	Having a new operating system is just as exciting as having a new device in your hand. This is one of the reasons why the release of Windows 11 made a remarkable noise in October 2021. And if you are one of those who have new computers possessing the new OS, you’re probably enjoying the new interface and capabilities. But for those who are still clueless about them, here are the best Windows 11 features you should know:
</p>

<h2>
	Desktop
</h2>

<figure aria-describedby="caption-attachment-398299" id="attachment_398299">
	<img alt="w11e.jpg" class="ipsImage" data-ratio="62.50" height="405" width="720" src="https://mspoweruser.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/02/w11e.jpg">
</figure>

<figure aria-describedby="caption-attachment-398299" id="attachment_398299">
	<figcaption id="caption-attachment-398299">
		Windows 11 Desktop
	</figcaption>
</figure>

<p>
	Of course, the desktop layout is the best highlight of Windows 11. Nonetheless, it also offers incredible practicality, making your life easier and more organized. Besides aesthetics, the Windows 11 desktop will let you make your own individual virtual desktops. Here, you have the power to create a desktop for your work, studies, personal life, gaming, and more. This will help you categorize your activities, removing messy desktops with jumbled windows for various interests. You can toggle between the desktops you have, and creating or deleting one is easy. And for better customization, Windows 11 allows users to set their own wallpapers for each virtual desktop.
</p>

<h2>
	Snap Layout &amp; Snap Group
</h2>

<figure aria-describedby="caption-attachment-398300" id="attachment_398300">
	<img alt="w11f.jfif" class="ipsImage" data-ratio="75.10" height="480" width="720" src="https://mspoweruser.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/02/w11f.jfif">

<figure aria-describedby="caption-attachment-398300" id="attachment_398300">

</figure>

<p>
	When working, it is almost impossible to open multiple windows at once. Windows 11 has a solution for that, and you can use it to boost your productivity. Snap Layout lets you organize various windows in the layout of your choice and will save them as a group. When you need to open the said group of windows, Snap Groups will then let you open them again in the same arrangement. Apart from sites, you can also do it to apps. Neat!
</p>

<h2>
	Android Applications
</h2>

<figure aria-describedby="caption-attachment-398301" id="attachment_398301">
	<img alt="w11g.png" class="ipsImage" data-ratio="73.33" height="405" width="720" src="https://mspoweruser.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/02/w11g.png">

	</figcaption>
</figure>

<p>
	Just imagine your PC offering the same fun as your phone through the apps you love. Indeed, that is one of the best things Windows 11 update is offering: you can download applications directly onto your PC. The apps will be available in the new Microsoft Store via Amazon’s Appstore, where you’ll get your hands on over 500,000 apps, such as Netflix, Tiktok, and other highly patronized paid and non-paid apps. Once downloaded, the apps will be situated into the Start Bar and Taskbar. With this, access to your favorite apps is just a cinch.
</p>

<h2>
	Microsoft Teams
</h2>

<figure aria-describedby="caption-attachment-398302" id="attachment_398302">
	<img alt="w11h.png" class="ipsImage" data-ratio="75.10" height="540" width="592" src="https://mspoweruser.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/02/w11h.png">

<p>
	Is your company a massive fan of the Microsoft OS? Well, Microsoft Teams will make you fall in love with this new OS even more. There is no need to install another application to connect with your team and do unnecessary setups. Through Microsoft Teams, you have a built-in video chat platform right into your OS. You can also connect with other users on Teams across Windows, Android, Mac, or iOS. You can text, message, voice, or video call your contacts using Teams and launching its Chat tool. Just click Meet or Chat, and you’ll be able to connect to others in an instant.
</p>

<h2>
	Feed Widget
</h2>

<figure aria-describedby="caption-attachment-398304" id="attachment_398304">
	<img alt="w11i.jpg" class="ipsImage" data-ratio="75.10" height="405" width="720" src="https://mspoweruser.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/02/w11i.jpg">

<p>
	The new Widgets of the Windows 11 are almost the same as the “News and Interest” feature found in the Windows 10 update. Yet, you’ll find it sleeker. There is a button for Widgets on the new Taskbar of the new OS that you can tap, which will then slide out a panel from the left side of the screen. This will give you all the crucial information you need for the day, including the weather, your to-do list, news, photos, and more.

		<p>
			Windows 11 launched on October 2021, and now it’s available for most supported devices that meet a specific set of requirements. If your device doesn’t meet the system requirements, yet you still want to install Windows 11, it’s still possible to upgrade your device by making a simple change to Registry.
		</p>

		<p>

		</p>

		<p>
			Now, if you’re one of those people who installed the OS on an unsupported machine, the Windows Settings app will have a new warning alert. Looking at the preview builds, the Setting app’s header will have a cautionary alert message informing users that the device they’re using doesn’t meet the minimum system requirements.
		</p>

		<p>

		</p>

		<p>
			For now, this alert appears on the Setting app’s homepage, and it doesn’t look like an activation error. Microsoft could expand the message to include a warning about potential consequences the user could experience if they continue running Windows 11 on unsupported machines. Clicking on the alert will redirect you to an explanation page discussing why you should think twice about running Windows 11 on an unsupported device. For instance, it could cause incompatibility issues that are not included under the manufacturer’s warranty.
		</p>

		<p>

		</p>

		<p>
			And it’s worth noting that there’s a pretty good chance that such incompatibility issues could occur, especially since Microsoft had already confirmed that unsupported PCs and laptops running Windows 11 may experience issues caused by “compatibility or other issues.”
		</p>

		<p>

<p>
	Fortunately, we know for a fact that running Windows 11 on an unsupported device won’t break it or render it unusable. After all, it could run Windows 10 correctly, so it shouldn’t be that big of a deal. Windows 11 is essentially the same as Windows 10; the main difference is its brand-new look.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	Those who still can’t install Windows 11 even after modifying the Registry can still try third-party open-source apps to upgrade their unsupported devices.

The application is available for the desktop operating systems Windows and Mac OS, and for the two mobile operating systems iOS and Android.

		<img alt="pdf-reader.webp" class="ipsImage" data-ratio="75.10" height="445" width="720" src="https://www.ghacks.net/wp-content/uploads/2022/02/pdf-reader.webp">

	<p>

	</p>

	<p>
		Interoperability and consistency are two of the key concepts of PDF Reader. You may read and edit PDF documents on your mobile and desktop devices, regardless of the size of the device; this sets PDF reader apart from other desktop-based or online PDF editors, and is making PDF Reader the first application aimed at mobile working in the market.
	</p>

	<p>

	</p>

	<p>
		Syncing is supported through the developer's own cloud storage system, an optional but highly useful component. Desktop users may continue their reading or work on their mobile devices, and vice versa, without having to worry about getting their PDF files on to their devices using third-party means. The apps take into account the different display sizes but are very consistent when it comes to the user interface and the provided functionality and user experience.
	</p>

	<p>

	</p>

	<p>
		The Windows version of PDF Reader received a major update recently, featuring a redesigned workspace that puts all essential tools right in the main toolbar of the application. All PDF Reader applications feature an intuitive experience when it comes to the viewing and editing of PDF files.
	</p>

	<p>

	</p>

	<p>
		<img alt="10001000.webp" class="ipsImage" data-ratio="75.10" height="540" width="540" src="https://www.ghacks.net/wp-content/uploads/2022/02/10001000.webp">
	</p>

	<p>

	</p>

	<p>
		Installation of PDF Reader is straightforward on all supported platforms as downloads and installations are handled through integrated stores. The Windows version is available on the Microsoft Store and installs in a matter of seconds.
	</p>

	<p>

	</p>

	<p>
		The program displays a first-run wizard to the user and includes a help document, in PDF format, that explains all core features of the PDF application. The help document is well designed and explains everything in detail. Most users may not need it though, as the interface is intuitive.
	</p>

	<p>

	</p>

	<p>
		The Home screen displays several options to users. You may open documents using the file browser or by using drag &amp; drop, access recent documents again, or use the Kdan Cloud integration to download documents to the local system to continue working on them. Documents reopen at the last used position.
	</p>

	<p>

	</p>

	<p>
		PDF documents fit the page to the application window by default, but you have plenty of options to change the default view. Options include displaying the actual size of the document, fitting it to the width of the window, or selecting a zoom value instead. The controls are accessible all the time and may be toggled between displaying at the bottom of the document or in a status bar.
	</p>

	<p>

	</p>

	<p>
		PDF reading supports more options. You may switch to a slideshow mode or fullscreen viewing mode, display two pages side-by-side, switch to continuous view mode, or switch between vertical and horizontal scrolling.
	</p>

	<p>

	</p>

	<p>
		A small sidebar on the left displays additional options. The thumbnails button displays all pages as thumbnails in a bar for quick jumping to specific pages using visual cues; this view mode can be expanded so that the entire application window displays page thumbnails.
	</p>

	<p>

	</p>

	<p>
		<img alt="pdf-reader-thumbnail-view.webp" class="ipsImage" data-ratio="75.10" height="540" width="623" src="https://www.ghacks.net/wp-content/uploads/2022/02/pdf-reader-thumbnail-view.webp">

		The left sidebar provides access to annotations and bookmarks as well, which are both accessible with a single click or tap.

		Saving, printing, sharing, syncing and searching icons are also available, and work as expected.

	<p>

	<ul>
		<li>
			Annotation -- add notes, highlight, underline or strikethrough text, add shapes, use freehand draw, stamps, or add text using the text box feature.

		<li>
			Edit -- add text boxes, images, or links.
		</li>
		<li>
			Page Edit -- add blank pages, append files, split PDF files, extract, rotate or delete pages.
		</li>
		<li>
			Insert signatures -- open the signature library, create signatures.
		</li>
		<li>
			Convert -- convert PDF to Microsoft Office file format.
		</li>
		<li>
			Security -- flatten or encrypt PDF files, remove passwords.
		</li>
		<li>
			More -- Print PDFs, send a fax, open the task manager, load slideshow mode, enable text reflow, display file info or save a new copy.
		</li>
	</ul>

	<p>

	</p>

	<p>
		The mobile versions of PDF Reader are equally powerful. You may use them to read PDF documents but also for editing. Access new or recent documents on your mobile devices, change the view (including thumbnail view mode), and use editing tools such as highlighting, annotating or adding signatures just like you would do in the desktop versions of the program.
	</p>

	<h3>
		Closing Words
	</h3>

	<p>
		PDF Reader is a powerful PDF editor and reader for desktop and mobile operating systems. It is ideal for users who require PDF reading and editing functionality on desktop and mobile devices, as the user interface and experience is consistent across these device families.
	</p>

	<p>

	</p>

	<p>
		Interested users can download the free version of PDF Reader directly to access a basic set of tools and features. Upgrades are available to extend the functionality and add features, such as the aforementioned cloud storage. The Document 365 subscription is available for $5 per month. A special 50% discount for the first year offer is available for students and faculty members.

</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	Ventoy is a useful tool in itself. <a data-wpel-link="internal" href="https://www.ghacks.net/2020/04/20/ventoy-create-bootable-usb-media-that-uses-iso-images/" rel="external nofollow">Launched in early 2020, Ventoy</a> allows users to create bootable media on USB devices. A core differentiating factor between Ventoy and solutions such as Rufus is that Ventoy users place disk images, e.g., ISO or IMG files, on the USB device. Additionally, Ventoy supports placing multiple disk images on the device to create multi-boot USB devices.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	The developer of Ventoy added several useful features to the application since its initial release, including support for <a data-wpel-link="internal" href="https://www.ghacks.net/2020/07/10/bootable-usb-drive-tool-ventoy-1-0-15-introduces-gpt-partition-support/" rel="external nofollow">GPT partitions</a>, <a data-wpel-link="internal" href="https://www.ghacks.net/2020/08/16/latest-ventoy-release-introduces-experimental-img-format-support/" rel="external nofollow">IMG disk images</a>, the option to <a data-wpel-link="internal" href="https://www.ghacks.net/2021/10/19/ventoy-1-0-55-bypass-windows-11-requirements-check-during-installation/" rel="external nofollow">bypass Windows 11 requirements during installation</a> or to <a data-wpel-link="internal" href="https://www.ghacks.net/2021/11/11/you-may-now-use-ventoy-without-deleting-data-on-usb-sticks/" rel="external nofollow">place files on the USB device without deleting data</a> on it.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	Ventoy 1.0.66, the latest version of the tool at the time of writing, introduces another useful feature: the option to boot from local disk images.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	Historally, Ventoy has always been designed to boot disk images that are placed on USB devices; this required that users install Ventoy on the USB device and copy disk images to the USB device as well.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	The new option, experimental at this point in time, allows users to keep disk images on local hard drives. The new method introduces additional options to use Ventoy, but it has limitations as well.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	As far as benefits are concerned, it enables use on USB devices with low disk space. Ventoy itself does not take up much space and it can be installed on nearly any USB device. Users of Ventoy do not have to copy disk images to the USB device, which may also speed up operations.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	As far as disadvantages are concerned, using local disk images turns Ventoy into a local-only solution, as you can't use the bootable media on other devices anymore, unless the specified disk images are stored at the exact same location on other devices as well. It is an option, and Ventoy users can mix and match.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	Note that the feature supports any type of storage device for this, even another USB device or an external hard drive (these need to be mapped to the same drive letter on target devices).
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	Instructions for creating these new local disk image links in Ventoy are available on the <a data-wpel-link="external" href="https://www.ventoy.net/en/doc_vlnk.html" rel="external nofollow" target="_blank">official project website</a>. On Windows, users need to run the VentoyVlnk.exe tool, activate the create button in the program window and pick a disk image file from the local system to create a vlnk file in the same directory. Linux users need to run sudo sh VentoyVlnk.sh -c xxx.iso, replacing xxx.iso with the name of the disk image.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	<strong>Closing Words</strong>
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	The new feature adds another useful option for Ventoy users without sacrificing existing capabilities.

	It appears that Microsoft is preparing to release several new features for Windows 11 Insiders in the Dev Channel. Sources say that many of these upcoming features will re-introduce missing functionality that didn’t come with the initial shipping build of Windows 11. Two weeks have already passed since the release of the latest Dev Channel build, which has made some people wonder if something happened internally to cause this pause in build releases.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	However, sources say that Microsoft has been using the extra week to add brand-new features and implement some changes to the public preview branch of Windows 11 (rs_prerelease.) This is one possible reason for the recent lack of new Dev Channel builds. However, it’s also notable how there has been a massive jump in build numbers (up to 250xx), which indicates that a new development semester is starting.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	We can all expect new features to come our way soon, no matter the case. Some of these changes include the following:
</p>

<p>

</p>

<ul>
	<li>
		create app folders in the Start menu itself
	</li>
	<li>
		drag and drop support on the Taskbar
	</li>
	<li>
		new acrylic or blur effects in legacy title bars
	</li>
	<li>
		new snapping UX called “Snap Bar”
	</li>
	<li>
		new gestures to open up the Start menu
	</li>
	<li>
		touch support for the Quick Settings panel.
	</li>
</ul>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	Now, let’s go over some of these features a bit more.
</p>

<h2>
	App Folders in Start
</h2>

<p>
	Windows 11 users have highly requested this upcoming feature, and it functions as you’d expect. When you click and drag an app onto another, this will create a new folder that you can click. This new feature allows users more organization on their Start menu.
</p>

<h2>
	Snap Bar
</h2>

<p>
	The new Snap Bar feature will introduce a new mechanic for snapping multiple app windows in Windows 11’s built-in snapping grid system. There are currently two different ways of snapping app windows: the drop-down that appears when you hover over the window controls or by literally dragging a window to the corners of your screen. With the new Snap Bar feature, a third option will be available. Specifically, users will see a bar panel appear on the top part of the screen when you click and drag a window around your screen.
</p>

<h2>
	New Acrylic/Blur Effects
</h2>

<p>
	You’ll find a slight UI change in the legacy title bars, as new acrylic or blur effects will replace the white title bar design we’re familiar with. If you watched the Windows live stream in January, you should have an idea what this new feature looks like, albeit it’s of low quality.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	<img alt="screenshot-www.youtube.com-2022.02.14-13" class="ipsImage" data-ratio="75.10" height="437" width="720" src="https://mspoweruser.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/02/screenshot-www.youtube.com-2022.02.14-13_07_24.png">
</p>

<h2>
	Start Menu &amp; Quick Settings Changes
</h2>

<p>
	Tablet users will be thrilled to know that some significant improvements are also headed their way through new gestures. These gestures will allow easier access to both the Start menu and Quick Settings panel by swiping up from the bottom of the screen. If you swipe up from the System Tray, this will launch the Quick Settings. On the other hand, swiping up anywhere else on the screen will open up the Start Menu.
</p>

<h2>
	Taskbar Functionality
</h2>

<p>
	Lastly, Windows 11 users will finally experience the missing functionality in the Taskbar. These include drag and drop support, better UI, and the ability to automatically hide the Taskbar when using the device’s Tablet mode.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	Of course, it’s highly likely that we missed several other features or that Microsoft will announce more over time. Here are all of the new features that are expected to be included for Insiders in the Dev Channel:
</p>

<p>

</p>

<ul>
	<li>
		App folders in Start
	</li>
	<li>
		Drag and drop on Taskbar
	</li>
	<li>
		Quick Settings / Notification Center improvements
	</li>
	<li>
		Pinned files in File Explorer
	</li>
	<li>
		Acrylic title bars
	</li>
	<li>
		Snap Bar snapping UX
	</li>
	<li>
		Gestures for Start/Quick Settings using touch
	</li>
	<li>
		New live captions feature
	</li>
</ul>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	The next major release of Windows 11 has the codename “Sun Valley 2,” and these are the features that will shape it. As always, Microsoft could still cancel or postpone some of these features from appearing, so we’ll have to wait and see.
</p>

	Firefox 97 was released <a data-wpel-link="internal" href="https://www.ghacks.net/2022/02/08/mozilla-firefox-97-0-here-is-what-is-new/" rel="external nofollow" target="_blank">this week</a>, and on paper, it didn't seem to bring anything important for a major version update. Well, there are changes that the release notes did not mention.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	<img alt="enable-hardware-video-acceleration-in-Fi" class="ipsImage" data-ratio="75.10" height="365" width="720" src="https://www.ghacks.net/wp-content/uploads/2022/02/enable-hardware-video-acceleration-in-Firefox-on-Linux.webp">
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	Firefox on Linux has had a problem related to hardware video acceleration for a while. The issue can be replicated, when the preference for it is enabled, the browser may not render videos correctly or fail to play them.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	Many users have <a data-wpel-link="external" href="https://old.reddit.com/r/firefox/comments/sobs4l/psa_for_linux_users_hardware_acceleration_has/" rel="external nofollow" target="_blank">reported</a> that the issue has been fixed in Firefox 97, except the solution is not enabled by default.
</p>

<h3>
	How to enable hardware video acceleration in Firefox on Linux
</h3>

<p>
	1. Open the Firefox preferences page by typing about:config in the address bar. Accept the warning about potential risks, and proceed. You know the drill.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	2. Search for the following preference.
</p>

<p>
	media.ffmpeg.vaapi.enabled
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	3. The option's value is set to False by default. Set the value to True.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	Note: You may also want to set the preference labeled "media.rdd-vpx.enabled" to true.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	What does changing the preference do? It tells the browser to use the Video Acceleration API (VA-API) for playing videos. Try playing some web videos, and the performance should be less taxing on your CPU.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	Hardware acceleration is often misunderstood by users, I've seen comments randomly suggesting users to disable the feature. If web pages are not loading properly, i.e. they are blank, you may try disabling the setting as a workaround, but this should be a last resort. Your ad-blocker, VPN, DNS settings can all play a role in pages not loading correctly. I had a similar issue with Chromium-based browsers in my Windows 11 VM where some buttons in the browser were not rendering, and had to disable hardware acceleration (not related to HW video acceleration) to get them working. But, that's a rare scenario, and usually related to video drivers, in my case it was a virtual machine, so that was likely the problem.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	Some people think that hardware acceleration uses more resources, and disabling it would help the program run better. It's actually quite the opposite, hardware acceleration uses your graphics card (GPU), to render the visual elements of web pages, and to play videos. By disabling this option, you are telling the browser to not use the GPU, and instead rely on the CPU for such tasks. This results in a higher than normal load on your processor, which in turn impacts your system's performance. Even if you don't have a dedicated graphics card, you should keep the option enabled for best results.
</p>

<h4>
	Project Fission is enabled in Firefox 97
</h4>

<p>
	This is another thing that went under the radar in the change-log, and applies to Windows users as well. Firefox 97 enables Project Fission by <a data-wpel-link="external" href="https://old.reddit.com/r/firefox/comments/solm7y/psa_fission_pref_enabled_by_default_in_firefox_97/" rel="external nofollow" target="_blank">defaul</a>t. The site-isolation option, that was introduced last year, provides an extra layer of security to protect your data. The about:config preference for Fission is fission.autostart. This value is set to True. <a data-wpel-link="external" href="https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=1732358" rel="external nofollow" target="_blank">Here</a> is the Bugzilla discussion related to it,
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	I updated to the latest version yesterday, and have not encountered any problems since. But, if you run into any issues after updating to Firefox 97, you may want to try changing the value of the option to false to see if that fixes it.
</p>

	Valve's Steam platform collects data from its users as well. The company runs monthly surveys, optional for customers, and uses the information gathered from these surveys to create hardware and software statistics.

</p>

<p>
	The <a data-wpel-link="external" href="https://store.steampowered.com/hwsurvey/" rel="external nofollow" target="_blank">stats for January 2022</a> see Microsoft's Windows 11 operating system at 13.56%, an increase of 3.41% over the previous month.

</p>

<p>
	Windows 10 lost 3.92% at the same time, but sits comfortably at 77.82% of all systems surveyed. Windows 7 rose by 0.49% surprisingly to 3.73% and Windows 8.1 dropped by 0.01% to 0.67% of all surveyed devices.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	Linux and Mac OS sit at 2.2.77% and 1.06% respectively according to the January 2022 survey.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	The 13.56% may also be a bit on the high side, considering that Steam is a gaming platform and that gamers are often interested in running the latest and greatest on their systems. Gamer PCs may also have a higher compatibility rate with Windows 11 than non-gaming devices, as modern games are more taxing and require better hardware.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	Not all Windows 10 devices can be upgraded to Microsoft's Windows 11 operating system directly. Microsoft changed the <a data-wpel-link="internal" href="https://www.ghacks.net/2021/10/05/what-does-this-pc-doesnt-currently-meet-all-the-system-requirements-for-windows-11-mean/" rel="external nofollow">minimum system requirements of Windows 11</a> and that decision blocks the upgrade on devices that don't meet these via Windows Update. The company's initial plan was to make the offer to all eligible PCs, those that meet the minimum system requirements, by mid-2022. The usage share of Windows 11 will continue to rise in the coming months, but it will be interesting to see how it develops after the offer has been made to all eligible devices.

	Microsoft reminded customers today that multiple editions of Windows 10, version 20H2 and Windows 10, version 1909 are quickly approaching the end of servicing (EOS).
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	In a <a href="https://docs.microsoft.com/en-US/lifecycle/announcements/windows-10-20h2-end-of-servicing" rel="external nofollow" target="_blank">support document</a> updated today, Microsoft stated that Windows 10 20H2 (also known as the October 2020 Update) will reach EOS on May 10, 2022.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	This announcement applies to Windows 10 Home, Pro, Pro, Pro Education, and Pro for Workstations users. It's also worth noting that Enterprise, Education, and IoT Enterprise editions will reach EOS on May 9, 2023.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	In a <a href="https://docs.microsoft.com/en-US/lifecycle/announcements/windows-10-1909-enterprise-education-eos" rel="external nofollow" target="_blank">separate notification</a>, Redmond added that Enterprise, Education, and IoT Enterprise editions of Windows 10 1909 will also reach their end of servicing on May 10, 2022 (Windows 10 1909 Home, Pro, Pro Education, and Pro for Workstations <a href="https://www.bleepingcomputer.com/news/microsoft/microsoft-windows-10-1809-and-1909-have-reached-end-of-service/" rel="external nofollow" target="_blank">reached EOS in May 2021</a>).
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	"These editions will no longer receive security updates after May 10, 2022. Customers who contact Microsoft Support after this date will be directed to update their device to the latest version of Windows 10 to remain supported," Microsoft explained.
</p>

<h2>
	Forced updates for devices reaching EOS
</h2>

<p>
	Until these editions of Windows 10 1909 and 20H2 reach EOS, Windows Update will force feature updates on consumer devices and non-managed business devices that reach the end of servicing.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	This way, Microsoft ensures that these systems remain supported and receive critical monthly updates, security updates, and improvements. When the feature update is initiated, customers will be able to choose a convenient restart time to complete the update.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	More information regarding end of service dates for supported versions of Windows 10 is available in the <a data-linktype="relative-path" href="https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/lifecycle/faq/windows" rel="external nofollow">Windows Lifecycle FAQ</a>, the <a data-linktype="external" href="https://support.microsoft.com/help/4035050/windows-10-serviced-versions-frequently-asked-questions" rel="external nofollow">Windows 10 Servicing Frequently Asked Questions</a>, and via <a data-linktype="absolute-path" href="https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/lifecycle/products/?terms=windows" rel="external nofollow" target="_blank">Microsoft's Lifecycle Policy search tool</a>.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	Redmond also provides customers with a complete <a href="https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/lifecycle/end-of-support/end-of-support-2022" rel="external nofollow" target="_blank">list of all products ending support or that will be retired in 2022</a>.
</p>

<h2>
	Windows 10 21H2 forced deployment
</h2>

<p>
	On January 21, Microsoft announced that it had <a href="https://www.bleepingcomputer.com/news/microsoft/microsoft-starts-force-installing-windows-10-21h2-on-more-devices/" rel="external nofollow" target="_blank">started a forced rollout of Windows 10, version 21H2</a> to more devices reaching EOS as part of a first machine learning (ML) training phase.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	Windows 10 21H2 is also rolling out to seekers (Windows users who manually check for updates) on Windows 10 2004 or later through a fast update experience very similar to monthly updates.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	If you're running a Windows 10 version nearing EoS and you're not offered to automatically update, you should manually check for an update via the Windows Update dialog.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	"As always, we recommend that you update your devices to the latest version of Windows 10 or upgrade eligible devices to Windows 11 to take advantage of the latest features and advanced protections from the latest security threats," the company said in January.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	You can easily check if your Windows 10 device is eligible for a Windows 11 upgrade using the <a data-linktype="external" href="https://www.microsoft.com/windows/windows-11#pchealthcheck" rel="external nofollow" target="_blank">PC Health Check app</a> or by visiting the <a data-linktype="external" href="https://www.microsoft.com/windows/windows-11-specifications" rel="external nofollow" target="_blank">Windows 11 specs, features, and computer requirements</a> page.

				If, like me, you’ve missed the taskbar time and date on multiple monitors in Windows 11, you’ll be pleased to hear it’s returning. Microsoft is finally bringing this functionality back after shipping Windows 11 last year without the ability to see the time or date on secondary displays.

The update also includes a public preview of Android apps for Windows 11, redesigned Notepad and Media Player apps, and a number of other taskbar improvements. The weather widget will return to the taskbar in this update, and a new mute / unmute feature in the taskbar will be available for Microsoft Teams calls. You’ll also be able to quickly screen share a specific app or window from the taskbar directly into a Microsoft Teams call.

	Microsoft has recently introduced an update to the Microsoft Your Phone app. The latest update adds a useful new feature that enables you to get quick access to your recently used apps right from the Windows Taskbar. However, the update to Microsoft Your Phone app is currently only available for Windows Insiders.

And as you may have guessed, this new Your Phone capability will be limited to select Samsung phones at this point in time. Even the Surface Duo users won't be able to get the benefit despite the fact that it can also open phone apps on your PC. Needless to say, it doesn't work with other Android smartphones, either.

		<p>
			The fact that Apple is working on a mixed reality platform is not new news, however. Based on job listings on Apple's careers site, numerous reliable reports, and other sources, Apple's mixed reality platform has been in development for years, with a team of thousands.
		</p>

		<p>

		</p>

		<p>
			The mixed reality platform has faced several delays, however. For example, Bloomberg reported back in 2017 that Apple's first headset was targeting a 2019 release date. That report called Apple's custom operating system for mixed reality devices "<a href="https://www.macrumors.com/2017/11/08/apple-augmented-reality-headset-2020/" rel="external nofollow">rOS</a>."
		</p>

		<p>

		</p>

		<p>
			Analysts like Ming-chi Kuo and reporters like Bloomberg's Mark Gurman have been claiming that a high-end mixed reality headset has been coming for a while. Some reports said a headset would come this year, but others recently claimed that one could arrive in 2023 instead. Details are fuzzy and contradictory.
		</p>

		<p>

		</p>

		<p>
			For example, <a href="https://appleinsider.com/articles/21/11/26/apple-ar-headset-to-feature-m1-mac-levels-of-processing-power-says-analyst" rel="external nofollow">Kuo has said</a> that the device will feature an M1-equivalent processor of its own. This suggests that it may be standalone and won't require an iPhone or Mac nearby. But <a href="https://arstechnica.com/gadgets/2021/09/apples-ar-headset-will-leave-a-lot-of-the-hard-work-to-the-iphone/" rel="external nofollow">another recent report</a> claimed that Apple plans to rely on processing on a nearby mobile device.
		</p>

		<p>

		</p>

		<p>
			Some of these differences could be because Apple is working on at least two different devices. One is expected to be a high-end, VR-capable headset for immersive content—that's the one expected this year or next. Another device would be AR glasses meant to be worn while walking around public spaces. But the company could also still be experimenting with a variety of product concepts, with the designs and distinguishing features yet to be finalized.

</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	According to serial leaker <a href="https://twitter.com/ALumia_Italia/status/1491346790050066432" rel="external nofollow">Aggiornamenti Lumia</a>, Samsung will announce a new Windows app called "Second Screen" to make some Galaxy Tab S tablets work as a secondary display. However, the leaker has provided no additional details about the new app except for what devices it will support.
</p>

<p>
	If the tipster is to be believed, the Second Screen app will require a Galaxy Book laptop with Windows V2004 or higher. Besides Galaxy Book, you'll also require the following supported tablets:
</p>

<p>

</p>

<ul>
	<li>
		Galaxy Tab S8
	</li>
	<li>
		Galaxy Tab S8 Plus
	</li>
	<li>
		Galaxy Tab S8 Ultra
	</li>
	<li>
		Galaxy Tab S7
	</li>
	<li>
		Galaxy Tab S7 Plus
	</li>
	<li>
		Galaxy Tab S7 FE
	</li>
</ul>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	However, it's worth noting the Galaxy Book laptop already has a feature called '<a href="https://www.neowin.net/news/samsung-might-expand-galaxy-tab-s7s-second-screen-feature-to-more-windows-pcs/" rel="external nofollow">Second Screen</a>' to let Galaxy Tab S owners wirelessly set up their tablets as additional monitors. The feature also mirrors the Galaxy Book to a Galaxy tablet, enabling the users to take advantage of the S Pen. The new app that Samsung is rumored to release does all of that, but it's not exactly clear whether it'll require a wireless connection.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	As mentioned by the leaker, the new Second Screen app will be available only for Galaxy Book users. So if you own one of the supported Galaxy Tab S tablets and don't have a Galaxy Book, you'll have to look for other third-party solutions.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	Samsung is not the only company that offers the feature. In 2019, Apple introduced a new feature called <a href="https://www.neowin.net/news/apple-announces-macos-1015-catalina-with-ipad-app-support-new-apple-music-app-and-more/" rel="external nofollow">Sidecar in macOS Catalina</a> to let Mac users extend their computer displays to iPads. A year later, Samsung took inspiration from Apple and came up with the Second Screen feature.
</p>

<p>

</p>

	In November last year, the <a href="https://www.neowin.net/news/you-can-already-try-the-all-new-whatsapp-for-windows-10-and-11-in-beta-if-it-works/" rel="external nofollow">WhatsApp Beta app made its way to Microsoft Store</a>, letting Windows 11 and Windows 10 users try the app during development. Ever since it appeared on the Microsoft Store, the Meta-owned instant chat messenger <a href="https://www.neowin.net/news/whatsapp-desktop-is-getting-a-windows-11-makeover/" rel="external nofollow">has gone through significant changes</a> to provide a more polished experience for Windows 10 and Windows 11 users. The latest update to the WhatsApp Beta app adds support for dark mode, making the app experience even better.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	Besides introducing support for dark mode, the update takes the app to Version 2.2205.2.0. Unfortunately, that's pretty much all that you get with the latest update.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	On the WhatsApp Beta Settings page, you'll find an option called 'General', clicking on which will open a new page, where you'll get to choose between 'System default', 'Light', and 'Dark.' Our readers are smart enough to understand what each of them means.
</p>

</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	For those unaware, the WhatsApp Beta app is based on Universal Windows Platform (UWP) and also takes advantage of Fluent Design elements in Windows 11. And all of this is possible because the WhatsApp development team recently moved to WinUI 2.6 or newer.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	If you have WhatsApp Beta installed on your PC and haven't installed the latest update yet, you can <a href="https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/p/whatsapp-beta/9nbdxk71nk08" rel="external nofollow">go to the Microsoft Store and check for an update</a>.

	A new version of the <a data-wpel-link="internal" href="https://www.ghacks.net/2016/04/06/vivaldi-web-browser-review/" rel="external nofollow">Vivaldi web browser</a>, Vivaldi 5.1, is now available for all supported desktop operating systems and for Android.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	<img alt="vivaldi-5.1-quick-settings.webp" class="ipsImage" data-ratio="75.10" height="474" width="720" src="https://www.ghacks.net/wp-content/uploads/2022/02/vivaldi-5.1-quick-settings.webp">
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	The new version of the Chromium-based web browser features several improvements, including support for horizontal scrolling tabs, reading list improvements, a new Quick Settings panel on the desktop, and theme and speed improvements on Android.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	The new Vivaldi 5.1 is distributed automatically through the built-in updating system. Desktop users may select Vivaldi Menu &gt; Help &gt; Check for Updates to speed up the process. Vivaldi's updating functionality should pick up the new version to download and install it automatically.
</p>

<h2>
	Vivaldi 5.1 for the Desktop
</h2>

<p>
	The new desktop version of the browser introduces several new features and improvements. Vivaldi is one of the most customizable browsers out there and the new Quick Settings Panel for the browser's New Tab page adds just another option to the range of tools and options.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	Instead of having to configure the New Tab page in Settings, Vivaldi users may activate the Quick Settings panel from the New Tab page directly to adjust the configuration right there.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	Options include the following:
</p>

<p>

</p>

<ul>
	<li>
		Change the background image.
	</li>
	<li>
		Change the size and maximum columns of tiles.
	</li>
	<li>
		Display or hide titles.
	</li>
	<li>
		Show Add and Delete buttons.
	</li>
	<li>
		Show or hide Start Page navigation bar.
	</li>
	<li>
		Show or hide the Search field.
	</li>
	<li>
		Show or hide the <a data-wpel-link="internal" href="https://www.ghacks.net/2020/10/15/vivaldi-3-4-lands-with-editable-context-menus-auto-reload-and-vivaldia/" rel="external nofollow">Vivaldia Game</a>.
	</li>
</ul>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	Horizontal Scrollable Tabs
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	<img alt="vivaldi-horizontal-tab-scrolling.webp" class="ipsImage" data-ratio="75.10" height="540" width="648" src="https://www.ghacks.net/wp-content/uploads/2022/02/vivaldi-horizontal-tab-scrolling.webp">
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	Most Chromium-based browsers don't support horizontal scrolling of the tab bar. <a data-wpel-link="internal" href="https://www.ghacks.net/2016/06/12/handle-browser-tabs/" rel="external nofollow">Tabs get smaller and smaller</a> as more are added to the browser and eventually, you end up with <a data-wpel-link="internal" href="https://www.ghacks.net/2017/01/18/chrome-annoyance-new-tabs-not-added-to-tab-bar-anymore/" rel="external nofollow">tabs not being shown anymore on the tab bar</a>.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	Granted, Google did introduce an <a data-wpel-link="internal" href="https://www.ghacks.net/2020/10/06/it-took-google-more-than-a-decade-to-add-tab-bar-scrolling-to-chrome/" rel="external nofollow">experimental flag in 2020 that enables Tab Scrolling</a>.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	You need to enable the horizontal scrolling option in Settings &gt; Tabs &gt; Tabs Bar. Check the Enable Horizontal Scrolling option to do so. You may then use the arrow icons or the mouse to scroll the tab bar. Note that scrolling is only enabled if enough tabs are open.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	You may also long-press on an arrow icon to display the full list of tabs open in Vivaldi. Horizontal scrolling works perfectly fine with the <a data-wpel-link="internal" href="https://www.ghacks.net/2021/01/28/vivaldi-3-6-launches-with-two-level-tab-stacks-feature/" rel="external nofollow">two-level tab stacking feature of the Vivaldi browser</a>.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	<strong>Reading List</strong>
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	<img alt="vivaldi-reading-list.webp" class="ipsImage" data-ratio="75.10" height="474" width="720" src="https://www.ghacks.net/wp-content/uploads/2022/02/vivaldi-reading-list.webp">
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	The Reading List allows Vivaldi users to save articles that they come across. It works similarly to bookmarks on first glance, as it keeps track of pages on the web. Unlike bookmarks, Vivaldi's Reading List focuses on articles. It keeps track of the reading status and loads them in Reader View, an optimized view for reading articles in the browser.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	Reading List is not enabled by default. You need to go to Settings &gt; Address Bar &gt; Reading List to enable the icon. Once done, you may activate it when you are on a page with an article to add that article to the list.
</p>

<h2>
	Vivaldi 5.1 for Android
</h2>

<p>
	The Android version of the Vivaldi web browser has been updated as well to version 5.1. Vivaldi users who have lots of tabs open in the browser should notice a speed boost after the upgrade to the new version.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	There is also a new option to change the minimum tab width in the mobile browser. To do so, visit Settings &gt; Tab. There you find the minimum tab width setting that you can use to change the default value.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	Last but not least, Vivaldi 5.1 for Android adds more theme colors. Four preset colors and an option to pick a custom color are now available under Settings &gt; Appearance &gt; Theme &gt; Accent color.
</p>

<p>

</p>

	Anyone using Windows 7, Windows Server 2008 R2, Windows Embedded Standard 7, or Windows Embedded POS Ready 7 and pays for extended security update (ESU) support, can now install the latest Patch Tuesday update (<a href="https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/topic/february-8-2022-kb5010404-monthly-rollup-af5d0957-545c-494c-b02e-172d91b8c629" rel="external nofollow">KB5010404</a>) via the Windows Update tool. Similar to the <a href="https://www.neowin.net/news/windows-81-february-patch-tuesday-update-kb5010419-out-now/" rel="external nofollow">Windows 8.1 update</a>, the Windows 7 update includes quite a number of improvements and fixes and a few known issues.
</p>

<h3>
	Improvements and fixes
</h3>

<p>
	This security update includes improvements and fixes that were a part of update <a href="https://support.microsoft.com/help/5009610" rel="external nofollow">KB5009610</a> (released January 11, 2022) and update <a href="https://support.microsoft.com/help/5010798" rel="external nofollow">KB5010798</a> (released January 17, 2022). Additionally, this update also addresses the following issues:
</p>

<p>

</p>

<ul>
	<li>
		Updates daylight savings time to start in February 2022 instead of March 2022 in Jordan.
	</li>
	<li>
		Addresses SHA1 deprecation by removing specific SHA1-signed security and non-security fixes and resigned those fixes with SHA2 in this release.
	</li>
	<li>
		Addresses an issue in which a Lightweight Directory Access Protocol (LDAP) modify operation that contains the SamAccountName together with the UserAccountControl attributes fails with “Error: 0x20EF The directory service encountered an unknown failure.”
	</li>
	<li>
		Addresses an issue in which Windows Server 2008 R2 domain controllers (DCs) fail to process NTLM pass-through authentication.
	</li>
	<li>
		Adds an audit event on Active Directory domain controllers that identifies clients that are not RFC-4456 compliant. For more information, see <a href="https://support.microsoft.com/topic/kb5005408-smart-card-authentication-might-cause-print-and-scan-failures-514f0bc5-ecde-4e5e-8c5a-2a776d7fb89a" rel="external nofollow">KB5005408—Smart card authentication might cause print and scan failures</a>.
	</li>
</ul>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	As mentioned earlier, there are two known issues in this update but they both feature workarounds that you can apply if you’re affected.
</p>

<p>

</p>

					This is expected in the following circumstances:

					</li>
					<li>

					</li>
				</ul>

				<p>
					Microsoft is working on a resolution and will provide an update in an upcoming release.
				</p>
			</td>
		</tr>
	</tbody>
</table>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	Provided your system is fairly up-to-date, you should be OK grabbing the update from Windows Update. It should be noted, however, that there’s quite a long list of prerequisites that you can check out on <a href="https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/topic/february-8-2022-kb5010404-monthly-rollup-af5d0957-545c-494c-b02e-172d91b8c629" rel="external nofollow">Microsoft Support</a> under the section about how to get the update.

	Hot on the heels of the recent leak related to some interesting <a href="https://www.neowin.net/news/windows-11-upcoming-features-leak-tablet-mode-taskbar-notification-changes-and-stickers/" rel="external nofollow">Windows 11 features like Stickers, among many more</a>, we have another leak today, courtesy once again of Twitter user Albacore, that reveals more of such upcoming changes to Microsoft's OS.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	First up, it looks like there will be a new prompt inside System settings that will remind those users that are running Windows 11 on unsupported PCs. The image shows a "System requirements not met", ending with a "Learn more" link at the end that probably opens on some Microsoft page that explains the Windows 11 system requirements.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	<img alt="1644340203_win_11_system_requirement_rem" class="ipsImage" data-ratio="59.31" height="405" width="720" src="https://cdn.neow.in/news/images/uploaded/2022/02/1644340203_win_11_system_requirement_reminder_(via-_albacore_twitter)_story.jpg">
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	When Microsoft introduced Windows 11, it was received with criticism due to the <a href="https://www.neowin.net/news/windows-11-is-coming-soon---heres-what-to-expect-system-requirements-and-more/" rel="external nofollow">very strict system requirements the new OS demanded</a>, though the company <a href="https://www.neowin.net/news/microsoft-explains-why-tpm-20-and-vbs-on-windows-11-are-so-key-for-next-gen-security/" rel="external nofollow">explained why all this was necessary</a>, and even <a href="https://www.neowin.net/news/microsoft-demoes-hacker-attacks-on-pcs-with-no-tpm-vbs-and-more/" rel="external nofollow">showed some live demos of the benefits of such stringent criteria</a>. And it looks like the firm does not want users to forget about them either seeing how there is apparently a new change just to remind that.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	Moving on, we have another feature leak that probably a lot of the Windows enthusiast community, including our readers here at Neowin will likely appreciate.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	It looks like Microsoft will be adding a new overflow flyout to the Taskbar that will help choosing between different running apps easier. The before and after image comparison below shows this change:
</p>

</p>

<p>
	<img alt="1644340198_win_11_tasbar_overflow_(via-_" class="ipsImage" data-ratio="87.24" height="540" width="471" src="https://cdn.neow.in/news/images/uploaded/2022/02/1644340198_win_11_tasbar_overflow_(via-_albacore_twitter).jpg">
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	More additions to Taskbar may also be in the pipeline but we can't be sure of that yet, at least not until more leaks surface.
