		We are beginning to roll out a change to the way Task Manager calculates CPU utilization for the Processes, Performance, and Users pages. Task Manager will now use the standard metrics to display CPU workload consistently across all pages and aligning with industry standards and third-party tools. For backward compatibility, a new optional column called CPU Utility is available (hidden by default) on the Details tab showing the previous CPU value used on the Processes page.

	Telegram is back with a freshly baked set of updates for creators and general users on its instant messaging app. These new features give them more control over privacy and better monetization options while the company gears up for its spring updates.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	If you regularly exchange videos via Telegram, you can cast them to a Chromecast-enabled device without leaving the app and watch them on a big screen. <a href="https://telegram.org/blog/star-messages-gateway-2-0-and-more" rel="external nofollow">Telegram said</a> the feature is currently available on Android devices where you can choose the playback speed and quality or play the video on a loop.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	Those who get a truckload of messages daily can use Star Messages to filter out unwanted chats from their inbox. They can set a fee for messages from people not on their contact list. This fee is not paid in direct cash but in Stars, a virtual currency on Telegram used to purchase digital goods.
</p>

<figure class="image image--expandable">
	<img alt="Telegram Star Messages" class="ipsImage" height="720" width="720" src="https://cdn.neowin.com/news/images/uploaded/2025/03/1741370024_telegram_star_messages.jpg">
</figure>

<p>
	In other words, Star Messages allows users to have peace of mind while making some extra bucks on the side. The feature requires a <a href="https://www.neowin.net/news/telegram-launches-premium-subscription-for-499-per-month/" rel="external nofollow">Telegram Premium subscription</a> and is compatible with groups and channel discussions.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	Users can choose how many Stars they want to charge per message using a slider. They get 85% of the selected fee while the rest goes to Telegram. However, users can allow certain people to message them without a fee or make an instant refund of the amount after a message is sent.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	Speaking of unknown users, Telegram now shows a detailed info page for such senders to spot scams and dodge impersonators. The info screen can have various information, including their country, any shared groups in common, whether it's an official account, when they joined Telegram, and when they last updated their user name or profile picture.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<figure class="image image--expandable">
	<img alt="Telegram Info Card for unknown contacts" class="ipsImage" height="720" width="720" src="https://cdn.neowin.com/news/images/uploaded/2025/03/1741370018_telegram_info_cards.jpg">
</figure>

<p>
	The Stars earned from new senders or elsewhere can now be used to buy a Telegram Premium subscription or gift it to others. Users and groups can also withdraw these stars via Fragment and convert them into rewards to purchase collectibles on the TON blockchain, Telegram Ads, and more.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	Businesses can already use Telegram's infrastructure to verify their customer's phone numbers instead of relying on traditional SMS. The company notes its Verification Platform is about nine times cheaper than other services. While SMS can cost about $0.50/message, Telegram only charges $0.01/message.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	Its updated Verification Platform now allows developers to cut unnecessary costs. They can set a maximum delivery time for a code; if it's not delivered within that time, the amount is automatically refunded.
</p>

	Back in June of 2024, Neowin was alerted of a OneDrive bug by one of our readers, TReKiE, about a strange OneDrive-related problem where <a href="https://www.neowin.net/news/onedrive-shared-folders-on-windows-11-suddenly-became-internet-shortcuts-like-some-virus/" rel="external nofollow">shared folders were found turning into internet shortcut links</a>.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	TReKiE, in their news tip, had expressed their annoyance, as well as that of some of the others who were also affected by the problem. They said:
</p>

<p>

</p>

<blockquote class="QuoteNewsStyle">
	<p>
		Earlier this week I was alerted to an issue affecting a user using OneDrive where shared folders within their account in Windows turned into internet shortcuts (.url files).<br>
		<br>
		When working normally, the user would be able to open the folder and be able to access the files within (as you would normally in Explorer), but for the past week, the only way to access the files within these shared folders is to use a web browser and manually download or go through hoops to open with the Office apps. This has broken entire environments where most users have never even used the web UI before, never mind downloading files manually or trying to sync them in with the desktop office applications.<br>
		<br>
		I know quite a few unhappy users who are ready to jump ship from OneDrive over this and Microsoft's total silence over the issue does not help.
	</p>
</blockquote>

<p>
	Following our report, the next month, we had an update on the situation that Microsoft had been aware of the issue and was working on it. It apparently had something to do with "<a href="https://www.neowin.net/news/microsoft-confirms-onedrive-shared-folders-are-indeed-turning-into-internet-shortcuts/" rel="external nofollow">internal error affecting data synchronization</a>."
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	It has nearly been ten months with no fix in sight still for the issue. However, Microsoft finally has another update on it thanks to a response from the Microsoft OneDrive product group, and it is supposedly due to a backend migration issue that the tech giant is currently still performing.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	However, it does not give any specific clue as to when this migration phase will be completed, though Microsoft is trying to "speed things up": The message reads:
</p>

<p>

</p>

<blockquote class="QuoteNewsStyle">
	<p>
		This is related to a backend migration we are currently doing. Unfortunately, we do not fully support syncing shared folders<span> </span>when one user<span> </span>has migrated and the other<span> </span>has not<span> </span>. We are doing everything possible to speed things up so that the issue can be resolved as quickly as possible for users of the feature. When the accounts are migrated, there is an automatic logic that ensures that they return to a synced folder within a few days.
	</p>
</blockquote>

<p>
	Please keep in mind that the above response was originally in German and has been Google-translated into English. The response was obtained by a reader on the German media outlet Dr Windows' forum.

	Recently, Google completed the removal of Manifest V2-based extensions in Google Chrome, causing plenty of extensions to stop working and generating a tidal wave of frustrated customers. While the change affects all extensions that have not been upgraded to Manifest V3, the biggest noise is generated among uBlock Origin users, a popular content-blocking extension for modern browsers.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	The good news is that despite the change, it is still possible to make uBlock Origin and other MV2 extensions work in Chrome. They not only work but they can also be downloaded from the Chrome Web Store. All you need is a few simple tricks. Here is how to restore uBlock Origin in Chrome.
</p>

<h3>
	Enable uBlock Origin in Chrome:
</h3>

<ol>
	<li>
		Go to <strong>chrome://extensions</strong> and find <strong>uBlock Origin</strong> in the list of installed extensions.
	</li>
	<li>
		There you will see a message stating that the extension was turned off because it is no longer supported.
	</li>
	<li>
		In the bottom-right corner of the extension card, there is a small grayed-out toggle. Click it to turn on uBlock Origin in Chrome.
		<figure class="image image--expandable">
			<img alt="How to install uBlock Origin in Chrome" class="ipsImage" height="405" width="720" src="https://cdn.neowin.com/news/images/uploaded/2025/03/1741346383_5.jpg">
		</figure>
	</li>
	<li>
		Chrome will warn you not to enable extensions. Dismiss the warning.
		<figure class="image image--expandable">
			<img alt="How to install uBlock Origin in Chrome" class="ipsImage" height="345" width="720" src="https://cdn.neowin.com/news/images/uploaded/2025/03/1741346389_6.jpg">
		</figure>
	</li>
</ol>

<p>
	Note that you can do the same in Edge. <a href="https://www.neowin.net/news/microsoft-begins-turning-off-ublock-origin-and-other-extensions-in-edge/" rel="external nofollow">Microsoft's browser still lets you turn on the extension</a>, even though MV2-based extensions are on their way out in Microsoft Edge as well.
</p>

<h3>
	Download and install uBlock Origin in Chrome:
</h3>

<p>
	This section is for those who do not have uBlock Origin installed. It also applies to other MV2-based extensions that Chrome no longer allows installing. Method 1:
</p>

<p>

</p>

<ol>
	<li>
		Launch Chrome and click <a href="https://chromewebstore.google.com/detail/ublock-origin/cjpalhdlnbpafiamejdnhcphjbkeiagm?hl=en" rel="external nofollow">this link to the Chrome Web Store</a>.
	</li>
	<li>
		Find the "<strong>Add to Chrome</strong>" button—it should be inaccessible and grayed out.
		<figure class="image image--expandable">
			<img alt="How to install uBlock Origin in Chrome" class="ipsImage" height="405" width="720" src="https://cdn.neowin.com/news/images/uploaded/2025/03/1741346356_1.jpg">
		</figure>
	</li>
	<li>
		Right-click the button and select "<strong>Inspect</strong>."
	</li>
	<li>
		Chrome will open its developer tools on the "<strong>Elements</strong>" tab with <strong>div class="VfPpkd-dg12Hf-ppH1rf-sM5MNb"</strong> highlighted. Click a small arrow to the left of it to expand the section.
		<figure class="image image--expandable">
			<img alt="How to install uBlock Origin in Chrome" class="ipsImage" height="405" width="720" src="https://cdn.neowin.com/news/images/uploaded/2025/03/1741346363_2.jpg">
		</figure>
	</li>
	<li>
		At the end of the <strong>button class</strong> section, find "<strong>disabled</strong>" and click it.
	</li>
	<li>
		Change "<strong>disabled</strong>" to "<strong>enabled</strong>," and Chrome will turn the "<strong>Add to Chrome</strong>" button back on.
		<figure class="image image--expandable">
			<img alt="How to install uBlock Origin in Chrome" class="ipsImage" height="405" width="720" src="https://cdn.neowin.com/news/images/uploaded/2025/03/1741346369_3.jpg">
		</figure>
	</li>
	<li>
		Click the button to download and install uBlock Origin in Google Chrome.
	</li>
</ol>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	Note that Chrome will turn off uBlock Origin the next time you launch the browser. When this happens, go to extensions and turn it back on, as described in the previous section of this guide.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	Method 2 is a bit more complicated as it requires manual installation. It is better suited for power users who want more control over their extensions or keep a certain release without updating to newer versions:
</p>

<p>

</p>

<ol>
	<li>
		Go to the extension's <a href="https://github.com/gorhill/uBlock/releases" rel="external nofollow">official GitHub repository</a> and download the latest extension release for Chromium. You can also download one of the previous versions if necessary.
	</li>
	<li>
		Extract the downloaded archive wherever it is convenient.
	</li>
	<li>
		Launch Chrome and go to <strong>chrome://extensions</strong>.
	</li>
	<li>
		Toggle on <strong>Developer mode</strong>.
		<figure class="image image--expandable">
			<img alt="How to install uBlock Origin in Chrome" class="ipsImage" height="469" width="720" src="https://cdn.neowin.com/news/images/uploaded/2025/03/1741346395_7.jpg">
		</figure>
	</li>
	<li>
		Click "<strong>Load unpacked</strong>."
	</li>
	<li>
		Find the folder with the extracted uBlock Origin files and click "<strong>Select folder</strong>."
		<figure class="image image--expandable">
			<img alt="How to install uBlock Origin in Chrome" class="ipsImage" height="509" width="720" src="https://cdn.neowin.com/news/images/uploaded/2025/03/1741346401_8.jpg">
		</figure>
	</li>
	<li>
		uBlock Origin will show up in the list of all extensions. Note that there will be an "Errors" button because the extension is Manifest V2-based, which is now deprecated.
		<figure class="image image--expandable">
			<img alt="How to install uBlock Origin in Chrome" class="ipsImage" height="469" width="720" src="https://cdn.neowin.com/news/images/uploaded/2025/03/1741346407_9.jpg">
		</figure>
	</li>
</ol>

<p>
	Keep in mind that all those measures are only temporary. While there is no exact information on when exactly MV2 extensions will stop working with no way to bring them back, it will happen sooner or later. In such a case, switching to Firefox (it does not plan to ditch MV2-based extensions) or MV3 extensions like <a href="https://chromewebstore.google.com/detail/ublock-origin-lite/ddkjiahejlhfcafbddmgiahcphecmpfh?hl=en" rel="external nofollow">uBlock Origin Lite</a> might be a better option.
</p>

	People have been opting for the dark mode across their operating systems and on websites for years now. It’s kind of cultish, really, with its die-hard advocates. I kind of like dark mode, but one thing that I found problematic is that many sites use bright colors. So, while you might be enjoying your dark mode tranquility, the next second, you open a website and get blinded by all the bright colors.

</p>

<p>
	Thankfully, Google Chrome has a hidden option to force all websites you visit to use dark mode. It can cause a few visibility issues, but, for the most part, it works very well. All you have to do is enable a Chrome flag and restart your browser.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	Some of you will have used <a href="https://chromewebstore.google.com/detail/dark-reader/eimadpbcbfnmbkopoojfekhnkhdbieeh?hl=en" rel="external nofollow">the Dark Reader extension</a>, which is great but doesn’t work on Chrome for Android because Google doesn’t allow extensions there (Edge for mobile supports certain extensions). With the flag technique, however, you can enable dark mode on all the mobile websites you visit in Chrome for Android, too.
</p>

<p>

</p>

</figure>

<ol>
	<li>
		To get started, go to the URL bar in Chrome on your desktop or mobile device, type <a href="http://chrome://flags/" rel="external nofollow">chrome://flags/</a>, and hit enter.
	</li>
	<li>
		Next, in the <strong>Search flags</strong> field, type ‘<strong>dark</strong>,’ and you will see <strong>Auto Dark Mode for Web Contents</strong> – this should be available on Windows, Mac, Linux, ChromeOS, and Android, but not iOS.
	</li>
	<li>
		Click the associated drop down that says <strong>Default</strong> and choose <strong>Enabled</strong>, you will then be prompted to restart your browser. Upon restart, go to a website that doesn’t have a dark mode. If it’s enabled properly, this website should have a dark theme.
	</li>
</ol>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	As stated at the beginning of the guide, this is a bit of a hack on Google’s side, so not all websites will adjust perfectly. For most websites, though, you shouldn’t have any issues. If you find deal-breaking changes, you can go back to the Chrome flags and change the drop-down back to <strong>Default</strong> to undo the change or select another variant of the flag.
</p>

	Last year, we reported that Microsoft was <a href="https://www.neowin.net/news/microsoft-will-end-publisher-support-and-remove-it-from-microsoft-365-in-october-2026/" rel="external nofollow">killing Publisher in October 2026</a>. At the time, Microsoft claimed that this move was to "focus on new benefits" and "provide customers with the tools they need to achieve what matters."
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	Microsoft Publisher is a 35-year-old program (yes, 35), first released in 1991 as part of the Microsoft Office suite. It offers users tools to create various publications such as brochures, newsletters, and business cards.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	The program is not as popular as its star siblings (Word, PowerPoint, and Excel), and it seems Microsoft is not really interested in it, leading some Microsoft Most Valuable Professionals <a href="https://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/msoffice/forum/all/is-publisher-now-officially-an-unwanted-step-child/e9ee86bd-c7f3-4b66-9999-107e8fc8324f" rel="external nofollow">to call it an "unwanted step-child"</a> in the Office family due to the lack of dedicated support channels for users.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	In our last report on this, Microsoft said it would share more as it looked into new ways to handle common Publisher tasks in Word, PowerPoint, and Designer. That has now been fulfilled, as Microsoft has <a href="https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/office/microsoft-publisher-will-no-longer-be-supported-after-october-2026-ee6302a2-4bc7-4841-babf-8e9be3acbfd7" rel="external nofollow">updated</a> the <a href="https://archive.ph/dvp6J" rel="external nofollow">original support article</a>.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	The previous "What you need to do to prepare" section of the article used to have the following message:
</p>

<p>

</p>

<blockquote class="QuoteNewsStyle">
	<p>
		No action is required. This information is to allow you sufficient time to plan, and we will share additional updates as the date approaches.
	</p>
</blockquote>

<p>
	Now, the section has been replaced with a "How to prepare before October 2026" section that begins by advising users to convert their .pub files to another format, as after October 2026, they won't be able to access or edit these files in the non-Perpetual version of Publisher.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	The company recommends that you convert your Publisher files to PDF using the following steps:
</p>

<p>

</p>

<blockquote class="QuoteNewsStyle">
	<ol>
		<li>
			Open the Publisher file.
		</li>
		<li>
			Go to File &gt; Save As.
		</li>
		<li>
			Choose a location to save the file.
		</li>
		<li>
			Select <strong>PDF</strong> as the file type and click <strong>Save</strong>.
		</li>
	</ol>
</blockquote>

<p>
	If you have many files to convert, you can use a macro or one of the many online services that can handle the conversion for you. If you want to <em>edit</em> those files after October 2026, you'll need to convert them to PDF first, then convert them to Word:
</p>

<p>

</p>

<blockquote class="QuoteNewsStyle">
	<ol>
		<li>
			Open Word.
		</li>
		<li>
			Go to File &gt; Open.
		</li>
		<li>
			Locate and open the PDF file.
		</li>
		<li>
			Select OK in the dialog box.
		</li>
	</ol>

	<p style="margin-left:40px">
		Your document will open as a Word file.
	</p>

	<p>

	</p>

	<p style="margin-left:40px">
		<strong>Note</strong>: The converted Word document will be optimized for text editing. As a result, its layout may vary from the original PDF, particularly if the document includes many graphics.
	</p>
</blockquote>

<p>
	The promised "Recommended alternatives to Microsoft Publisher" section contains this table:
</p>

<p>

</p>

<table border="1px solid black;">
	<thead>
		<tr>
			<th>
				<strong>I want to create...</strong>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	Microsoft still maintains that Publisher will be removed from Microsoft 365 next year. This comes after the company recently <a href="https://www.neowin.net/news/microsoft-officially-confirms-skype-is-shutting-down/" rel="external nofollow">confirmed reports</a> that Skype was going away after users dug into the app's code and <a href="https://www.neowin.net/news/microsoft-will-finally-pull-the-plug-on-skype-in-may-encourages-users-to-switch-to-teams/" rel="external nofollow">discovered a hidden message</a> notifying users of the app's shutdown in May this year.

	In recent days, <a href="https://www.neowin.net/news/firefox-136-is-out-with-vertical-tabs-updated-sidebar-and-a-lot-more/" rel="external nofollow">Mozilla</a> and The Tor Project released their respective web browsers which meant that Tails wouldn’t be far behind with an operating system update. The project has delivered today with the availability of Tails 6.13 which brings an updated Tor Browser and a better Wi-Fi error experience, making the operating system more user friendly.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	The Tor Browser has been updated to version 14.0.7, which was released on March 4. It’s based on Firefox 128.0.8esr and has backport security fixes from the latest Firefox 136. The Tor client was also updated to 0.4.8.14.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	With each release of Tails, we typically see improvements to the operating system too, and this release is no exception. With Tails 6.13, the Tor Connection assistant shows a new error message when Wi-Fi hardware isn’t detected.
</p>

<p>

</figure>

<p>
	The developers pointed out that Wi-Fi issues are unfortunately quite common with Tails and Linux, so by adding this more-friendly error screen, new users should have a better experience.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	Users are given a few tips to try out if no Wi-Fi hardware is detected. Its recommendations include using a wired connection, tethering via a mobile phone, or buying a USB Wi-Fi adapter that is compatible with Tails.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	For those that don’t know, Tails is an operating system that aims to keep users anonymous. Automatic updates to Tails 6.13 are available from Tails 6.0 and above. It’s highly recommended to update as soon as possible to avoid using insecure software.

	By Susan Bradley
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	As usual, I recommend caution just before Microsoft’s Patch Tuesday and thus have raised the MS-DEFCON level to 2.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	Let others (aka me) take the slings and arrows. There’s simply no way that those interested in headlines just as clickbait can assess the implications of any Patch Tuesday in just a few hours. I do some testing on my assorted PCs, follow other experts closely, separate fact from fiction, and aggregate what I learn into a Patch Watch column you can trust.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	And so, relax and use your favorite method to forestall updates.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	It’s eight months and counting until the end of support for Windows 10. Just the other day, I was asking someone in the office if they wanted me to get extended support updates for their home computer. The reply: “Oh, I don’t need support. I never call Microsoft.” Well, hardly anyone calls Microsoft, other than big corporations that can afford the long-term support contracts. The end of Win10 support doesn’t mean you will lose out on the ability to call Microsoft — it just means that your PC won’t get security updates.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	Consumers may feel comfortable without such updates, especially if they are using a browser such as Firefox and using its updates to provide at least Web security. Firefox and other browsers will continue to be available for Windows 10 for some time, well past it’s official expiration.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	However, business is a different matter — because of the need to follow regulations and guidelines specific to the line of business.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	I’m in the process of investigating all available options we have for obtaining ESU updates. I’ve made preliminary contact with a volume-licensing vendor and will keep you posted.
</p>

<h3>
	Consumers
</h3>

<p>
	I hate “springing forward.” It’s not because I hate daylight saving time per se. I know it means more sunlight throughout the full active day. My problem is sleep deprivation. I know farmers follow the sunlight, but it means that we — and our computers — must adjust.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	If the promised legislative end to daylight saving time occurs, it will result in updates to every supported operating system.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	If you are my age, you will remember when daylight saving was paused to help with the energy crisis in December 1973. Mind you, I wasn’t using a computer back then. I just remember going to school when it was dark in the morning. In 1986, we started observing seven months of daylight saving and in 2007 we saw eight month’s worth. Each time there is a daylight saving adjustment, computers that automatically adjust the date and time must be updated with new rules. So if we do change again, Windows, all the Apple OSes, Android, and Linux will need updates.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	Consumers may see preview updates in the form of Windows 10 <a href="https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/topic/february-25-2025-kb5052077-os-build-19045-5555-preview-4ec11d48-1649-4549-846d-b3197a7becda" rel="external nofollow">KB5052077</a> and Windows 11 <a href="https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/topic/february-25-2025-kb5052093-os-build-26100-3323-preview-053856ea-f984-4bdb-866c-5f356f5a451b" rel="external nofollow">KB5052093</a>. Both offer up a variety of nonsecurity changes and fixes. I do not recommend installing preview updates; instead, I review for highlights of things to come in the March security update.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	Windows 10 will get a fix for an issue where Desktop Window Manager (dwm.exe) stops responding many times. Windows 11 preview includes a fix for an issue whereby apps might not recognize a scanner is available when it is connected.
</p>

<h3>
	Businesses
</h3>

<p>
	Speaking of clocks, if you also have a hybrid setup that bridges Active Directory with Entra ID, I recommend that you standardize on UTC time. If you have any sort of breach or investigation, it will help to have all on-premises logging and cloud logging using the same time zone.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	I am still tracking issues related to <a href="https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/office/add-and-sync-shared-folders-to-onedrive-for-home-8a63cd47-1526-4cd8-bd09-ee3f9bfc1504#bkmk_shortcuts" rel="external nofollow">OneDrive shared folder shortcuts</a> showing up as Internet shortcuts. This is not related to a Windows update but appears to be some backend change that Microsoft has made. Disturbing, to say the least.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	Also be aware that <a href="https://www.askwoody.com/forums/topic/autocad-2022-might-not-open-after-updating-to-windows-11-version-24h2/" rel="external nofollow">AutoCAD 2022</a> might not open after updating to Windows 11 24H2.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	Let me kindly remind you that if you got pushed, shoved, or downright bullied to install 24H2, you have only 10 days to roll back to 23H2. To uninstall Windows 11 24H2 and go back to Windows 11 23H2, head to Settings and visit System | Recovery. Click on the Go back option and follow the on-screen instructions to revert and remove the 24H2 update from your PC. “Go back” may be grayed, which means you’re outside the 10-day grace period.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	Plus member Simon Weel <a href="https://www.askwoody.com/forums/topic/unvoluntary-update-to-windows-11-24h2/" rel="external nofollow">reports</a> that he had several domain-based computers that were spontaneously updated to 24H2. I will be the first to tell you that I have never seen systems get updated if they have group policy settings to keep the feature release at a certain version, regardless of their being in a domain-based or peer environment. But I do know that the settings Microsoft uses to control updates via group policy have changed so many times over the years that it’s possible the group policy settings were not right. Microsoft respects group policy settings when it comes to updates. But it makes it increasingly hard to debug why a machine isn’t respecting the settings.

<p>
	Microsoft's PowerToys has a new toy for power users to play with. The latest update to the app adds media transcoding support through Advanced Paste.

	The addition makes it possible to convert video and audio file formats when pasting content. The feature also supports stripping audio away from a video file, which can be quite useful.

The tech giant has notified that it will soon begin prompting "eligible" users about backing up their Microsoft 365 app files, mainly Excel, Word, and PowerPoint, to OneDrive.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	The message also adds details about when the preview starts and when the move hits general availability. From the looks of it, it does not appear to be too far away as the public preview is set for "mid-March 2025" which means Microsoft will likely start prompting such users next week onwards.
</p>

<p>
	It says:
</p>

<p>

</p>

<blockquote class="QuoteNewsStyle">
	<p>
		Eligible users will be prompted in the Message Bar below the toolbar in Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel, and Microsoft PowerPoint for Windows desktops to enroll in OneDrive Known Folder Move (KFM). Users will be able to select the folders to back up in Microsoft OneDrive.
	</p>

	<p>

	</p>

	<p>
		<strong>When this will happen:</strong>
	</p>

	<p>

	</p>

	<p>
		Public Preview: We will begin rolling out mid-March 2025 and expect to complete by early April 2025.
	</p>

	<p>

	</p>

	<p>
		General Availability (Worldwide): We will begin rolling out early April 2025 and expect to complete by early May 2025.
	</p>

	<p>

	</p>

	<p>
		....
	</p>

	<p>

	</p>

	<p>
		<strong>No action required</strong>. The feature will be enabled automatically for eligible users. If KFM is blocked in your organization, the message will not be displayed.
	</p>

	<p>

	</p>

	<p>
		If an organization has blocked KFM, we will honor that and not display the message to the organization's users.
	</p>
</blockquote>

<p>
	Microsoft, in its documentation, had already explained the advantages of OneDrive known folder move (KFM). It says:
</p>

<p>

</p>

<blockquote class="QuoteNewsStyle">
	<p>
		There are two primary advantages of moving or redirecting Windows known folders (Desktop, Documents, Pictures, Screenshots, and Camera Roll) to Microsoft OneDrive for the users in your domain:
	</p>

	<p>

	</p>

	<ul>
		<li>
			Your users can continue using the folders they're familiar with. They don't have to change their daily work habits to save files to OneDrive.
		</li>
		<li>
			Saving files to OneDrive backs up your users' data in the cloud and gives them access to their files from any device.
		</li>
	</ul>

	<p>

	</p>

	<p>
		For these reasons, we recommend moving (redirecting) known folders to OneDrive if you're an enterprise or large organization.
	</p>
</blockquote>

<p>
	However, in the new M365 message, the company has added some more points as to how KFM can help users. First and foremost, Microsoft has pointed out Copilot support. Aside from that, it has also mentioned easy collaboration, easy access remotely, as well as additional security and protection from data loss. It says:
</p>

<p>

</p>

<blockquote class="QuoteNewsStyle">
	<p>
		When users are enrolled in KFM, the files in their enrolled folder benefit from the advantages of cloud files:
	</p>

	<p>

	</p>

	<ul>
		<li>
			Copilot support: Files are Copilot-enabled, making it simple and intuitive to access and leverage Copilot.
		</li>
		<li>
			Easy collaboration: Cloud files enable sharing, commenting, and easy collaboration, with AutoSave ensuring changes are frequently and consistently saved.
		</li>
		<li>
			Access from anywhere: Cloud files can be accessed from Windows, Mac, the web, iOS, and Android with synchronized changes.
		</li>
		<li>
			Increased security and compliance: Enterprises can increase security and compliance, because all cloud files are subject to default classification, labeling, and protection (CLP) policies and auto-labeling.
		</li>
		<li>
			Backup: Protection from data loss due to device failure.
		</li>
		<li>
			Access to cloud-specific features like AutoSave and Version History
		</li>
		<li>
			After enrolling, users can access their files in the known folders in File Explorer or OneDrive.
		</li>
	</ul>
</blockquote>

<p>
	If you have access, you can find the message on the M365 message center under message ID "MC1024398".

	One of the most unpleasant things about using a Windows PC can be the annoyance you feel if an update is quietly downloaded and begins installing when you are not expecting it.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	Thankfully, though Microsoft understands it too and has done so for a very long time, which is why the company debuted the "active hours" feature back in 2016 with the <a href="https://www.neowin.net/reviews/windows-10-anniversary-update-review-pc-edition/" rel="external nofollow">Windows 10 Anniversary Update</a> which lets users pause the update. Over time the feature has been refined and improved, and in the 2019 May update, <a href="https://www.neowin.net/news/the-windows-10-may-2019-update-is-coming---heres-whats-new/" rel="external nofollow">intelligent active hours</a> was introduced.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	Recently, the company published a support article on its website to serve as a reminder about the feature. Microsoft has explained how the active hours feature works and how it can be useful to you whether you are on Windows 11 or Windows 10. It writes:
</p>

<p>

</p>

<blockquote class="QuoteNewsStyle">
	<p>
		We've made it easier to keep Windows current with the latest features and improvements—and with fewer interruptions and restarts when you're using your PC the most.
	</p>

	<p>

	</p>

	<p>
		The great news is that you don’t have to do anything to get the latest updates, as they'll automatically download and install when they’re available (unless you’re on a metered connection, then updates won’t download until you get them).
	</p>

	<p>

	</p>

	<p>
		Occasionally, your PC might need to restart to finish installing the updates. You can set active hours to let us know when you're usually using your PC to help prevent inconvenient restarts.
	</p>
</blockquote>

<p>
	Following this, the company has also shared two separate step-by-step guides on how to have Windows set up active hours for your PC automatically based on device activity, and also the way to set it up manually. You can find the support document <a href="https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/keep-your-pc-up-to-date-with-active-hours-de79813c-7919-5fed-080f-0871c7bd9bde" rel="external nofollow">here</a> on Microsoft's website.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	In the past, Microsoft had also shared <a href="https://www.neowin.net/news/microsoft-shares-useful-group-policy-guide-to-make-the-best-out-of-windows-updates/" rel="external nofollow">Group Policy edits</a> for managing Windows Update active hours. <a href="https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/deployment/update/waas-restart#configure-active-hours-through-the-windows-registry" rel="external nofollow">Registry tweaking</a> exists too.

	Microsoft has finally released a detailed guide on how to fix the "0x80131500" error on its Store. The company has updated one of the support pages on its official website to add this new entry. Neowin noticed this new page while browsing.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	Upon coming across this, we wondered if this was a recent bug that was affecting the Microsoft Store. However, a quick Google search reveals that people have been encountering this issue for a while with complaints going all the way back to 2019. That was six years ago and pre-dates the release of Windows 11 by two years as the OS became <a href="https://www.neowin.net/news/microsoft-begins-rolling-out-windows-11-to-select-users-starting-today/" rel="external nofollow">generally available in October 2021</a>.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	In the new support article about the 0x80131500 error, Microsoft lists four ways to fix the issue including tweaking the TLS (transport layer security) internet settings:
</p>

<p>

</p>

<blockquote class="QuoteNewsStyle">
	<p>
		If you see an error that says, "Try that again" or "Error 0x80131500" when using or trying to open Microsoft Store on Windows, try the following solutions.
	</p>

	<p>

	</p>

	<ul>
		<li>
			Reset the Microsoft Store app
		</li>
		<li>
			Check for updates
		</li>
		<li>
			Run the Store troubleshooter (Windows 10 only)
		</li>
		<li>
			Update your internet TLS settings
		</li>
	</ul>
</blockquote>

<p>
	About the TLS settings, Microsoft has asked users to ensure that TLS 1.2 and 1.3 are being used. It writes:
</p>

<p>

</p>

<blockquote class="QuoteNewsStyle">
	<ol>
		<li>
			<p>
				Select the Windows icon to open the Start menu, and search for <strong>Run</strong>.
			</p>
		</li>
		<li>
			<p>
				Enter <span class="ocpUserInput">inetcpl.cpl</span> into the Run dialog box and press <strong>OK</strong>.
			</p>
		</li>
		<li>
			<p>
				Select the <strong>Advanced</strong> tab and scroll to the bottom.
			</p>
		</li>
		<li>
			<p>
				Inspect the <strong>Use TLS</strong> settings:

			<ul style="list-style-type:lower-alpha">

					</p>
				</li>

				</li>
			</ul>
		</li>
		<li>
			<p>
				Press <strong>OK</strong> to save your settings.
			</p>
		</li>
	</ol>
</blockquote>

<p>
	Interestingly, Microsoft has used this "0x80131500" code in the past too in the context of <a href="https://www.neowin.net/news/microsoft-releases-windows-10-build-19042789---heres-whats-new/" rel="external nofollow">Windows 10 20H2 update error</a> in some cases. </p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	Also in case you may not be aware, the <a href="https://www.neowin.net/news/microsoft-reminds-youll-no-longer-have-tls-10-11-in-windows-12-and-the-next-windows-11/" rel="external nofollow">deprecation of TLS 1.0 and 1.1</a> on Windows was announced back in 2023 and is disabled by Microsoft 365 products as well as WinHTTP and WinINet API surfaces.

	Outside of the various native <a href="https://www.neowin.net/news/microsoft-details-regedit-group-policy-editor-and-more-native-windows-1110-config-tools/" rel="external nofollow">customization and tweaking apps</a> Windows already comes with, Microsoft also offers PowerToys which brings with it various useful utilities like Advanced Paste, FancyZones, File Explorer add-ons, Registry Preview, and keyboard and mouse manager, among others.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	As the name itself suggests, PowerToys is meant for power users and Windows enthusiasts.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	The latest update, version 0.89.0, adds media transcoding support to Advanced Paste. Microsoft had <a href="https://x.com/ClintRutkas/status/1885187982900248829" rel="external nofollow">teased the feature last month</a> and it has finally landed today.
</p>

</div>

<p>
	Aside from the new media file conversion abilities in PowerToys, the new update also fixes a bug where the PowerLauncher EXE file would block the creation of shortcuts from other MSI (Windows Installer file). There is also an 18% performance boost for the Always On Top (AoT) utility thanks to optimizations to the logger function.

	Microsoft is at it again! The tech giant is now testing a new, and perhaps somewhat odd, strategy to drive users to its Copilot AI assistant. Microsoft is using Bing's search results in a way that directly targets users looking for Copilot's competitors.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	Microsoft's latest marketing tactic involves a new interactive "Copilot block" within Bing search results. If you use Bing to search for popular AI assistants like Gemini, Grok, Claude, ChatGPT, or Perplexity, you won't just see the usual list of links. Instead, you'll be greeted with a prominent box that allows you to type a message directly to Microsoft Copilot. Hitting "Enter" on your message launches Copilot in a brand new tab, ready for you to continue the conversation.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	This is not Microsoft's first attempt at using the Bing search results page to promote its other products and services. Earlier this year, Bing <a href="https://www.neowin.net/news/microsoft-tricks-people-into-bing-by-making-it-look-like-google-search/" rel="external nofollow">briefly mimicked the Google homepage design</a> when users searched for "Google." After significant user pushback, Microsoft reversed course.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	Later, Microsoft <a href="https://www.neowin.net/news/bing-no-longer-pretends-to-be-google-but-it-still-tries-hard-to-make-you-stay/" rel="external nofollow">came up with a more subtle approach</a>. Searching for "Google" on Bing would display a second search bar at the top of the results, pre-focused so that any further typing would be processed by Bing, not Google. These attempts highlight Microsoft's aggressive tactics to use its search engine to promote its own ecosystem.

<p>
	The company recently unveiled a preview of <a data-analytics-id="inline-link" data-google-interstitial="false" data-hl-processed="skimlinks" data-merchant-name="SkimLinks - opera.com" data-merchant-network="SkimLinks" data-placeholder-url="https://go.redirectingat.com/?id=23432X820454&amp;xcust=hawk-custom-tracking&amp;xs=1&amp;url=https%3A%2F%2Fblogs.opera.com%2Fnews%2F2025%2F03%2Fopera-browser-operator-ai-agentics%2F&amp;sref=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.windowscentral.com%2Fsoftware-apps%2Fbrowsing%2Fopera-browser-operator-promises-to-be-an-ai-agent-with-a-pause-button-to-preserve-privacy" data-url="https://blogs.opera.com/news/2025/03/opera-browser-operator-ai-agentics/" href="https://blogs.opera.com/news/2025/03/opera-browser-operator-ai-agentics/" referrerpolicy="no-referrer-when-downgrade" rel="external nofollow" target="_blank">Browser Operator</a>. As expected, the AI agent is expected to make browsing easier for users.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	Opera says Browser Operator's launch marks the first time a browser can leverage AI capabilities to perform important tasks on the web, salvaging time that can be spent elsewhere.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	It's worth noting that the AI agent is native to the browser. As such, users can remain logged in to websites as their private credentials are secure and won't be forwarded to unauthorized third-party vendors.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	Opera claims this approach is more reliable as it makes the process faster than a server-based solution.<em> "Browser Operator does this in an efficient and intuitive experience, where you are always in control," </em>Opera explained.

					According to Opera:
				</p>

				<p class="QuoteNewsStyle">
					<em>"Browser Operator understands your written instructions in natural language using your browser client’s local resources, and our AI Composer Engine processes this information to complete tasks in the browser. Browser Operator will pause and ask you to take action whenever it needs you to fill in a form, confirm an order, or perform some other sensitive task. In this entire process, you are in control and can take over at any moment from Browser Operator, while you can also review all the steps it took to perform the task you requested."</em>
				</p>

				<p>
					Opera says it has leveraged its expertise in web development to stand out from the crowd and incorporate AI into its browser to work for its users. <em>"We know how a webpage is built and what it’s meant to look like – so we brought AI into our own playing field and created Browser Operator," </em>the company added.
				</p>

				<p>

				</p>

				<p>
					While users have blatantly expressed their reservations toward AI because of privacy and security concerns, Opera promises to preserve their privacy while using Browser Operator. The company indicated that the AI tool doesn't rely on screenshots or video captures to get the job done.
				</p>

				<p>

				</p>

				<figure>
					<blockquote class="QuoteNewsStyle">
						<p>
							We developed Browser Operator so that no information – no keystrokes, no screenshots, etc – will be sent to our server when you use it. When Browser Operator requests you to intervene, or when you take over, no information is being processed by the AI, and it will only start reading the website again when you click “Resume”.
						</p>

						<p>

						</p>

						<p>
							<em><cite>Opera</cite></em>
						</p>
					</blockquote>
				</figure>

				<p>
					Opera reiterates that the AI tool runs natively, restricting your credentials to your device. <em>"It uses the DOM Tree and browser layout data to get context – meaning that it uses a textual representation of the webpage,"</em> the company added.
				</p>

				<p>

				</p>

				<p>
					The company touts this approach as a faster and safer alternative as Browser Operator doesn't need to see and understand the screen from its pixels. Additionally, the tool scours a web page at once, at least in most cases, making it easier to accomplish the assigned task.
				</p>

				<p>

				</p>

				<p>
					While popup dialogs like cookie acceptance and verification dialogs might seem like a deterrent to the AI agent, Opera says this isn't the case because the AI tool views webpage data like the browser does.
				</p>

				<p>

				</p>

				<p>
					Interestingly, Microsoft offers a similar product, <a data-analytics-id="inline-link" data-before-rewrite-localise="https://www.windowscentral.com/software-apps/windows-11/windows-recall-faq-everything-you-need-to-know" href="https://www.windowscentral.com/software-apps/windows-11/windows-recall-faq-everything-you-need-to-know" rel="external nofollow">Windows Recall</a>. But instead of helping users scour the internet while handling multiple tasks, the Windows 11 feature periodically captures snapshots of your computer screen, allowing you to search for specific content you've seen on your PC using natural language.
				</p>

				<p>

				</p>

				<p>
					The Redmond giant has been plagued by <a data-analytics-id="inline-link" data-before-rewrite-localise="https://www.windowscentral.com/software-apps/windows-11/windows-recall-ai-may-sometimes-capture-intricate-credit-card-details-even-when-microsofts-sensitive-information-filter-is-enabled-in-windows-11" href="https://www.windowscentral.com/software-apps/windows-11/windows-recall-ai-may-sometimes-capture-intricate-credit-card-details-even-when-microsofts-sensitive-information-filter-is-enabled-in-windows-11" rel="external nofollow">a cascade of security and privacy issues</a>, which have brewed controversy over the tool's usability.
				</p>

				<p>

				</p>

				<p>
					Opera seemingly has a firm grasp on Browser Operators' privacy and security features, but it remains unseen whether the tool will live up to the hype as reported on paper.
				</p>

				<p>

				</p>

				<p>
					Users can access the feature from Opera's sidebar or the Command Line. It's worth noting that the feature is in preview and may not be available for everyone yet. However, Opera plans to ship the tool to broad availability as part of its<a data-analytics-id="inline-link" data-google-interstitial="false" data-hl-processed="skimlinks" data-merchant-name="SkimLinks - opera.com" data-merchant-network="SkimLinks" data-placeholder-url="https://go.redirectingat.com/?id=23432X820454&amp;xcust=hawk-custom-tracking&amp;xs=1&amp;url=https%3A%2F%2Fpress.opera.com%2F2024%2F03%2F08%2Fopera-one-ai-feature-drops%2F&amp;sref=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.windowscentral.com%2Fsoftware-apps%2Fbrowsing%2Fopera-browser-operator-promises-to-be-an-ai-agent-with-a-pause-button-to-preserve-privacy" data-url="https://press.opera.com/2024/03/08/opera-one-ai-feature-drops/" href="https://press.opera.com/2024/03/08/opera-one-ai-feature-drops/" referrerpolicy="no-referrer-when-downgrade" rel="external nofollow" target="_blank"> AI feature drop program</a>.

<p>
	A couple of months ago, Microsoft announced <a href="https://www.neowin.net/news/microsoft-replaces-web-based-copilot-app-with-a-native-one-for-windows-10-and-11-insiders/" rel="external nofollow">a new "native" Copilot app for Windows</a>. However, the excitement quickly faded when users discovered that the program was still a web app. Now, Microsoft is finally addressing the complaints with a truly native XAML Copilot app for Windows 11. Also, the latest update is making the app more useful for less experienced customers who want to know how to adjust certain settings on their PCs.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	Here is <a href="https://blogs.windows.com/windows-insider/2025/03/03/update-for-copilot-on-windows-begins-rolling-out-to-windows-insiders-with-new-features-and-improvements/" rel="external nofollow">the official announcement</a>:

<blockquote class="QuoteNewsStyle">

			<strong>Native XAML app and new UI</strong>: Includes a new side panel where you can easily start a new conversation and see your conversation history.
		</li>
		<li>
			<strong>Ask questions about your PC</strong>, like “How do I set up a Bluetooth headset on this device?” and Copilot provides information tailored to your current version of Windows.
		</li>
	</ul>
</blockquote>

<p>
	As of now, the updated Copilot app (version 1.25023.101.0) is rolling out to Insiders in all channels. Note that the update is gradual, so you might not have it right away. However, you can try installing the update on your computer even if it is not enrolled in the insider program. Here is how to do it:
</p>

<p>

</p>

<ol>
	<li>
		Go to <a href="https://store.rg-adguard.net/" rel="external nofollow">store.rg-adguard.net</a> and select "<strong>Product ID</strong>" in the first drop-down list.
	</li>
	<li>
		Paste <strong>9NHT9RB2F4HD </strong>into the search bar and select "<strong>Fast</strong>" in the second drop-down list.
	</li>
	<li>
		Click the checkmark button to find available packages.
	</li>
	<li>
		Find <strong>Microsoft.Copilot_1.25023.106.0_neutral_~_8wekyb3d8bbwe.appxbundle</strong> and click it to download.

	</li>
	<li>
		Open the file and click "Update" when prompted.
	</li>
	<li>

	After launching a new Copilot app for Mac last week, Windows is now getting the same treatment with a new native app experience.
</h3>

<p>
	Microsoft is previewing a brand-new Copilot app for Windows 11 that utilizes the company's <a data-analytics-id="inline-link" data-before-rewrite-localise="https://www.windowscentral.com/software-apps/windows-11/microsoft-is-finally-getting-its-windows-ui-platform-act-together-with-winui-3-and-wpf" href="https://www.windowscentral.com/software-apps/windows-11/microsoft-is-finally-getting-its-windows-ui-platform-act-together-with-winui-3-and-wpf" rel="external nofollow">native app UI framework</a> for a more cohesive experience. The new Copilot for Windows, which appears to be rolling out in preview for Insiders, introduces a sidebar for different chats, mica blur effects, and native context menus and buttons that ultimately makes the app more aligned with Windows 11's design language.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	The company launched its new <a data-analytics-id="inline-link" data-before-rewrite-localise="https://www.windowscentral.com/software-apps/windows-11/surprise-microsofts-new-native-copilot-app-for-windows-11-is-still-just-a-website" href="https://www.windowscentral.com/software-apps/windows-11/surprise-microsofts-new-native-copilot-app-for-windows-11-is-still-just-a-website" rel="external nofollow">dedicated Copilot app for Windows a couple of months ago</a>, but the app was initially just a web view of the Microsoft Copilot website. Now, it looks like Windows is getting its own fully fledged Copilot experience, complete with a native interface that is faster to launch, smoother to use, and better to look at.

			I was unhappy with the original web view version of Copilot for Windows, but this new experience is a major step up. The app is now a joy to use, and I'm actually finding myself more inclined to use the app for AI related tasks.

		<p>

		</p>

		<p>
			Also good news is the app doesn't appear to have suffered any feature losses with the update, either. You can still use the Copilot app to chat using text with Microsoft's AI assistant, and Copilot Voice is here too. Copilot will save all your chats in the sidebar, and you can start a new chat at any point by pressing the new chat button.

	AMD released a new chipset driver last month for Ryzen CPUs and their accompanying AM5 and AM4 socket motherboards. The new driver package, version 7.02.13.148, brings multiple new drivers, indicated as "new program added", including one for Pluton which improves support for the <a href="https://www.neowin.net/news/microsoft-and-amd-announce-windows-11-ai-pcs-running-ryzen-8000-pro-and-pluton/" rel="external nofollow">Microsoft Pluton co-processor</a>.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	If you are wondering, Pluton further improves chip-level security over what is offered by the TPM (Trusted Platform Module) or PTT (Platform Trust Technology) in the case of Intel. The new <a href="https://www.neowin.net/news/dell-amd-give-a-reason-why-microsoft-officially-recommends-a-new-pc-to-update-to-windows-11/" rel="external nofollow">AMD Copilot+ PCs</a> come with <a href="https://www.neowin.net/news/microsoft-and-amd-announce-windows-11-ai-pcs-running-ryzen-8000-pro-and-pluton/" rel="external nofollow">Pluton enabled,</a> and thus a couple of new "null drivers" have been added for devices where Pluton is not enabled.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	The new chipset driver also brings a new "AMD Application Compatibility Database Driver" which may help improve application compatibility and system stability across Windows 11 and Windows 10. The effort matches AMD's intent to do the same for fixing its display "driver issues" using the <a href="https://www.neowin.net/news/amds-new-ai-to-fix-windows-driver-issues-with-no-performance-loss-privacy-concerns/" rel="external nofollow">new AMD Image Inspector tool</a>.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	This new driver, although similar sounding, is different from the "AMD Software Compatibility Tool" that helps users find and install the right drivers for their system.
</p>

	Improving Windows 11 Task Manager
</h2>

<p>
	Assuming you haven't installed the latest Insider build of Windows 11, you can do a quick experiment to see a confusing behavior in Task Manager.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	Open Task Manager and take note of the CPU usage shown in the Processes tab. Now swap over to the Performance tab or the Users tab and check those CPU figures.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	There's a good chance you saw three different CPU usage figures. Of course, some change is to be expected over time since computers have so many tasks going on. But there can occasionally be a large discrepancy across these tabs.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	The different figures are a result of Task Manager using different methods of calculation within different tabs. That will soon change.
</p>

			<em>"We are beginning to roll out a change to the way Task Manager calculates CPU utilization for the Processes, Performance, and Users pages. Task Manager will now use the standard metrics to display CPU workload consistently across all pages and aligning with industry standards and third-party tools. For backward compatibility, a new optional column called CPU Utility is available (hidden by default) on the Details tab showing the previous CPU value used on the Processes page."</em>

		<p>
			That change should make CPU usage a bit less confusing for those who open Task Manager.

		<p>
			Microsoft is also working to make it easier to use emojis on Windows 11. The operating system already has a shortcut to the emoji panel, but not everyone knows it (Windows + .).

		<p>

		</p>

		<p>
			A new system tray icon that's in testing would create a new way to open the emoji panel and insert emojis, gifs, and special characters.

Insiders outside the EEA will continue to see the “Weather and more” experience.

			As part of this, we’re also adding support for a new group policy called “Disable Widgets On Lock Screen” that will allow IT administrators to disable lock screen widgets without disabling widgets elsewhere on PCs they manage.
