	Microsoft today announced the availability of Microsoft Edge 93 Beta release. This build version 93.0.961.11 comes with several new improvements like Tab groups, ability to hide title bar in Vertical tabs mode, ability to easily enter Picture in Picture (PiP) mode and more. Find the full change log below.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	<strong>What’s new Microsoft Edge 93 beta</strong>:
</p>

<p>

</p>

<ul>
	<li>
		<strong>Initial Preferences in Microsoft Edge</strong>. Deploying Microsoft Edge to your enterprise will become easier starting in version 93, with the addition of Initial Preferences.
	</li>
	<li>
		<strong>IE mode on Microsoft Edge will support “nomerge” behavior</strong>. Starting in Edge 93, IE mode on Microsoft Edge will support nomerge. For an end-user, when a new browser window is launched from an IE mode application, it will be in a separate session, similar to the nomerge behavior in IE11. You will need to adjust your site list to configure sites that need to prevent session sharing as “nomerge”. Behind the scenes, for each window of Microsoft Edge, the first time an IE mode tab is visited within that window, if it is one of the designated “nomerge” sites, that window is locked into a different “nomerge” IE session from all other Microsoft Edge windows at least until the last IE mode tab is closed in that window. This follows previous behavior where users could launch IE with nomerge and could also launch Microsoft Edge without nomerge via other mechanisms.
	</li>
	<li>
		<strong>Tab Groups</strong>. The ability to categorize tabs into user-defined groups helps you more effectively find, switch and manage tabs across multiple workstreams. To enable this, we are turning on tab grouping beginning with Microsoft Edge version 93.
	</li>
	<li>
		<strong>Hide the title bar while using Vertical Tabs</strong>. Get the extra few pixels back by hiding the browser’s title bar, while in Vertical Tabs. Starting with Microsoft Edge version 93, you can go to edge://settings/appearance and under the Customize Toolbar section select the option to hide the title bar while in Vertical Tab mode.
	</li>
	<li>
		<strong>Video Picture in Picture (PiP) from hover toolbar</strong>. Beginning in Edge version 93, it will become even easier to enter Picture in Picture (PiP) mode. When you hover over a supported video, a toolbar will appear that allows you to view that video in a PiP window. Please note: this is currently available for Microsoft Edge users on macOS. Please check back shortly as we continue our rollout to Windows users.
	</li>
	<li>
		<strong>Removal of 3DES in TLS</strong>. Starting with Edge v93, support for the TLS_RSA_WITH_3DES_EDE_CBC_SHA cipher suite will be removed. This change is happening in the Chromium project, on which Microsoft Edge is based. For more information, navigate to the <a data-linktype="external" href="https://chromestatus.com/feature/6678134168485888" rel="external nofollow" target="_blank">Chrome Platform Status entry</a>. Additionally, in Edge v93, the <a data-linktype="absolute-path" href="https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/deployedge/microsoft-edge-policies#tripledesenabled" rel="external nofollow" target="_blank">TripleDESEnabled</a> policy will be available to support scenarios that need to preserve compatibility with outdated servers. This compatibility policy will become obsolete and stop working in Edge v95. Ensure that you update affected servers before then.

	It has been over a month since Microsoft <a href="https://www.neowin.net/news/microsoft-releases-powertoys-0414-fixing-awake-high-cpu-usage/" rel="external nofollow">released PowerToys 0.41.4</a> which was mainly a bug squashing release following the release of a new Toy to keep your PC awake, along with a few fixes and improvements. It appears the firm has been hard at work stamping out more bugs as it has skipped over a 0.42 release entirely and <a href="https://github.com/microsoft/PowerToys/releases/tag/v0.43.0" rel="external nofollow">released 0.43 instead</a>.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	Microsoft notes, as with the past few releases: "Our goals for the v0.43 release cycle primarily centered around stability updates and optimizations, installer updates, general bug fixes, and accessibility improvements." The changelog for 0.43 can be viewed below, and it's a long one:

	Mozilla plans to change the file download opening behavior in Firefox 91. Up until now, Firefox users may choose to save or open files that they want to download. Saving puts the files into the default download folder, and there are options to change the save folder.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	Opening on the other hand saved the file into the temporary folder of the system; this does not affect the initial opening of the file, say a torrent file in qBittorrent, a video in the default media player, or an image in an image viewer. Files are deleted automatically when the session ends and that led to problems for users who wanted to open the downloaded file again.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	Starting in Firefox 91, Firefox uses a different logic when it comes to the opening of file downloads. <a data-wpel-link="internal" href="https://www.ghacks.net/2021/06/28/firefox-91-download-behavior-when-opening-files-with-apps-changes/" rel="external nofollow">We reviewed part of the ne behavior</a> in June, namely that Firefox will save all files to the downloads folder regardless of whether users select the save option or the open option.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	<img alt="firefox-opening.png" class="ipsImage" data-ratio="49.58" height="227" width="720" src="https://mk0ghacksnety2pjrgh8.kinstacdn.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/08/firefox-opening.png">
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	One consequence of the new behavior is that downloads that are opened are not deleted anymore automatically. It is necessary now to clear these downloads manually.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	That is not the only change though. Firefox 91 will introduce functionality to open files from the download panel. The download panel displays all downloads, active, failed or completed, of the session. If you run Firefox 90 or earlier, you may have noticed that you cannot click on a download that is in progress to get the file opened as soon as the download completes.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	Firefox 91 introduces that option: just click on the download and Firefox will display the remaining time before the file is opened on the system.
</p>

<h3>
	Enable or disable Firefox's new downloading behavior
</h3>

<p>
	<img alt="firefox-browser.download.improvements_to" class="ipsImage" data-ratio="44.17" height="242" width="720" src="https://mk0ghacksnety2pjrgh8.kinstacdn.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/08/firefox-browser.download.improvements_to_download_panel.png">
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	Many features can be customized in Firefox. If you dislike the new downloading behavior, e.g. when you want files that get opened to be deleted automatically once the session closes, then you may configure Firefox to do so.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	Here is how that is done:
</p>

<p>

</p>

<ol>
	<li>
		Load about:config in the Firefox address bar.
	</li>
	<li>
		Confirm that you will be careful on the warning page.
	</li>
	<li>
		Search for browser.download.improvements_to_download_panel.
		<ol>
			<li>
				Set the value to TRUE to enable the new download behavior.
			</li>
			<li>
				Set the value to FALSE to disable the new download behavior.
			</li>
		</ol>
	</li>
</ol>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	It is possible that the preference may be removed at one point in time. For now, it is available and you may use it to configure the behavior in the web browser.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	Closing Words
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	The change brings Firefox's downloading behavior in line with that of the Chromium browsers. Firefox users who prefer the classic option may restore it once the change lands in the browser.
</p>

<p>

</p>

	<span style="font-size:14px;"><strong>Mozilla's Firefox is losing users big time since 2018, why are users moving away from it? Is this something to be worried about?</strong></span>
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	Mozilla’s Firefox is the only popular alternative to Chromium-based browsers.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	It has been the default choice for Linux users and privacy-conscious users across every platform.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	However, even with all benefits as one of the best web browsers around, it is losing its grip for the past few years.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	To be honest, we do not even need a stat to say that, many of us have switched over to Chromium-based browsers or Chromium itself instead of Firefox or Google Chrome.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	However, I came across a Reddit thread by u/nixcraft, which highlighted more details on the decline in the userbase of Firefox since 2018.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	And surprisingly, the original source for this information is Firefox’s Public Data Report.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p style="text-align:center;">
	<img alt="firefox-userbase-decline.png?resize=768," class="ipsImage" data-ratio="38.33" height="259" width="720" src="https://i2.wp.com/news.itsfoss.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/08/firefox-userbase-decline.png?resize=768,277&amp;ssl=1" />
</p>

<p style="text-align:center;">

</p>

<p>
	As per the official stats, the reported number of active (monthly) users was about <strong>244 million</strong> at the end of 2018.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	And, it seems to have declined to <strong>198 million </strong>at the end of <strong>Q2 2021</strong>.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	So, that makes it a whopping <strong>~46 million</strong> decline in the userbase.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	<strong>Firefox’s Decline is Concerning But Obvious</strong>
</p>

<p>
	<br />
	Considering 2021 is the year when privacy-focused tools saw a big boost in their userbase, Mozilla’s Firefox is looking at a constant decline.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	Especially when Firefox manages to introduce some industry-first privacy practices. Quite the irony, eh?
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	In case you have never used Firefox or have moved away for a long time, a comparison between Brave and Firefox highlights that it is still a solid web browser choice to date.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	So, why are users moving away to Chromium-based web browsers or Chrome in particular?
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	There are a few things that I can think of right off the bat:
</p>

<p>

</p>

<ul>
	<li>
		Google Chrome being the default web browser on Android
	</li>
	<li>
		Microsoft Edge as the default web browser for Windows (which naturally has a huge marketshare)
	</li>
	<li>
		Google.com (the biggest search engine) recommending users to install Google Chrome (which is potentially an anti-competitive behaviour)
	</li>
	<li>
		Some web services are exclusive to Chrome-based browsers
	</li>
</ul>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	In addition to that, there are also a few things that Firefox may have done wrong:
</p>

<p>

</p>

<ul>
	<li>
		Constantly breaking the user experience with major overhauls
	</li>
	<li>
		Lack of significant performance improvements in the recent years
	</li>
</ul>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	Of course, no web browser is perfect but is this something to worry about? Well, I think, yes.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	<strong>Here’s Why You Should be Worried</strong>
</p>

<p>
	<br />
	Mozilla’s Firefox is the only viable competitor to Chromium-based browsers. If Firefox disappears, users won’t have a choice to select a different browser engine.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	I’m sure you will agree that monopoly is bad; hence, we need something to survive as an alternative to Google’s chrome engine.
</p>

<p>
	In fact, a significant number of websites optimize the user experience by keeping chrome-based browsers in mind.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	So, eventually, if the declining trend continues, <strong>users like us may just be forced to switch to other browsers by adapting to new workflows.</strong>
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	Even if we ignore the dominant control of Google’s chrome engine on the web by arguing that it is technically better, Firefox is still something precious. Because it provides way more customizations and constantly improves its privacy practices unlike any other.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	In other words, we will be losing out on a lot of good things (forcefully) just because all the competition prefers using Chromium as its base or engage in anti-competitive activities.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	Maybe, you’re frustrated with Firefox now and move away to something else. That’s completely your choice.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	<strong>But, how would you feel if you won’t have an alternative when Firefox ceases to exist because of all the factors affecting its decline?</strong>
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p style="text-align:center;">
	<strong><img alt="firefox-survive.jpg?resize=768,432&amp;ssl=1" class="ipsImage" data-ratio="60.00" height="405" width="720" src="https://i1.wp.com/news.itsfoss.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/08/firefox-survive.jpg?resize=768,432&amp;ssl=1" /></strong>
</p>

<p style="text-align:center;">

</p>

<p>
	Hence, to keep things balanced, I think we should constantly oppose the anti-competitive behavior by tech giants and start using Mozilla Firefox (in whatever capacity, even as a secondary browser).
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	Of course, Mozilla needs to give this situation some serious attention as well.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	While they are busy introducing VPN services, email relays, and other service integrations, they are not succeeding with the user experience improvements.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	At least, that is what I think. I’ve used Firefox as my primary browser for years now but I end up switching to other browsers once in a while, especially, after every major UI overhaul.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	<strong>What Do You Think?</strong>
</p>

<p>
	<br />
	I’d love to know what you think about this and what seems to be affecting Firefox’s decline in the userbase.
</p>

<p>

<p>
	What do you prefer to use as your primary web browser? Let me know all of it in the comments down below!

	The release notes of Intel's <a href="https://www.neowin.net/news/intels-latest-graphics-driver-brings-windows-11-support-optimizes-f1-2021-and-more/" rel="external nofollow">graphics driver version 30.0.100.9684</a>, which launched back in July, contained a crucial bit of information that hinted at the possible Windows 11 launch date. According to the notes, it was looking like Microsoft was <a href="https://www.neowin.net/news/intel-may-have-revealed-the-possible-windows-11-release-schedule/" rel="external nofollow">planning for an October release</a> for the brand new OS. And today, we have even more evidence suggesting that the finding could indeed be true as even Microsoft's own <a href="https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/windows-hardware/design/compatibility/whcp-specifications-policies" rel="external nofollow">Windows Hardware Compatibility Program (WHCP)</a> blog post hints towards that.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	Spotted by Windows Latest, Microsoft posted this article back in June titled "Now accepting Windows 11, version 21H2 submissions". Basically, it appears that the Redmont Giant has requested all of its partners to submit drivers compatible with Windows 11 21H2 update by "September 24, 2021". Here's what the full statement reads:
</p>

<blockquote>
	<p>
		Partners looking to achieve compatibility for systems shipping with Windows 11, version 21H2 Release may factory-install drivers for components that achieved compatibility with Windows 10, version 2004 until September 24, 2021.
	</p>
</blockquote>

<p>
	So as it stands, the September 24, 2021 date essentially appears to be the deadline for the final submission of Windows 11 compatible drivers for Microsoft's partners. This means Windows 11 could indeed release in October or somewhere around that window.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	When inquired, Microsoft also clarified in the comments that this Windows Hardware Certification submission request was indeed for Windows 11 21H1 and not related to Windows 10 21H1.

		A mere day after it has launched, Microsoft has halted the free trial of their new Windows 365 Cloud PC product.

	<p>
		The change was announced by Scott Manchester, Director of Program Management, Windows 365, on Twitter earlier today.

		Microsoft says they have paused new free trials to allow the company to lay on new server capacity, and are encouraging those who are interested<a href="https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/windows-365" rel="external nofollow" target="_blank"> to sign up to be notified</a> when free trials will resume.
	</p>

	<p>

	</p>

	<p>
		Windows 365 runs on Microsoft Cloud, you can enjoy an instant-on boot experience on any device including your Windows, Mac, iPad, Android, and coming soon Linux device. You can pick up right where you left off, because the state of your Cloud PC remains the same, even when you switch devices.
	</p>

	<p>

	</p>

	<p>
		Because the service runs on remote servers, it does also leave you open to issues around the availability and resources of those servers.
	</p>

	<p>

	</p>

	<p>
		Windows 365 will be offered in two variants:
	</p>

	<p>

	</p>

	<ul>
		<li>
			Windows 365 Business (for organizations with up to 300 employees)
		</li>

		With the rolling out of <a href="http://www.neowin.net/news/microsoft-releases-the-fist-windows-11-build-for-the-beta-channel/" rel="external nofollow">Windows 11 build 22000.100 to the Windows Insiders Beta channel</a> last week, there are once again two paths of development for Windows 11. Live fast and loose with the latest relatively untested builds in the Dev channel, or opt for the more stable builds in the Beta channel. When we say relatively untested, this is somewhat untrue, Microsoft does put all builds through some internal testing before releasing them to the Dev channel, which can mean that <a href="https://twitter.com/windowsinsider/status/1245764371159977985" rel="external nofollow">builds get delayed</a> or<a href="https://www.neowin.net/news/microsoft-releases-windows-10-build-202111005-to-the-dev-channel-with-no-changes/" rel="external nofollow"> pulled after the fact</a> if blocking bugs are discovered.

	<p>
		Today we are going to show you how to switch to the Beta channel so that you only receive builds that have already been tested by Microsoft, and Windows Insiders in the Dev channel. The build may have even received a cumulative update that fixes issues found in the Dev channel, either way, it will be a much more stable experience.

	<p>
		First of all, click on <strong>Start &gt; Settings</strong>, alternatively you can right-click on Start and select Settings from the context menu, now select <strong>Windows Update</strong> in the left pane and then <strong>Windows Insider Program</strong>, as shown in the image above to open it.
	</p>

	<p>
		You will see the current build you are on, in this case, we're on the latest 22000.100 build delivered through the Dev channel of the Windows Insider Program. Go ahead and click on <strong>Dev</strong> to expand it.

	<p>
		Here you can opt to move to the <strong>Beta Channel</strong>, which is what we have done and is shown to be recommended as well. It is currently not possible to switch to the Release Preview Channel, as no such build of Windows 11 exists yet.
	</p>

	<p>

	</p>

	<p>
		Windows 11 does not prompt to restart upon changing Insider settings, and moving between other Settings pages and back to Windows Insider Program confirms that the change was made.
	</p>

	<p>

	</p>

	<p>
		In certain conditions, such as those people who modified the registry in order to <a href="https://www.neowin.net/news/how-to-get-windows-11-if-your-pc-does-not-meet-minimum-requirements/" rel="external nofollow">enroll for Windows 11 Insider updates back in June</a>, you may experience a "blank" Windows Insider Program settings page, or find you can't switch channels. To fix this, simply head to the official <a href="https://insider.windows.com/en-us/getting-started" rel="external nofollow">Windows Insider website</a> (on the same machine) and check that your device is registered. In our case, although our Virtual Machine was receiving new builds through Windows Update, we were shown as not being registered as a Windows Insider; upon registering on the Windows Insider Program page in Windows 11 it updated to show that we were in the Dev Channel which allowed us to make the above changes to the Beta Channel.

The service <a href="https://www.neowin.net/news/microsoft-announces-windows-365-cloud-pc-its-new-virtualized-os-offering/" rel="external nofollow">was announced</a> in July following a year of rumours at its Inspire conference. Currently, Windows 365 offers customers a new way to experience Windows 10 but it will soon offer <a href="https://www.neowin.net/news/how-to-switch-to-the-beta-channel-in-windows-11-insider-preview/" rel="external nofollow">Windows 11</a> when it becomes available later in the year.
	</p>

	<p>

	</p>

	<p>
		With this new service, Windows is hosted on Microsoft Cloud and customers can securely stream the full Windows experience, including their apps, data, and settings, to personal and corporate devices. With faster and more ubiquitous internet connections, hosting an operating system in the cloud and streaming it is finally feasible.

		Microsoft offers <a href="https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/windows-365/business/compare-plans-pricing" rel="external nofollow">three Windows 365 subscription tiers</a> with slight differences between the Business and Enterprise products. The three tiers are Basic, Standard, and Premium and cost $31.00, $41.00. and $66.00 per user per month respectively. The two main differences between the Business and Enterprise versions are that Business subscriptions are restricted to 300 users while Enterprise subscribers can have unlimited users. The second difference is that Business customers can access Windows 365 through <a href="http://windows365.microsoft.com" rel="external nofollow">windows365.microsoft.com</a> while Enterprise customers will have it integrated with Microsoft Endpoint Manager.
	</p>

	<p>

	</p>

	<p>
		On the Basic tier, you’ll get 2 vCPUs, 4 GB RAM, and 128 GB storage; this tier is suitable for light productivity tools and web browsers. The Standard tier gives you 2 vCPUs, 8 GB RAM, and 128 GB storage; Microsoft says this tier is suitable for running a full range of productivity tools and line-of-business apps. Finally, the Premium tier gives you 4 vCPUs, 16 GB RAM, and 128GB storage; this tier is ideal for running high-performance workloads and heavier data processing.
	</p>

	<p>

	</p>

	<p>
		If you’re not content with the defaults for these tiers and want to customise your subscription, Microsoft also offers a <a href="https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/windows-365/all-pricing" rel="external nofollow">full list of tiers</a> with prices ranging from $20.00 per user per month to $162.00 per user per month. Microsoft's Windows 365 Cloud PC service is now generally available, allowing businesses to deploy Windows 10 desktops in the cloud for prices ranging between $24 and $162 per device.

	<p>
		At the Inspire 2021 conference, Microsoft revealed their new Windows 365 cloud-based virtual desktop experience that allows businesses to deploy Windows 10 Cloud PCs, with Windows 11 later, on the cloud.
	</p>

	<p>

	</p>

	<p>
		This service runs on top of Azure Virtual Desktop but includes a redesigned interface making it easier to manage and access a Cloud PC.

	<p>
		The new service comes in two flavors, <a href="https://techcommunity.microsoft.com/t5/windows-it-pro-blog/get-started-with-windows-365-business/ba-p/2595485" rel="external nofollow" target="_blank">Windows 365 Business</a> (up to 300 users) and <a href="https://techcommunity.microsoft.com/t5/windows-it-pro-blog/get-started-with-windows-365-enterprise/ba-p/2530504" rel="external nofollow" target="_blank">Windows 365 Enterprise</a>, which have significant differences in features, as listed in the table below.

	Windows 11 future updates: Here's everything you need to know
</h1>

<div>
	<p>

	</p>

	<p>
		With Windows 11, Microsoft is retaining Windows 10's servicing model known as 'Windows as a Service (WaaS)'. As part of WaaS, Microsoft plans to deliver an always up-to-date experience with the latest features and security updates.
	</p>

	<p>

	</p>

	<p>
		In a <a href="https://docs.microsoft.com/en-in/windows/deployment/update/quality-updates" rel="external nofollow" target="_blank">support document</a>, Microsoft confirmed that Windows 11 will get all updates currently offered to Windows 10, including Patch Tuesday, optional preview, OOB (out of band), and more.
	</p>

	<p>

	</p>

	<p>
		However, there will be one change to the update cadence: Windows 11 will be updated once a year with new features, and that feature update will be released in the second half of the year.
	</p>

	<h2>
		Windows 11 Cumulative Updates
	</h2>

	<p>
		The cumulative updates, otherwise known as monthly updates or Patch Tuesday, will be released at least once a month and include quality improvements, bug fixes, and security fixes.
	</p>

	<p>

	</p>

	<p>
		Different types of Windows 11 updates::
	</p>

	<p>

	</p>

	<ul>
		<li>
			Windows 11 “B” release or Patch Tuesday updates will be published on the second Tuesday of each month, known as Patch Tuesday, with security improvements and sometimes quality fixes. On the same day, Windows 10 will also receive updates with identical fixes.
		</li>
		<li>
			Windows 11 “C” and “D” releases: These updates will be released in the third and fourth weeks of the month respectively.
		</li>
	</ul>

	<h2>
		Compatibility and Reliability Update
	</h2>

	<p>
		Compatibility and Reliability Updates (out-of-band) releases do not follow the standard release schedule, and they can be released ahead of a feature update to ease the installation experience.
	</p>

	<h2>
		Microcode updates
	</h2>

	<p>
		Microsoft will still offer Intel microcode updates to mitigate known vulnerabilities or hardware issues in CPU if necessary.
	</p>

	<h2>
		Update for Windows Defender Antivirus
	</h2>

	<p>
		Definition Update for Windows Defender Antivirus will be released regularly to update the detections used by Microsoft Defender Antivirus.
	</p>

	<h2>
		Malicious Software Removal Tool
	</h2>

	<p>
		Windows 11 is technically Windows 10 (NT.10) and it will also get Malicious Software Removal Tool updates every month to remove known infections from a computer.
	</p>

	<h2>
		Windows 11 LTSC
	</h2>

	<p>
		For those who prefer to use Windows versions for an extended period of time, Microsoft is planning to offer LTSC version of Windows 11, but we don't know when the LSTC version will be released.

<p>
	Tab Groups is one of my favourite Chromium features, and Google has recently added a number of features which makes it easier to manage this handy tool.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	The latest is the ability to open a folder of bookmarks as a tab group.
</p>

<p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	When you do, Chrome will automatically prompt you to name and colour code the tab group.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	Chrome will now also save and let you restore individual tab groups from history. Before you could only restore individual tabs, not groups of tabs.
</p>

<p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	The features are now currently available in the latest Chrome Canary builds, and with Tab Groups now supported by default on Edge, will hopefully come to the whole Chromium ecosystem soon.

	Registry Explorer is the registry editor every Windows user needs
</h1>

<div>
	<p>

	</p>

	<p>
		Last week, a new open-source Registry Editor was released that puts Windows Regedit software to shame by supporting a host of advanced features, making editing the Registry easier than ever.
	</p>

	<p>

	</p>

	<p>
		The <a href="https://www.bleepingcomputer.com/tutorials/demystifying-the-windows-registry/" target="_blank" rel="external nofollow">Windows Registry</a> is a centralized, hierarchical database used by the operating system to store system settings, hardware configurations, and user preferences.
	</p>

	<p>

	</p>

	<p>
		If you are a Windows administrator or power user, then you have likely made changes to the Registry at one point using Windows built-in Registry Editor (regedit.exe) to fix a bug or tweak a configuration setting.
	</p>

	<p>

	</p>

	<p>
		However, Microsoft has not made many changes to the Registry Editor over the years to modernize the application, and many useful features are missing that people may want.
	</p>

	<h2>
		Enter Registry Explorer
	</h2>

	<p>
		Last weekend, Windows Internals expert <a href="https://twitter.com/zodiacon" rel="external nofollow" target="_blank">Pavel Yosifovich</a> released a program called Registry Explorer that aims to modernize the registry editor with a slew of new features.
	</p>

	<p>

	</p>

	<p>
		Registry Explorer was released as an open-source project <a href="https://github.com/zodiacon/RegExp" rel="external nofollow" target="_blank">on GitHub</a>. Still, for those who do not want to compile the program, Yosifovich has also released a <a href="https://github.com/zodiacon/RegExp/releases/tag/v0.7" rel="external nofollow" target="_blank">precompiled beta version</a> that can be downloaded and launched immediately.
	</p>

	<p>

	</p>

	<p>
		After running Registry Explorer, you will be greeted with a view of all the Registry hives, which users can expand to see their subkeys and values just like the standard Windows Registry editor.
	</p>

	<div>
		<figure>
			<p>

			</p>

			<p>
				<img alt="registry-explorer.jpg" class="ipsImage" data-ratio="75.10" height="413" width="720" src="https://www.bleepstatic.com/images/news/software/r/registry-explorer/registry-explorer.jpg">
			</p>

			<figcaption>
				Registry Explorer
			</figcaption>
		</figure>
	</div>

	<p>
		However, where the program shines is an included dark mode, the ability to copy and paste keys and values to different locations, an undo changes button, and an advanced search feature.
	</p>

	<p>

	</p>

	<p>
		Registry Explorer's search feature is far more advanced than regedit's as it allows you to find and display all search results in a single dialog box, as shown below. You can then look through the search results and double-click an entry to open that Registry key or value automatically.
	</p>

	<div>
		<figure>
			<p>

			</p>

			<p>
				<img alt="registry-search.jpg" class="ipsImage" data-ratio="75.10" height="418" width="720" src="https://www.bleepstatic.com/images/news/software/r/registry-explorer/registry-search.jpg">
			</p>

			<figcaption>
				Registry Explorer showing all the Registry search results in one window
			</figcaption>
		</figure>
	</div>

	<p>
		Making the wrong change to the Registry could cause Windows not to operate correctly, Registry Explorer starts in a 'Read Only Mode' that prevents you from making changes until the mode is turned off.
	</p>

	<p>

	</p>

	<p>
		A full list of features in Registry Explorer are listed below:
	</p>

	<p>

	</p>

	<ul>
		<li>
			Show real Registry (not just the standard one)
		</li>
		<li>
			Sort list view by any column
		</li>
		<li>
			Key icons for hives, inaccessible keys, and links
		</li>
		<li>
			Key details: last write time and number of keys/values
		</li>
		<li>
			Displays MUI and REG_EXPAND_SZ expanded values
		</li>
		<li>
			Full search (Find All / Ctrl+Shift+F)
		</li>
		<li>
			Enhanced hex editor for binary values
		</li>
		<li>
			Undo/redo
		</li>
		<li>
			Copy/paste of keys/values
		</li>
	</ul>

	<p>

	</p>

	<p>
		Even better, if you find you really like Registry Explorer, you can configure it to automatically replace the Windows Registry editor and be the default file handler for .reg file.
	</p>

	<p>

	</p>

	<p>
		If you find yourself constantly editing the Windows Registry, searching for values, or exporting your configuration to .reg files, then I strongly suggest you give Registry Explorer a try as you will likely find many of the features very useful.
	</p>

	<p>

	</p>

	<p>
		To try Registry Explorer, you can visit the <a href="https://github.com/zodiacon/RegExp" rel="external nofollow" target="_blank">project's GitHub page</a>.

	When you are using a sheet with very large cells, sometimes the “snap to grid” functionality in Excel can make it harder to view the data you want. We’ve fixed this issue by making the scrolling much smoother—no more snapping to rows and columns. You’re now able to stop scrolling partially through a row or column, and Excel will not force the sheet to snap to the edges.

	<span style="font-size:28px;"><strong>Tech spec experts seek allies to tear down ISO standards paywall</strong></span>
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	<span style="font-size:18px;"><em><strong>Open letter drafted against what's seen as unjustified profiteering</strong></em></span>
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	Many of the almost 24,000 technical standards maintained by the International Standards Organization (ISO) are subject to copyright restrictions and are not freely available.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	Two weeks ago, Jon Sneyers, senior image researcher at Cloudinary and co-chair of the JPEG XL (ISO/IEC 18181) adhoc group, invited fellow technical experts to collaborate on an open letter urging the ISO to set its standards free.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	In an email to The Register, Sneyers explained that paywalled, copyrighted standards inhibit education and innovation.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	"Specifically for JPEG XL (or codecs in general), a free spec makes it a lot easier for external enthusiasts to make an alternative implementation," he said "Often this would be done as a free-and-open-source software hobby project, not necessarily with the goal to make a better implementation, but just as a personal learning project. With a free spec, there might be a few of such attempts, some failing, some succeeding."
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	The value of alternative implementations, he contends, is that they help verify the correctness of the spec. He notes that libjxl, the reference implementation of the JPEG XL spec, is the only such library at the moment, which makes it less likely discrepancies between the spec and the implementation will be found and more likely that libjxl, compliant or not, will become the de facto standard, thereby diluting the authority of the ISO spec.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	"With a paywalled spec, there will likely be no such attempts, because a hobbyist is unlikely to pay a big fee up front just to read the spec (which is something you'd do before you even decide to have a go at it and try to implement it)," he said.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	Via Twitter, Ian Graham, senior lecturer in operations management at the University of Edinburgh, explained the problem with paywalled specifications succinctly. "It is very difficult to teach about ISO standards when the students can't access them," he said.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	The collaborative open letter notes that in 2019 the Switzerland-based ISO, which through its national affiliates brought in 6.6m CHF ($7.28m) from publications sales and 12.9m CHF ($14.23m) in royalties from publication sales by national affiliates, earned almost as much in spec fees as the organization collected in membership fees that year (21.2m CHF or $23.39m USD).
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	And it claims that the ISO Central Secretariat has "begun strictly and narrowly enforcing the criteria for Publicly Available Standards (PAS)" by paywalling new editions of standards that were formerly free, redefining Technical Reports so they can no longer be free under any circumstances, and "pressuring other standard organizations with which it collaborates and that have a policy of publicly available standards (e.g. ITU-T), to change their policy towards making joint documents non-publicly available."
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	Sneyers believes the ISO should be moving in the opposite direction by tearing down its paywall.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	"I think international standards are great for worldwide interoperability and as a way to do knowledge transfer: collecting best practices and international expertise and condensing it into a standard," he said. "I see a paywall as a significant obstacle to that."
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	A handful of other technical experts have already signaled their agreement as co-signatories, including:
</p>

<p>

</p>

<ul>
	<li>
		Luca Versari, ISO/IEC JTC 1 / SC 29 / WG 1, editor of ISO/IEC 18181 (JPEG XL)
	</li>
	<li>
		Leonard Rosenthol, Chair of ISO TC 171/SC 2, member of various TC’s including ISO/IEC JTC 1 / SC 29 / WG 1 and project leader for over a dozen different standards.
	</li>
	<li>
		Bryce Adelstein Lelbach, ISO/IEC JTC 1 / SC 22 / WG21 (C++) / LEWG chair, INCITS (US) PL22 chair
	</li>
	<li>
		Jeff Hammond, ISO/IEC JTC 1 / SC22 / WG5 (Fortran) and WG21 (C++) contributor
	</li>
	<li>
		JF Bastien, SC22 / WG21 (C++) EWG Chair
	</li>
	<li>
		Eric Portis, W3C WICG &amp; WHATWG participant
	</li>
	<li>
		Patrick H. Lauke, W3C PEWG chair, W3C AGWG member
	</li>
</ul>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	The letter cites numerous arguments for a policy change. Among them: resentment from technical experts who write standards without compensation only to see the ISO charge for their free labor; the risk of irrelevancy if experts choose to pursue standardization through other organizations that don't charge; and the possibility that the ISO's reputation for neutrality will be tarnished if it's perceived as a for-profit entity.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	The ISO did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	Sneyers's campaign echoes similar paywall demolition initiatives, such as the ongoing effort to make US court document service Pacer available at no charge, as well the late Aaron Schwartz's attempt to open up JSTOR, and, of course, Sci-Hub.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	Carl Malamud, a public domain advocate and president of public.resource.org, lauded Sneyer's effort to change the ISO.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	"Standards that are not freely available lose their very reason for being," said Malamud, who has spent years working to make US government documents freely available. "Standards required by law that are not freely available are a violation of a key principle of the rule of law: that the law must be promulgated to be valid. This is particularly true for public safety standards. ISO will lose relevance in our modern world if they do not change their approach to this important issue. They are on the wrong side of justice with their current stance."
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	"This effort by so many senior ISO participants to make sure their important work remains relevant is very commendable," he added. "I hope they will have some impact on the organization."
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	Sneyers said he has no immediate plans to present this letter, which he hopes will spur discussion of reform within the national standardization bodies. He said he has been reaching out to other ISO members who share his view about the need to make standards freely available, but he is considering opening the movement up to the public and policymakers.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	"The national bodies (ANSI, DIN, etc) are where this discussion will have to be had first, because they are the only ones that can really influence ISO," he said. "I am mostly just trying to give ammunition to those who want to start that discussion." ®

	Microsoft offers more detail on auto-delete of Microsoft Teams meeting recordings
</h1>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	We recently reported that Microsoft is planning to offer a feature where <a href="https://mspoweruser.com/you-will-soon-be-able-to-automatically-delete-meeting-recordings-in-microsoft-teams/" rel="external nofollow">Microsoft Teams recordings will be automatically deleted</a> after a set period unless other action is taken, a good companion to Microsoft Team’s automatic meeting recording feature.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	Now Microsoft has offered more detail on the feature and its rollout.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	Microsoft says new recordings will automatically expire 60 days after they are recorded if no action is taken. The 60-day default was chosen as, on average across all tenants, most meeting recordings are never watched again after 60 days. However, this setting can be modified if a different expiration timeline is desired.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	To change the default expiration days at the tenant level, there will be two methods available.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<ol>
	<li>
		You can use PowerShell to modify “MeetingRecordingExpirationDays.” This can be done at any time, as the setting is present in PowerShell today even though the feature is not yet enabled. An example command is: “Set-CsTeamsMeetingPolicy -Identity Global -MeetingRecordingExpirationDays 50”
	</li>
	<li>
		As this feature is rolled out, a new setting will be available in the Teams admin centre.
	</li>
</ol>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	Users (except for users with A1 licenses) can also modify the expiration date for any recordings on which they have edit/delete permissions, using the files details pane in OneDrive or SharePoint. A1 users will receive a 30-day expiration default that can be reduced but not increased. To retain recordings for longer than 30 days A1 users will need to download the file to a non-synced folder.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	At either the tenant or user level (excluding A1 users as noted above), the expiration timeline can range from one day to several years, or even set to never auto-expire.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	Additional clarifications:
</p>

<p>

</p>

<ul>
	<li>
		The expiration setting is not a retention setting. For example, setting a 30-day expiration on a file will trigger an auto-deletion 30 days after the file was created, but it will not prevent a different system or user from deleting that file ahead of that schedule.
	</li>
	<li>
		When a recording is deleted due to the expiration setting, the end user will be notified via email. The SharePoint tenant or site admin, or the end user with edit/delete permissions will be able to retrieve the file from the recycle bin for up to 90 days.
	</li>
	<li>
		Any retention/deletion/legal hold policies you have designated in the Compliance centre will override this feature. In other words, if there is a conflict between your designated Compliance policy setting and the expiration setting, the compliance policy timeline always wins.
	</li>
	<li>
		The admin does not have the ability to override end-user modification capabilities.
	</li>
	<li>
		This will not impact any existing meeting recordings created before the feature is deployed. Also, any changes to the default date in the admin console will only apply to newly created meeting recordings after the change is made.
	</li>
	<li>
		The expiration days setting in Teams is controlled only via MeetingRecordingExpirationDays. CallRecordingExpirationDays is currently being ignored.
	</li>
	<li>
		The min number of days that can be set on MeetingRecordingExpirationDays is 1 and the maximum is 99,999 (e.g. 273 years).
	</li>
	<li>
		This feature does not impact meeting recordings stored in Microsoft Stream (classic Stream) but will affect recordings stored in the new Stream (built on OneDrive and SharePoint).
	</li>
	<li>
		This feature is only available for Teams meeting recordings created by the Teams service in OneDrive and SharePoint. It is not available for other file types in OneDrive and SharePoint.
	</li>
</ul>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	<strong>What you need to do to prepare:</strong>
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	The feature will be rolling out in late September through mid-November.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	If you want the default expiration to be different than 60 days, modify it via PowerShell or (once available) in the admin centre.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	Microsoft Teams admins can learn more about the feature in these <a href="https://docs.microsoft.com/microsoftteams/cloud-recording#auto-expiration" rel="external nofollow" target="_blank">FAQs</a>.

	Windows 10 now lets you install WSL with a single command
</h1>

<p>

	</p><div>
		<p>
			Microsoft says the Windows Subsystem for Linux (WSL) can now be installed on Windows 10, version 2004 or later using a single terminal command.
		</p>

		<p>

		</p>

		<p>
			"In the latest Windows Insider Preview builds, you can install everything you need to run WSL just by running wsl.exe --install," Windows Developer Platform Program Manager Craig Loewen <a href="https://devblogs.microsoft.com/commandline/install-wsl-with-a-single-command-now-available-in-windows-10-version-2004-and-higher/" rel="external nofollow" target="_blank">said</a>.
		</p>

		<p>

		</p>

		<p>
			"We’re excited to announce that this functionality is now officially backported to Windows 10 version 2004 and higher, which will make installing WSL on those builds much easier!"
		</p>

		<p>

		</p>

		<p>
			To get access to this new feature, you have to update your computer to Windows 10 2004 or later via Windows Update or install the <a href="https://www.bleepingcomputer.com/news/microsoft/windows-10-gaming-issues-fixed-in-kb5004296-how-to-download/" target="_blank" rel="external nofollow">KB5004296 preview cumulative update</a>, which also comes with fixes for fixes Windows 10 gaming issues.
		</p>

		<h2>
			How to install and use WSL
		</h2>

		<p>
			While previously you had to jump through several hoops such as installing multiple packages and toggling on several OS settings, now you only have to open a Command Prompt window as administrator and run the wsl.exe --install command.
		</p>

		<p>

		</p>

		<p>
			This automatically enables WSL and installs Ubuntu as the default distro and the latest WSL Linux kernel version on the device.
		</p>

		<p>

		</p>

		<p>
			After the installation process is completed and the computer is rebooted, the newly deployed Ubuntu distribution will automatically start logging in.
		</p>

		<p>

		</p>

		<p>
			Once WSL is installed, you can use wsl --update to update the Linux kernel and wsl --update rollback to switch to a previous kernel version.
		</p>

		<p>

		</p>

		<p>
			You can also use wsl --status to get an overview of your WSL configuration, including the default distro type, default distro, and the currently installed Linux kernel version.
		</p>

		<h2>
			A short WSL history
		</h2>

		<p>
			WSL was <a href="https://www.bleepingcomputer.com/news/microsoft/microsoft-releases-tool-for-running-any-linux-os-on-windows-10/" target="_blank" rel="external nofollow">released in 2018</a> and it is designed as a compatibility layer that makes it possible for Windows 10 users to run Linux binaries in ELF format natively on their computers, in a PowerShell or Windows 10 command prompt.
		</p>

		<p>

		</p>

		<p>
			Since the initial release, Microsoft has also launched <a href="https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/wsl/compare-versions" rel="external nofollow" target="_blank">WSL 2</a>, which increases file system performance, supports full system call compatibility, and uses virtualization tech to run a full Linux kernel inside a lightweight virtual machine (VM).
		</p>

		<p>

		</p>

		<p>
			Even though users have been asking Microsoft to also add support for the Wayland protocol in WSL to allow GUI Linux apps to work on Windows <a href="https://github.com/microsoft/WSL/issues/938" rel="external nofollow" target="_blank">since at least 2016</a>, the company only announced that it would introduce Linux GUI support last year at <a href="https://devblogs.microsoft.com/commandline/the-windows-subsystem-for-linux-build-2020-summary/" rel="external nofollow" target="_blank">BUILD 2020</a>.
		</p>

		<p>

		</p>

		<p>
			The new feature, dubbed <a href="https://github.com/microsoft/wslg" rel="external nofollow" target="_blank">WSLg</a> (short for Windows Subsystem for Linux GUI), was released in April and began rolling out to all Insiders in May with the rollout of Windows 10 Insider Preview Build 21364 to the Dev Channel.
		</p>

		<p>

		</p>

		<p>
			As previously described, WSLg allows you to use Linux GUI applications in Windows as you would use them on a Linux desktop.
		</p>

		<p>

		</p>

		<p>
			Microsoft provides <a href="https://github.com/microsoft/wslg#install-and-run-gui-apps" rel="external nofollow" target="_blank">step-by-step guidance</a> on how to install and launch Linux GUI apps on your PC. Once installed, these Linux apps can be launched from the Start menu or a Command Prompt window.

		When a background activity from an app requires attention, the app will flash on the Taskbar to get your attention. In Windows 11, Microsoft has updated this design so that it still grabs your attention but with a calming treatment that minimizes the impact of unwarranted distractions. The subtle flashing eventually stops, and you will see a slightly red backplate and red pill under the app icon continuing to note a background activity that needs your attention.

	</h1>
</header>

<div itemprop="articleBody">
	<p>

	</p>

	<p>
		Microsoft has released cumulative updates for the three most recent versions of Windows 10, along with version 1909 currently supported for specific SKUs, as part of its “C” week release. These optional “quality” updates are usually released one or two weeks <a href="https://www.neowin.net/news/windows-10-patch-tuesday-updates-are-out-now-heres-whats-new/" rel="external nofollow">after Patch Tuesday</a>. These fixes will also be rolled into the next month’s Patch Tuesday updates for those who choose to avoid installing these patches.
	</p>

	<p>

	</p>

	<p>
		The update rolling out to Windows 10 versions 2004, 20H2, and 21H1 is <a href="https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/topic/july-29-2021-kb5004296-os-builds-19041-1151-19042-1151-and-19043-1151-preview-6aba536a-6ed2-41cb-bc3d-3980e8693cc4" rel="external nofollow">KB5004296</a>, bumping up the build numbers to 19041.1151, 19042.1151, and 19043.1151, respectively. Since the three versions are based on the same codebase – with versions 20H2 and 21H1 being just enablement packages –, they are serviced with identical patches.
	</p>

	<p>

	</p>

	<p>
		The same update will soon roll out to Insiders running Windows 10 version 21H2 in the Release Preview channel, bumping the version to 19044.1151. These are Insiders that were moved from the Beta channel to Release Preview due to the incompatibility of their systems for Windows 11. Users with compatible devices, however, <a href="https://www.neowin.net/news/microsoft-releases-the-fist-windows-11-build-for-the-beta-channel/" rel="external nofollow">received the first Windows 11 build today</a>.
	</p>

	<p>

	</p>

	<p>
		As for what’s new with the updates, there is the usual crop of bug fixes, addressing issues with gaming reliability and more. While the changelog does note a fix for a printing issue when using a USB connection, the firm is yet to address the problem relating to <a href="https://www.neowin.net/news/windows-july-update-breaks-printing-and-scanning-when-using-smart-cards/" rel="external nofollow">printing and scanning when using smart card authentication</a>.
	</p>

	<p>

	</p>

	<p>
		Here are the highlights of the updates heading out to versions 2004, 20H2, and 21H1:
	</p>

	<blockquote>
		<ul>
			<li>
				Updates an issue that prevents gaming services from opening certain games for desktop users.
			</li>
			<li>
				Updates an issue that prevents you from entering text using the Input Method Editor (IME). This might occur, for example, after startup if you have set the power options to shut down a laptop by closing its lid.
			</li>
			<li>
				Updates an issue that plays the sound for selecting something in a game loudly when you press the trigger button on a game controller.
			</li>
			<li>
				Updates an issue that prevents power plans and Game Mode from working as expected. This results in lower frame rates and reduced performance while gaming.
			</li>
			<li>
				Updates an issue that fails to detect that you are connected to the internet after you connect to a virtual private network (VPN).
			</li>
			<li>
				Updates an issue that causes printing to stop or prints the wrong output. This issue occurs when you print using a USB connection after updating to Windows 10, version 2004 or later.
			</li>
		</ul>
	</blockquote>

	<p>
		And here is the complete list of fixes, which is a fairly long one:
	</p>

	<blockquote>
		<ul>
			<li>
				Addresses an issue with searchindexer. After you sign out, searchindexer continues to hold handles to the per user search database in the profile path, “C:\Users\username\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Search\Data\Applications\\”. As a result, searchindexer stops working and duplicate profile names are created.
			</li>
			<li>
				Addresses an issue that prevents gaming services from opening certain games for desktop users.
			</li>
			<li>
				Addresses an issue that prevents you from entering text using the Input Method Editor (IME). This might occur, for example, after startup if you have set the power options to shut down a laptop by closing its lid.
			</li>
			<li>
				Changes the functionality for uploading new activity into Timeline. If you sync your activity history across your devices using your Microsoft account (MSA), you cannot upload new activity into the Timeline. You can still use Timeline and see your activity history (information about recent apps, websites, and files) on your local device. This does not affect Azure Active Directory (AAD) accounts. To view web history, Microsoft Edge and other browsers provide the option to view recent web activities. You can also view recently used files using Microsoft OneDrive and Microsoft Office.
			</li>
			<li>
				Addresses an issue that might cause the File Explorer window to lose focus when you are mapping a network drive.
			</li>
			<li>
				Addresses an issue that causes File Explorer to stop working after reaching 99% completion when you are deleting many files on a mapped network drive.
			</li>
			<li>
				Addresses a timing issue in the Group Policy Registry Telemetry that causes Group Policy extension processing to fail.
			</li>
			<li>
				Addresses an issue that repeatedly rebuilds the Windows Filtering Platform (WFP) filters. This issue occurs when a device is enrolled in a mobile device management (MDM) service and “MDMWinsOverGP” is set.
			</li>
			<li>
				Addresses an issue with an MDM service that fails to correctly apply certain junk mail rules.
			</li>
			<li>
				Addresses an issue that always reports the update build revision (UBR) as zero (0) on a device during enrollment to an MDM service.
			</li>
			<li>
				Addresses an issue that causes the enrollment of the Elliptic Curve Digital Signature Algorithm (ECDSA) certificate to fail with the error, “0x80090027 NTE_INVALID_PARAMETER”. This issue occurs when the Trusted Platform Module (TPM) provider (the Microsoft Software Key Storage Provider) stores the key.
			</li>
			<li>
				Addresses an issue with auditing events 4624 and 5142 that display the wrong event template when Dutch is the display language.
			</li>
			<li>
				Addresses an issue that causes System Integrity to leak memory.
			</li>
			<li>
				Addresses an issue that plays the sound for selecting something in a game loudly when you press the trigger button on a game controller.
			</li>
			<li>
				Addresses an issue that prevents power plans and Game Mode from working as expected. This results in lower frame rates and reduced performance while gaming.
			</li>
			<li>
				Addresses an issue in which "Network Internal Access" appears on the taskbar network icon on systems that access the internet from certain domains.
			</li>
			<li>
				Addresses an issue in which the Network Connectivity Status Indicator (NCSI) fails to detect internet connectivity after you connect to a virtual private network (VPN).
			</li>
			<li>
				Addresses an issue that causes printing to stop or prints the wrong output. This issue occurs when you print using a USB connection after updating to Windows 10, version 2004 or later.
			</li>
			<li>
				Addresses a rare issue that might degrade performance in applications that call Gdiplus.dll!GdipMeasureString in a tight loop with a new font on each call. This issue occurs after installing Windows updates released on and after February 2021.
			</li>
			<li>
				Addresses an issue that incorrectly routes some audio channels when streaming using certain fixed channel layouts.
			</li>
			<li>
				Addresses an issue that always displays devices that RemoteFX USB redirects as "Remote Desktop Generic USB Device" instead of the actual device name.
			</li>
			<li>
				Addresses an issue in which Set-RDSessionCollectionConfiguration does not set the camerastoredirect:s:value custom property.
			</li>
			<li>
				Addresses a Local Security Authority Subsystem Service (LSASS) domain controller memory leak that is reported in Privileged Access Management (PAM) deployments.
			</li>
			<li>
				Addresses an issue that prevents you from accessing a network drive that maps to a Distributed File System (DFS) root after you sign out.
			</li>
			<li>
				Addresses an issue that prevents you from reconnecting to mapped network drives after you sign in and displays an access denied error. This issue occurs if you use the net use /deep option to create multiple drive mappings to different paths on the same encrypted file share.
			</li>
			<li>
				Addresses an issue that prevents access to files on a Server Message Block (SMB) share when you enable Access Enabled Enumeration (ABE).
			</li>
			<li>
				Addresses an issue that prevents the Windows Server service from starting if SrvComment is greater than 128 characters.
			</li>
			<li>
				Addresses an issue in the Windows Network File System (NFS) client that might prevent you from renaming a file after mounting an NFS share. This issue occurs if you rename the file using File Explorer, but does not occur if you rename the file using command line.
			</li>
			<li>
				Addresses an issue with an unhandled Open File dialog critical exception. As a result, Microsoft Foundation Class (MFC) applications might close unexpectedly.
			</li>
			<li>
				Adds a new policy that creates generic strings and removes branding-specific terms, such as “Windows” or “PC”, for IoT Enterprise editions. For example, we changed “computer” to “device”. Instead of "Getting Windows ready," we changed that to "Getting things ready" and so on. These generic strings display on a user’s screen when an update is in progress.
			</li>
			<li>
				Addresses an issue in which the Storage Sense page in Settings might incorrectly report the size of some storage devices that use the GUID Partition Table (GPT). The affected devices will incorrectly report in Storage Sense that the size is twice as large as the size reported in File Explorer.
			</li>

						Devices with Windows installations created from custom offline media or custom ISO image might have <a href="https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/microsoft-edge/what-is-microsoft-edge-legacy-3e779e55-4c55-08e6-ecc8-2333768c0fb0" rel="external nofollow" target="_blank">Microsoft Edge Legacy</a> removed by this update, but not automatically replaced by the new Microsoft Edge. This issue is only encountered when custom offline media or ISO images are created by slipstreaming this update into the image without having first installed the standalone servicing stack update (SSU) released March 29, 2021 or later.
					</p>

					<p>

					</p>

					<p>
						Note Devices that connect directly to Windows Update to receive updates are not affected. This includes devices using Windows Update for Business. Any device connecting to Windows Update should always receive the latest versions of the SSU and latest cumulative update (LCU) without any extra steps.
					</p>
				</td>
				<td>
					<p>
						To avoid this issue, be sure to first slipstream the SSU released March 29, 2021 or later into the custom offline media or ISO image before slipstreaming the LCU. To do this with the combined SSU and LCU packages now used for Windows 10, version 20H2 and Windows 10, version 2004, you will need to extract the SSU from the combined package. Use the following steps to extract the using SSU:
					</p>

					<p>

					</p>

					<ol>
						<li>
							Extract the cab from the msu via this command line (using the package for KB5000842 as an example): expand Windows10.0-KB5000842-x64.msu /f:Windows10.0-KB5000842-x64.cab
						</li>
						<li>
							Extract the SSU from the previously extracted cab via this command line: expand Windows10.0-KB5000842-x64.cab /f:*
						</li>
						<li>
							You will then have the SSU cab, in this example named SSU-19041.903-x64.cab. Slipstream this file into your offline image first, then the LCU.
						</li>
					</ol>

					<p>

					</p>

					<p>
						If you have already encountered this issue by installing the OS using affected custom media, you can mitigate it by directly installing the <a href="https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/edge" rel="external nofollow" target="_blank">new Microsoft Edge</a>. If you need to broadly deploy the new Microsoft Edge for business, see <a href="https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/edge/business/download" rel="external nofollow" target="_blank">Download and deploy Microsoft Edge for business</a>

	Vivaldi Browser 4.1 introduces Accordion Tabs and Automation

<div>
	<p>
		Vivaldi Technologies <a data-wpel-link="external" href="https://vivaldi.com/blog/vivaldi-introduces-accordion-tabs-and-command-chains/" rel="external nofollow" target="_blank">released</a> Vivaldi Browser 4.1 Stable on July 28, 2021. The new version of <a data-wpel-link="internal" href="https://www.ghacks.net/2016/04/06/vivaldi-web-browser-review/" rel="external nofollow">the Vivaldi Browser</a> is the first major version of the web browser after the release of <a data-wpel-link="internal" href="https://www.ghacks.net/2021/06/09/vivaldi-4-0-introduces-translate-feature-and-mail-calendar-and-feed-reader-functionality/" rel="external nofollow">Vivaldi 4.0</a>, which introduced beta versions of a mail client, feed reader and calendar among other improvements.
	</p>

	<h3>
		Vivaldi 4.1
	</h3>

	<p>
		Vivaldi 4.1 is already available and it is distributed automatically using the built-in updating functionality. Desktop users may select Vivaldi Menu &gt; Help &gt; Check for updates to run a manual check and get the new version downloaded and installed right away; the automatic distribution may take longer.
	</p>

	<h3>
		Accordion Tabs
	</h3>

	<p>

		<a data-wpel-link="internal" href="https://www.ghacks.net/2021/06/16/vivaldi-snapshot-2328-3-introduces-accordion-tab-stacking-and-silent-updates/" rel="external nofollow">Ashwin reviewed Accordion Tabs</a> recently already in a snapshot release of Vivaldi.
	</p>

	<p>

	</p>

	<p>
		The new browser version introduces a third Tab Stacking option. Vivaldi introduced support for tab stacks in the first release version of the browser and for <a data-wpel-link="internal" href="https://www.ghacks.net/2021/01/28/vivaldi-3-6-launches-with-two-level-tab-stacks-feature/" rel="external nofollow">two-level stacks in version 3.6</a>.
	</p>

	<p>

	</p>

	<p>
		Compact displays a small bar on top of the tab that reveals if multiple tabs are stacked. Two-Level adds another tabs toolbar that lists all available tabs of a stack when selected.
	</p>

	<p>

	</p>

	<p>
		The new Accordion tab stacking feature introduces yet another option. It adds a small icon to the right of tabs with stacks. The default behavior expands the selection automatically when a stacked tab is selected, but this can be disabled in the options; if that is the case, users need to click on the tab to expand the selection of tabs that it holds.
	</p>

	<p>

	</p>

	<p>
		Accordion Tabs work similarly to Chromium's Tab Grouping feature. It uses a single toolbar and allows users to expand or retract tab groups in that toolbar to display all included tabs or make room for other tabs.
	</p>

	<p>

	</p>

	<p>
		The new tab stacking option is not enabled by default. Open the Preferences and go to Tabs &gt; Tab Stacking to enable it.
	</p>

		Vivaldi 4.1 supports command chains, an option to automate multiple actions in the browser using a single command. <a data-wpel-link="internal" href="https://www.ghacks.net/2021/07/09/first-look-at-vivaldi-browsers-command-chains-feature/" rel="external nofollow">Command Chains</a> need to be set up before they become available.
	</p>

	<p>

	</p>

	<p>
		Command Chains may be used to open multiple webpages with a single command, or you may combine that with the creation of a new tab stack, or open a site in fullscreen and Reader Mode whenever you execute a command.
	</p>

	<p>
		New chains can be configured in the Preferences under Quick Commands &gt; Command Chains. You may assign keyboard shortcuts or mouse gestures to execute them with the shortcut or the gesture. Since Vivaldi's menus are fully customizable, you may also add command chains to one of the menus.
	</p>

	<p>

	</p>

	<p>
		Vivaldi 4.1 introduces silent updates on Windows to improve the updating behavior. You may disable the new behavior under Preferences &gt; General &gt; Updates &gt; Show Update Settings &gt; Automatically download and install updates.
	</p>

		Vivaldi's Reader Mode displays articles in a distraction-free reading environment. The tool displays an estimated reading length now when you open it.
