	Meeting conflicts are a frequent problem in large organizations. Employees often waste meaningful work time trying to schedule meetings without overlaps. To address this, Microsoft is introducing a new Copilot feature in the <a automate_uuid="4085d9df-03b9-407f-849a-a642926bb4ed" href="https://www.neowin.net/news/microsoft-finds-new-way-to-quietly-get-you-on-new-outlook-for-windows-without-forcing/" rel="external nofollow">new Outlook for Windows</a> and Outlook for the web that can automatically manage conflicting meetings.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	With this feature, Copilot can move personal appointments and one-on-one meetings if another meeting lands on the same time slot and takes precedence. It is suitable for situations like recurring check-ins where the meeting doesn’t have to happen at the exact same time every week. Once enabled, users can ask Copilot to manage the meeting, and it will monitor their calendar and adjust the event if users schedule or accept a conflicting meeting.
</p>

<p class="img-center">
	<img alt="Copilot scheduling" class="ipsImage" height="407" width="720" src="https://cdn.neowin.com/news/images/uploaded/2026/02/1772259509_copilot_scheduling_events.webp">
</p>

<p>
	Here's how users can enable this feature:
</p>

<p>

</p>

<ul>
	<li>
		Go to the new Outlook for Windows or Outlook for the web.
	</li>
	<li>
		In the New &gt; Event page, or an existing event or series page, there will be a new "If conflicts arise, let Copilot reschedule this event" toggle; enable it.
	</li>
	<li>
		Optionally, under Acceptable times, users can configure the day(s) and timeframe(s) they are available to find the best alternatives if Copilot needs to reschedule the event or series. This is an optional step to get better results.
	</li>
</ul>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	This feature will only work with events with a status of Busy or Out of office. If the conflicting meeting is set to Tentative, Copilot won’t reschedule it.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	Users will also receive notifications about rescheduling changes in the Outlook notifications pane. In the future, Copilot will also send emails when a meeting is rescheduled. This new Copilot <a automate_uuid="3e94e601-788b-4ddc-b34e-c2158bcb77cb" href="https://techcommunity.microsoft.com/blog/microsoft365insiderblog/copilot-can-reschedule-conflicting-events-in-outlook/4471514" rel="external nofollow">feature</a> is now rolling out on Teams, Outlook for the web, and the new Outlook for Windows for Microsoft 365 Copilot Enterprise license users. It is Friday, which often means Windows Insiders have new Windows 11 builds to try. Today, Microsoft released build 26300.7939 (Dev Channel) and build 26220.7934 (Beta Channel). Both updates share similar changelogs that include improvements to shared audio, enhancements for security and performance in batch files, and more.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	Here is the changelog:
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	[<strong>Enhanced security and performance for batch files</strong>]
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	We are giving administrators and Application Control for Business policy authors additional controls over the processing of batch files and CMD scripts. Starting with this release, administrators may enable a more secure mode for processing batch files that ensures they do not change during execution by adding a value to the registry key HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Command Processor named LockBatchFilesInUse (DWORD, value 0 or 1). Policy authors may also use the LockBatchFilesWhenInUse application manifest control documented here to enable this mode.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	This enhances the performance and security of batch file processing when code integrity is enabled, as signature validation will only required to be performed a single time, instead of per statement executed in the batch file.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	[<strong>Shared audio (preview) gets more control</strong>]
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	Shared audio (preview) was first announced last fall, and allows 2 people to share audio between their two capable Bluetooth LE Audio headphones, speakers, earbuds, or hearing aids. With this update Windows now provides individual sliders for each listener which adjusts their volume without affecting the other. You can continue to adjust volume for both listeners at the same time through the main volume controls available through Quick Settings or on-device and keyboard controls.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	You’ll also see a new taskbar indicator while you’re sharing, giving a quick reminder that audio is still being shared. Clicking the indicator is a fast path to open sharing settings to change volume or stop sharing.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	The LE Audio accessory ecosystem also continues to grow. In addition to the accessories announced before, we’re excited to share that the Samsung Galaxy Buds 4 and Buds 4 Pro, Sony WF‑1000XM6, and Xbox Wireless Headset all have support for shared audio!
</p>

<p class="img-center">
	<img alt="Shared Audio UI in Windows 11" class="ipsImage" src="https://cdn.neowin.com/news/images/uploaded/2026/02/1772216053_shared_audio.webp">
</p>

<p>
	[<strong>Narrator</strong>]
</p>

<p>

</p>

<ul>
	<li>
		Narrator users can now use a new command Narrator key + \ to read contents of status bar in Apps such as Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc. For example, in Microsoft Word, users can use this to read count of pages or words in a document. In Microsoft Excel, users can select a few data cells and hear sum or average of the data in the selected cells without having to change your focus.
	</li>
</ul>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	[<strong>Taskbar</strong>]
</p>

<p>

</p>

<ul>
	<li>
		We temporarily paused the rollout of the improved animations when your taskbar is set to autohide, and improved reliability of loading taskbar components in safe mode. Thanks, Insiders, for sharing feedback!
	</li>
</ul>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	[<strong>Storage</strong>]
</p>

<p>

</p>

<ul>
	<li>
		Improved reliability of removing Windows Update files / windows.old files via Settings &gt; System &gt; Storage.
	</li>
</ul>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	[<strong>Input</strong>]
</p>

<p>

</p>

<ul>
	<li>
		Improved reliability of typing when using the ADLaM keyboard.
	</li>
</ul>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	In addition to that, Microsoft released <a automate_uuid="29e446a8-37bc-4e9d-95ec-d88d97823eda" href="https://www.neowin.net/news/a-highly-requested-feature-is-finally-coming-to-paint-in-windows-11/" rel="external nofollow">the latest update for Paint </a>in the Beta Channel. Previously, the free rotate tool was only available to insiders in the Dev and Canary Channels, and now, you can try it if your PC is enrolled in the Beta Channel as well.

	<a automate_uuid="1dd7e713-e50f-45d4-b6f9-87a9095554c0" href="https://www.neowin.net/news/windows-8s-file-system-refs-detailed-in-new-blog-post/" rel="external nofollow">ReFS (Resilient File System)</a> is a file system developed by Microsoft for Windows, designed to improve data integrity, scalability, and resilience compared to NTFS. It was introduced back in 2012 with the Windows Server 2012 release.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	Over the years, Microsoft has improved ReFS significantly. After the initial release in 2012, Microsoft released an updated version with better performance and stability, tiered storage support, and faster metadata operations in 2013.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	With Windows Server 2016, Microsoft announced a major update with support for block cloning (instant file copy for VMs and databases), sparse VDL (Valid Data Length) for faster virtual disk creation, improved Hyper-V integration, and more. With Windows Server 2019 and Windows Server 2022, Microsoft further improved ReFS with <a automate_uuid="de962487-cdae-465e-84ab-2c7a2c980db3" href="https://www.neowin.net/news/bootable-windows-on-refs-still-not-ready-for-prime-time-due-to-lack-of-wider-compatibility/" rel="external nofollow">performance enhancements</a>, improved repair and integrity performance, and more.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	Today, Microsoft <a automate_uuid="df8343e7-b794-4972-a805-5d844f68dc8f" href="https://techcommunity.microsoft.com/blog/windowsservernewsandbestpractices/announcing-refs-boot-for-windows-server-insiders/4496592" rel="external nofollow">announced </a>that ReFS boot support is now available for Windows Server Insiders in Insider Preview builds. With this, users can install and boot Windows Server directly on a ReFS boot volume. This is the first time Microsoft is enabling boot support for ReFS nearly 14 years after its launch.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	Microsoft claims that ReFS boot will enable several advantages over existing NTFS boot. For example, ReFS can detect corruption early and handle file-system issues online without requiring chkdsk. Also, its integrity-first design can reduce the risk of crash-induced corruption. While current NTFS systems support large volumes, ReFS can now support volumes up to 35 petabytes (35,000 TB) to eliminate storage capacity issues.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	Finally, ReFS uses block cloning and sparse provisioning, allowing enterprises to easily create and expand large fixed-size VHD(X) files and speed up large file copy operations.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	Here's how enterprises can try out ReFS boot support on Windows Server:
</p>

<p>

</p>

<ul>
	<li>
		<p>
			Install the recent Windows Server vNext Insider Preview. Builds from 2/11/26 or later (minimum build number 29531.1000.260206-1841) include ReFS boot in setup.
		</p>
	</li>
	<li>
		<p>
			During the install process, format the system (C:) partition as ReFS in the installation UI. Microsoft highlighted that ReFS boot requires UEFI firmware and does not support legacy BIOS boot.
		</p>
	</li>
	<li>
		<p>
			Once the installation is completed and the system boots, confirm the ReFS file system by checking the C drive properties.
		</p>

		<p>

		</p>
	</li>
</ul>

<p>
	ReFS boot support is a significant step for enterprise deployments, offering organizations a modern file system alternative to NTFS, which has been the standard for decades.
</p>

Now, Microsoft has detailed all the new features it added to Teams during the month, and thankfully, <a automate_uuid="62edbaab-1d64-41eb-9de8-f9c1a80c834c" href="https://www.neowin.net/news/here-are-all-the-new-features-microsoft-added-to-teams-in-january-2026/" rel="external nofollow">the list is as long as it usually is</a>.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	Starting off with improvements to chat and collaboration, we have the ability to forward up to five messages simultaneously, while preserving order. Additionally, the Files tab now has a handy preview-based grid format, which allows you to find your content quickly. Moreover, Microsoft has introduced more Trust Indicators for external collaborators that belong to trusted and familiar domains versus unknown domains.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	In terms of meeting enhancements, the Redmond tech giant has unified the Copilot experience in Teams meetings across chats, channels, and meetings, so that the interaction surface is similar to the Microsoft 365 Copilot app. In the same vein, meeting recap templates can be customized according to your preferred AI integrations and styling and now include visual indicators too, in the form of thumbnail previews. Other improvements in this area include resizable right and top galleries so you can customize your meeting layout, custom banners for recordings and transcriptions to be leveraged by IT admins, and network strength indicators.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	As usual, we also have new devices certified for Microsoft Teams. These include:
</p>

<p>

</p>

<ul>
	<li>
		Lenovo ThinkSmart Tiny Kit
	</li>
	<li>
		Lenovo ThinkSmart One Pro with ThinkSmart or IP Controller
	</li>
	<li>
		Lenovo Wired VoIP Headset 5000
	</li>
	<li>
		Biamp Vidi 280
	</li>
	<li>
		Biamp Vidi Content Cam 250
	</li>
	<li>
		Biamp All-in-One Video Bar Parlé VBC 2800 and Parlé VBC 2800 Teams Rooms system
	</li>
</ul>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	While these are most of the mainstream improvements, Microsoft also has more features in tow for Teams Phone, Teams Rooms, and IT admins. You can find out more details in the company's blog post <a automate_uuid="ecb08d64-b7cf-4a4c-b076-1a360cee275c" href="https://techcommunity.microsoft.com/blog/microsoftteamsblog/what%E2%80%99s-new-in-microsoft-teams--february-2026/4497206" rel="external nofollow">here</a>.

	VMware released a new version of Workstation Pro to address several bugs and security issues. With version 25H2 U1, developers finally re-enabled updates within the app, allowing users to update existing installations without downloading a new installer. Previously, the app would throw a connection error when trying to check for updates.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	In addition, the latest release fixes bugs with VM crashes on systems with Hyper-V, performance slowdowns, disappearing mouse cursor, and more. Here is the changelog:
</p>

<p>

</p>

<ul>
	<li>
		When running on a Windows host with Hyper-V enabled, VMs might quit unexpectedly
	</li>
	<li>
		On Windows hosts, guest operating systems sometimes appear to be slow and unresponsive to input
	</li>
	<li>
		When moving the mouse cursor between monitors in full-screen mode, the mouse cursor disappears
	</li>
	<li>
		Vulkan presentation mode might cause several bugs in some Windows host hardware configurations
	</li>
	<li>
		On Windows hosts, full-screen mode displays a 1-pixel white border around the screen of the guest operating system
	</li>
	<li>
		After rebooting a host, virtual machines with Windows XP or Windows Vista operating systems that have 3D graphics acceleration enabled display a black screen or a low-resolution screen without full color support
	</li>
	<li>
		When attempting USB pass-through on Windows hosts, the USB devices might not be listed, intermittently disconnect, or fail to connect
	</li>
</ul>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	Also, the update fixed four security vulnerabilities: <a automate_uuid="01fb9cd8-2c8c-4c21-956d-f1de96b6f140" href="https://www.cve.org/CVERecord?id=CVE-2026-22715" rel="external nofollow">CVE-2026-22715</a>, <a automate_uuid="0a6c5375-4979-4741-b5ba-39fd70926c13" href="https://www.cve.org/CVERecord?id=CVE-2026-22716" rel="external nofollow">CVE-2026-22716</a>, <a automate_uuid="4999db04-a76c-4319-a4f0-2c10387a8c02" href="https://www.cve.org/CVERecord?id=CVE-2026-22717" rel="external nofollow">CVE-2026-22717</a>, and <a automate_uuid="5ccf16a0-8167-4515-a3da-924ce5286830" href="https://www.cve.org/CVERecord?id=CVE-2026-22722" rel="external nofollow">CVE-2026-22722</a>.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	There is one known issue in the update, which currently lacks a workaround:
</p>

<p>

</p>

<ul>
	<li>
		<strong>After downgrading the hardware compatibility of an encrypted virtual machine with vTPM from hardware version 22, the virtual machine fails to start</strong><br>
		<br>
		Downgrading the hardware compatibility of an encrypted virtual machine with vTPM, which was created by using VMware Workstation 25H2 and configured with hardware version 22, to any lower version is not supported. A new vTPM version is introduced with hardware version 22 that is incompatible with older hardware versions. If a downgrade is attempted, the virtual machine fails to start.
	</li>
</ul>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	Full release notes for the update are available <a automate_uuid="d9597d79-32e2-46e0-a41a-5d9b6d48b38b" href="https://techdocs.broadcom.com/us/en/vmware-cis/desktop-hypervisors/workstation-pro/25H2/release-notes/vmware-workstation-pro-25h2u1-release-notes.html" rel="external nofollow">here</a>. Today is a graphics driver-filled day, as now AMD has joined in on releasing a new update following <a automate_uuid="f69e4672-e0f9-4f08-8651-2eee87ba0f93" href="https://www.neowin.net/news/intels-new-gpu-driver-brings-massive-resident-evil-requiem-and-witcher-3-fps-improvements/" rel="external nofollow" target="_blank">Intel </a>and <a automate_uuid="9c1938df-36b0-4427-a9c6-d580660eabc1" href="https://www.neowin.net/news/nvidia-59559-driver-brings-resident-evil-requiem-support-and-more/" rel="external nofollow" target="_blank">Nvidia's </a>drops. The AMD Software: Adrenalin Edition 26.2.2 driver is here with support for the biggest two game releases happening soon: Capcom's horror experience <em>Resident Evil Requiem</em> and Bungie's extraction shooter <em>Marathon</em>.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	AMD hasn't gone into detail on what sort of improvements the driver brings to these titles, but it's a recommended install for both before jumping in. It may be a good idea to install the driver before playing <em>Marathon's </em>server slam beta that's kicking off today too.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	The fixed issues of this driver are these:
</p>

<p>

</p>

<ul>
	<li>
		Intermittent application crash or driver timeout may be observed while playing <em>Roblox </em><em>Player </em>(Car Zone Racing &amp; Drifting) when task switching between media on Radeon™ RX 7000 series products.
	</li>
	<li>
		Texture flickering or corruption may appear while using Windows desktop applications with Instant Replay and Record Desktop enabled on Radeon™ RX 7000 series products.
	</li>
</ul>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	Here are the known issues the driver team is still working on:
</p>

<p>

</p>

<ul>
	<li>
		Intermittent application crash or driver timeout may be observed while loading a saved game in <em>Cyberpunk 2077</em> with Path Tracing enabled. AMD is actively working on a resolution with the developer to be released as soon as possible.
	</li>
	<li>
		Intermittent application crash or driver timeout may be observed while playing <em>Battlefield™ 6 </em>on AMD Ryzen AI 9 HX 370. AMD is actively working on a resolution with the developer to be released as soon as possible.
	</li>
	<li>
		Texture flickering or corruption may appear while playing <em>Battlefield™ 6 </em>with AMD Record and Stream on some AMD Graphics Products.
	</li>
	<li>
		AMD FSR Upscaling and AMD FSR Frame Generation may show as inactive in AMD Software: Adrenalin Edition when playing <em>Yakuza Kiwami 3 &amp; Dark Ties</em>, <em>Call of Duty®: Black Ops 7,</em> and <em>Resident Evil Requiem</em> when enabled on Radeon™ RX 9000 series graphics products.
	</li>
</ul>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	The new AMD Software: Adrenalin Edition 26.2.2 driver is now available for download from the AMD Software app as well as its <a automate_uuid="aa1aa9c7-9ddf-4b71-ac05-811984f4e774" href="https://www.amd.com/en/resources/support-articles/release-notes/RN-RAD-WIN-26-2-2.html" rel="external nofollow" target="_blank">official changelog page</a>.

	Earlier today, NVIDIA, <a automate_uuid="892936ba-8217-413f-8f10-61cef59dcd67" href="https://www.neowin.net/news/intels-new-gpu-driver-brings-massive-resident-evil-requiem-and-witcher-3-fps-improvements/" rel="external nofollow">alongside Intel</a> and <a automate_uuid="ae62fc84-950a-41f7-9f36-e5730ca4ac70" href="https://www.neowin.net/news/amd-2622-driver-is-here-with-resident-evil-requiem-and-marathon-support/" rel="external nofollow">AMD</a>, released a new graphics driver with optimizations for <em>Resident Evil Requiem </em>and <em>Marathon. </em><a automate_uuid="83d3c65e-7bb8-4bf0-ad21-becc8c406633" href="https://www.neowin.net/news/nvidia-59559-driver-brings-resident-evil-requiem-support-and-more/" rel="external nofollow">Driver 595.59 WHQL</a> also brought some bug fixes and improvements for other games. However, several hours later, NVIDIA had to pull the driver, as it discovered an important issue affecting the user experience.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	NVIDIA has updated the announcement article with details about the issue. According to the company, driver 595.59 WHQL caused issues with fan controls, with users reporting not being able to detect any fans in applications. Here is what the company says:
</p>

<blockquote class="QuoteNewsStyle">
	<p>
		<strong>February 26th, 11am PT Update</strong>: We have discovered a bug in the Game Ready and Studio 595.59 WHQL drivers and have removed the downloads temporarily while our team investigates. For users that have already installed this driver and are experiencing issues with fan control, please roll back to 591.86 WHQL.
	</p>

	<p>

	</p>

	<p>
		NVIDIA app users can reinstall their previous driver by clicking the three dots in the Drivers tab.
	</p>
</blockquote>

<p>
	If you are already on driver 595.59 WHQL and you cannot control fans in your preferred software, the best course of action is to go back to driver 591.86 WHQL, which you can download <a automate_uuid="c0ecce00-929a-4103-afc8-d6e69324f71d" href="https://www.neowin.net/news/nvidias-new-59186-driver-adds-support-for-arc-raiders-headwind-and-more/" rel="external nofollow">here</a>.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	NVIDIA's drivers have been mostly pain-free during the last few months. However, at the start of the RTX 5000 Series, NVIDIA experienced <a automate_uuid="696d13f8-dac2-4537-aa88-fb4c5c60fb23" href="https://www.neowin.net/news/nvidia-confirms-rtx-5060-black-screens-and-compatibility-issues-with-certain-motherboards/" rel="external nofollow">a flood of bugs and critical issues</a>, causing massive frustration for affected customers. Fortunately, NVIDIA managed to resolve them and get back to more or less stable releases. This time, however, a bug slipped under NVIDIA's radar and ended up messing with fan control software for affected users.

	Intel's driver team has a new release ready for discrete and integrated GPU holders from the company. Today's 32.0.101.8531 non-WHQL release is touting support for several of the highest-profile games releasing soon, including <em>Resident Evil Requiem, Marathon, </em>and the<em> World of Warcraft: Midnight</em> expansion.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	Outside of new games support, the company has also confirmed better frame rates across its product lines for a couple of games.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	When running <em>The </em><em>Witcher 3: Wild Hunt</em> on the Intel Core Ultra series 3's built-in Arc GPUs, the game should see performance boosts of up to 35%. Meanwhile, Arc A-series and B-series GPU owners should be seeing performance uplifts of up to 40% and 7%, respectively, on <em>Resident Evil Requiem</em>. All these results are comparing the performance to the <a automate_uuid="d0edc60e-8563-40fb-81a1-71d1305c0278" href="https://www.neowin.net/news/intel-expands-xess-multi-frame-generation-to-battlemage-alchemist-gpus-and-more/" rel="external nofollow">32.0.101.8509 driver</a> from earlier this month.

	Recently, news emerged about Microsoft making <a automate_uuid="57e400dc-cc22-48c2-a219-f4662b743db0" href="https://www.neowin.net/news/windows-update-ends-support-for-printer-drivers/" rel="external nofollow">important changes to printer driver support</a> in Windows 11. Microsoft said that starting January 2026, Windows would stop supporting V3 and V4 printer drivers, as they were deprecated in late 2023. This led many to think that their old printers would stop working after installing the latest Windows updates. As it turns out, that was not true.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	Microsoft issued a new statement to clarify that the initial announcement about the discontinued V3 and V4 printer drivers was inaccurate. As such, the company removed it from the Windows Roadmap website and explained that all printers that currently work with Windows 11 will continue working, and there are no actions required from users. However, each new legacy driver submitted to Hardware Quality Labs and published to Windows Update will be approved on a case-by-case basis.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	Here is the original announcement:
</p>

<blockquote class="QuoteNewsStyle">
	<p>
		"January 2026, Windows will no longer support V3 and V4 printer drivers. These older driver models were announced as deprecated in September 2023."
	</p>
</blockquote>

<p>
	And here is the latest statement from a Microsoft spokesperson:
</p>

<blockquote class="QuoteNewsStyle">
	<p>
		"Windows has not ended support for legacy printer drivers. If your printer works with Windows today, it will continue to work, and no action is required."
	</p>
</blockquote>

<p>
	So what is actually going on? For users, nothing. If you have a computer connected to an old printer, it should continue working as is. For manufacturers and driver developers, though, legacy drivers can only be approved as exceptions. Microsoft wants everyone to use the modern printing stack and clean it of legacy drivers (it is ditching V3 and V4 drivers in favor of the Mopria standard that makes it easier for Windows to print on any printer), but that does not mean that the company intends to kill your 15-year-old Brother.

	Microsoft is<a automate_uuid="397e70b8-d1ff-473f-8c32-44331970da4f" href="https://www.neowin.net/news/new-ai-powered-summaries-coming-to-copilot-notebooks-this-march/" rel="external nofollow"> constantly coming up with new creative ways to integrate Copilot into every bit of its services</a>. This time, it’s adding a new Edge feature that will automatically open the Copilot side pane whenever you click a link from Outlook.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	The idea here is to allow users to “get more value from Copilot while extending productive browsing time in Edge.” You get an email with a link, you click it, and instead of just loading the page, Edge opens Copilot alongside it. Copilot then highlights key points and offers actionable suggestions, like scheduling a follow-up or drafting a reply, or just summarizes what’s on that particular page.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	The company announced this feature today on<a automate_uuid="aa5e8163-e1fe-48f6-8d92-233270c2fd8b" href="https://www.microsoft.com/microsoft-365/roadmap?id=557561" rel="external nofollow"> the new Microsoft 365 roadmap page</a>. The rollout is scheduled to begin in May and is listed as “General availability,” so it should roll out to most users (personal and business) without special licensing beyond what's needed for Copilot access.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	Microsoft already introduced a more primitive Outlook context pane that automatically shows up when you open email links in Edge back in 2023, and has since been expanding<a automate_uuid="cb8cda32-5931-4fb0-b224-b66c27a2432a" href="https://www.neowin.net/news/microsoft-edge-for-business-adds-direct-copilot-integration-for-office-documents-and-youtube/" rel="external nofollow"> Copilot's reach across Office documents and YouTube</a>. Now that section of the browser will get “smarter” with new AI capabilities. At the moment, the Outlook pane isn’t enabled by default. It will be interesting to see whether Microsoft keeps it that way once Copilot arrives, or whether users who don’t want it will have to go out of their way to disable it in Settings.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	New Copilot integrations can hardly be considered news anymore, as they happen on a daily basis. Microsoft clearly wants Copilot in front of as many people as possible, whether they asked for it or not. <a automate_uuid="2c96579c-bb68-4525-a454-93d2ece59564" href="https://www.neowin.net/news/microsoft-claims-copilot-is-the-best-productivity-app-bundled-in-windows/" rel="external nofollow">Copilot was recently declared the best productivity app by Microsoft</a>, so this announcement, which mentions productive browsing time, aligns with that. Whether that aligns with how you actually measure productivity is a different topic.

	Microsoft has been on a deprecation spree with Windows 11 in the last handful of years, so it's no surprise to see that people believed Microsoft when it said that support for legacy printer drivers was being deprecated. We recently covered all the <a automate_uuid="1b5e7f0b-01cd-4576-a165-ed75c0764220" href="https://www.neowin.net/news/here-are-all-the-new-features-microsoft-added-to-excel-in-february-2026/" rel="external nofollow">new features that Microsoft added to Excel</a> during the month of February 2026. There were not many additions to speak of, but one other change that has kicked off in the popular spreadsheet software is the consolidation of App Skills into Copilot.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	For those unaware, App Skills in Excel allowed users to trigger actions via conversational prompts powered by Copilot. This allowed them to play around with data, create charts, formulas, and more in Excel, <a automate_uuid="db0ad686-82ac-4290-8cdf-093008ad1d22" href="https://www.neowin.net/news/excel-for-windows-can-now-build-complex-solutions-on-your-behalf/" rel="external nofollow">similar to Agent Mode</a>. This experience could be initiated via the Copilot drop-down in the Excel ribbon, but Microsoft is now getting rid of it.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	To be fair, the rationale for this UX change is understandable. Customers had been complaining to Microsoft that multiple Copilot entry points within the same application result in a fragmented experience, which is why the company is now transitioning towards a more unified experience that offers App Skills functionalities directly in Copilot Chat and Agent Mode.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	This redesign was communicated to enterprise customers back in November 2025 and began rolling out late last year. Although this change should now have reached all customers, the App Skills option may still be visible to some. However, if they try to trigger it, they will run into an error message that will explain that App Skills are no longer available.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	Agent Mode is already a more powerful tool than Excel, so rather than fragmenting functionalities across two separate interfaces, Microsoft is <a automate_uuid="9bd43edb-d554-480a-a12a-a4983fb0d0a5" href="https://techcommunity.microsoft.com/blog/excelblog/app-skills-is-evolving-with-copilot-in-excel/4496577" rel="external nofollow">combining</a> the two. This will result in more clarity for end-users while also allowing Microsoft to build new capabilities in a more focused way for a single experience. This still differentiates Copilot Chat from Agent Mode since the former does not allow modification of content and is more suitable for analysis and exploration activities.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	That said, Agent Mode is still not a perfect replacement for App Skills. The Advanced Analysis mode, powered by App Skills that uses Python in Excel and advanced text analysis capabilities, is not available in Agent Mode or Copilot Chat yet. Microsoft is working on bringing them to these utilities.

	Towards the end of each month, Microsoft typically publishes a roundup of all the new features it introduced to some of its popular software during the past four weeks. <a automate_uuid="2c29604b-88da-4363-bdf2-fb82d942b555" href="https://www.neowin.net/news/here-are-all-the-features-microsoft-added-to-excel-in-january-2026/" rel="external nofollow">One of these software is Microsoft Excel</a>, which makes sense considering that it's heavily used in personal, education, and enterprise environments for data cleaning, crunching, analysis, and visualizations. As the month draws to a close, Microsoft has detailed all the new capabilities it introduced in Excel during the month of February 2026.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	This month's roundup is surprisingly brief, as it appears that Microsoft added just two new features to Excel during the month. The first is just about expanded availability of Agent Mode in Excel, with customers based in the European Union (EU) now able to leverage it too, if they are in the Current Channel or the Monthly Enterprise Channel. As a reminder, Agent Mode in Excel for Windows launched about a month ago. This AI-powered workflow is designed to offer an agentic experience that can do work on your behalf, as long as you offer a decent prompt as an input and possess a commercial Microsoft 365 Copilot license, or are a member of Microsoft 365 Personal, Family, or Premium plans.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	Next, Excel for Windows and Mac gained the ability to query local, "modern" Excel workbooks through Copilot Chat. Previously, this integration was limited to content stored on the cloud but the latest update now offers a consistent experience in terms of AI assistance. Microsoft also believes that this will help users become more productive as they no longer need to have their files stored in an always-connected state and can just get started right away.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	That's all there is for this month, which means that this update only excites customers actively involved in AI workflows. Others will just have to wait for the next month.

	Specifically, in this case, I'm referring to the <strong>Snap Assist flyout</strong> that appears when dragging a window to the top of the screen, and the <strong>Drag Tray flyout</strong> that automatically surfaces suggestions to share files with other apps. These features aim to enhance multitasking, but in practice, they often disrupt the natural flow that long-time users have developed over decades.

	Snap Assist itself is not the problem. The layout menu that appears when hovering over the maximize button is useful. It's deliberate. You intentionally hover, review layout options, and choose one. Keyboard shortcuts such as <strong>"Windows key + Z"</strong> are also efficient and precise. These methods feel controlled and predictable.

		</p>

		<p id="9857a1a0-98db-42fc-95bb-e3fdcc6331ce">
			The top-of-screen Snap Assist tray is different. When you drag a window toward the top edge, Windows 11 displays a flyout overlay with multiple snapping zones. While it may be helpful for new users, it introduces friction for experienced users who want to quickly maximize or reposition a window. Instead of fluid motion, you encounter an interface element that demands attention.
		</p>

		<p>

		</p>

		<p>
			Actually, I'm not the only one. For example, <a data-analytics-id="inline-link" data-hl-processed="none" data-mrf-recirculation="inline-link" data-url="https://www.reddit.com/r/Windows11/comments/1f6uj0x/how_to_disable_this_bar_that_pops_up_when_you/" href="https://www.reddit.com/r/Windows11/comments/1f6uj0x/how_to_disable_this_bar_that_pops_up_when_you/" referrerpolicy="no-referrer-when-downgrade" target="_blank" rel="external nofollow"><strong>Zermist</strong></a> in <a data-analytics-id="inline-link" data-auto-tag-linker="true" data-before-rewrite-localise="https://www.windowscentral.com/tag/reddit" data-hl-processed="none" data-mrf-recirculation="inline-link" data-url="https://www.windowscentral.com/tag/reddit" href="https://www.windowscentral.com/tag/reddit" rel="external nofollow">Reddit</a> said: <em><strong>"I'm wondering if there's any way I can remove this gray window that pops up whenever I drag a window near the top of the screen. this feature has annoyed me for months and I finally want to get rid of it for good."</strong></em>
		</p>

		<p>

		</p>

		<p>
			The Drag Tray makes it worse. As you drag files around, Windows 11 attempts to anticipate your intent and present layout suggestions. Rather than enhancing productivity, it can feel like the operating System is second-guessing you. The experience of working with files should be fast and invisible. When visual overlays repeatedly appear during simple drag actions, the experience becomes heavier than it needs to be.

				<p>
					The operating system has historically been good at giving users control without unnecessary visual interruption. The maximize button menu and keyboard shortcuts respect that philosophy. The Snap flyout at the top of the screen, in contrast, introduces assistive elements that many power users neither need nor want.

									The two additions highlighted here aren’t “bad” in the catastrophic sense — they’re bad in the <em>classic Microsoft way</em>: well‑intentioned ideas that end up cluttering the experience instead of improving it. Windows 11 doesn’t need more layers of suggestions, recommendations, and AI‑powered nudges. It needs clarity, consistency, and a <a data-analytics-id="inline-link" data-auto-tag-linker="true" data-before-rewrite-localise="https://www.windowscentral.com/tag/start-menu" data-hl-processed="none" data-mrf-recirculation="inline-link" data-url="https://www.windowscentral.com/tag/start-menu" href="https://www.windowscentral.com/tag/start-menu" rel="external nofollow">Start menu</a> that doesn’t feel like a billboard for whatever Windows thinks you should click next.
								</p>

								<p>

								</p>

								<p>
									These features aren’t deal‑breakers, but they’re symptoms of a bigger trend: Windows 11 is slowly drifting toward “busy” instead of “better.” And if Microsoft wants users to embrace the OS long‑term, it needs to focus less on novelty and more on making the core experience feel polished, predictable, and actually helpful.
								</p>

	This month's non-security update for Windows 11 versions 24H2 and 25H2 is here under KB5077241, with build numbers 26200.7922 and 26100.7922. You will find there a long list of quality-of-logs improvements, bug fixes, and some new features.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	Here is the changelog with everything that is rolling out gradually:
</p>

<p>

</p>

<ul>
	<li>
		[<strong>Emoji</strong>] <strong>New</strong>! The Emoji 16.0 release introduces a small, thoughtfully curated set of new emojis, one from each major category. These new emojis now appear in the emoji panel.
	</li>
	<li>
		[<strong>Backup &amp; Restore</strong>] <strong>New</strong>! The first sign-in restore experience is now part of Windows Backup for Organizations, bringing this restore capability to more device types. This experience restores user settings and Microsoft Store apps automatically at first sign-in on Microsoft Entra hybrid joined devices, Cloud PCs, and multi‑user environments. This capability helps create a consistent setup process during device refreshes, upgrades, or migrations.
	</li>
	<li>
		[<strong>Quick Machine Recovery</strong>] <strong>New</strong>! Quick Machine Recovery (QMR) now turns on automatically for Windows Professional devices that are not domain‑joined and not enrolled in enterprise endpoint management. These devices receive the same recovery features available to Windows Home users. For domain‑joined or enterprise-managed devices, QMR stays off unless it is enabled by the organization.
	</li>
	<li>
		[<strong>Taskbar &amp; System Tray</strong>]
		<ul>
			<li>
				<strong>New</strong>! A built‑in network speed test is now available from the taskbar. Open it from the Wi‑Fi or Cellular Quick Settings, or by right-clicking the network icon in the system tray. The speed test opens in the default browser and measures Ethernet, Wi‑Fi, and Cellular connections. This feature helps check network performance and troubleshoot issues.
			</li>
			<li>
				<strong>Improved</strong>: When your taskbar is set to uncombined, if you have an app open with many windows, they will no longer all move as a set to the overflow area when there is not enough space on the taskbar, and instead only the ones specifically within the set that don’t have space. With this change, the overflow area should no longer appear to display with lots of available space.
			</li>
		</ul>
	</li>
	<li>
		[<strong>Accounts</strong>] <strong>New</strong>! A new entry point in the account menu on the Start menu now directs you to the benefits page (https://account.microsoft.com/). This update makes it easier to explore and manage the benefits associated with your Microsoft account.
	</li>
	<li>
		[<strong>Camera Settings</strong>] <strong>New</strong>! You can now control pan and tilt for supported cameras in the Settings app. The controls appear under Settings &gt; Bluetooth &amp; devices &gt; Cameras, in the “Basic settings” section for your selected camera.
	</li>
	<li>
		[<strong>Built-in Sysmon</strong>] <strong>New</strong>! Windows now brings Sysmon functionality natively to Windows. Sysmon functionality allows you to capture system events that can help with threat detection, and you can use custom configuration files to filter the events you want to monitor. The captured events are written on the Windows event log, enabling them to be used with security applications and a wide range of use cases.
		<ul>
			<li>
				Built-in Sysmon is disabled by default and must be explicitly enabled. Go to Settings &gt; System &gt; Optional features &gt; More Windows features &gt; checking Sysmon or in PowerShell or command prompt:
			</li>
			<li>
				Dism /Online /Enable-Feature /FeatureName:Sysmon
			</li>
			<li>
				To complete the installation, from PowerShell or the command prompt, run: sysmon -i
			</li>
			<li>
				<strong>Note</strong>: If you’ve already installed Sysmon from the website, it must be uninstalled before enabling the built-in Sysmon.
			</li>
		</ul>
	</li>
	<li>
		[<strong>Widgets</strong>] <strong>New</strong>! Widget Settings now opens as a full‑page experience in the Widgets app instead of opening in a dialog.
	</li>
	<li>
		[<strong>Desktop Background</strong>] New! You can now set .webp image files as your desktop background in Settings &gt; Personalization &gt; Background, as well as when right-clicking the image in File Explorer.
	</li>
	<li>
		[<strong>Search</strong>] <strong>Improved</strong>: Updated icon for the search process in Task Manager to now show a magnifying glass.
	</li>
	<li>
		<p>
			<strong>New</strong>! Group headers now show the number of results, so you can quickly see when more results are available. Select a group header to see all results for that group and hide results from other groups.
		</p>
	</li>
	<li>
		<p>
			<strong>New</strong>! You can preview search results by hovering over a result and selecting Previewto see the content without opening it.
		</p>
	</li>
	<li>
		[<strong>Storage Settings</strong>]
		<ul>
			<li>
				<strong>Improved</strong>: Updated some of the dialogs in Storage Settings to have a more modern design.
			</li>
			<li>
				Improved the performance of scanning for temporary files.
			</li>
		</ul>
	</li>
	<li>
		<p>
			[<strong>Remote Server Administration Tools (RSAT)</strong>] New! This update adds support for Remote Server Administration Tools (RSAT) on Windows 11 Arm64 devices. IT administrators can now install and use tools such as Active Directory Domain Services and Lightweight Directory Services Tools, Active Directory Certificate Services Tools, Server Manager, Group Policy Management Tools, DNS Server Tools, and DHCP Server Tools. These tools are available as optional features and can be installed through Settings &gt; System &gt; Optional Features or from Control Panel &gt; Programs &gt; Turn Windows features on or off.
		</p>

		<p>

		</p>
	</li>
	<li>
		[<strong>Windows Update Settings</strong>] Improves the responsiveness of the settings page.
	</li>
	<li>
		[<strong>Login and lock screens</strong>] Improves the login screen reliability.
	</li>
	<li>
		[<strong>Nearby Sharing</strong>] Improves the reliability of sending larger files.
	</li>
	<li>
		[<strong>Projecting</strong>] Improves the reliability of displaying the project pane after pressing the Windows key plus P.
	</li>
	<li>
		[<strong>Printing</strong>] Improves the Windows print service (spoolsv.exe) to ensure smoother performance and prevent slowdowns during high‑volume printing.
	</li>
	<li>
		[<strong>File Explorer</strong>]
		<ul>
			<li>
				<strong>Improved</strong>: Added the extract all option to the File Explorer command bar when browsing non-ZIP archive folders.
			</li>
			<li>
				<strong>Fixed</strong>: Holding Shift and clicking the File Explorer in the taskbar, or middle clicking, might open the current instance of File Explorer rather than another instance.
			</li>
			<li>
				Improved reliability of displaying devices on the Network page of File Explorer.
			</li>
		</ul>
	</li>
	<li>
		[<strong>Display</strong>]
		<ul>
			<li>
				<strong>Improved</strong>: Made display-related performance improvements to help reduce PC resume-from-sleep time on heavily loaded systems and other scenarios.
			</li>
			<li>
				<strong>Improved</strong>: For laptops used with a docking station while the lid is closed, improved reliability of resuming from sleep when connecting to AC power, without needing to open the laptop lid.
			</li>
		</ul>
	</li>
	<li>
		[<strong>Other</strong>] Addressed a few small visual issues, including when the taskbar was set to autohide, with the Windows Security pop-up credentials fields, and with the print dialog.
	</li>
</ul>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	And here is what is rolling out to all right here and right now:
</p>

<p>

</p>

<ul>
	<li>
		[<strong>Secure Boot</strong>] With this update, Windows quality updates include additional high confidence device targeting data, increasing coverage of devices eligible to automatically receive new Secure Boot certificates. Devices receive the new certificates only after demonstrating sufficient successful update signals, maintaining a controlled and phased rollout.
	</li>
	<li>
		[<strong>BitLocker</strong>] Improved: This update improves BitLocker reliability. Your device no longer stops responding after you enter your recovery key.
	</li>
</ul>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	You can download the update in Settings &gt; Windows Update or from the Microsoft Update Catalog. Keep in mind that the update is optional and you can skip it if you want.
</p>

	By Susan Bradley
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	I’m not a superstitious person.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	But there are times — especially around printers, copiers, or other technology devices — when I jokingly say, “Shush, don’t talk about how they are working. It will jinx them.” And there are times I talk about how well the devices are working — just as they begin to misbehave.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	February patching is like that. So far, the updates’ side effects have been minimal for consumers but expected for businesses. The most reported issue has been BitLocker recovery key requests on certain PC models, such as Microsoft Surfaces and some Lenovo laptops. Even though the reports are not widespread, this reminds me to remind you to always know where your BitLocker recovery keys are saved. If random problems like this crop up, and you don’t have the keys, you’ve got a hassle on your hands.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	You may recall that recent updates began the process of rolling out fixes to Secure Boot. Businesses may want to consider disabling BitLocker on any PCs that have not yet received these updates. It can be easily <a href="https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/powershell/module/bitlocker/suspend-bitlocker?view=windowsserver2025-ps" rel="external nofollow">scripted</a> and implemented firm-wide.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	Aside from BitLocker, Secure Boot matters, and superstition, the risk level of the updates is low. I’m lowering the MS-DEFCON level to 4.
</p>

<h3>
	Consumers
</h3>

<p>
	Speaking of Secure Boot, remember that consumers can ignore a lot of the hype and headlines about your machine’s not getting the Secure Boot certificates updated. Your device will still boot. Chances are good that you already received the update. And remember: If you do not have Secure Boot enabled, you won’t be impacted.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	To see whether you have Secure Boot enabled, run <strong>msinfo32 </strong>from a command prompt or by pressing <strong>Win+R</strong>, typing <strong>msinfo32</strong>, and pressing <strong>Enter</strong>. In the <strong>System Summary</strong>, find <strong>Secure Boot State</strong> in the right pane. The value will be <strong>On </strong>(enabled), <strong>Off </strong>(Disabled), or <strong>Unsupported</strong>.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	If you still have questions after applying this month’s updates, please post in our forum section <a href="https://www.askwoody.com/forums/topic/secure-boot-certificate-updating-february-2026/" rel="external nofollow">Secure boot certificate updating – February 2026</a>.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	<img alt="MSInfo" data-ratio="77.36" decoding="async" src="https://www.askwoody.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/02/ALERT-2026-02-24-bradley-fig-01.jpg"><br>
	<em>Figure 1. Check the status of Secure Boot in the msinfo32 app.</em>
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	The biggest patching-related issue this month is not with Windows updates (which is a good thing). Instead, it’s Firefox’s ending support for <a href="https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/firefox-users-windows-7-8-and-81-moving-extended-support" rel="external nofollow">Windows 7, 8, and 8.1</a> by the end of February. As Will reported yesterday, fewer than 1.5% of our readers are using Windows 7, and almost none are using 8/8.1. Microsoft dropped support for 8.1 in 2023.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	Apple is also affected; Firefox 115 will no longer be supported on <a href="https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/firefox-users-macos-1012-1013-1014-moving-to-extended-support" rel="external nofollow">macOS 10.12, 10.13, and 10.14</a>. However, 10.14 (Mojave) fell out of Apple support in 2021, over four years ago. No other browser for macOS, including Apple’s own Safari, is still supported, and now Firefox is dropping out, too.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	Once again, I’ll repeat my advice about Web browsers: Don’t use unsupported versions, and update your browsers at every opportunity. If you must continue to use an older OS lacking supported browsers, get your hands on a modern, inexpensive alternate device (e.g., an iPad or Android tablet) and use it for browsing. Browsers are major attack vectors for the bad guys, so keeping them as modern and secure as possible is essential. Of course, be sure your browsing behavior avoids obvious pitfalls — anything that might be a trick to get you to click through.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	Some folks report that issues with stuttering and gaming speed finally got fixed in a Preview update (KB5077241) whose code contents won’t be out into the production channel for another month, but the fact that I’ve seen no issues with non-gaming machines is a good sign. As a result, I’m giving the approval to install updates this month. It’s the first time in several months that updates are solid enough to recommend installation.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	I have not yet made an official recommendation regarding updating Windows 11 to 25H2. For those of you on 24H2 and wishing to make that upgrade, it’s an easy installation with the Windows 11 enablement package. Merely download the file, click to run it, and follow the prompts. You’ll reboot and will be on Windows 11 25H2in nothing flat. This is because you already have the parts under the hood — they are just not enabled.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	Links for the enablement package are in the Microsoft Catalog: <a href="https://catalog.sf.dl.delivery.mp.microsoft.com/filestreamingservice/files/78b265e5-83a8-4e0a-9060-efbe0bac5bde/public/windows11.0-kb5054156-arm64_3d5c91aaeb08a87e0717f263ad4a61186746e465.msu" rel="external nofollow">Arm 64</a>, <a href="https://catalog.sf.dl.delivery.mp.microsoft.com/filestreamingservice/files/fa84cc49-18b2-4c26-b389-90c96e6ae0d2/public/windows11.0-kb5054156-x64_a0c1638cbcf4cf33dbe9a5bef69db374b4786974.msu" rel="external nofollow">Intel x64</a>.
</p>

<h3>
	Businesses
</h3>

<p>
	The decision to defer updates is harder for businesses, especially those with legal mandates or insurance requirements to install updates within a specified time frame. This may also be influenced by government requirements to install updates — even those with known issues.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	If your business doesn’t have the resources for detailed study of updates, I recommend waiting. Defer any updates. If I’m still warning about issues at the end of the month, and you are affected by external mandates, set up a test group to experiment with the updates on just a few PCs. This limits your exposure. You’ll see the effects and can thus decide, based on your own tests.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	When I elevate the MS-DEFCON level to one of its more severe settings, such as 2, it means the situation is unclear — the updates might or might not be okay. It’s a mixed bag. Some may see issues, and others will not. If I set MS-DEFCON to its highest level — 1 — it means the number of problems is also very high and applying updates is at its riskiest. That’s when I say, “Don’t patch.” No matter what your situation, let the fallout settle before taking the risk.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	I often base my MS-DEFCON settings on what I would recommend to my father or sister, because I have high confidence that they are not being targeted for attacks. And, of course, they are not constrained by outside requirements. Then I look at what’s happening in my business. I must dig deeper to determine whether the updates, especially security updates, are providing fixes to problems that could expose the firm to risk. I also keep in mind that sophisticated attackers try to exploit vulnerabilities in the wild and then choose big targets with potentially the highest gain — such as governments, big enterprises, or wealthy individuals. In other words, the highest return is worth the risk of being detected.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	Smaller businesses are thus less likely to be targets, and I take that into consideration when deciding upon an appropriate MS-DEFCON level.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	If your firm is like mine, phishing is the biggest threat. That’s why I often mention “patching” humans with good education and steady communication that teaches them how to recognize such threats and react properly to them. Will calls this the “two-second rule” — don’t just click something; wait two seconds to give yourself time to think. A moment’s hesitation can save the day.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	Finally, make sure you have a process in place to uninstall updates or restore systems from backups. That gives you a fighting chance to back off problematic updates.
</p>

<p>

	There are plenty of complaints about the Start menu in Windows 11, and even the redesigned variant has its fair share of discontent. However, for me, Command Palette fully replaced the Start menu, as it is easier and faster for me to find the app I need by simply typing its name instead of scrolling through pins and lists. <a automate_uuid="e4ea6719-378e-4a12-9af9-27a7d5b8e31c" href="https://www.neowin.net/news/closer-look-command-palette-in-powertoys-puts-windows-search-to-shame/" rel="external nofollow">Command Palette is a fantastic all-in-one launcher for Windows 11</a>, and one of the upcoming updates for PowerToys should make it significantly better.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	According to a Pull Request on GitHub, PowerToys 0.98 is expected to introduce Lightning-fast mode for Command Palette. The idea is, as the name suggests, to make the launcher significantly faster and visually appealing by disabling unnecessary animations, optimizing the results so that the first clickable result is selected as early as possible, fixing some under-the-hood parameters, and more.

<p>
	While Command Palette in its current form is pretty fast, you can still notice some delays, icon flashes, and jitter. The proposed Lightning-fast mode should get rid of that and make the launcher more on par with apps like Raycast, a similar tool with noticeably better performance. If you are curious to read more about the Lightning-fast mode for Command Palette, you can check its Pull Request here.

The dock is currently in development, and Microsoft wants to hear what you think about it. If waiting is not an option, you can get a similar experience with tools like <a automate_uuid="b3b2ef8e-1391-4c5f-9727-1d50aa5a776c" href="https://apps.microsoft.com/detail/9PG6CJPXTPZ0" rel="external nofollow">WindowSill </a>or <a automate_uuid="65dfad7a-293e-4907-8760-c0ef5019b8a2" href="https://apps.microsoft.com/detail/9NV7F7JGLRPL" rel="external nofollow">Clipshelf</a>.

	Microsoft is investigating a known issue that causes the mouse pointer to disappear in the classic Outlook desktop email client for some users.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	This bug has been acknowledged almost two months after the first reports started surfacing online, with users saying that Outlook became unusable after the mouse pointer vanished while using the app.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	"My mouse just stopped being visible while I am using Outlook, and this is very, very, frustrating because my permission wasn't given to make these changes, and now I can't find anything, can't open emails, can't copy and paste, and the list goes on and on," <a href="https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/answers/questions/5646909/why-does-my-mouse-arrow-disappear-while-using-outl" rel="external nofollow" target="_blank">one customer noted</a>.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	Microsoft explained in a <a href="http://support.microsoft.com/en-us/office/mouse-pointer-disappears-when-hovering-over-classic-outlook-576003d8-1be6-4639-a8e7-8c688086c1b9" rel="external nofollow" target="_blank">recent support document</a> that the mouse pointer (and in some cases the cursor) will suddenly vanish as users move it across Outlook's interface, and noted that this bug also affects some users of other Microsoft 365 apps.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	"When using classic Outlook, you may find that the mouse pointer or mouse cursor disappears as you move the pointer over the Outlook interface," it said. "Although the mouse pointer is not there, the email in the message list will change color as you hover over it. This issue has also been reported with OneNote and other Microsoft 365 apps to a lesser degree."
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	Microsoft added that the Outlook team is investigating the issues and will provide updates as more information becomes available. In the meantime, Microsoft is asking affected users to have their Microsoft 365 administrator open a support case with the Outlook Support Team and submit diagnostic log files to assist with analysis.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	While a timeline for a permanent fix is not yet available, Microsoft has offered three temporary workarounds that require affected users to click an email in the message list when the cursor disappears, which may cause it to reappear.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	Alternatively, switching to PowerPoint, clicking into an editable area, and then returning to Outlook may also restore the mouse pointer. If neither of them works, Microsoft said that restarting the computer should resolve the issue temporarily.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	Last month, Microsoft fixed another classic Outlook issue that <a href="https://www.bleepingcomputer.com/news/microsoft/microsoft-fixes-outlook-bug-blocking-access-to-encrypted-emails/" rel="external nofollow" target="_blank">prevented Microsoft 365 customers from opening encrypted emails</a> after installing the December 2025 updates.

	Microsoft announced the long-awaited update for Planner. The new update is rolling out to users of basic plans in both Planner in Teams and Planner for the web. It refreshes the interface, introduces some new features, and sets the tone for Microsoft to integrate more things in the future.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	One of the biggest additions is task chat, which replaces the old task comments interface with real-time discussions. Users can now chat about their projects, all with mentions, emojis, rich text formatting, and notifications. The chat feature is available to all users on Basic plans.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	Another new feature is the Goals view. This one will, you guessed it, allow you to set objectives by connecting tasks to shared goals. In the Goals interface, you can assign specific tasks to it, set due dates, and change goals status. Goals view is available to users on Basic plans who also have a Planner premium license or Microsoft 365 Copilot subscription, so it’s not free for everyone.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	Planner now looks like a modern app, thanks to the design refresh. The interface now looks cleaner than ever before, with significantly less visual clutter. Microsoft also promises faster performance.
</p>

<p>
	As<a automate_uuid="e8854186-02df-4505-b23d-022310d548df" href="https://www.neowin.net/news/microsoft-planner-major-overhaul-begins-rolling-out-to-users-cuts-icalendar-feeds/" rel="external nofollow"> initially reported</a>, the new Planner update also removes some legacy features. For starters, iCalendar feeds are going away, which means your Planner tasks will no longer sync with Outlook, Google Calendar, or Apple Calendar. Additionally, the introduction of the chat feature also redesigns the comment system. Old comments are not visible on task cards anymore, and if you want to see them, you have to click a link that opens a separate Outlook page for the group mailbox.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	The rollout is starting now and should reach all basic users over the coming weeks. Microsoft says this update prepares Planner for future updates, which will include the Project Manager agent, the AI assistant for Planner, currently in Public Preview. So, just <a automate_uuid="1c276c45-d52a-4067-8cce-ce6b66074287" href="https://www.neowin.net/news/microslop-memes-aside-microsoft-says-copilot-is-booming-but-theres-a-catch/" rel="external nofollow">like it does with every other service</a>, Microsoft will also integrate more AI features into Planner.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	You can check the full details about the new Planner update and Microsoft’s plans for the future of this service on <a automate_uuid="9eac3d43-f991-4829-9528-ff89b5d8b0b2" href="https://techcommunity.microsoft.com/blog/plannerblog/introducing-a-refreshed-design-task-chat-and-more-in-microsoft-planner/4495440" rel="external nofollow">the Planner Blog</a>.

<p>
	<strong>Update:</strong> Just minutes after publishing the article, we've come across the first complaints about the update. Namely, a few<a automate_uuid="dd4007ae-32bb-4be9-a166-9c64e7c0bdf0" href="https://techcommunity.microsoft.com/discussions/planner/power-automate-and-new-checklist-character-limit/4496559#M9244" rel="external nofollow"> users of the Tech Community forums have pointed out</a> that Planner now imposes a strict limit of just 36 characters on checklist items, down from 100, which was the previous limit:
</p>

<p>

</p>

<blockquote class="QuoteNewsStyle">
	<p>
		Hello, I've noticed significant issues following today's visual layout changes in Planner (rolled out around Feb 20, 2026). While the new UI looks refreshed, it seems to have introduced a stricter character limit on checklist items (subtasks) when using Power Automate, breaking existing flows.
	</p>

	<p>

	</p>

	<p>
		Key details:
	</p>

	<p>

	</p>

	<ul>
		<li>
			Manual entry still works fine: I can create checklist items up to 100+ characters directly in the Planner UI without issues.
		</li>
		<li>
			Power Automate flows now fail: Any checklist item exceeding 36 characters triggers an error in the "Add a checklist item" or similar Planner connector actions. Previously, the limit was reliably 100 characters.
		</li>
		<li>
			Impact: This renders automations unusable for detailed subtasks, forcing manual workarounds or truncation - which defeats the purpose of automation.
		</li>
	</ul>
</blockquote>

<p>
	We still don't know if this is just a glitch that was shipped with the new update, or if the new limit on checklist items characters is intentional. We'll update the article with a potential workaround or further details once we know more.
