	</li>
	<li>
		Deletion of an Azure Virtual Desktop workspace now correctly removes all associated workspaces.
	</li>
	<li>
		Fixed an issue where adding a folder to redirect to a bookmark would enable the “Add” button with an empty PC name.
	</li>
	<li>
		Addressed an issue where double-clicking the title bar incorrectly stretched the session window.
	</li>
	<li>
		Updated the mouse to change to a hand glyph when hovering over a red input error indicator.
	</li>
	<li>
		Fixed an issue where the session window would flash rapidly in the “Mission Control” or “Application windows” view.
	</li>
</ul>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	In addition, we have continued to make updates to improve connectivity and performance metrics when connecting to Azure Virtual Desktop.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	Note that by default subscribed workspaces are refreshed every six hours. This interval can be changed using the ClientSettings.WorkspaceAutoRefreshInterval user default (minimum is 30 minutes and maximum is 24 hours).

	Happy Birthday, Linux. At 30 years old, you have made quite a reputation for yourself. Having spirited the rise of open-source software, you have turned the world of proprietary computing upside down.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	Of course, you had a bit of a premature start. You entered the world of technology with little more than a kernel to call your own. That was the intent of a young computer science student from Helsinki named Linus Torvalds in doing this personal fun project. In 1991, he created your code that would become the basis for a completely new approach to operating systems for computers.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	The rest of that story, as they say, is history.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	You suffered a name change at first. You started out being called Freax, as in “free,” “freak,” and “x” (referencing the Unix computer OS). But eventually, your creator came around to sharing his own lineage with you, christening you Linux.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	Linus and his would-be computer cohorts propped you up with other code components to talk to. That combination formed a growing list of Linux distributions to power a variety of free computer operating systems.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	Among the first was in 1992 was Slackware created by Patrick Volkerding. You both made a big hit for years holding an 80 percent share of the non-proprietary computer market. A few years later you had some great company. Some of Slackware’s popularity slid away, though, with the arrival of Red Hat Linux. But your kernel remained the soul of what makes Linux, well — Linux.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	In 1992, four dudes — Thomas Fehr, Roland Dyroff, Burchard Steinbild, and Hubert Mante — introduced you to a new playmate called the Suse Project. That creation formed Suse Linux. A few years later Suse spawned separate commercial desktop and server enterprise editions. OpenSuse joined the relatives as the free open-source version.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	<span style="font-size:20px;"><strong>More Family Diversity</strong></span>
</p>

<p>
	<br />
	Debian joined the family lineage as one of the first full-fledged Linux distributions in August 1993, created by Ian Murdock. It took him three more years to release the first stable version. What made your Debian cousin so significant was Murdock’s design for a Linux distro anyone could download and use for free. He eliminated the need for users to compile their own applications from source files.
</p>

<p>
	Murdock made Debian Linux user-friendly and easy to adopt by using a live CD. This made it possible for new adopters to check out Linux without actually installing it to run it.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	Business users got a special adoption boost when Red Hat Linux, which was released in 1995, debuted the Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) in 2003 as a paid support distro. Business-minded home users experienced a free community edition. Fedora became the proving ground for many of the features promoted to the RHEL releases.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	In 2000, Daniel Robbins brought into the Linux world Gentoo Linux. It targeted developers and enterprise users with a strong connection to an alternative Unix-like BSD operating system that made managing networks easier.
</p>

<p>
	<br />
	That same year, Judd Vinet introduced the world to Arch Linux. It was based on the concept of rolling updated components into existing installations so major re-installation milestones were eliminated. This advanced concept geared the new distro toward more experienced users who were better equipped to handle the more complicated maintenance and configurations Arch coding required.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	<span style="font-size:20px;"><strong>A Touch of Modern</strong></span>
</p>

<p>
	<br />
	A major development in the adoption of the Linux OS for both industry and home occurred in 2004 with the release of Ubuntu Linux. Its founder, South African mogul Mark Richard Shuttleworth, developed Ubuntu to be an easier, friendlier way to use the young Linux OS. His company targeted home and SMB users along with major enterprise companies.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	A newer entrant to modernizing Linux’s popularity is the Linux Mint distribution. Started in 2006 by Clément Lefèbvre, it is based on Ubuntu and is intended to be very user-friendly and is especially good for beginners.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	Linux Mint came about as a result of a major design change in Ubuntu. Lefèbvre succeeded in picking up where Ubuntu diverted. One of its mainstays is the in-house development of the Cinnamon desktop environment.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	Another reason for Linux Mint’s growing popularity is its blending of some proprietary software to enhance user convenience in installing available options themselves. Other modern Linux distros do this as well. But Linux Mint makes this a focal point of its UI standard.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	<span style="font-size:20px;"><strong>Seemingly Limitless Options</strong></span>
</p>

<p>
	<br />
	Depending on the counting process and source, the actual number of Linux distributions is far more expansive today than in the first two decades of the Linux kernel. Some sources put that number at over 600 Linux distros with about 500 in active development. Still, other sources asses the number of Linux distros to exceed 1,000.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	It all depends on how you categorize the vast variety of form factors ranging among desktops, servers, laptops, netbooks, mobile phones, and tablets. Some distros are staffed by a single developer. Others encompass large communities of volunteers, designers, coders, and testers globally. It seems that for every Linux distro that goes inactive or fully disappears, one or more newcomers fill in the gap.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	All of this is the result of you, Mr. Birthday Linux. Your power and influence are awesome!
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	<span style="font-size:20px;"><strong>Inclusion With Diversity</strong></span>
</p>

<p>
	<br />
	The Linux OS unwittingly became a place for every possible old and new computing concept. Distro developers made many releases that mimicked and improved features and innovations from other distros. Depending on the whims of the Linux developers, different distros were offered for different folks’ computing styles.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	Two primary developmental pathways emerged. Either a new distro release would follow the design and operational philosophy of a particular Linux family — be it Gentoo, Arch, Debian, Suse, Fedora, etc. — or it would be an independent offering not based on any particular Linux family. Also, sub-families exist in Linux.
</p>

<p>
	<br />
	For Instance, a distro could be based on one major family line but create some of its own unique elements. Consider that a very popular Linux line is Ubuntu, which is technically based on Debian. Newer distros came along that were based directly on Ubuntu rather than the broader Debian ecosystem.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	Part of the derivative distro would be the unique application choices bundled in the release. Some derivatives lack access to many of the larger Linux families’ software repositories. Others have different update processes and package management tools for adding software.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	Another distinguishing component with the Linux OS is the concept of desktop environments. Some distros offer only one chosen desktop. Others provide a large collection of desktop options. Some distros are lightweight, meaning they run on older hardware that needs less RAM and less powerful internal components.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	These scaled-down designs often rely on window managers instead of fully-featured desktop environments. Much of the same can be said about the structure and operating components built into independent Linux distros as well.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	<span style="font-size:20px;"><strong>Designing Factors</strong></span>
</p>

<p>
	<br />
	This is what distinguishes the Linux OS from other alternatives like macOS and Windows operating systems. The operating environment can be classic Linux in design. It can be minimal, or it can be something more feature packed. It all comes down to the user interface (UI) and user preferences.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	Just as distro developers slice and dice the UI and Linux family components, so do they often modify existing features in the desktop design. So two different distros running the same desktop environment can be very different.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	Not every Linux distro runs the same Linux kernel, either. Some distro developers stave off potential compatibility issues with the newest kernel releases by waiting for a release cycle or two of their own distro products. Other distro developers base their latest distro upgrade around a just-released kernel version.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	<span style="font-size:20px;"><strong>Adding a Modern Touch</strong></span>
</p>

<p>
	<br />
	The Linux kernel, though 30 years old as the heart of the Linux OS, is not the same today than it was in its infancy. Torvalds oversees an ongoing process of updating the Linux kernel to provide better hardware, software, and security reliability.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	In the same way that Linux kernel developers and distro maintainers update, modify, and improve (or sometimes worsen) the performance, so do desktop environment communities. Once popular designs and functionalities can fall out of favor. Design changes can send users screaming to other options within Linux.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	That, too, is the power and flexibility that Linux acquired over these last three decades.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	So once again, Happy Birthday Linux. You have had great success with dominating enterprise-server jobs and taking over cloud computing.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	Still, you have yet to give us the Year of the Linux Desktop, though. But keep growing. Hopefully, you will have reason to celebrate that fete at an upcoming birthday.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	The options you provide make modern Linux an operating system like no other. You even have established your family ties in Android and Chrome OS. But those are accolades for other birthday celebrations.
</p>

<p>

	<span style="font-size:16px;"><strong>Chocolate Factory mum as remaining feed fans search for alternatives</strong></span>
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	Google has either turned off RSS support in Google Groups without telling anyone, or has failed to notice that RSS in Groups no longer functions.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	RSS, which stands for either RDF Site Summary or Really Simple Syndication, is an open content syndication protocol. It allows people to subscribe to feeds from websites and receive syndicated content from them through an app capable of reading XML-based data.
</p>

<p>
	Debuting in 1999, RSS evolved into different versions and variants, like Atom, and for a time about 15 years ago was quite popular as a way to receive updates about newly published content. When Google in 2013 decided to discontinue its RSS app Google Reader, it was a controversial decision. Mozilla distanced itself from RSS in 2018.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	Lately, RSS has been a low priority for tech companies focused on content distribution schemes that are easier to control and monetize, though it's still appreciated by those who need to follow updates across a wide range of websites.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	Google never made Groups RSS feeds obvious. RSS links were previously tucked away on the About page of any public Google Group. But now they've vanished entirely.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	Earlier this year, questions about the disappearance of RSS support in Google Groups began to appear on the Google Groups support website. The response provided by one of the non-Google moderators is that RSS feed support went away with the Google Groups desktop client redesign that debuted in May 2020 and rolled out thereafter. A mobile client design refresh followed in August 2020.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	While the Groups redesign may have removed references to RSS links on Groups' About pages, the RSS backend remained in place – Groups users could still subscribe to feeds if they knew how to form the URL and those feeds were still accessible until late last month.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	That was when netizens began to notice that their Google Groups RSS subscriptions no longer functioned. Mozilla's dev-security-policy mailing list, for example, relied on Google Groups RSS to distribute updates, and earlier this month switched to an alternative RSS service.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	<strong>Work around the problem</strong>
</p>

<p>
	<br />
	Those affected by the disappearance of RSS have suggested several workarounds, like using RSS.app to generate a feed from a specific Google Group. That approach however isn't ideal because generated feeds are not formatted the same way, so details like message timestamps don't carry over.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	In an email to The Register, Feross Aboukhadijeh, an open-source developer who runs Socket, expressed dismay that RSS has stopped working in Groups.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	"I'm disappointed that the RSS feeds feature was removed," said Aboukhadijeh. "It was working perfectly fine and probably only a minimal maintenance burden to the Groups team."
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	While many internet users today may not interact with RSS, the technology is nonetheless critical infrastructure for journalists, technologists, and researchers, he contends.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	"RSS is an open protocol for websites to share their information with other websites, apps, and services," he said. "It's used everywhere – it powers every podcast feed, and shares articles from almost every major news website."
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	Aboukhadijeh also observed that many programming communities, like Node.js, use Google Groups to announce critical security issues. "Anyone relying on the Google Group RSS feed to consume these security notices will stop getting critical security notices until they directly subscribe by email to the group," he said.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	"Another casualty of this change is the @IntentToShip Twitter account which posts when browser makers announce their intent to ship, change, or remove features in their web engines," Aboukhadijeh added.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	"The account is popular in the web standards community since it consolidates posts from many disparate Google Groups into a single feed. The removal of RSS in Google Groups broke their integration."
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	With the redesign announcement last year, Google said it would be deprecating – phasing out – 16 features, including Canned responses, Pinning topics, and Topic types, among others.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	RSS support, however, is not among the doomed features. If Google mentioned its plan to drop RSS from Groups at the time, it did so very quietly.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	The disappearance of RSS in Groups is all the more perplexing for Google's recent affirmation of RSS, or something like it, in Chrome for Android and its attempt to address its reputation for abruptly discontinuing services through the adoption of an enterprise API policy.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	The Register asked Google to comment and we've not heard back. ®
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	If you take a look at the Windows 11 Start Menu, you see a list of apps and links displayed at the top. Some of these are pinned, others are added automatically by Windows 11.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	Below that is the Recommended section. It displays recently added apps and recently opened files, but may also be used by Microsoft to display recommendations to the user.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	In fact, on a brand new Windows 11 system, you may see the "Get Started" recommendation in the section.

	Some Windows users may find these recommendations useful, others don't.  Just like on Windows 10, it is possible to disable the Recommended section on Windows 11 to hide the section in the Start Menu.

	Microsoft kept the options in the Settings application under Personalization. On Windows 10, you find the options under Settings &gt; Personalization &gt; Start.

<p>

</p>

<p>
	There you may disable the following content:
</p>

<p>

</p>

<ul>
	<li>
		Show recently added apps.
	</li>
	<li>
		Show the most used apps.
	</li>
	<li>
		Show suggestions occasionally in Start.
	</li>
	<li>
		Show recently opened items in Jump Lists on Start or the taskbar and in the File Explorer Quick Access.
	</li>
</ul>

<ol>
	<li>
		Select <strong>Start &gt; Settings &gt; Personalization</strong>.
	</li>
	<li>
		Look for <strong>Show recently added apps</strong> and turn it off.
	</li>
	<li>
		Look for <strong>Show most used apps</strong> and set it to off.
	</li>
	<li>
		Look for <strong>Show recently opened items in Start Jump List and File Explorer</strong> and turn it off.
	</li>
</ol>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	Changes take effect immediately. Just open Start, while Settings remains open, to test the change. Note that Recommended is still displayed, but you should not see any content anymore under the section once you have made the change. Unfortunately, there is no option to hide the section entirely to use it for something else.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	You may disable some of the options only, e.g. if you are interested in getting a list of recently installed applications, then you may keep that option enabled while disabling the other options.
</p>

<p>

</p>

	The Windows 11 start menu lacks customization options, even more so than the Windows 10 Start Menu. Some users may use the recommended section actively, others, who may not use it at all, are stuck with it nevertheless. <section>

		<p>
			Microsoft has begun prepping enterprises that may want to switch to an optional slower release cadence for the company's Edge browser.
		</p>

		<p>

		</p>

		<p>
			Earlier this year, Microsoft announced that Edge, which relies on the same core Chromium technologies as Google's Chrome, would follow that rival in <a href="https://www.computerworld.com/article/3611512/microsoft-follows-google-and-chrome-shifts-edge-to-four-week-release-pace.html" rel="external nofollow">shortening the interval between releases to four weeks</a>. (Prior to the announcement, Chrome and Edge updated every six to eight weeks.)
		</p>

		<p>

		</p>

		<p>
			The first in the four-week cycle will be version 94 of both Chrome and Edge. Google plans to debut Chrome 94 on Sept. 21 with the follow-on v. 95 appearing Oct. 19. Meanwhile, Microsoft will launch Edge 94 on Sept. 23 and Edge 95 on Oct. 21. (Microsoft has gotten into the habit of releasing the same-numbered Edge two days after the comparable Chrome upgrade.)
		</p>

		<div id="editorialfakesidebardiv">

		</div>

		<p>
			Starting with version 94, Chrome and Edge will also offer what's called an "Extended Stable" release that will use an eight-week interval rather than the default four. Obviously a sop to enterprise IT admins unhappy at the idea of a sped-up update tempo, Extended Stable releases will occur at every even-numbered version. The next Extended Stable releases will then be v. 96, v. 98 and so on for Edge (and Chrome).
		</p>

		<p>

		</p>

		<p>
			By default, Edge will update automatically every four weeks. The eight-week interval is thus opt-in, with the opting requiring use of the as-yet-undocumented TargetChannel group policy on the part of admins, or alternately, Intune from the Microsoft Endpoint Manager.
		</p>

		<p>

		</p>

		<p>
			(Organizations can also manually update Edge using Windows Server Update Services, or WSUS.)
		</p>

		<aside id="">

		</aside>

		<p>
			Some details about how Microsoft (or Google, for that matter, since Edge and Chrome are connected at the hip) will keep Extended Stable secure are still cloudy.
		</p>

		<p>

		</p>

		<p>
			Microsoft said last month that "important security patches and fixes will be delivered as needed independent of the selected release option," which implied that security updates for Extended Stable will continue in their current no-schedule-here fashion. (Google has never patched Chrome on a set schedule, unlike, say, Microsoft and Internet Explorer or Mozilla and Firefox.)
		</p>

		<aside id="">

		</aside>

		<p>
			But Google, which as the power behind Chromium should be the outfit in the know, said in March that, "security updates on Extended Stable will be released every two weeks to fix important issues, but those updates won't contain new features or all security fixes that the 4 week option will receive (emphasis added)."
		</p>

		<p>

		</p>

		<p>
			Because of the longer interval between releases for Edge's Extended Stable, Microsoft has also altered its support policy for the browser. Prior to Extended Stable — and still applicable to all four-week-cycle copies of Edge — Microsoft provided what it called "Assisted Support" for the current version (call it N) and the two previous versions (N-1 and N-2). Here's an example: The now-current version is v. 92, so Microsoft Assisted Support goes to v. 92, 91 and 90.
		</p>

		<p>

		</p>

		<p>
			(Assisted Support is just what it sounds like: when a technical support rep helps a user, whether by phone, chat, email, or other communications method. Security updates for Chromium browsers, Edge and Chrome included, are issued only for the most-current version, never for prior versions.)
		</p>

		<p>

		</p>

		<p>
			Extended Stable Edge, on the other hand, will be supported for N and N-1 only. When Edge 96 shows up, it and v. 94 will be eligible for Assisted Support.
		</p>

		<aside id="">

		</aside>

		<p>

	If you can't find your favorite Windows Subsystem for Linux distribution available in the Microsoft Store, a new program called EasyWSL can convert almost any Linux Docker image into a WSL distro.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	The Microsoft Store offers many prebuilt Linux WSL distributions such as Fedora, Ubuntu, Alpine, Kali, Debian, and more.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	However, many popular Linux distributions such as ArchLinux or Centos are unavailable or require you to pay for them.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	It is also concerning that many of the paid WSL distributions are not created by the original maintainers but third parties, raising concerns that they have tampered.
</p>

</div>

<p>
	To make it easier to find Linux distros that are not available in the Microsoft Store, cybersecurity firm <a href="https://redcodelabs.io/" rel="external nofollow" target="_blank">Red Code Labs</a> has created an open-source project called '<a href="https://github.com/redcode-labs/easyWSL" rel="external nofollow" target="_blank">EasyWSL</a>' that converts almost any Linux Docker image into WSL.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	"I felt that we can somehow bring more of Linux soul into Windows via WSL, something more than Microsoft has to offer in their Store," explained Red Code Labs regarding why they created EasyWSL.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	"Basically it was a great idea to use try using Arch and Gentoo and their repos at the first point, but then I realized, why not to somehow get images from Docker Hub, to make the possibilities even bigger."
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	Even better, as these distros are managed on Docker by the original maintainers, you know that the builds have not been modified to include malicious programs or code.
</p>

		</p>

		<figcaption>
			EasyWSL program
		</figcaption>
	</figure>
</div>

<p>
	As you can see, EasyWSL offers a wide-range of Linux distro that you can install, including:
</p>

<p>

</p>

<ul>
	<li>
		ArchLinux
	</li>
	<li>
		Ubuntu 20.04
	</li>
	<li>
		Ubuntu 20.10
	</li>
	<li>
		Alpine
	</li>
	<li>
		DebianStable
	</li>
	<li>
		DebianUnstable
	</li>
	<li>
		DebianTesting
	</li>
	<li>
		CentOS
	</li>
	<li>
		Clear Linux
	</li>
	<li>
		Fedora
	</li>
	<li>
		Manjaro
	</li>
	<li>
		Scientific Linux
	</li>
	<li>
		Crux Linux
	</li>
	<li>
		Void Linux
	</li>
	<li>
		Kali Linux
	</li>
	<li>
		OpenSuse Leap
	</li>
	<li>
		Parrot Security OS
	</li>
	<li>
		Gentoo
	</li>
</ul>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	However, if the Linux distro you are looking for is unavailable, you can use the EasyWSL to install a Docker image of your choice in WSL.
</p>

<h2>
	How to convert a Linux docker image to WSL
</h2>

<p>
	For example, the popular <a href="https://hub.docker.com/_/photon" rel="external nofollow" target="_blank">Photon distro</a> is not available from the Microsoft Store, but we can easily install it from Docker using EasyWSL.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	To install a custom image, you would select the 'Specify a docker image' option, and when it asks for a docker container, you would enter the name of the distro and the tag to install using the following syntax:
</p>

<pre>image:tag</pre>

<p>
	In Photon's case, the image name is 'photon' and the tag is 'latest', as <a href="https://hub.docker.com/_/photon?tab=tags&amp;page=1&amp;ordering=last_updated" rel="external nofollow" target="_blank">shown on this page</a>.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	We would then use the 'photon:latest' container when prompted by EasyWSL, as shown below.
</p>

<div>
	<figure>
		<p>

		</p>

		<p>
			<img alt="install-photon.jpg" class="ipsImage" data-ratio="75.10" height="382" width="720" src="https://www.bleepstatic.com/images/news/software/e/easywsl/install-photon.jpg">
		</p>

		<figcaption>
			Installing Photon using EasyWSL
		</figcaption>
	</figure>
</div>

<p>
	While almost all Linux Docker images will install without an issue, you may see an error caused by a missing command depending on the post-installation routines.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	However, the operating system will install and be usable within WSL.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	You should note that after installing a new Linux distribution using EasyWSL, the WSL installation will not appear in the Start Menu.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	To launch the new distribution, you can use the wsl -d [linux_distro] command from a command prompt to launch it.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	For example, to launch Photon we would use the wsl -d photon command.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	For those who enjoy using WSL in Windows 10, EasyWSL is definitely a great addition to your toolbox so that you can install the Linux distribution you are looking for.

	The Debian Project earlier today released the first stable version of the Debian 11 (codenamed "bullseye") Linux distribution, succeeding the earlier Debian 10 (buster) release. Work on the newly released distro has been going on for quite some time and the Debian team promises the new OS would be supported till 2026.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	Debian is always touted by its makers as "The Universal Operating System" and to stay true to it, Debian 11 is releasing across nine architectures. The supported architectures are given below with links to their corresponding Debian 11 changes:
</p>

<p>

</p>

<ul>
	<li>
		<a href="https://www.debian.org/releases/bullseye/amd64/release-notes/" rel="external nofollow">amd64</a>
	</li>
	<li>

	</li>
	<li>
		<a href="https://www.debian.org/releases/bullseye/armel/release-notes/" rel="external nofollow">armel</a>
	</li>
	<li>
		<a href="https://www.debian.org/releases/bullseye/armhf/release-notes/" rel="external nofollow">armhf</a>
	</li>
	<li>
		<a href="https://www.debian.org/releases/bullseye/mipsel/release-notes/" rel="external nofollow">MIPS</a>
	</li>
	<li>
		<a href="https://www.debian.org/releases/bullseye/mips64el/release-notes/" rel="external nofollow">MIPS64</a>
	</li>
	<li>
		<a href="https://www.debian.org/releases/bullseye/ppc64el/release-notes/" rel="external nofollow">PowerPC</a>
	</li>
	<li>
		<a href="https://www.debian.org/releases/bullseye/s390x/release-notes/" rel="external nofollow">z/Architecture</a>
	</li>
</ul>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	It also features close to 60,000 packages with the precise number being 59,551. Among these, 11,294 packages are new and 42,821 have been updated. 5,434 packages have remained unchanged while 9,519 "obsolete" packages have been removed.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	And in terms of compatible desktop environments, Debian 11 supports:
</p>

<p>

</p>

<ul>
	<li>
		GNOME 3.38
	</li>
	<li>
		KDE Plasma 5.20
	</li>
	<li>
		LXDE 11
	</li>
	<li>
		LXQt 0.16
	</li>
	<li>
		MATE 1.24
	</li>
	<li>
		Xfce 4.16
	</li>
</ul>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	As far as new features are concerned, there are a few significant ones. For example, the Debian 11 kernel now supports exFAT (Extensible File Allocation Table) filesystem. Resources for managing the exFAT filesystem are available in the <a href="https://packages.debian.org/sid/main/exfatprogs" rel="external nofollow">exfatprogs package</a>.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	Debian 11 also brings IPP-over-USB protocol via a new package called "<a href="https://packages.debian.org/bullseye/ipp-usb" rel="external nofollow">ipp-usb</a>" that allows driverless printing for USB printers.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	Alongside these, there are also plenty of other changes too with the new Debian 11. You can find more details in the release notes linked earlier and from the official <a href="https://www.debian.org/News/2021/20210814" rel="external nofollow">press release here</a>.
</p>

The new build adds an important new feature for those who collaborate with others on Word. The new feature adds some improvements to the Track Changes feature, giving you the power to turn on Track Changes only to yourself. Prior to this, on turning on the Track Changes feature, everyone’s changes were automatically tracked. This will no longer be the case if you select the <strong>Just Mine</strong> option by going to the <strong>Review</strong> tab and opening the dropdown menu on the <strong>Track Changes</strong> button.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	Moreover, the new Office build also includes fixes for issues found in Word, Excel, and Outlook. You can read the full official changelog below to know more.

	A developer on GitHub with the username "builtbybel" has created a new tool called "ThisIsWin11" (TIW11) and according to the dev, the new software is somewhat like a one-stop-shop for personalizing your <a href="https://www.neowin.net/news/tags/windows_11/" rel="external nofollow">Windows 11</a> experience. In fact, in the "about" section of the software, the maker even touts the TIW11 as "The real PowerToys for Windows 11".
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	For example, you apparently will be able to uninstall some of the pre-installed apps that come with Windows. While some users do utilize these features, others may not and for them, these apps are likely not much more than bloatware.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	<img alt="1628835416_thisiswin11_(source-_builtbyb" class="ipsImage" data-ratio="72.22" height="493" width="720" src="https://cdn.neow.in/news/images/uploaded/2021/08/1628835416_thisiswin11_(source-_builtbybel)_story.jpg">
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	Other various Windows 11 settings can also be tweaked with as shown in the image below:
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	<img alt="1628835340_thisiswin11_avlable_options_(" class="ipsImage" data-ratio="72.22" height="493" width="720" src="https://cdn.neow.in/news/images/uploaded/2021/08/1628835340_thisiswin11_avlable_options_(source-_builtbybel)_story.jpg">
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	It has been recommended that you delete your existing "Packages" folder before applying the changes made in TIW11 to avoid conflict in the form of duplicate files and such. Of course, it is always safe to keep a backup.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	The Packages folder contains the files of the Windows apps installed on that user profile. You can find it in C:/Users/%username%/AppData/Local/Packages. These settings are generally hidden so you may have to unhide them.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	To enable these features, the ThisIsWin11 app consists of five modules according to its dev.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<ul>
	<li>
		Presenter: The start screen guides you through an pictured introduction to the new operating system Windows 11 and allows you quickly to configure it.
	</li>
	<li>
		<p>
			PumpedApp: This module allows you checking and optimizing Windows 11 configuration among other things (all changes made can also be undone)
		</p>
	</li>
	<li>
		<p>
			Kickassbloat will help you removing pre-installed Windows 11 apps
		</p>
	</li>
	<li>
		<p>
			Packages is there for you to quickly install one or the other app
		</p>
	</li>
	<li>
		<p>
			PowerClicks allows you automating several Windows 11 tasks based on PowerShell and community scripts.
		</p>
	</li>
</ul>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	If you wish to try the ThisIsWin11 tool for yourself, you can head over to the GitHub page for the latest <a href="https://github.com/builtbybel/ThisIsWin11/releases/tag/0.70.0" rel="external nofollow">release version 0.70.0</a>. The changelog is also available there. Bear in mind though that this is an unofficial third-party application and it may mess up your system. So you have to install it at your own risk.

	Thunderbird 91, a new major version of the open source cross platform email and communication client, has been released. The new version of Thunderbird is not yet available via the email client's integrated updating functionality.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	Users interested in the new version need to download and install it manually; existing installations of Thunderbird will be upgraded in the process to the new version.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	Similarly to how Thunderbird 78.x was released, Thunderbird 91 will be offered via the integrated updating functionality eventually.
</p>

<h3>
	Thunderbird 91
</h3>

<p>
	<img alt="thunderbird-91.png" class="ipsImage" data-ratio="70.14" height="378" width="720" src="https://mk0ghacksnety2pjrgh8.kinstacdn.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/08/thunderbird-91.png">
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	The installation of Thunderbird 91 is straightforward. Download the version from the <a data-wpel-link="external" href="https://www.thunderbird.net/en-US/" rel="external nofollow" target="_blank">official Thunderbird website</a> and run the downloaded file afterwards.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	Existing installations should be detected automatically and the installation or upgrade should progress without issues.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	Thunderbird 91 is a new major version, which introduces new features and changes. The email client is the first to support Apple Silicon CPUs natively, which benefits Mac OS users.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	The program makes use of multiple processes by default now, similarly to how Firefox introduced support for the feature a long time ago.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	The email account setup process has been improved in the new version of Thunderbird. The email client supports CardDAV address books now, and will detect these automatically based on the email address the user provides. Similarly, remote calendars will be detected automatically to streamline the setup process.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	If you set up a Gmail account, Thunderbird will detect the address book and calendar, if available, to suggest to import the data right away.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	The team added a new redirect option to the email client. You find it when you select the More button when viewing an email, or when right-clicking on emails, as it is listed in the context menu.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	<img alt="mail-redirect-thunderbird.png" class="ipsImage" data-ratio="156.47" height="399" width="255" src="https://mk0ghacksnety2pjrgh8.kinstacdn.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/08/mail-redirect-thunderbird.png">
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	Mail redirects work similarly to mail forwarding, but with several differences. Redirected emails retain the original email body and subject, whereas forwarded ones are changed somewhat.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	Another useful feature of Thunderbird 91 is the ability to change the order of accounts in the user interface; this can't be done in the main window. You need to open Tools &gt; Account Settings, and use drag &amp; drop to sort accounts.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	<strong>Smaller features of Thunderbird 91</strong>

		</ul>
	</li>
	<li>
		Undo and redo support for event and task creations/deletions.
	</li>
</ul>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	The list of changes is equally long. Names of some features were changed: the master password is now called primary password, add-ons was renamed to add-ons and themes, and options is now called preferences.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	Account setup happens in a dedicated tab now, and red indicates invalid email addresses in compose windows exclusively now (opposed to highlighting all emails not found in the address book).
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	Thunderbird may start more quickly as chat and custom widgets are lazy-loaded.
</p>

<p>

<p>
	The developers have fixed a significant number of issues besides all that. You find them listed on the <a data-wpel-link="external" href="https://www.thunderbird.net/en-US/thunderbird/91.0/releasenotes/" rel="external nofollow" target="_blank">official release notes page</a>.
</p>

	Firefox Suggest is a new custom search and sponsored suggestions feature of Mozilla's Firefox web browser. The feature is being tested on a limited number of Firefox installations in the United States currently.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	Firefox Suggest displays suggestions when users type in the Firefox address bar. The feature may look like search suggestions on first glance, a feature that Firefox supported for a long while. Search suggestions use data retrieved from the search engine that is used to suggest queries to users. If you type wiki, suggestions may include wikipedia and wikileaks among others.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	Suggestions from Firefox Suggest are not offered by the search engine that is used, but by Mozilla's Firefox browser. These suggestions are divided into non-commercial and sponsored suggestions. Mozilla's support page does not provide much insight on the feature:
</p>

<blockquote>
	<p>
		[..] find information easily and get to where you want to go quicker
	</p>
</blockquote>

<p>
	It is not clear, for instance, how suggestions are picked. It is possible that Mozilla's Pocket service is used as the data pool for suggestions, but Pocket is not mentioned once on the support page.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	Mozilla <a data-wpel-link="external" href="https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/navigate-web-faster-firefox-suggest?as=u&amp;utm_source=inproduct" rel="external nofollow" target="_blank">reveals</a> additional information about the sponsored suggestions of Firefox Suggest. These come from adMarketplace according to the support page. When users click on results, data is send through a proxy before it is shared with the partner. Only technical data is send.
</p>

<blockquote>
	<p>
		When you see or click on a Firefox suggestion, Firefox sends technical data to our partner through a Mozilla-owned proxy service. This data does not include any personally identifying information and is only shared when you see or click on a Firefox suggestion.
	</p>

	<p>

	</p>

	<p>
		Firefox sends us data such as the position, size and placement of content we suggest, as well as basic data about your interactions with Firefox’s suggested content. This includes the number of times suggested content is displayed or clicked.
	</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	You will spot Firefox Suggest results in the address bar immediately, as they are labeled as such. Firefox includes an option to turn the feature off (or on), but only if it is available.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	Since it is experimental, there is a chance that the feature won't find its way into stable versions of Firefox for all users, regardless of region. To disable Firefox Suggest, do the following:
</p>

<p>

</p>

<ol>
	<li>
		Load about:preferences#search in the Firefox address bar; this opens the Search preferences.
	</li>
	<li>
		Scroll down to the section Search Suggestions.
	</li>
	<li>

<p>
	It is too early to judge the quality of suggestions displayed by Firefox Suggest. Some Firefox users may like that the suggestions come from a difference source, but ultimately, it depends on the quality of suggestions. Others may dislike the feature because it includes sponsored results.  Firefox Suggest can be disabled in the settings to turn it off.

		Windows 11 is a major cosmetic update, but often improved looks mean poorer performance on Windows.

	</p>

	<p>
		In a new <a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NEJeKICE-XM" rel="external nofollow" target="_blank">question &amp; answer session</a>, Microsoft said Windows 11 users had nothing to worry about.
	</p>

	<p>

	</p>

	<p>
		“Performance is really a top priority for us and we want to ensure that all these fun new functionalities (Mica and rounded corners) are super fast and don’t impact the OS. For example, Mica was specifically designed for higher performance when compared to things like acrylic.”
	</p>

	<p>

	</p>

	<p>
		Mica, the semi-transparent effect which lets you see the background of your app through the app,  “it only blurs the (background) image once” rather than with every video frame, to offer better performance and experience than Acrylic.
	</p>

		“For rounded corners, we optimized our rendering performance so you shouldn’t notice any difference compared to square corners,” the company said.

	Today, Microsoft <a href="https://www.neowin.net/news/windows-11-build-22000132-for-the-dev-and-beta-channels-brings-new-in-box-apps-more/" rel="external nofollow">released Windows 11 build 22000.132</a> to both the Dev and Beta channels. The build brings the new Teams' chat experience for all Insiders that allows for video calling, starting meetings and chats quickly, and more. This was rolling out in a staggered fashion to Dev channel users first, before heading to Beta channel Insiders.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	Additionally, the build includes a <a href="https://blogs.windows.com/windows-insider/2021/08/12/first-set-of-windows-app-updates-rolling-out-to-windows-insiders-for-windows-11/" rel="external nofollow">few new in-box apps</a> such as a new Snipping Tool that the firm teased last week. This tool replaces both the old Snipping Tool and Snip &amp; Sketch apps, bringing a unified solution that bundles the features together. There is a new Calculator app that features the Windows 11 design language and a few new features, and redesigned Mail and Calendar apps. Currently, these new apps are only rolling out via the Microsoft Store for the Dev channel, but it won’t be long before they will be made available for the Beta channel.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	The build also brings a few bug fixes, which is to be expected with builds that are now making their way to both the Dev and Beta channels. This also happens to be the best time for users to switch to the Beta channel from the Dev channel and continue receiving stable builds, especially for those that do not want to begin testing new builds that will not be tied to a specific Windows 11 release.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	Along with the fixes, there are also <a href="https://blogs.windows.com/windows-insider/2021/08/12/announcing-windows-11-insider-preview-build-22000-132/" rel="external nofollow">a bunch of known issues</a> that users must be aware of. Interestingly, today’s build contains a long list of issues, but there are workarounds for a few of them. Expect the next few builds to address these issues, as the focus will be on readying the OS for release.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	Here is the complete list of known issues:
</p>

<blockquote>
	<ul>
		<li>
			[REMINDER] When upgrading to Windows 11 from Windows 10 or when installing an update to Windows 11, some features may be deprecated or removed. <a href="https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/windows-11-specifications#primaryR4" rel="external nofollow">See details here</a>.
		</li>
		<li>
			We’re investigating an issue where on some devices, when going to <a href="https://aka.ms/WIPSettings" rel="external nofollow">Settings &gt; Windows Update &gt; Windows Insider Program</a>, only the “Stop getting preview builds” option is visible. This prevents Insiders from selecting a channel. We have <a href="https://aka.ms/WIPSettingsFix" rel="external nofollow">posted a workaround on Answers</a>.
		</li>
		<li>
			[BETA CHANNEL] We’re investigating reports from Insiders in the Beta Channel where after upgrading to Windows 11, they are not seeing the new Taskbar and the Start menu doesn’t work. To workaround this if you are impacted, please try going to Windows Update &gt; Update history, uninstalling the latest cumulative update for Windows, and the reinstall it by checking for updates.
		</li>
		<li>
			Start:
			<ul>
				<li>
					In some cases, you might be unable to enter text when using Search from Start or the Taskbar. If you experience the issue, press WIN + R on the keyboard to launch the Run dialog box, then close it.
				</li>
				<li>
					System and Windows Terminal is missing when right-clicking on the Start button (WIN + X).
				</li>
			</ul>
		</li>
		<li>
			Taskbar:
			<ul>
				<li>
					The Taskbar will sometimes flicker when switching input methods.
				</li>
			</ul>
		</li>
		<li>
			Search:
			<ul>
				<li>
					After clicking the Search icon on the Taskbar, the Search panel may not open. If this occurs, restart the “Windows Explorer” process, and open the search panel again.
				</li>
				<li>
					Search panel might appear as black and not display any content below the search box.
				</li>
				<li>
					On pen enabled devices, apps may not launch from the Search panel. If you experience this issue, please log out and back in to resolve the issue.
				</li>
			</ul>
		</li>
		<li>
			Settings:
			<ul>
				<li>
					Certain searches using the search box in Settings may crash Settings.
				</li>
			</ul>
		</li>
		<li>
			Widgets:
			<ul>
				<li>
					The Widgets board may appear empty. To work around the issue, you can sign out and then sign back in again.
				</li>
				<li>
					Widgets may be displayed in the wrong size on external monitors. If you encounter this, you can launch the widgets via touch or WIN + W shortcut on your actual PC display first and then launch on your secondary monitors.
				</li>
				<li>
					[Family widget] Some users may see a ‘connect a device to see screen time activity’ message even with screen time settings enable.
				</li>
				<li>
					[Family widget] Location information may not be available for some users on iOS.
				</li>
			</ul>
		</li>
		<li>
			Store:
			<ul>
				<li>
					We are working to improve search relevance in the Store including resolving an issue where in some cases the ordering of search results is inaccurate.
				</li>
				<li>
					The install button might not be functional yet in some limited scenarios.
				</li>
				<li>
					Rating and reviews are not available for some apps.
				</li>
			</ul>
		</li>
		<li>
			Windows Sandbox
			<ul>
				<li>
					Within Windows Sandbox, the language input switcher does not launch after clicking the switcher icon on the Taskbar. As a workaround, users can switch their input language via any of the following hardware keyboard shortcuts: Alt + Shift, Ctrl + Shift, or Win + Space (the third option is available only if Sandbox is full-screened).
				</li>
				<li>
					Within Windows Sandbox, the IME context menu does not launch after clicking the IME icon in the Taskbar. As workarounds, users can access the functionalities of the IME context menu with either of following methods:
					<ul>
						<li>
							Accessing the IME settings via Settings &gt; Time &amp; language &gt; Language &amp; region &gt; (e.g. Japanese) three dots &gt; Language options &gt; (e.g. Microsoft IME) three dots &gt; Keyboard options.
							<ul>
								<li>
									Optionally, you may also enable the IME toolbar, an alternative UI to quickly invoke specific IME functions. Continuing from above, navigate to Keyboard options &gt; Appearance &gt; Use IME toolbar.
								</li>
							</ul>
						</li>
						<li>
							Using the unique set of hardware keyboard shortcuts associated with each IME-supported language. (See: <a href="https://support.microsoft.com/windows/microsoft-japanese-ime-da40471d-6b91-4042-ae8b-713a96476916" rel="external nofollow">Japanese IME Shortcuts</a>, <a href="https://support.microsoft.com/windows/microsoft-traditional-chinese-ime-ef596ca5-aff7-4272-b34b-0ac7c2631a38" rel="external nofollow">Traditional Chinese IME Shortcuts</a>).
						</li>
					</ul>
				</li>
			</ul>
		</li>
		<li>
			Localization
			<ul>
				<li>
					There is an issue where some Insiders may be some missing translations from their user experience for a small subset of languages running the latest Insider Preview builds. To confirm if you have been impacted, <a href="https://aka.ms/UnderLocIssue" rel="external nofollow">please visit this Answers forum post</a> and follow the steps for remediation.
				</li>
			</ul>
		</li>
		<li>
			Chat from Microsoft Teams
			<ul>
				<li>
					Experience is localized for English (US) only. Additional languages and locales forthcoming.
				</li>
				<li>
					When you make an outgoing call, while you do not hear a ring tone, the user interface shows that the call is getting connected.
				</li>
				<li>
					In a video call, sometimes people videos freeze or display a black image. There is a workaround to this issue, which is to pin the video that freezes and unpin it to fix the problem.
				</li>
				<li>
					When switching between calls, the previous call is not automatically put on hold, so audio and video streams continue on both calls. Be sure to complete a call before taking another.
				</li>
			</ul>
		</li>

	It's a new week, which means it's time for a new Windows 11 build. Just like last week, the new build today is heading to Windows Insiders in both the Dev and Beta channels. The <a href="https://blogs.windows.com/windows-insider/2021/08/12/announcing-windows-11-insider-preview-build-22000-132/" rel="external nofollow">release heading out today is build 22000.132</a> and it brings with it a bunch of improvements such as the availability of Teams chat for Beta channel users. The firm is also adding out one-to-one and group audio and video calling, making the experience more complete.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	The build also features a <a href="https://blogs.windows.com/windows-insider/2021/08/12/first-set-of-windows-app-updates-rolling-out-to-windows-insiders-for-windows-11/" rel="external nofollow">few new in-box apps</a> such as the new Snipping Tool that replaces both the old Snipping Tool and Snip &amp; Sketch, bringing a unified solution. There is a new Calculator app that features the Windows 11 design language, and redesigned Mail and Calendar apps. Currently, these new apps are only rolling out via the Microsoft Store for the Dev channel, but it won’t be long before they will be made available for the Beta channel. The Microsoft Store update that <a href="https://www.neowin.net/news/windows-11-build-22000120-out-for-the-dev-and-beta-channels-adds-a-new-family-widget/" rel="external nofollow">headed to the Dev channel last week </a>is also making it to Beta channel users this week.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	Currently, the firm is releasing <a href="https://www.neowin.net/news/tags/windows_11/" rel="external nofollow">Windows 11</a> builds for the <a href="https://www.neowin.net/news/windows-11-build-22000120-out-for-the-dev-and-beta-channels-adds-a-new-family-widget/" rel="external nofollow">Dev and Beta channels simultaneously</a> as it prepares the OS for release, which is why the improvements being made are small tweaks and not major features. The builds usually heading out to the Beta channel are expected to be more stable, as they will eventually be promoted to the Release Preview channel, which is the last step before general availability.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	Additionally, this is the best time for users to switch to the Beta channel from the Dev channel and continue receiving Windows 11 builds that are part of the release that will happen later this year. Eventually, the Dev channel will move to a development branch that is not tied to any specific release. Those will bring less stable builds containing features slated to make it into the version of the OS expected to release next year.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	With that out of the way, here are all the improvements made in this build:
</p>

We’re also excited to begin rolling out one-to-one and group audio and video calling, with many of the features that you’ve come to expect. You can create and join meetings. You can toggle your microphone and camera on or off and choose your preferred speakers, mic, and camera with device settings. You can manage meeting information and options. You can share your screen, see the roster of participants, admit meeting participants from the lobby, chat and see people’s video in a gallery view. We’re excited to bring this experience to a growing network of people!

	</ul>
</blockquote>

<p>
	As expected, the build also brings a few fixes that address issues and bugs, further bringing overall usability improvements. The firm has listed those in a categorized manner. Here are all the bug fixes made with this build:
</p>

<blockquote>
	<ul>
		<li>
			Search:
			<ul>
				<li>
					Did some work to address a scenario where the recent searches list displayed when hovering over the Search icon in the Taskbar was unexpectedly blank.
				</li>
			</ul>
		</li>
		<li>
			Widgets:
			<ul>
				<li>
					We fixed the issue where launching links from the widgets board wasn’t always invoking apps to the foreground.
				</li>
				<li>
					Clicking the widgets icon in the Taskbar should open it on the correct monitor now.
				</li>
			</ul>
		</li>
		<li>
			Windows Sandbox:
			<ul>
				<li>
					The Taskbar (Explorer.exe) should no longer repeatedly crash inside of Windows Sandbox.
				</li>
			</ul>
		</li>
		<li>
			Other:
			<ul>
				<li>
					Addressed an issue leading to some Insiders experiencing a bug check when attempting to roll back in the previous flight.
				</li>
				<li>
					Mitigated an issue that was making certain games go unresponsive after pressing the Enter key.
				</li>
				<li>
					Fixed an issue where the “location in use” indicator icon wasn’t showing up in the Taskbar when it should have been.
				</li>
			</ul>
		</li>

<p>
	"In Windows 11, both the classic Snipping Tool and Snip &amp; Sketch apps have been replaced by a new Snipping Tool app that represents the best experiences of both apps in the next evolution of screen capture for Windows," announced Microsoft in a new blog post.

	The new versions of the apps are still rolling out to Windows 11 users and will not automatically become available after upgrading to Windows 11 build 22000.132.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	If it is like other rollouts of new features, it may take a few days for them to appear on your Windows 11 device.

	With the Radeon RX 6600 XT review embargo lifted and the cards set to hit retail channels this week, the Radeon Software for Linux 21.30 driver has been released in now officially supporting the RX 6600 series.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	Today's packaged driver release succeeds Radeon Software for Linux 21.20 from back in June. The Radeon Software for Linux 21.30 driver supports the current RX 6600/6700/6800/6900 series line-up while continuing to go back to supporting prior generations through the Radeon Rx 289/290/290X Hawaii GPUs (GCN 1.2). While AMD dropped pre-Polaris support from their mainline Windows driver, that isn't the case here with the upstream AMDGPU Linux driver continuing to support GCN 1.2 GPUs -- and even GCN 1.0/1.1 too unofficially when switching over from the Radeon DRM driver via module options.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	Besides having RX 6600 XT support, the Radeon Software for Linux 21.30 driver only lists Ubuntu 20.04.3 LTS support as the other change for this quarterly update. Ubuntu 20.04.3 LTS is due out later this month and brings the hardware enablement (HWE) stack from Ubuntu 21.04 to this long-term support distribution.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	In addition to supporting Ubuntu 20.04.3 LTS, this packaged Linux driver also has support for Ubuntu 18.04.5, RHEL/CentOS 7.9, RHEL/CentOS 8.4, and SUSE SLED/SLES 15 SP3.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	This updated Radeon Software for Linux 21.30 driver can be downloaded from AMD.com. I'll have up some fresh RDNA2 upstream vs. packaged driver benchmarks this week.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	In case you missed it, be sure to check out today's Radeon RX 6600 XT Linux review for benchmarks on this new mid-range graphics card.

		<p>
			Today, Apple released a new version of its Mac operating system, macOS Big Sur. The new update is labeled macOS Big Sur 11.5.2, but there aren't any new features or major security updates. Rather, macOS 11.5.2 focuses on "bug fixes." In fact, these are Apple's release notes for the latest version of Big Sur, in their entirety:
		</p>

		<blockquote>
			<p>
				macOS 11.5.2 includes bug fixes for your Mac.
			</p>
		</blockquote>

		<p>
			As you can see, the release notes do not specify which bugs have been fixed and mention no new features. Apple maintains a support page where it details the security updates within a given release, too. But that's bare for this release. "This update has no published CVE entries," it says.
		</p>

		<p>

		</p>

		<p>
			While Apple often (but not always) releases software updates for many or all of its platforms at the same time, macOS was alone today—at least in terms of public releases. Today also saw major new beta releases of iOS 15, watchOS 8, macOS Monterey, and more.
		</p>

		<p>

		</p>
		macOS 11.5.2 follows <a href="https://arstechnica.com/gadgets/2021/07/ios-14-7-1-and-macos-11-5-1-arrive-with-one-bug-fix-and-one-security-fix/" rel="external nofollow">macOS 11.5.1</a> (which contained security updates) and <a href="https://arstechnica.com/gadgets/2021/07/ipados-14-7-and-macos-big-sur-11-5-come-with-plenty-of-bug-fixes-and-security-updates/" rel="external nofollow">macOS 11.5</a> (which also consisted largely of—you guessed it—bug fixes and security updates). We probably won't see significant new macOS features until <a href="https://arstechnica.com/gadgets/2021/06/apple-macos-monterey-announced-details-new-features/" rel="external nofollow">macOS Monterey</a> arrives later this year.

		<p>

		</p>

		<p>
			Among other things, that major upcoming release is expected to include various new ways to integrate a Mac with an iOS or iPadOS device, like Universal Control. This will facilitate new ways of controlling macOS and iPad devices together with the same mouse and keyboard.

	Microsoft has revived the Remote Desktop Connection Manager (RDCMan) app that was deprecated last year due to an important severity information disclosure bug the company decided not to fix.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	RDCMan is a Windows RDP (Remote Desktop Protocol) client used by system admins to manage multiple remote desktop connections.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	After discontinuing the app, Microsoft <a href="https://docs.microsoft.com/en-US/troubleshoot/windows-client/remote/use-mstsc-universal-remote-desktop-client-instead-rdman" rel="external nofollow" target="_blank">advised customers</a> to switch to Windows built-in Remote Desktop Connection (%windir%\system32\mstsc.exe) or the <a data-linktype="external" href="https://aka.ms/rdwin" rel="external nofollow">universal Remote Desktop client</a>.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	"An information disclosure vulnerability exists in the Remote Desktop Connection Manager (RDCMan) application when it improperly parses XML input containing a reference to an external entity," Microsoft <a href="https://msrc.microsoft.com/update-guide/vulnerability/CVE-2020-0765" rel="external nofollow" target="_blank">explained</a> in the March 2020 security advisory.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	"An attacker who successfully exploited this vulnerability could read arbitrary files via an XML external entity (XXE) declaration."
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	Attackers could exploit the bug (tracked as CVE-2020-0765) by tricking authenticated targets into opening RDG files containing maliciously crafted XML content.
</p>

<h2>
	RDCMan revived as a Sysinternals tool
</h2>

<p>
	However, as Microsoft Azure CTO Mark Russinovich revealed earlier this year, the company added RDCMan to the Windows Sysinternals toolkit and released <a href="https://twitter.com/markrussinovich/status/1407402603458088960" rel="external nofollow" target="_blank">version 2.8</a> in late June.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	"Good news for RDCMan (Remote Desktop Connection Manager) fans (like me): we've saved it from abandonment by bringing into Sysinternals," Russinovich <a href="https://twitter.com/markrussinovich/status/1361734164421218304" rel="external nofollow" target="_blank">said in February</a>, confirming the tool's revival. "Look for its Sysinternals debut in the near future."
</p>

</div>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	While the company didn't share any details on the security flaw addressed in RDCMan 2.8, the patched vulnerability was not the one that led to the app being discontinued last year.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	Microsoft disclosed today <a href="https://msrc.microsoft.com/update-guide/vulnerability/CVE-2020-0765" rel="external nofollow" target="_blank">in an update to the initial security advisory</a> that the flaw was fixed in RDCMan 2.82, released on July 27 through the <a href="https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/sysinternals/downloads/rdcman" rel="external nofollow" target="_blank">Sysinternals documentation website</a>.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	The new Remote Desktop Connection Manager version runs on Windows 8.1 and higher or Windows Server 2012 and higher.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	"User with OS versions prior to Win7/Vista will need to get version 6 of the Terminal Services Client," Microsoft says. "You can obtain this from the Microsoft Download Center: XP; Win2003."

	</li>
</ul>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	Edge Dev Known issues:
</p>

<p>

</p>

<ul>
	<li>
		Users of certain ad blocking extensions may experience playback errors on Youtube.  As a workaround, temporarily disabling the extension should allow playback to proceed.  See <a href="https://techcommunity.microsoft.com/t5/articles/known-issue-adblock-causing-errors-on-youtube/m-p/1486882" rel="external nofollow" target="_blank">this help article</a> for more details.
	</li>
	<li>
		Some users are still running into an issue where all tabs and extensions immediately crash with a STATUS_INVALID_IMAGE_HASH error.  The most common cause of this error is outdated security or antivirus software from vendors like Symantec, and in those cases, updating that software will fix it.
	</li>
	<li>
		Users of the Kaspersky Internet Suite who have the associated extension installed may sometimes see webpages like Gmail fail to load.  This failure is due to the main Kaspersky software being out of date, and is thus fixed by making sure the latest version is installed.
	</li>
	<li>
		Some users are still seeing favorites get duplicated.  This issue should be reduced now that automatic deduplication has been introduced into Insider channels, but we’re still rolling that out in Stable.  We’ve also seen duplication happen when running the manual deduplicator on multiple machines before either machine has a chance to fully sync its changes, so make sure to leave plenty of time in between runs of the deduplicator.
	</li>
	<li>
		Some users are seeing “wobbling” behavior when scrolling using trackpad gestures or touchscreens, where scrolling in one dimension also causes the page to subtly scroll back and forth in the other.  Note that this only affects certain websites and seems to be worse on certain devices.  This is most likely related to our ongoing work to bring scrolling back to parity with Edge Legacy’s behavior, so if this behavior is undesirable, you can temporarily turn it off by disabling the edge://flags/#edge-experimental-scrolling flag.
	</li>
</ul>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	This Edge Dev channel update should download and install directly but in case it doesn’t then you can head to the Edge settings and manually update the browser.
</p>
