	Microsoft has released a non-security update for Windows 11 versions 24H2 and 25H2 that introduces an unusual bug affecting one of the operating system’s most essential utilities.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	The update, designated as KB5067036, is causing Task Manager to continue running in the background even after users close the application. This issue has been officially acknowledged by Microsoft as a known problem in the latest optional update.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	The KB5067036 update is part of Microsoft’s routine maintenance releases designed to improve functionality, performance, and reliability across Windows 11 systems.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	This particular update falls under the category of optional non-security preview releases, which are typically made available during the fourth week of each month.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	These updates allow users to receive new features and improvements ahead of the mandatory security updates that roll out on the second Tuesday of every month, commonly known as Patch Tuesday.
</p>

<p>
	<br />
	<span style="font-size:24px;"><strong>What the Update Brings to Windows 11</strong></span>
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	The update includes various improvements to AI components for Copilot Plus PC experiences, with enhanced versions of Image Search, Content Extraction, Semantic Analysis, and Settings Model.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	Additionally, it contains a servicing stack update designated as KB5067035, which ensures that devices can properly receive and install future Windows updates. The servicing stack is a critical component that maintains the reliability and robustness of the Windows update system.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	According to Microsoft’s official documentation, Task Manager may continue operating in the background after users attempt to close the application.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	This behavior represents a disruption from normal functionality, where closing Task Manager should completely terminate the process.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	The issue affects both Windows 11 version 24H2 and the newer 25H2 release, indicating that the problem spans multiple current Windows versions.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	Task Manager is a crucial system utility that allows users to monitor running applications, track system performance, manage startup programs, and terminate unresponsive processes.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	Having it continue running in the background could potentially consume system resources unnecessarily and may cause confusion for users who expect the application to fully close when dismissed.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	The KB5067036 update is available through Windows Update as an optional download. Users can access it by navigating to Start, then Settings, followed by Update and Security, and finally Windows Update.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	The update appears in the Optional Updates Available section, where users can choose to download and install it. For users who install the update and encounter issues, Microsoft has provided removal instructions.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	However, there is an important limitation: while the cumulative update can be removed using the DISM command-line tool with the Remove-Package option, the servicing stack update cannot be removed once installed.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	Users cannot use the Windows Update Standalone Installer with the uninstall switch on the combined package, as this method will not work for packages that include servicing stack updates.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	Microsoft continues to monitor feedback and typically addresses known issues in subsequent updates. Users experiencing the Task Manager problem may want to wait for a resolution before installing this optional update.
</p>

	Linus Torvalds, the founder of the <a automate_uuid="8066943e-a37b-4d69-8030-cc929786c8f5" href="https://www.neowin.net/news/linux-618-sees-large-second-release-candidate-but-everything-is-on-track/" rel="external nofollow">Linux kernel</a>, has announced the release of Linux 6.18-rc4. He declared that this week felt “calm and pretty normal” and that it’s “on schedule and doing fine.” This is really good news because it is more likely that the release will be on November 30, instead of December 7 after an eighth release candidate.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	The eccentric kernel maintainer did mention that the fourth release candidate was cut a few hours early because he had to catch a plane to attend a conference. He said that this should not have affected anything except “slight timing oddities.”
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	Paradoxically, while the week was described as feeling calm, the volume and location of changes were “very normal”. Most of the work was dedicated to routine driver fixes with GPU, networking, and sound drivers being the categories that received the most attention.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	Aside from drivers, there were also fixes in core networking and filesystems (smb and xfs), core kernel scheduler improvements (sched_ext), and architecture fixes for s390 and x86. Torvalds said that none of the changes this week are very scary and more are trivial one- and few-liners.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	While <a automate_uuid="748ffc1c-bd36-4f73-ba3b-6303004f7840" href="https://www.neowin.net/news/linux-618-rc3-released-and-everything-still-looks-normal/" rel="external nofollow">Linux 6.18</a> looks to be <a automate_uuid="d8a75197-c4a9-4db8-907d-3799dc55560d" href="https://lkml.org/lkml/2025/11/2/371" rel="external nofollow">shaping up nicely</a> and it seems we will get it on time, things look a bit less reassuring for Linux 6.19. Two big events that are expected to complicate the next development cycle are the yearly kernel maintainer summit and associated travel, which take place during the merge window, and the holiday season later in the release.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	With this, Torvalds anticipates that Linux 6.19 will be dragged out by an extra week to account for the lost time. This plan is reliant on the fact that no delays happen with Linux 6.18, if they do, things can still change.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	Once Linux 6.18 is out, it’ll be up to distribution maintainers to publish it as an update for their users. Some of those on Fedora or rolling releases should expect it within a few weeks of launch while other distributions may make people wait substantially longer or until a new version arrives.
</p>

</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	Microsoft last month released the Windows 11 2025 update (version 25H2) and following that, it announced that the feature update was rolling out to <a automate_uuid="73974786-3f67-4126-a79e-a771d95388e1" href="https://www.neowin.net/news/microsoft-lets-every-windows-10-and-11-user-upgrade-to-windows-11-25h2-on-supported-pcs/" rel="external nofollow">everyone be it on Windows 11 or 10 on supported systems</a>.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	Since the launch of the update, Microsoft has made several major announcements for office and enterprise PCs as well. The most recent announcement of such nature happened in the second half of last month as the tech giant revealed a full list of 36 new settings IT administrators can use to manage and deploy various features on enterprise-managed Windows 11 25H2 systems. You can check out the <a automate_uuid="daf2d302-d116-4d31-a2ce-684a6c0a497e" href="https://www.neowin.net/news/microsoft-shares-full-list-of-new-windows-11-25h2-settings-for-office-pcs/" rel="external nofollow">full list in its dedicated article here</a>.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	Of course, if you are an IT admin and are looking to install Windows 11 25H2 on your devices you do need to be mindful of when you proceed with the installation in case <a automate_uuid="70842852-13ad-490c-9826-b2e5ed84a1ce" href="https://www.neowin.net/news/microsoft-issues-important-windows-11-25h2-installation-caution-for-office-pcs/" rel="external nofollow">you are hotpatching</a>.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	Aside from these, Microsoft has also made another important change for office and enterprise systems for Windows 11 25H2 installations, though it applies to those who use some of these features at home too. The company has confirmed that it is no longer possible to successfully authenticate devices on NTLM and Kerberos with duplicate computer SIDs (security identifiers) on Windows 11 2025 update. Neowin noticed this new document. The change applies to Windows 11 24H2 as well since the two versions share a <a automate_uuid="bd2ba95d-f64a-404a-a199-c916875df647" href="https://www.neowin.net/news/kb5054156-microsoft-explains-how-easy-upgrading-to-windows-11-25h2-from-24h2-is/" rel="external nofollow">common servicing branch and codebase</a>.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	Microsoft notes that users will be noticing the following issues including problems accessing shared network drives and such:
</p>

<p>

</p>

<ul>
	<li>
		Users are repeatedly prompted for credentials.
	</li>
	<li>
		Access requests with valid credentials fail with on-screen errors, such as:
		<ul>
			<li>
				Login attempt failed.
			</li>
			<li>
				Login failed/your credentials didn't work.
			</li>
			<li>
				There is a partial mismatch in the machine ID.
			</li>
			<li>
				The username or password is incorrect.
			</li>
		</ul>
	</li>
	<li>
		Shared network folders cannot be accessed via IP address or hostname.
	</li>
	<li>
		Remote desktop connections cannot be established, including Remote Desktop Protocol (RDP) sessions initiated through Privileged Access Management (PAM) solutions or third-party tools.
	</li>
	<li>
		Failover Clustering fails with an "access denied" error.
	</li>
	<li>
		Event Viewer might display one of the following errors in the Windows logs:
		<ul>
			<li>
				The Security log contains the SEC_E_NO_CREDENTIALS error.
			</li>
			<li>
				The System log contains Local Security Authority Server Service (lsasrv.dll) Event ID: 6167 with the message text: There is a partial mismatch in the machine ID. This indicates that the ticket has either been manipulated or it belongs to a different boot session.
			</li>
		</ul>
	</li>
</ul>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	This is actually a new security enforcement made to prevent unathorized access to potentially restricted files that could previously be accessed on another system using a duplicated SID. Microsoft has recommended admins and users alike to use Sysprep, a native Windows tool, to ensure SID uniqueness when doing OS cloning and duplication tasks on Windows 11, versions 24H2 and 25H2, and Windows Server 2025.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	If you are wondering how Sysprep helps, it essentially "generalizes" a Windows image thus removing duplicated SIDs and unique PC-specific information from a Windows installation. You can find the support article <a automate_uuid="de6e4a67-6caa-4d45-9339-ddc93b87ab32" href="https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/topic/kerberos-and-ntlm-authentication-failures-due-to-duplicate-sids-76f7394d-c460-4882-9ed1-d27e0960f949" rel="external nofollow">here</a> under KB5070568 on Microsoft's official site.

	Microsoft has finally confirmed a serious update mistake affecting Windows 10 and Windows 11 users. It has now issued a fix. This comes after multiple emergency updates and issues were confirmed through October. A month that also saw Microsoft bring Windows 10 to an end, stopping security updates for millions of users.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	This latest fix resolves a long-standing issue where selecting “update and shut down” on a Windows 10 or Windows 11 PC would “update and restart” instead. Per Windows Latest, “starting with Windows 11 25H2 Build 26200.7019, and newer, your PC will finally shut down when you explicitly choose ‘update and shut down’.”
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	The Windows specialists describe this as a “decades-old bug,” albeit it’s unclear when it first began to affect users. What is clear is that “it affects Windows 11 and 10, and is one of the most reported issues. Microsoft shipped a broken ‘update and shut down’ toggle with Windows 10, and it never acknowledged it until now.”
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p style="text-align:center;">
	<img alt="960x0.jpg?format=jpg&amp;width=1440" class="ipsImage" data-ratio="75.10" height="460" width="720" src="https://imageio.forbes.com/specials-images/imageserve/6907124cc7bf996b1a024883/Screenshot-from-report/960x0.jpg?format=jpg&amp;width=1440" />
</p>

<p style="text-align:center;">
	<span style="font-size:12px;">Update and Shut Down — Windows update mistake resolved.<br />
	Windows Latest</span>
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	While this might be little more than an inconvenience for desktop users, it’s a very different matter if it happens to your laptop. “When it’s 11 PM and there’s a pending Windows Update. I’d select update and shut down, and go to bed, but the next morning, Windows would be on the login screen if its battery didn’t drain out.”
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	The two different options appear side-by-side, so it’s easy for users to assume they have selected the restart option instead of the shut down option by mistake. Now Microsoft has confirmed “the October 2025 optional update (KB5067036) finally fixes it.”
</p>

<p>
	This isn’t the only update change that Microsoft has just confirmed for Windows users. As spotted by Neowin, “Microsoft is making Windows updates simpler and 'more intuitive’.” This means updates will have more "user-friendly" names rather than then jumble of numbers and codes that users have waded through until now.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	Microsoft explains “to further enrich the user experience, we’re introducing a simplified and standardized titling system for a range of updates. This new format is designed primarily with the user in mind. Titles are more intuitive, consistent, and informative to help users quickly understand what updates they’re receiving.”
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	<img alt="960x0.jpg?format=jpg&amp;width=1440" class="ipsImage" data-ratio="75.10" height="482" width="720" src="https://imageio.forbes.com/specials-images/imageserve/6907126ffa0a795174e9bfde/Screenshot-from-update/960x0.jpg?format=jpg&amp;width=1440" />
</p>

<p>
	<span style="font-size:12px;">New update names confirmed.<br />
	Microsoft</span>
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	Microsoft provides examples of the new, updates titles here. “We’ve removed unnecessary technical elements such as platform architecture or date prefixes, while keeping identifiers like the KB number and build or version.”
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	Unfortunately, not all Windows update mistakes have been fixed. Windows Latest also warns that “Microsoft admits a long-standing Windows 11 driver 0x80070103 error, and says it can’t fully fix the issue.” An October 2025 patch does make this less acute.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	The issue occurs when installing a driver that’s already on the PC. Windows Update shows 0x800f0983. “Microsoft officials previously told users to ignore error 0x800f0983 because there’s nothing you can do. One of the workarounds is to reset Windows, but what if you come across the same error again?”
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	Hopefully, it won’t now affect you.
</p>

	Along with the setup and recovery updates (<a automate_uuid="7a15c270-d350-47e5-b342-a07f4ae7a660" href="https://www.neowin.net/news/microsoft-released-windows-11-kb5068516-kb5067040-setup-and-recovery-updates/" rel="external nofollow">KB5068516, KB5067040</a>), Microsoft has also released a new OOBE (out of box experience) update for the latest couple of Windows 11 versions,ie, for 25H2 and 24H2. The OOBE is the initial OS setup that happens immediately after Windows completes its installation course. As always, Microsoft has published a general changelog as writes in the support article:
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p style="margin-left: 40px;">
	"<strong>KB5070349</strong>: Out of Box Experience update for Windows 11, version 24H2 and 25H2, and Windows Server 2025: October 28, 2025
</p>

<p style="margin-left: 40px;">

</p>

<p style="margin-left: 80px;">
	This update improves the Windows 11, version 24H2 and 25H2, and Windows Server 2025 out-of-box experience (OOBE). This update applies only to the Windows OOBE process and is available only when OOBE updates are installed."
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	These OOBE updates will install automatically during setup if the user has an active internet connection.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	In a separate document about OOBE, Microsoft explained what these OOBE updates deliver. It also notes that the downloading and installation time of the update depends on the users' hardware and internet connectivity.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	It says that during the Out‑of‑Box Experience (OOBE), Windows automatically downloads and installs critical driver updates and zero‑day patches (ZDPs) once the device is connected to a network. These updates are mandatory to ensure proper device functionality and cannot be declined. Users are notified when the system is checking for and applying them.
</p>

<p>

	If a newer Windows version is available than the one pre‑installed, the device may also receive the latest Windows updates during the final stages of OOBE, depending on the OS build. In such cases, the update package is downloaded and installed before setup completes, ensuring the device starts with the most current security and feature set available.

Alongside those the company also released new accompanying dynamic updates (A new OOBE update under <a automate_uuid="5f57c2bb-a91a-4497-8d1d-c547ca017e5d" href="https://www.neowin.net/news/microsoft-released-windows-11-kb5070349-oobe-initial-os-setup-update-for-25h2-24h2/" rel="external nofollow">KB5070349</a> has also been released).
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	For those who may not know, dynamic updates bring improvements to the Windows Recovery in the form of Windows Recovery Environment (WinRE) updates, also called Safe OS updates, as well as to the Setup binaries in the form of Setup updates.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	These Dynamic Update packages are meant to be applied to existing Windows images prior to their deployment. These packages include fixes to Setup.exe binaries, SafeOS updates for Windows Recovery Environment, and more. Dynamic Updates also help preserve Language Pack (LP) and Features on Demand (FODs) content during the upgrade process. VBScript, for example, is <a automate_uuid="0d227b50-d73e-4335-ac18-26c8faaaf776" href="https://www.neowin.net/news/microsoft-may-disable-vbscript-early-in-windows-11-24h2-25h2-shares-detailed-official-guide/" rel="external nofollow">currently an FOD on Windows 11 24H2</a>.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	Both setup and recovery updates were released but only for versions 25H2 and 24H2 as previous versions did not receive them. The updates also apply to Windows Server 2025. The changelogs are given below. First up we have the Setup update:
</p>

<blockquote class="QuoteNewsStyle">

<p>
	Up next, we have the Safe OS recovery update. It writes:

	With Windows 10 officially reaching out-of-support status on October 14, that leaves an estimated 400 million people without software updates, technical assistance, or, most critically, security fixes. Why is this so problematic? Really, you need to ask that question when faced with ongoing attacks a lack of appetite to adopt passkeys any time soon, and hackers continually evolving their tactics? Security has always been, and will continue to be, key to your safe usage of Windows 10 should you opt not to update to Windows 11. The good news is that Microsoft has now confirmed that users can continue to get those all-important security updates, for free, at least for another year. Here’s what you have to do, step-by-step, to ensure your Windows 10 computer is still protected by Microsoft security fixes.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	<span style="font-size:22px;"><strong>How To Continue Getting Official Microsoft Security Updates For Windows 10</strong></span>
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	Windows users are, understandably, given the size of the operating system market share, a prime target for attackers of all kinds, from nation-state espionage actors to hackers and scammers. Windows zero-day attacks are not going away, but for hundreds of millions of people who have not, or cannot, move away from the now unsupported Windows 10 platform, security updates have. Although some might look back on incidents such as the infamous startup loop of death and think good riddance, that is cyber masochism at its most brazen. When security updates stop, as they will for some Windows 11 users (yes, you read that right) on November 11, the only people who are happy are the attackers.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	The good news is that Microsoft has confirmed that Windows 10 users can continue to get security updates until October 13, 2026, without having to pay the $30 fee to enroll in the Extended Security Updates programme. Here’s what you need to do.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<ol>
	<li>
		Check that you are eligible. You must be running Microsoft Windows 10, version 22H2 Home, Professional, Pro Education or Workstations edition. You must have the latest Windows update installed. You must be signed in as an administrator. The account cannot be a child one.
	</li>
	<li>
		 Redeem 1,000 Microsoft reward points if you use that scheme.
	</li>
	<li>
		 Or, simply ensure that you are syncing your PC settings using backup with Windows to a Microsoft OneDrive account.
	</li>
</ol>

<p>

	The October 2025 non-security update for Windows 11 (it is now called "preview update") finally brought the redesigned Start menu to the masses. After four years of complaints, Microsoft has redesigned the Start menu for a single-page view, added the ability to remove the recommended section properly, and improved the use of space with additional views. The new Start menu is rolling out gradually, and you can enable it on your system, but before you go, beware of some odd bugs.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	Right after turning the new Start menu on, I noticed two very bizarre issues. First, when you install new apps, their folders with shortcuts do not appear in the list of apps right away. For example, I installed VMware Workstation on a clean Windows copy and could not find it in the list of all apps, even though the installer should have placed a VMware folder in the list with VMware Workstation Pro and VMware Player shortcuts. Windows Search did not return anything, but that is hardly surprising, given how terrible it still is.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	Interestingly, the folder and its shortcuts are actually there—I managed to find them in File Explorer by simply right-clicking any existing app and selecting "Open file location." They just failed to show up in the list of all apps. Only a system or File Explorer restart forced the Start menu to display all installed apps and their folders properly. During my testing, I noticed that this bug only affects apps that create folders in the Start Menu &gt; Programs directory.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	The second bug is also odd and annoying. The first time you open the Start menu after a system or File Explorer restart, left-clicking or right-clicking on any application results in the Start menu scrolling to the top of the list. You want to open the Photos app? Too bad, let's scroll to the top and open something completely different.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	Luckily, this bug only happens once. After the first misclick and the initial dose of user rage, the Start menu would stop unsolicited scrolling and behave as it should.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	I do not know how widespread these bugs are, but I managed to replicate them on my main computer, my laptop, and a virtual machine. This begs the question: how could Microsoft miss bugs like these, given that the new Start menu has spent quite a few months in development? I should also mention that Microsoft actually fixed the scrolling issue in the Insider build 26220.6780 from early October, with a similar bug supposedly fixed in another preview update from September. Hello, how about some fixes for users in the "stable release?"
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	All these questions are, of course, rhetorical, because Windows 11 quality assurance these days leaves a lot to be desired.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	Besides the new Start menu bug, we have an issue where Windows cannot properly terminate the Task Manager process, which results in a pileup of duplicate processes eating your memory and CPU power. With Microsoft's relentless attempts to inject AI into Windows and increase its product KPI with the never-ending influx of ads, bugs like these only further infuriate and disappoint users. Microsoft, it is time to get your stuff together!
</p>

<p>

	October 2025 was a very busy month in the Windows world. The most important event was <a automate_uuid="73a6b22c-9189-4a0b-8bd9-880f209cc469" href="https://www.neowin.net/news/kb5066791-microsoft-shares-details-on-windows-10-support-end-with-final-october-2025-patch/" rel="external nofollow">the end of Windows 10 mainstream support</a>. With Windows 10 going away, more users are switching to Windows 11, and with that, Microsoft is adding more useful changes and new features to the operating system. October 2025 is now behind us, so here is a quick look at five cool and useful changes Windows 11 has received.
</p>

<h3>
	1. Taskbar and Start menu
</h3>

<p>
	This is a big one. The taskbar and Start menu are among the most controversial things about Windows 11, but after years of complaints, we finally have some good progress. Microsoft <a automate_uuid="66cc396b-c0ec-44f3-ae4f-9a51a1a93c5d" href="https://www.neowin.net/news/windows-11-25h2-and-24h2-get-the-new-start-menu-and-a-lot-of-new-features-in-kb5067036/" rel="external nofollow">has redesigned the Start menu</a>, thus addressing plenty of criticism from users. You no longer need to enroll your device in the Insider program to get it, but since the rollout is gradual, you may need to <a automate_uuid="0b25fc05-75c5-4ba6-88bf-64ea0525a6a1" href="https://www.neowin.net/guides/windows-11-finally-has-a-new-and-much-improved-start-menu-here-is-how-to-enable-it/" rel="external nofollow">enable it manually</a>.
</p>

<figure class="image image--expandable">
	<img alt="The redesigned Start menu in Windows 11" class="ipsImage" height="405" width="720" src="https://cdn.neowin.com/news/images/uploaded/2025/06/1749504793_start_menu.webp">
</figure>

<p>
	In addition to the new menu, Microsoft finally <a automate_uuid="f14b9a25-d7d4-4302-9b74-043b3a078a47" href="https://www.neowin.net/news/a-long-requested-taskbar-feature-finally-makes-it-to-windows-11/" rel="external nofollow">improved the taskbar experience</a> for multi-monitor users. Now, you can open the notification center from any display. Also, the calendar flyout once again has a bigger clock, which is nice, and the system tray and lock screen now feature the redesigned battery indicators that are actually readable and useful.
</p>

<h3>
	2. Dark mode
</h3>

<p>
	<a automate_uuid="1e88ac85-0690-476d-8dab-a545a9272a1c" href="https://www.neowin.net/news/microsoft-is-finally-taking-dark-mode-in-windows-more-seriously/" rel="external nofollow">Microsoft is finally taking dark mode in Windows 11 more seriously</a>. In October, the company <a automate_uuid="1c460e62-ce43-40fb-be7d-7c0c063fb4b7" href="https://www.neowin.net/news/windows-11-25h2-finally-gets-long-requested-dark-mode-improvements-and-more-in-new-build/" rel="external nofollow">brought dark mode support</a> to more classic parts of Windows 11, namely copy/move dialogs, File Explorer Properties, and the Run dialog. For now, these changes are only available to Windows Insiders in the Dev and Beta Channels.
</p>

<figure class="image image--expandable">
	<img alt="Dark mode in Windows 11" class="ipsImage" height="405" width="720" src="https://cdn.neowin.com/news/images/uploaded/2025/10/1761486074_5.webp">
</figure>

<p>
	Additionally, Windows 11 finally has a Microsoft-made tool for automatic theme switching. Starting with <a automate_uuid="87fc1806-c1a1-43db-a314-84934d60750b" href="https://www.neowin.net/news/microsoft-releases-powertoys-095-with-highly-anticipated-light-switch-feature/" rel="external nofollow">version 0.95</a>, PowerToys has the Light Switch module, which can toggle between light and dark mode on schedule or with a keyboard shortcut. On a side note, PowerToys 0.95 also <a automate_uuid="7ce73e66-f9ea-4dab-b010-76c471919bb1" href="https://www.neowin.net/news/windows-11-just-borrowed-a-great-productivity-tool-from-mac/" rel="external nofollow">borrowed a very useful productivity tool from macOS</a>.
</p>

<h3>
	3. Windows Update
</h3>

<p>
	This is not the most earth-shattering change, but it is still welcome, especially for less experienced users. <a automate_uuid="fe1396be-afe8-4f15-b59a-157ba6e706a3" href="https://www.neowin.net/news/microsoft-is-making-windows-updates-simpler-and-more-intuitive/" rel="external nofollow">Windows Update now has simplified update names</a> for improved readability and simplicity. Long and overcomplicated names are gone; instead, Microsoft now uses simple stuff like "Preview Update," "Security Update," "Driver Update," etc. The new naming scheme is already available for all Windows users.
</p>

<p class="img-center">
	<img alt="Windows 11 Settings app with Windows Update" class="ipsImage" height="405" width="720" src="https://cdn.neowin.com/news/images/uploaded/2024/02/1707913490_windows_update.jpg">
</p>

<p>
	Besides that, Microsoft fixed error 0x800f0983 and <a automate_uuid="027fa060-bb6a-491b-a2ae-4e5fdf8910f4" href="https://www.neowin.net/news/microsoft-makes-windows-update-less-irritating-and-fixes-error-0x800f0983/" rel="external nofollow">made Windows Update slightly less irritating</a>. Now, when you click "Update and shutdown," the system should properly turn itself off—no more unsolicited restarts.
</p>

<h3>
	4. Initial system setup or OOBE
</h3>

<p>
	At the beginning of October, Microsoft released new Windows 11 preview builds, which introduced the long-requested ability to <a automate_uuid="d1a38e23-913a-4ac7-bcbf-cac23d1a1e14" href="https://www.neowin.net/news/windows-11-oobe-finally-allows-you-to-set-default-user-folder-name-but-in-a-convoluted-way/" rel="external nofollow">set a name for the default user folder</a>. This feature is particularly useful for those who set up Windows 11 the way Microsoft wants it—with the Internet on and a Microsoft Account. Now, you can have the proper folder name instead of the first five letters of your MSA email.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	Sadly, the implementation is quite convoluted, and it requires using the Command Prompt with a bunch of commands. You can bet that not a lot of users will bother doing that or even know they can do that.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	Speaking of the Internet and MSA, Microsoft continues waging its war against local accounts and offline setups. Changes in the latest Windows 11 builds make it <a automate_uuid="f770140d-46a6-4e76-841d-038a09059666" href="https://www.neowin.net/news/microsoft-makes-it-even-harder-to-install-windows-11-without-a-microsoft-account-or-internet/" rel="external nofollow">harder to set up the system in local offline mode</a>, but it is still possible—check out <a automate_uuid="1e9b00f7-842c-4427-a721-12ac64585cf6" href="https://www.neowin.net/guides/how-to-install-windows-11-with-a-local-offline-account/" rel="external nofollow">this guide</a>. Note that all these changes are currently present in preview builds.
</p>

<h3>
	5. Copilot
</h3>

<p>
	The Copilot app now has <a automate_uuid="1331d382-382c-499d-bf24-b0d1c78d8254" href="https://www.neowin.net/news/copilot-can-now-access-windows-settings-to-help-you-customize-your-pc/" rel="external nofollow">better access to system settings</a>, which allows it to better recommend your system settings and offer quick access to them. For example, you can say that your screen is too dim, and it will show you a link to display settings.
</p>

<p class="img-center">
	<img alt="Copilot Voice feature in Windows 11" class="ipsImage" height="240" width="720" src="https://cdn.neowin.com/news/images/uploaded/2025/10/1760613112_copilot_voice.webp">
</p>

<p>
	Additionally, you can invoke Copilot with the "<a automate_uuid="b3647ef7-6792-4b08-8aeb-4ecb3fae2973" href="https://www.neowin.net/news/microsoft-launches-copilot-vision-for-windows-11-and-hey-copilot-voice-activation/" rel="external nofollow">Hey Copilot</a>" command and even <a automate_uuid="4111ffe5-6041-4b5e-8f43-1f961d0f054c" href="https://www.neowin.net/news/copilot-on-windows-can-now-work-with-your-local-files-while-you-do-something-else/" rel="external nofollow">ask it to do something with your local files</a> while you are busy with something else.

	Although Windows is not an open-source operating system, there are plenty of apps and software available out there for the OS that are of that nature and are very helpful. One such example is UniGetUI, which recently got a new update that makes it snappier and faster due to <a automate_uuid="0d4e6ac4-aab1-4cae-8add-b77ca44fc698" href="https://www.neowin.net/news/this-popular-free-windows-1110-app-update-install-manager-just-got-faster/" rel="external nofollow">underlying code improvements</a>.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	Another such app is FlyOOBE, which allows users to bypass Windows 11 system requirements on unsupported PCs (recent updates let you <a automate_uuid="3b985096-366b-48c5-b27c-6cd8475bf66d" href="http://www.neowin.net/news/popular-windows-11-requirements-skip-app-now-allows-upgrading-with-unsupported-cpus/" rel="external nofollow">update PCs with unsupported processors</a>). It also allows customizing Windows with features like debloating that can make the OS feel lighter, something which can help on a low-spec PC.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	The developer of the app, however, has warned recently that an unofficial mirror of the utility is now being hosted on a site not directly affiliated with the project. They write in a "SECURITY ALERT" section: "DO NOT DOWNLOAD FROM <a href="https://flyoobe.net/" ipsnoembed="false" rel="external nofollow">https://flyoobe.net/</a> This is an unofficial mirror and may host tampered or malicious builds. It has NO affiliation with me or this project’s official pages."
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	The author of FlyOOBE has added that the aforementioned website is best avoided, as the only official download spot for the app is its official GitHub repo. You can also follow <a automate_uuid="5f681056-d5a5-44fa-865f-49c739c4a99e" href="https://www.neowin.net/software/" rel="external nofollow">Neowin's software stories section</a> as we make sure to link only to the authentic sources. This can be especially tricky, considering the authentic FlyOOBE app itself can still sometimes be flagged by anti-malware products.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	Interestingly, the unofficial FlyOOBE website assures that the downloads from its website are completely safe and secure. In the FAQ section of the site, it writes:
</p>

<blockquote class="QuoteNewsStyle">
	<p>
		<strong>Is FlyOOBE safe?</strong><br>
		Yes, it is safe if you download it from our official site, but skipping checks can sometimes cause problems or stop some updates.
	</p>
</blockquote>

<p>
	If you wish to download the latest version of the utility, you can do so from the link given below towards the bottom of the article. The release notes are given below, which include UI improvements and more:

	Microsoft is further improving Bluetooth audio capabilities in Windows 11 by finally introducing shared audio support. Starting with <a automate_uuid="0f2877fa-e5bc-4f98-84cd-9b32aa929c27" href="https://www.neowin.net/news/windows-11-25h2-gets-shared-bluetooth-audio-copilot-on-taskbar-and-more-in-build-262207051/" rel="external nofollow">the latest build 26220.7051</a>, Windows 11 users can share a single audio stream to two separate headphones, speakers, hearing aids, and other wireless audio devices. Microsoft says this feature is useful for scenarios like watching a movie on a plane with someone else, studying together, and more.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	Sadly, there is one big catch. In addition to being available only in the Insider program (Dev and Beta Channels), shared Bluetooth audio in Windows 11 currently works with Copilot+ PCs with Qualcomm Snapdragon processors. Microsoft is working on adding more devices to the compatibility list, so look forward to getting it if you have a Samsung Galaxy device with an Intel Core Ultra Series 200 processor.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	<img alt="New features in Windows 11 build 262207051" class="ipsImage" height="263" width="237" src="https://cdn.neowin.com/news/images/uploaded/2025/10/1761931682_bluetooth_shared_audio.webp">
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	For now, shared audio only works on consumer and business versions of Snapdragon-based Surface Laptop 7 and Surface Pro 11. Soon, Microsoft will bring shared audio to Samsung Galaxy Book5 Pro, 360, 360 Pro, and Book4 Edge with Intel Core Ultra 200 and Snapdragon X chips, alongside lower-end Surface Laptop 13-inch and Surface Pro 12-inch with Snapdragon processors. According to <a automate_uuid="1bf51232-1adf-40a2-a541-2b67cdbe9f4d" href="https://blogs.windows.com/windows-insider/2025/10/31/extending-bluetooth-le-audio-on-windows-11-with-shared-audio-preview/" rel="external nofollow">the announcement post</a>, a driver update will appear first, after which, you will see the Shared Audio tile in Quick Settings. By the way, <a automate_uuid="1c876a0a-5cb4-4693-923b-067787f0651d" href="https://www.neowin.net/news/microsoft-is-making-windows-updates-simpler-and-more-intuitive/" rel="external nofollow">Windows Update now uses simplified names</a>, so spotting the necessary driver should be easier.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	Microsoft says more devices "may be supported once available to general audiences."
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	As for compatible headphones, Microsoft says shared audio in Windows 11 works with a wide range of accessories that support Bluetooth LE Audio. Those include (not limited to) Samsung Galaxy Buds2 Pro, Buds3 and Buds3 Pro, Sony WH-1000XM6, and various hearing aids from ReSound and Beltone that support Bluetooth LE Audio.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	If you have a compatible device and the latest Windows 11 preview build, you can try shared audio by pairing two headphones and then clicking the Shared Audio tile in Quick Settings. Select the headphones you want to use and press Share.

	Windows 11 Build 26220.7051 is now rolling out to testers in the Insider Program, and there are at least three new features, including Ask Copilot on the taskbar.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	Up until now, you could access Copilot on Windows 11 via the app or browser, but now you can use a new taskbar-based 'Ask Copilot' to interact with the AI.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	My understanding is that this new Copilot taskbar search experience will replace the existing Windows Search UI at some point.

<p>
	For now, Ask Copilot will remain an optional feature that you need to opt into.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	You can use Copilot on the taskbar to search the internet, local files and AI using text and voice.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	"You’re always in control. As you type, results appear and update instantly, making it easier than ever to find what you need," Microsoft <a href="https://blogs.windows.com/windows-insider/2025/10/31/announcing-windows-11-insider-preview-build-26220-7051-dev-beta-channels/" rel="external nofollow" target="_blank">explained </a>in a blog post.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	Microsoft says it's hopeful Copilot will eventually become a natural way of using PC.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	To turn on the feature, open <strong>Settings &gt; Personalization &gt; Taskbar &gt; Ask Copilot</strong>.
</p>

<h2>
	New Xbox experience rolls out to everyone
</h2>

<p>
	If you own a handheld device, you can now try the new full-screen experience (FSE), which was previously exclusive to the ASUS ROG Xbox Ally and ROG Xbox Ally X.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	With full-screen experience (FSE), Microsoft says Windows performs better and allows you to focus only on gaming.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	To enable FSE, go to Settings &gt; Gaming &gt; Full screen experience, then select Xbox as your home app.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	Once enabled, you can access FSE from Task View and Game Bar or configure your handheld to enter full screen experience on startup.
</p>

<h2>
	Shared audio support for Bluetooth
</h2>

<p>
	Microsoft is rolling out a new "<a href="https://www.bleepingcomputer.com/news/microsoft/windows-11-tests-shared-bluetooth-audio-support-but-only-for-ai-pcs/" rel="external nofollow" target="_blank">shared audio</a>," which is built on top of <a href="https://www.bluetooth.com/learn-about-bluetooth/feature-enhancements/le-audio/" rel="external nofollow" target="_blank">Bluetooth LE Audio</a> broadcast technology.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	Windows can now transmit an audio stream to two Bluetooth devices.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	You can turn on the new “Shared audio (preview)” shortcut in quick settings to start sharing audio.
</p>

</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	Last but not least, ARM PCs now have better performance after this update.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	Microsoft has enabled support for more 64-bit x86 (x64) applications to run under emulation by adding support for more CPU features under emulation. This leads to better performance.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	These features will roll out to everyone in the coming weeks.

</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	Earlier this year, in May, a popular Windows package manager utility called UniGetUI (formerly WinGetUI) received an impressive boost to its performance <a automate_uuid="233e11b7-9044-42c7-91b8-79e139416c4b" href="https://www.neowin.net/news/windows-1110-package-manager-unigetui-gets-big-performance-boost-with-trim-support/" rel="external nofollow">thanks to TRIM support</a>. Both the size of the executable file and the memory footprint saw significant reductions in size.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	Fast forward six months to November, and the app has again received a significant speed boost with its new update. That is because a recent code update greatly reduces the application startup time by eliminating a 700‑millisecond (ms) delay in the <code>LoadComponentsAsync()</code>. Previously, the method waited for <code>DoEntryTextAnimationAsync</code> to complete before initiating <code>iniTasks</code>. By moving the animation call into iniTasks, the dev reports that they are able to save an approximate 25 to 30 percent off startup time on test machines, which is actually a fairly impressive feat, and can be especially helpful on devices that either have a lower spec CPU, RAM, GPU, or lack an SSD.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	For those of you wondering, the <code>LoadComponentsAsync()</code>function is responsible for loading the various UI elements or resources of an application when it is starting up, like animations or indicators, as well as setting up the necessary services, caches, or configuration files.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	On the topic of performance, a freeze and hang issue related to the opening of shared packages has also been fixed. The full changelog is given below:
</p>

<p>

</p>

<ul>
	<li>
		[NuGet] Resiliency improvements for when a source fails to load, but other sources can still be reachable
	</li>
	<li>
		[WinGet] Updated bundled WinGet to v1.12.
	</li>
	<li>
		[WinGet] Better detect when an uninstaller needs administrator permissions.
	</li>
	<li>
		[WinGet] Added new <code>winget-fonts</code> source as a known source
	</li>
	<li>
		Fixed a deadlock caused when starting UniGetUI in certain combinations of <code>unigetui://</code>
	</li>
	<li>
		Fixed a bug that would cause source operations to be duplicated
	</li>
	<li>
		Fixed a bug that would show the user avatar empty on unreliable internet connections
	</li>
	<li>
		Improved handling of exceptions thrown by package-related tasks after a 1-minute timeout has passed and the task is not awaited anymore. In those cases, the exception won't show an "Internal Error" on the interface anymore.
	</li>
	<li>
		Improvements on automatic updates: Updates won't be duplicated anymore
	</li>
	<li>
		Fixed a bug where the <code>last checked</code> time would show an incorrect date and time. Furthermore, the <code>last checked</code> label will follow the user's locale format.
	</li>
	<li>
		Startup speed improvements.
	</li>
</ul>

	Earlier this week, news emerged about <a automate_uuid="4557460e-4090-4a8a-ae74-1767241e899c" href="https://www.neowin.net/news/odd-windows-11-bug-duplicates-task-manager-process-instead-of-closing-it/" rel="external nofollow">a bizarre Task Manager bug</a> where an attempt to close it results in the exact opposite. Even though the Task Manager window disappears, its process keeps running, and every subsequent try to open Task Manager creates an extra copy, leading to a pile-up of duplicated processes eating up your RAM and CPU. The most ironic part is that all of this happens in production, not some super-early preview build.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	To all of this, Microsoft now has an answer: Yep, Task Manager is screwed.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	The company <a automate_uuid="f656ec90-1896-4012-94ca-2041734cb515" href="https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/release-health/status-windows-11-25h2#3707msgdesc" rel="external nofollow">acknowledged </a>the bug by posting a message on the official Windows Health Dashboard website. There, the company explained that the bug happens on client Windows 11 versions 24H2 and 25H2 with <a automate_uuid="df45ecf1-71e5-4725-8480-4d500d526780" href="https://www.neowin.net/news/windows-11-25h2-and-24h2-get-the-new-start-menu-and-a-lot-of-new-features-in-kb5067036/" rel="external nofollow">the latest non-security update</a> (the one that introduced <a automate_uuid="5ad71432-ffc5-4cd8-8ee1-e47742a0e592" href="https://www.neowin.net/guides/windows-11-finally-has-a-new-and-much-improved-start-menu-here-is-how-to-enable-it/" rel="external nofollow">the redesigned Start menu</a> and new battery indicators).
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	The bug is not a big deal if you regularly restart your system (say, start a PC in the morning and turn it off by the evening). System shutdown or restart clears it of all Task Manager duplicates, but if your computer runs nonstop, the issue may turn seriously ugly and result in massive resource drain. To those who do not restart or shut down their PCs, Microsoft has a few workarounds. First, you can close Task Manager by clicking "End task" instead of the X button. Also, you can run Command Prompt as Administrator and execute <strong>taskkill.exe /im taskmgr.exe /f</strong> to end all Task Manager instances.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	Microsoft says it is working on fixing this problem, and it will share more details once they are available. Microsoft has a bunch of ways to fix bugs like this. It could be the Known Issue Rollback mechanism, an out-of-band update, or something else. Whatever Microsoft picks, you'd better watch out for those Task Manager processes to make sure you are not wasting all of your RAM on them.

	Friday Windows 11 preview build is here, and it is a slightly different one. Build 26220.7051 (KB5067115) is out for both Dev and Beta Channels, where Microsoft now ships the same 25H2 build. This is also an opportunity for Dev Insiders to switch to the Beta Channel without reinstalling the operating system. After a brief period of time, Dev builds will move to higher numbers, and they may become less stable.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	As for the new features in build 26220.7051, it introduces the Ask Copilot feature on the taskbar (one that Microsoft announced recently), the full-screen gaming experience for more handheld consoles, shared Bluetooth audio so that you can play audio on multiple headphones, File Explorer performance improvements, various fixes, and more.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	Here is the changelog:
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	<strong>Introducing Ask Copilot in taskbar</strong>
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	With the new Ask Copilot in the taskbar, Copilot becomes a natural part of how you use your PC, ready to help, guide and collaborate the moment you need it.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	This opt-in experience gives you one-click access to Copilot Vision and Voice, enabling more natural interaction in your flow. Whether through text, voice, or guided support with Copilot Vision, you can engage on your terms, in the way that works best for you. You’re always in control. As you type, results appear and update instantly, making it easier than ever to find what you need.
</p>

</p>

<p>
	To get started, go to Settings &gt; Personalization &gt; Taskbar &gt; Ask Copilot to enable the experience. You can also manage whether the Copilot app launches automatically at sign-in using the “Auto start on login” toggle in the Copilot app settings.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	Ask Copilot in the taskbar complements the familiar Windows Search experience, so you can continue using Search as you always have from Start while trying out this new experience.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	Ask Copilot uses existing Windows APIs to return apps, files, and settings—just like Windows Search—and does not grant Copilot access to your personal content. For more details, you can learn about privacy and control options for Microsoft Copilot here.

	<strong>Full-screen experience</strong>
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	Following the initial launch of the full-screen experience (FSE) on the ASUS ROG Xbox Ally and ROG Xbox Ally X, today’s preview to Windows Insiders expands availability to additional Windows 11 handheld devices currently in market.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	Designed with console-style navigation in mind, the Xbox PC app, paired with the full-screen experience, delivers a clean, distraction-free interface for handheld gaming. You’ll get smooth task switching and optimized performance, with background processes minimized and non-essential tasks deferred—so gameplay stays responsive and uninterrupted.

	<strong>Shared audio (preview)</strong>
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	In this update, we are beginning the rollout of shared audio (preview), a new experience built on Bluetooth® LE Audio broadcast technology, for Copilot+ PCs. Shared audio allows two family members to watch movies together while traveling, or two students to share music while studying.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	[<strong>Prism</strong>]
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	We are enabling the feature update to Prism, our emulator for Windows on Arm, that makes it possible for more 64-bit x86 (x64) applications to run under emulation by adding support for more CPU features under emulation. This support will be made available to any 64-bit x86 (x64) application under emulation by default, and 32-bit x86 applications can be opted in to the support using the emulation settings in the Properties window.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	Please submit any feedback on compatibility issues or performance regressions through the Feedback Hub (Win + F) under Apps and the specific app you’re seeing issues with (if you don’t see the app listed, use “All other apps”) to help us ensure that this updated Prism provides a great experience.

	<li>
		Fixed an issue where you might see your desktop icons move when interacting with files, such as opening or renaming them.
	</li>
	<li>

</p>

<p>

</p>

<ul>
	<li>
		We’re investigating an issue that is causing the Start menu to not open for some Insiders on click, although it will open if you press the Windows key. It’s believed this issue may also potentially impact the notification center (which you can open with WIN + N).
	</li>
	<li>
		We’re investigating an issue where, for some Insiders, apps aren’t showing in the system tray when they should be.

		Copy progress might flash when clicking more or less details in the dark mode version of the copy dialog.
	</li>
	<li>
		Scrollbar and footer are missing and showing a white block instead when text is scaled in the dark mode version of the copy dialog.
	</li>

	Microsoft Edge 142 is now available for download. Microsoft is rolling out the latest feature update for its browser, bringing autofill improvements, scareware blocker, security patches, and other changes.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	Scareware blocker is a pretty big security update in Edge 142, which is aimed at protecting users from fake websites and banners that claim the user's system is infected and they need to call fake Microsoft support. Starting with Edge 142, the scareware blocker is enabled by default on Windows and macOS (as long as you have 2GB of RAM and four cores).
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	According to Microsoft, the latest Microsoft Edge update adds a scareware sensor for faster detection so that the browser can notify SmartScreen about potential scams with no need to share screenshots or extra data. This enables SmartScreen to block harmful and scammy websites faster. For now, the new scareware sensor is turned off by default, but Microsoft plans to enable it for users with SmartScreen enabled by default. Note that the scareware blocker can continue operating and protecting you from all sorts of digital nastiness.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	You can read more about the scareware sensor in Microsoft Edge 142 <a automate_uuid="fc81ae67-a15b-4dcb-a636-3674606c1eb6" href="https://blogs.windows.com/msedgedev/2025/10/31/protecting-more-edge-users-with-expanded-scareware-blocker-availability-and-real-time-protection/" rel="external nofollow">in a post on the official Microsoft Edge Blog</a>.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	Other changes in Microsoft Edge 142 include the ability to disable tab grouping when dragging tabs and improved autofill. Now, when you fill in an address, Microsoft Edge will prompt you to save it for future suggestions. Microsoft says that this approach reduces unwanted entries and ensures that autofill data is saved intentionally.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	Also, Microsoft Edge 142 fixes 20 Chromium security vulnerabilities and one Edge-specific security vulnerability. You can find details about those patches in the Security Update Guideline <a automate_uuid="05371e41-9482-4238-80c9-bd2d6c1e44b0" href="https://msrc.microsoft.com/update-guide" rel="external nofollow">here</a>.

			Important update regarding the rollout of the Auto-Open feature. We’ve identified an issue with the initial implementation of the Auto-Open feature—it didn’t fully respect user preferences, and some settings weren’t honored as intended.<br>
			<br>
			To address this, the changes are being rolled back in phases during the next month to ensure all user preferences are correctly honored. As a result, users may temporarily notice a return to previous behavior where the sidepane opens even if the sidebar visibility is set to Off.<br>
			<br>
			Here are a few ways to manage the auto-open experience:
			<ul>
				<li>
					Manually Turn Off Auto-Open Pane: Users can manually disable the Auto-Open experience by navigating to the settings page if they prefer not to see the sidepane open for Outlook and Teams links.
				</li>
				<li>
					Automatic Engagement-Based Logic: If a user doesn't engage with the Auto-Open experience and quickly closes it three times in a row, the feature is automatically turned off.
				</li>
				<li>
					Turn off Auto-Open Pane using admin policies: Admins can control the Auto-Open experience by using either of these policies.

	<br />
	<span style="font-size:16px;">Creators baffled as videos on local accounts, unsupported PCs vanish under ‘harmful acts’ rule</span><br />

</p>

<p>
	Is installing Windows 11 with a local account or on unsupported hardware harmful or dangerous? YouTube's AI moderation system seems to think so, as it has started pulling videos that show users how to sidestep Microsoft's setup restrictions.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	Tech YouTuber Rich White, aka CyberCPU Tech, was the first to go public about the issue on October 26, when he posted a video reporting the removal of a how-to he published on installing Windows 11 25H2 with a local account instead of a Microsoft account. In the video, White expressed concern that YouTube's automated flagging process may be the root of the problem, as he found it hard to believe that "creating a local account in Windows 11 could lead to serious harm or even death," as YouTube reportedly alleged when it removed the video.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	When he appealed, White said that YouTube denied the request within 10 to 20 minutes, early on a Sunday morning, which led him to speculate that there wasn't a human in the loop when the request was shut down. That wasn't his only video removed, either.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	The next day, White uploaded his video for this week on installing Windows 11 25H2 on unsupported hardware, which was removed hours after being posted. YouTube justified the removal on similar grounds. As was the case with the first removal, White appealed.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	"The appeal was denied at 11:55, a full one minute after submitting it," White explained in a video following up on both removals. "If this was reviewed by a real human like YouTube claims they are, they watched a 17-minute video and denied the appeal in one minute."
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	At least two other YouTubers - Britec09 and Hrutkay Mods - have released videos alleging much of the same: They published content about Windows workarounds, YouTube removed them, and they had an impossible time getting to a human for any help. YouTube's AI, all three contend, blocked their videos, despite the fact that bypassing Windows 11 locks is neither illegal nor dangerous for people who follow the instructions.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	Sure, you might muck up your Windows machine, but no one is going to lose a finger.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	"I don't believe I've spoken with a single human being from Google or YouTube yet since this started," White told us in an email. "It's been all automated."
</p>

<p>
	<br />
	<span style="font-size:22px;"><strong>Is Microsoft tipping the scales?</strong></span>
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	White speculated in one of his videos about the takedowns that Microsoft may have been trying to exert pressure on Google to have the videos taken down. Neither Microsoft nor Google has responded to our questions on the matter, so while that prospect remains speculative, there is a timing element that's quite coincidental. Microsoft just closed the local account loophole for Windows 11 setup in its most recent insider build.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	That's not the only loophole that Microsoft has been trying to quiet down, either. In February, Redmond took down its own advice on how to install Windows 11 on unsupported hardware without Trusted Platform Module 2.0 hardware in a bid to get people to stop doing that and just buy new hardware. Coincidentally or not, that's the topic of White's and others' removed videos.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	Odd timing aside, White doesn't believe Microsoft's malfeasance was part of the takedowns despite his publicly speculating on that in one of his videos.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	"I mentioned in one of the videos I made regarding this issue the possibility of Microsoft's involvement," White told us. "That was spoken more out of frustration and confusion over the whole issue and I just don't think Microsoft had anything to do with it."
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	This problem, he explained, is more about AI inappropriately flagging content and YouTube not having the manpower to deal with appeals.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	It could go further than just a few removed videos, though. All three channels we identified expressed far more concern about the chilling effect AI moderation without a human in the loop can have on free expression on YouTube.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	"The number of creators currently being affected reaches far further than the ones that have had videos taken down like I have because creators have voiced fear in what we are allowed to publish," White explained.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	The CyberCPU vlogger explained that YouTube didn't provide any actual explanation about what his videos did to violate the site's content policy, leaving him and other tech creators in a position where anything they publish could result in a strike against their channel and eventual removal.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	"My fear is this could lead to many creators fearing covering more moderate to advanced tutorials," White told us, adding that such self-censorship would inevitably lead to less engagement. "Another creator shared that sentiment with me because he had been posting more 'safe' videos since this ordeal started and his views have suffered from it."
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	Ultimately, the tech YouTubers waging this campaign seem to simply want an explanation and clarity.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	"We would just like YouTube to tell us what the issue is," White said. "If it's just a mistake then fine, restore our videos and we'll move on. If it's a new policy on YouTube, then tell us where the line is and hopefully we can move forward.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	"Operating blind isn't going to work," White concluded in his message to us.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	Welcome to the age of AI moderation - here's hoping you don't trip the system with no way to appeal. ®
</p>

	Tajikistan has announced plans to integrate AI into government operations for the first time, aiming to support data-driven decision-making across public administration.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	The announcement was made at the AI CONF conference in Dushanbe, one of Central Asia’s largest forums focused on AI.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	During the event, more than 20 agreements and partnerships were signed, totaling over $117 million.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	The headline development was an agreement between Perplexity AI, Epsilon3.ai, and the Ministry of Industry and New Technologies of Tajikistan to launch the Comet AI Browser, described as the world’s first agent-based AI browser tailored specifically for the public sector.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	“This collaboration contributes to the formation of a sovereign artificial intelligence ecosystem in the region,” said Epsilon3.ai co-founder Najima Noyoftova. “By combining Perplexity’s cutting-edge technology with our experience in creating government AI systems, we are laying the foundation for self-sufficient digital governance and setting a new standard for responsible AI innovation in Central Asia.”
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	The Comet browser will replace manual document search and analysis processes, allowing officials to receive real-time analytical reports and policy recommendations. The goal is to accelerate administrative workflows and improve transparency across ministries.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	Comet uses natural language processing and deep data analysis to interpret queries, compare sources, and deliver conclusions.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	It can assist with gathering statistics, drafting regulatory documents, and monitoring procurement activities or economic trends.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	By automating routine tasks, it is expected to reduce staff workloads and lower the risk of human error.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	The project’s pilot phase is scheduled for fall 2025, during which 140 employees at the Ministry of Industry will be trained to use the browser. If successful, the platform will be rolled out to additional government agencies in 2026.
</p>

	Samsung has announced the beta release of its web browser, Samsung Internet Browser, for Windows. However, it is only available in South Korea or the United States.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	If you can recall, the app was spotted on the Microsoft Store in November 2023, but was taken down. As Martin wrote, it was pretty bare-bones at that time.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	Two years later, is the browser ready to take on the web?
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	The announcement says that Samsung Internet Browser supports Galaxy AI features like Browsing Assist, which can summarize web pages, and translate content. The company's vision for ambient AI is to seamlessly integrate AI into everyday life. But you will need to be signed in to your Samsung account to use these features.
</p>

</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	This also lets you sync your browser's data between your devices, i.e. PC and Android phone, manage your passwords with Samsung Pass, and access the ‘Continue apps on other devices’ feature which lets you continue browsing a web page on another device.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	Samsung Internet for PC supports Windows 11 and Windows 10 (version 1809 and above. The browser will be available in more regions in the future. Want to download it? You'll need a Samsung Account registered in South Korea or the United States, and sign in to the Samsung Developer Portal.
</p>

<p>

	<img alt="Samsung-Internet-Browser-for-Windows.png" class="ipsImage" data-ratio="75.10" height="332" width="720" src="https://www.ghacks.net/wp-content/uploads/2025/10/Samsung-Internet-Browser-for-Windows.png" />
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	Alternatively, SamMobile has the installer, if you want to try it. It's a web-installer.
</p>

</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	I tested it briefly on my Windows VM. Samsung Internet Browser is based on Chromium. You don't need to sign in to a Samsung account to use the app.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p style="text-align:center;">
	<img alt="Samsung-Internet-Browser-ad-blocking.png" class="ipsImage" data-ratio="75.10" height="540" width="701" src="https://www.ghacks.net/wp-content/uploads/2025/10/Samsung-Internet-Browser-ad-blocking.png" />
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	Samsung Internet Browser for PC includes "Smart anti-tracking", which is what the browser's built-in ad blocker is called. That's a good thing. But, it tends to leave blank spaces where ads are, and failed to block certain ads even on strict mode, which is unimpressive. Fortunately, the app allows you to install extensions from the Chrome web store, so you can install uBlock Origin Lite. It has an HTTPS-first toggle too.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p style="text-align:center;">
	<img alt="Samsung-Internet-Browser-privacy-dashboa" class="ipsImage" data-ratio="75.10" height="332" width="720" src="https://www.ghacks.net/wp-content/uploads/2025/10/Samsung-Internet-Browser-privacy-dashboard.png" />
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	The default search engine is Google, you can switch it to any of the following options
</p>

<p>

</p>

<ul>
	<li>
		    Youtube
	</li>
	<li>
		    Yahoo!
	</li>
	<li>
		    Microsoft Bing
	</li>
	<li>
		    DuckDuckGo
	</li>
	<li>
		    Naver
	</li>
	<li>
		    Daum
	</li>
	<li>
		    Qwant
	</li>
	<li>
		    startpage
	</li>
	<li>
		    Yandex
	</li>
	<li>
		    @MAIL.RU
	</li>
	<li>
		    Seznam.cz
	</li>
	<li>
		    Baidu
	</li>
	<li>
		    Sogou
	</li>
	<li>
		    360
	</li>
</ul>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	Samsung Internet allows you to access the internet://flags/ page to try experimental features, unlike the last 2 browsers I tried, ChatGPT Atlas and Perplexity Comet. Samsung's browser has a sidebar on the right edge, which contains shortcuts to various AI features, which I didn't test.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p style="text-align:center;">
	<img alt="Samsung-Internet-Browser-Browsing-Assist" class="ipsImage" data-ratio="75.10" height="332" width="720" src="https://www.ghacks.net/wp-content/uploads/2025/10/Samsung-Internet-Browser-Browsing-Assist-AI.png" />
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	The browser seems to be very CPU-intensive. Even with zero tabs and no add-ons, it slowed my VM to a crawl, something none of the other browsers I tested did. It's a raw beta, alright! Hopefully this CPU spike issue is sorted out during the beta program.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	There is no word yet about a Linux or Mac version of the browser.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	Here's the page for the browser's privacy policy. It seems pretty wild to me.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	Have you tried Samsung Internet Browser on PC?
</p>

	<span style="font-size:18px;">A Windows tool for productivity. </span>
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	When I’m deep into a story it’s good to have zero distractions on my desktop. That way I can give my full attention to what I’m doing. To do that, I turn on Windows Focus. Focus is a Windows feature designed to help you stay on track by minimizing distractions. It can be a useful tool if you’re working or studying and need absolute radio silence.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	It works by blocking notifications, sounds, and alerts from apps and contacts. You can also customize settings to allow certain notifications to come through if you need to.
</p>

<p>
	<br />
	<span style="font-size:20px;"><strong>What to do:</strong></span>
</p>

<p>

</p>

<ul>
	<li>
		You can start a focus session in the Settings app. Just navigate to <em>Settings &gt; System &gt; Focus.</em>
	</li>
	<li>
		Under Focus select the options you want to apply to future focus sessions. You can choose the session duration, show the timer in the Clock app, hide badges on taskbar apps, hide flashing on taskbar apps and to turn on do not disturb.
	</li>
	<li>
		Then all you have to do is start your focus session by clicking on the play button.
	</li>
</ul>

<p>

</p>

<p style="text-align:center;">
	<img alt="Screenshot-2025-10-21-101151.png?w=1200" class="ipsImage" data-ratio="75.10" height="468" width="720" src="https://b2c-contenthub.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/10/Screenshot-2025-10-21-101151.png?w=1200" />
</p>

<p style="text-align:center;">
	<span style="font-size:12px;">Image:  Dominic Bayley / Foundry</span>
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	When you start a focus session, a focus timer appears on screen. You can use additional focus tools in the Clock app. Do not disturb is turned on by default when you start a focus session, which automatically silences your notifications.
</p>

	<span>The optional October 2025 update can cause multiple Task Manager instances to run in the background.</span>
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	If you’re a Windows 11 user who frequently uses the Task Manager tool, you should probably avoid Microsoft’s latest OS update.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	Reddit users and my colleague Tom Warren are reporting that a bug in the optional Windows 11 KB5067036 update is causing Task Manager to duplicate itself when they attempt to close the app, impacting computer performance.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	The bug is breaking the “X” button to quit Task Manager, preventing the app from shutting down and instead keeping it running in the background. Repeated attempts to open and close the app result in multiple instances that can eat up your CPU and RAM resources.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	According to the KB5067036 change log notes, the update includes a fix for Task Manager that resolves some apps not being grouped with their processes, but mentions no other Task Manager changes. Microsoft hasn’t acknowledged this new bug at the time of writing, and the KB5067036 log still says that the company “is not currently aware of any issues with this update.”
</p>

<p>
	We have reached out to Microsoft for further information.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	Thankfully, Windows Latest and Reddit user BNSoul have found a temporary workaround. Individual Task Manager instances can be closed by selecting the “End task” button on the app instead of clicking the “X” button, or users can run taskkill /im taskmgr.exe /f in the Windows 11 Command Prompt to shut down all of the Task Manager instances simultaneously.

	The 'Brash' flaw not only affects all Chromium-based browsers and works by bombarding a little-known function.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	A newly discovered flaw can crash a browser session in seconds.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	The vulnerability affects browsers that use the open-source Chromium platform, including Google's Chrome and Microsoft's Edge, according to security researcher Jose Pino, who disclosed the threat this week. “It allows any Chromium browser to collapse in 15-60 seconds by exploiting an architectural flaw,” he says.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	The so-called “Brash” attack targets Blink, the rendering engine in Chromium that displays web pages. Pino discovered you can essentially flood requests to Blink through an application programming interface (API) involving the “document.title" property.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	<img alt="01ICcHfO3lUqCl0waVeLBtk-2.fit_lim.size_9" class="ipsImage" data-ratio="70.56" height="404" width="720" src="https://i.pcmag.com/imagery/articles/01ICcHfO3lUqCl0waVeLBtk-2.fit_lim.size_904x.jpg" />
</p>

<p>
	<span> Pino created a site to demonstrate the attack. (Credit: Jose Pino)</span>
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	“Blink processes each document.title change synchronously on the main thread without rate limiting. This creates a bottleneck,” he wrote on a GitHub page that covers the attack. As a result, a hacker can exploit the technical oversight to create a malicious web page that can overwhelm the engine. “The impact is significant; it consumes high CPU resources, degrades overall system performance, and can halt or slow down other processes running simultaneously,” he warned.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	To demonstrate the threat, Pino created a site that can trigger the attack, which successfully crashed our Chrome browser session on the desktop and Android. His research found that the flaw can also take down ChatGPT Atlas, Brave, and Opera, which use Chromium. However, non-Chromium browsers such as Firefox and Apple’s Safari are immune.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	Pino’s GitHub page describes his technique to flood Blink’s API, which involves injecting  “approximately 24 million updates per second,” triggering any Chromium browser to collapse. Although the attack won’t loot your password or expose your privacy, it can still be a nuisance by abruptly shutting down all your browser tabs.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	On why the flaw has no patch, Pino told The Register he decided to disclose the flaw to “draw attention to a severe issue affecting broad internet users after my initial report two months ago went unanswered.” Google is reportedly looking into the issue, which can likely be fixed by adding a rate-limit restriction.
</p>
