of the Start menu.

 

That functionality, which works through Phone Link, is already generally available in most areas, though it will ship to the European Economic Area at a future date.

 

The same build of Windows 11 that brings the new Start menu to the Dev Channel also gives you the option to choose which Lock screen widgets appear. Microsoft outlines all the changes to the build in an Insider blog post.

The updated menu now features a single-page view, with all your pins and apps on one scrollable page. You can change the list of all apps between three variants: list, grid, and category. More importantly, you can now hide the recommended section in the Start menu settings (one of the most requested Start menu-related changes).

The new Start menu is available in this week's Dev and Beta update. However, like always, Microsoft is rolling out changes gradually, which means you might not have the lucky ticket even on the latest build. If you do not want to wait, you can force-enable the new Start menu and its Phone Link button using a few commands in the ViVeTool app. Here is how to do that:

1. Download ViveTool from GitHub and unpack the files in a convenient and easy-to-find folder.
2. Run Command Prompt as Administrator and navigate to the folder containing the ViveTool files with the CD command. For example, if you have placed ViveTool in C:\Vive, type CD C:\Vive.
3. Type vivetool /enable /id:47205210,49221331,49381526,49402389,49820095,55495322,48433719 and press Enter.
4. Restart your computer.

As usual, keep in mind that stuff in preview builds is less stable, so be aware of the risks of running preview builds. While Microsoft is not saying when the new Start menu will be available to all users, it will probably not take too long before it shows up in Release Preview and non-security updates.

Over time the company has expanded the block list for Outlook for the Web and also the New Outlook for Windows app. In a new message via the Microsoft 365 Admin Center portal, the company has announced that two more such file types will be added. However, the tech giant feels this should not affect most users, as these "newly blocked file types are rarely used." It writes:

"As part of our ongoing efforts to enhance security in Outlook Web and the New Outlook for Windows, we’re updating the default list of blocked file types in OwaMailboxPolicy. Starting in early July 2025, the following file types will be added to the BlockedFileTypes list:

• .library-ms
• .search-ms"

For admins, Microsoft says that no action is required if their respective organisations do not rely on the aforementioned file attachments. However, if they are still in use, then admins can "add them to the AllowedFileTypes property of your users’ OwaMailboxPolicy objects before the rollout." Speaking of which, this is set as a "major change" with the rollout expected to start in early July 2025.

But the house cleaning does not stop with those two. Neowin has spotted a shutdown notice dated June 26, 2025 for Deep Fake Detector, the Firefox extension that was supposed to tell you if a piece of text was written by a human or an AI chatbot. That tool used a combination of Mozilla's own proprietary ApolloDFT engine and open-source models like ZipPy to give you a verdict on what you were reading.

The notice says:

** Important Update: Deepfake Detector will shut down on June 26, 2025. **

On June 26, you will no longer be able to use Deepfake Detector. Thanks for supporting our journey.

This brings us to the AI tools. Following the pattern, the Orbit website was updated with a banner that announced the service would shut down by June 26. Orbit was Mozilla's big privacy-first experiment in AI. It was a Firefox add-on that could summarize articles and answer questions about a webpage's content without sending your data to a third party.

Orbit's private, self-contained setup can be replaced with the new sidebar built directly into Firefox, letting you connect to third-party chatbots like ChatGPT and Gemini. But, for Orbit users, this is still a huge loss, as a key feature of the service was privacy. Your prompts were handled by Mistral LLM (Mistral 7B) within Mozilla's GCP instance and were not shared with other companies for model training.

Mozilla keeps saying these cuts are necessary. As the only major browser not owned by a tech giant, its resources are limited; hence, the need to focus its cash and engineering talent on the core Firefox browser to compete.

Arm says that users are now spending over 90% of their time on Windows on Arm PCs using natively compiled Arm-based apps on Windows 11, a huge improvement over prior years.

With the launch of Snapdragon-powered Copilot+ PCs last year, it appears Windows on Arm is finally getting its moment in the spotlight. Developers are now taking the platform seriously, with over 100 popular and mainstream Windows apps now natively compiled for Arm.

"The application experience on Windows on Arm is no longer about checking for compatibility. It’s about unlocking better performance, longer battery life, and more intelligent features across the board," says Arm in a blog posted on May 16.

Some of the best native Windows on Arm apps include Google Chrome, WhatsApp, Davinci Resolve, Adobe Photoshop, Spotify, Microsoft Office, Slack, and many more. Pretty much all mainstream browsers now support Windows on Arm, as do most messaging apps.

Even in cases where an app isn't natively compiled for Arm, recent improvements to the x86 emulation layer mean even non-native apps run well on the latest Copilot+ PCs from Snapdragon. We are in a new era for Windows on Arm PCs, one where app compatibility issues are at an all-time low.

• Overwatch 2 (DX12) may experience an application crash while launching the game with High or Ultra graphics quality settings.

Known bugs in the drive include the following:

• Intel Arc B-Series Graphics Products:
  • Fortnite may experience an application crash when “Performance - Lower Graphical Fidelity” is selected as Rendering Mode. Recommendation is to use default Rendering Mode – DX12.
  • Visual corruptions may appear in certain scenarios with multiple application interactions.

The updated macOS design is all over the place, including the Dock, sidebars, and toolbars, which have been refined to focus more on the user's content. Apple continued its annual tradition and introduced new wallpapers custom-made for macOS 26 Tahoe to go along with the new design language.

These macOS Tahoe 26 wallpapers are available in light and dark theme options, complementing the transparent menu bar, which makes the display feel bigger. To download the wallpapers to your device, click on the image to open it, then right-click on the wallpaper and select "Save Image As."

 

 

Apple said during the announcement that "the new design also unlocks more personalization on the Mac. App icons come to life in light or dark appearances, colorful new light and dark tints, as well as an elegant new clear look."

Apple's Liquid Design-inspired default wallpapers are also available for iOS 26 in light and dark options. The company has utilised Liquid Design extensively when upgrading the wallpaper experience on iPhones.

 

 

Lock Screen wallpapers on iPhone create a 3D effect when the device is moved around, giving the illusion that the objects in the image are popping out of the screen. The time displayed on the lock screen fluidly adapts to the available space in an image for a more dynamic feel.

Not just the design, Apple has further bridged the gap between iPhone and Mac by adding new Continuity features to macOS 26 on these supported Mac models. This includes the new Phone app that lets you relay phone calls from your iPhone nearby. Just like widgets, macOS 26 can populate Live Activities from a nearby iPhone, enabling you to track your Uber ride, live sports scores, or incoming dinner orders.

The new Start menu features several changes that make it easier to launch your favorite app. It no longer uses a two-page view, focusing on a single scrollable view instead. At the top, you have your pins, then the Recommended section (you can now turn it off completely), and a list of all apps presented as a grid or categories.

Also, the Start menu is now more adaptive, which means users with bigger displays will have a larger Start menu to display more apps (up to eight columns of pinned apps, six recommendations, and four category columns). Finally, it has a new button that lets you expand or collapse the Phone Link pane.

By the way, you can check out this article if you want to take a look at other Start menu variants that Microsoft considered when working on the new Start menu.

Other changes in build 26200.5641 include the ability to select what widgets appear on the lock screen and the so-called Screen Curtain for Narrator. The latter blacks out the display, keeping the content of the screen available only to those using the Narrator. You can turn on or off the Screen curtain by pressing Caps Lock + Ctrl + C. Also, Narrator now has a new welcome experience that guides users through its features and recent changes.

The Settings page is getting two sections fused into one: Searching in Windows and Search Permissions are now just Search in the Privacy & Security section. The gamepad keyboard now has improved navigation and improved focus handling for child keys, flyout menus, word suggestions, language switching, settings, etc. It also works on the lock screen when you have to enter your PIN.

Here are other fixes that Microsoft is rolling out gradually to Windows Insiders:

[General]

• This build should fix an underlying issue in the previous flight which was causing input to not work for some Insiders, including when typing into Search, and with the Chinese pinyin IME candidate window, clipboard history, and the emoji panel.

[Recall (Preview)]

• The following fixes are rolling out for Recall on Copilot+ PCs:
• Fixed an issue causing Recall to crash for some Insiders in the last couple flights.

[Taskbar]

• Fixed an issue where in some cases taskbar icons might appear small even though the setting to show smaller taskbar buttons was configured as “never”.

[File Explorer]

• Fixed an issue where restoring a File Explorer search result from Recall would open File Explorer but not show your search string.

[Windowing]

• Fixed an issue where ALT + Tabbing out of a full screen game could lead to other windows freezing (like Windows Terminal).

[Login and lock]

• Fixed an issue causing the lock screen to crash for some Insiders in the previous flight.

[Graphics]

• Fixed an issue causing some displays to be unexpectedly green after the latest flights.

[Settings]

• Fixed an underlying issue which could lead to the Settings window hanging and no longer responding to input or resizing unless you closed and reopened it.
• Fixed an issue in System > Display, where if UAC was set to Always Notify and you tried to click the button to do color calibration for your display and cancelled, it would crash Settings.
• Fixed an issue in System > Display, where a chevron might display for Brightness even if there were no additional settings to display.
• Fixed an issue where if you changed to a custom mouse cursor in Accessibility > Mouse pointer and touch, it could make Settings crash.

There is also a single fix that is rolling out to everyone right here, right now:

[General]

• We fixed the issue where you might see severe discoloration when connecting your PC to some older Dolby Vision displays.

Here are the known bugs in both Dev and Beta Channels:

• After you do a PC reset under Settings > System > Recovery, your build version may incorrectly show as Build 26100 instead of Build 26120. This will not prevent you from getting future Beta Channel updates, which will resolve this issue.

• [NEW] Some Windows Insiders may experience a rollback trying to install this update with a 0x80070005 in Windows Update. We’re working on a fix for the next flight.

   

[Start menu]

• The following are known issues for Windows Insiders with the new Start menu:
• [NEW] Using touch to navigate the new Start menu may not work reliably. For example, it currently does not support the swipe-up gesture.
• [NEW] Drag and drop capabilities are limited from “All” to “Pinned.”
• [NEW] In some cases, duplicate entries may appear in folders on the Start menu.

[Xbox Controllers]

• Some Insiders are experiencing an issue where using their Xbox Controller via Bluetooth is causing their PC to bugcheck. Here is how to resolve the issue. Open Device Manager by searching for it via the search box on your taskbar. Once Device Manager is open, click on “View” and then “Devices by Driver”. Find the driver named “oemXXX.inf (XboxGameControllerDriver.inf)” where the “XXX” will be a specific number on your PC. Right-click on that driver and click “Uninstall”.

[Click to Do (Preview)]

The following known issues will be fixed in future updates to Windows Insiders:

• Windows Insiders on AMD or Intel-powered Copilot+ PCs may experience long wait times on the first attempt to perform intelligent text actions in Click to Do after a new build or model update.

[Improved Windows Search]

[REMINDER] For improved Windows Search on Copilot+ PCs, it is recommended that you plug in your Copilot+ PC for the initial search indexing to get completed. You can check your search indexing status under Settings > Privacy & security > Searching Windows.

[File Explorer]

The following are known issues for AI actions in File Explorer:

• Narrator scan mode may not work properly in the action result canvas window for the Summarize AI action for Microsoft 365 files when reading bulleted lists. As a workaround, you can use Caps + Right key to navigate.

[Widgets]

• Until we complete support for pinning in the new widgets board experience, pinning reverts you back to the previous experience

Note that the Dev build has two more known issues:

• The option to reset your PC under Settings > System > Recovery will not work on this build.
• We’re investigating an issue causing a small number of Insiders to experience repeated bugchecks with KERNEL_SECURITY_CHECK_FAILURE after upgrading to most current Dev Channel builds.

• MacBook Pro 13-inch 2020 (four Thunderbolt 3 ports) and newer
• MacBook Pro 16-inch 2019
• iMac 2020 and newer
• Mac mini 2020 and newer
• Mac Studio 2022 and newer
• Mac Pro 2019 and newer

Note that although Apple still supports Intel-based Macs, not all features will be available on systems that do not have Apple Silicon chips. Now-unsupported Macs that cannot upgrade from macOS Sequoia to macOS Tahoe are the following computers with Intel processors:

• Intel-based iMac 2019
• Intel-based Mac mini 2018
• iMac Pro
• Intel-based MacBook Air 2020
• Intel-based MacBook Pro 2018

macOS 26 Tahoe is now available for developers to try in the beta program. Apple plans to launch the first public beta in July, alongside the release of public betas of iOS 26, iPadOS 26, and other operating systems that the company announced earlier today.

Let's talk about this new design, because it is the first thing you will notice. Apple is taking the translucent, layered look from its visionOS and bringing it everywhere. It is a fundamental change to how macOS looks and feels, which some Neowin readers are definitely not a fan of. Sidebars, toolbars, and menus all have this frosted glass effect, where their color and texture shift based on the window or wallpaper behind them. The menu bar is now completely transparent, and Apple is also adding more customization. You can now change the color of folders, which is a feature people have wanted for nearly forever, and add little symbols or emojis to them.

The bigger story for day-to-day use might be how much tighter the Mac and iPhone are becoming. Last year, macOS Sequoia saw the release of apps like the dedicated Passwords app, and this year, with Tahoe, we get a full-blown Phone app on the Mac. It is not just for getting call notifications anymore. You can see your recent calls, check your voicemail, and access your contacts list just like you would on your iPhone. New features like Call Screening, which can figure out who is calling before you answer, are also included. Live Activities from your iPhone, like the status of an Uber ride or a food delivery, will now show up right in your Mac's menu bar.

Spotlight search is also getting a massive update. For years, Spotlight has been a simple tool for finding files and launching apps. Now, Apple is trying to turn it into an action center. You will be able to perform tasks directly from the search results, like creating a new note or sending an email, without ever opening the corresponding application. The search results themselves are supposed to be smarter and are no longer separated into rigid categories. Everything just shows up in one big list, ranked by what the system thinks is most relevant to you.

Despite Apple's ongoing AI challenges, Apple Intelligence is getting new abilities. The AI features introduced last year are being expanded. A new Live Translation feature can translate text in Messages or audio during a phone call or FaceTime, all on the device, to maintain privacy. The Shortcuts app is also getting more powerful. You can now build automations that tap directly into Apple's AI models to do more complex tasks, like summarizing an audio recording of a lecture and comparing it to your typed notes.

And yes, Apple is still trying to make gaming on the Mac a serious thing. A new dedicated app called Apple Games is being introduced. It acts as a central library for all your games, similar to launchers you might see on a PC. It also includes a new Game Overlay, which lets you mess with system settings or chat with friends without leaving your game. Apple announced that titles like Cyberpunk 2077, Crimson Desert, and Lies of P: Overture are on their way to the platform.

Other mainstays are getting refreshed as well. Safari has a redesigned tab layout, Messages is getting polls, and the Journal app is finally making its way from the iPhone to the Mac.

The first developer beta for macOS Tahoe is available today, June 9, 2025. A public beta is expected to follow next month, with the final version being released for free to everyone with a compatible Mac this fall.

1. System Restore

System Restore is a feature that allows you to revert your computer's system files, installed apps, Registry, and system settings to a previous point in time using restore points.

It's designed as a troubleshooting tool to help you recover from problems caused by recent software installations, driver updates, or system configuration changes without affecting your data.

Notepad is one of those classic apps that stayed virtually unchanged for decades. For years, Microsoft shipped only minor tweaks and small improvements, with little attention to its development.

The real transformation began with the release of Windows 11 when the company finally started upgrading the Notepad interface. The app received a visual overhaul that introduced acrylic effects, rounded corners, and dark mode, along with functional enhancements like auto-save and a tabbed interface.

Apple announced a new version of macOS during its WWDC 2025 keynote presentation. The new update, expected later this year, is called macOS 26 Tahoe. Upon release this fall, Tahoe will be available for M-series Mac Pros, Mac Studios, MacBook Pros, and MacBook Airs, with early access to a beta test starting next month.

While Apple is sticking with California-themed names in Tahoe, this marks the first time Apple is numbering macOS to align with its yearly update schedule — with 26 replacing last year’s macOS 15. The year is of course 2025 right now, but most of macOS 26’s time in the limelight will be during 2026. (Think of it like the model year of cars, which never gets confusing.)

Last year’s macOS 15 Sequoia was also first announced at WWDC, and it gave Mac users new features like iPhone mirroring, proper window tiling, and access to Apple Intelligence.
