We are beginning to roll out a change to the way Task Manager calculates CPU utilization for the Processes, Performance, and Users pages. Task Manager will now use the standard metrics to display CPU workload consistently across all pages and aligning with industry standards and third-party tools. For backward compatibility, a new optional column called CPU Utility is available (hidden by default) on the Details tab showing the previous CPU value used on the Processes page.

• We did some work to improve the performance of loading early boot UI including the BitLocker PIN, BitLocker Recovery key, and boot menu screens.
• Fixed an issue for a small number of Insiders which was causing a BitLocker loop in Build 27802.
• Fixed an issue in recent flights where if you tried to run Get-BitLockerVolume, it unexpectedly showed an error.

 

[Other]

 

• We believe one of the underlying changes in the previous flight addressed the issue causing reports that Hyper-V, and other features which rely on Hyper-V (such as WSL) weren’t working properly. If you regularly exchange videos via Telegram, you can cast them to a Chromecast-enabled device without leaving the app and watch them on a big screen. Telegram said the feature is currently available on Android devices where you can choose the playback speed and quality or play the video on a loop.

Those who get a truckload of messages daily can use Star Messages to filter out unwanted chats from their inbox. They can set a fee for messages from people not on their contact list. This fee is not paid in direct cash but in Stars, a virtual currency on Telegram used to purchase digital goods.

In other words, Star Messages allows users to have peace of mind while making some extra bucks on the side. The feature requires a Telegram Premium subscription and is compatible with groups and channel discussions.

Users can choose how many Stars they want to charge per message using a slider. They get 85% of the selected fee while the rest goes to Telegram. However, users can allow certain people to message them without a fee or make an instant refund of the amount after a message is sent.

Speaking of unknown users, Telegram now shows a detailed info page for such senders to spot scams and dodge impersonators. The info screen can have various information, including their country, any shared groups in common, whether it's an official account, when they joined Telegram, and when they last updated their user name or profile picture.

The Stars earned from new senders or elsewhere can now be used to buy a Telegram Premium subscription or gift it to others. Users and groups can also withdraw these stars via Fragment and convert them into rewards to purchase collectibles on the TON blockchain, Telegram Ads, and more.

Businesses can already use Telegram's infrastructure to verify their customer's phone numbers instead of relying on traditional SMS. The company notes its Verification Platform is about nine times cheaper than other services. While SMS can cost about $0.50/message, Telegram only charges $0.01/message.

Its updated Verification Platform now allows developers to cut unnecessary costs. They can set a maximum delivery time for a code; if it's not delivered within that time, the amount is automatically refunded.

TReKiE, in their news tip, had expressed their annoyance, as well as that of some of the others who were also affected by the problem. They said:

Earlier this week I was alerted to an issue affecting a user using OneDrive where shared folders within their account in Windows turned into internet shortcuts (.url files).

When working normally, the user would be able to open the folder and be able to access the files within (as you would normally in Explorer), but for the past week, the only way to access the files within these shared folders is to use a web browser and manually download or go through hoops to open with the Office apps. This has broken entire environments where most users have never even used the web UI before, never mind downloading files manually or trying to sync them in with the desktop office applications.

I know quite a few unhappy users who are ready to jump ship from OneDrive over this and Microsoft's total silence over the issue does not help.

Following our report, the next month, we had an update on the situation that Microsoft had been aware of the issue and was working on it. It apparently had something to do with "internal error affecting data synchronization."

It has nearly been ten months with no fix in sight still for the issue. However, Microsoft finally has another update on it thanks to a response from the Microsoft OneDrive product group, and it is supposedly due to a backend migration issue that the tech giant is currently still performing.

However, it does not give any specific clue as to when this migration phase will be completed, though Microsoft is trying to "speed things up": The message reads:

This is related to a backend migration we are currently doing. Unfortunately, we do not fully support syncing shared folders when one user has migrated and the other has not . We are doing everything possible to speed things up so that the issue can be resolved as quickly as possible for users of the feature. When the accounts are migrated, there is an automatic logic that ensures that they return to a synced folder within a few days.

Please keep in mind that the above response was originally in German and has been Google-translated into English. The response was obtained by a reader on the German media outlet Dr Windows' forum.

The good news is that despite the change, it is still possible to make uBlock Origin and other MV2 extensions work in Chrome. They not only work but they can also be downloaded from the Chrome Web Store. All you need is a few simple tricks. Here is how to restore uBlock Origin in Chrome.

Enable uBlock Origin in Chrome:

1. Go to chrome://extensions and find uBlock Origin in the list of installed extensions.
2. There you will see a message stating that the extension was turned off because it is no longer supported.
3. In the bottom-right corner of the extension card, there is a small grayed-out toggle. Click it to turn on uBlock Origin in Chrome.

   

4. Chrome will warn you not to enable extensions. Dismiss the warning.

   

Note that you can do the same in Edge. Microsoft's browser still lets you turn on the extension, even though MV2-based extensions are on their way out in Microsoft Edge as well.

Download and install uBlock Origin in Chrome:

This section is for those who do not have uBlock Origin installed. It also applies to other MV2-based extensions that Chrome no longer allows installing. Method 1:

1. Launch Chrome and click this link to the Chrome Web Store.
2. Find the "Add to Chrome" button—it should be inaccessible and grayed out.

   

3. Right-click the button and select "Inspect."
4. Chrome will open its developer tools on the "Elements" tab with div class="VfPpkd-dg12Hf-ppH1rf-sM5MNb" highlighted. Click a small arrow to the left of it to expand the section.

   

5. At the end of the button class section, find "disabled" and click it.
6. Change "disabled" to "enabled," and Chrome will turn the "Add to Chrome" button back on.

   

7. Click the button to download and install uBlock Origin in Google Chrome.

Note that Chrome will turn off uBlock Origin the next time you launch the browser. When this happens, go to extensions and turn it back on, as described in the previous section of this guide.

Method 2 is a bit more complicated as it requires manual installation. It is better suited for power users who want more control over their extensions or keep a certain release without updating to newer versions:

1. Go to the extension's official GitHub repository and download the latest extension release for Chromium. You can also download one of the previous versions if necessary.
2. Extract the downloaded archive wherever it is convenient.
3. Launch Chrome and go to chrome://extensions.
4. Toggle on Developer mode.

   

5. Click "Load unpacked."
6. Find the folder with the extracted uBlock Origin files and click "Select folder."

   

7. uBlock Origin will show up in the list of all extensions. Note that there will be an "Errors" button because the extension is Manifest V2-based, which is now deprecated.

   

Keep in mind that all those measures are only temporary. While there is no exact information on when exactly MV2 extensions will stop working with no way to bring them back, it will happen sooner or later. In such a case, switching to Firefox (it does not plan to ditch MV2-based extensions) or MV3 extensions like uBlock Origin Lite might be a better option.

Thankfully, Google Chrome has a hidden option to force all websites you visit to use dark mode. It can cause a few visibility issues, but, for the most part, it works very well. All you have to do is enable a Chrome flag and restart your browser.

Some of you will have used the Dark Reader extension, which is great but doesn’t work on Chrome for Android because Google doesn’t allow extensions there (Edge for mobile supports certain extensions). With the flag technique, however, you can enable dark mode on all the mobile websites you visit in Chrome for Android, too.

1. To get started, go to the URL bar in Chrome on your desktop or mobile device, type chrome://flags/, and hit enter.
2. Next, in the Search flags field, type ‘dark,’ and you will see Auto Dark Mode for Web Contents – this should be available on Windows, Mac, Linux, ChromeOS, and Android, but not iOS.
3. Click the associated drop down that says Default and choose Enabled, you will then be prompted to restart your browser. Upon restart, go to a website that doesn’t have a dark mode. If it’s enabled properly, this website should have a dark theme.

As stated at the beginning of the guide, this is a bit of a hack on Google’s side, so not all websites will adjust perfectly. For most websites, though, you shouldn’t have any issues. If you find deal-breaking changes, you can go back to the Chrome flags and change the drop-down back to Default to undo the change or select another variant of the flag.

Microsoft Publisher is a 35-year-old program (yes, 35), first released in 1991 as part of the Microsoft Office suite. It offers users tools to create various publications such as brochures, newsletters, and business cards.

The program is not as popular as its star siblings (Word, PowerPoint, and Excel), and it seems Microsoft is not really interested in it, leading some Microsoft Most Valuable Professionals to call it an "unwanted step-child" in the Office family due to the lack of dedicated support channels for users.

In our last report on this, Microsoft said it would share more as it looked into new ways to handle common Publisher tasks in Word, PowerPoint, and Designer. That has now been fulfilled, as Microsoft has updated the original support article.

The previous "What you need to do to prepare" section of the article used to have the following message:

No action is required. This information is to allow you sufficient time to plan, and we will share additional updates as the date approaches.

Now, the section has been replaced with a "How to prepare before October 2026" section that begins by advising users to convert their .pub files to another format, as after October 2026, they won't be able to access or edit these files in the non-Perpetual version of Publisher.

The company recommends that you convert your Publisher files to PDF using the following steps:

1. Open the Publisher file.
2. Go to File > Save As.
3. Choose a location to save the file.
4. Select PDF as the file type and click Save.

If you have many files to convert, you can use a macro or one of the many online services that can handle the conversion for you. If you want to edit those files after October 2026, you'll need to convert them to PDF first, then convert them to Word:

1. Open Word.
2. Go to File > Open.
3. Locate and open the PDF file.
4. Select OK in the dialog box.

Your document will open as a Word file.

 

Note: The converted Word document will be optimized for text editing. As a result, its layout may vary from the original PDF, particularly if the document includes many graphics.

The promised "Recommended alternatives to Microsoft Publisher" section contains this table:

Microsoft still maintains that Publisher will be removed from Microsoft 365 next year. This comes after the company recently confirmed reports that Skype was going away after users dug into the app's code and discovered a hidden message notifying users of the app's shutdown in May this year.

The Tor Browser has been updated to version 14.0.7, which was released on March 4. It’s based on Firefox 128.0.8esr and has backport security fixes from the latest Firefox 136. The Tor client was also updated to 0.4.8.14.

With each release of Tails, we typically see improvements to the operating system too, and this release is no exception. With Tails 6.13, the Tor Connection assistant shows a new error message when Wi-Fi hardware isn’t detected.

The developers pointed out that Wi-Fi issues are unfortunately quite common with Tails and Linux, so by adding this more-friendly error screen, new users should have a better experience.

Users are given a few tips to try out if no Wi-Fi hardware is detected. Its recommendations include using a wired connection, tethering via a mobile phone, or buying a USB Wi-Fi adapter that is compatible with Tails.

For those that don’t know, Tails is an operating system that aims to keep users anonymous. Automatic updates to Tails 6.13 are available from Tails 6.0 and above. It’s highly recommended to update as soon as possible to avoid using insecure software.

As usual, I recommend caution just before Microsoft’s Patch Tuesday and thus have raised the MS-DEFCON level to 2.

Let others (aka me) take the slings and arrows. There’s simply no way that those interested in headlines just as clickbait can assess the implications of any Patch Tuesday in just a few hours. I do some testing on my assorted PCs, follow other experts closely, separate fact from fiction, and aggregate what I learn into a Patch Watch column you can trust.

And so, relax and use your favorite method to forestall updates.

It’s eight months and counting until the end of support for Windows 10. Just the other day, I was asking someone in the office if they wanted me to get extended support updates for their home computer. The reply: “Oh, I don’t need support. I never call Microsoft.” Well, hardly anyone calls Microsoft, other than big corporations that can afford the long-term support contracts. The end of Win10 support doesn’t mean you will lose out on the ability to call Microsoft — it just means that your PC won’t get security updates.

Consumers may feel comfortable without such updates, especially if they are using a browser such as Firefox and using its updates to provide at least Web security. Firefox and other browsers will continue to be available for Windows 10 for some time, well past it’s official expiration.

However, business is a different matter — because of the need to follow regulations and guidelines specific to the line of business.

I’m in the process of investigating all available options we have for obtaining ESU updates. I’ve made preliminary contact with a volume-licensing vendor and will keep you posted.

Consumers

I hate “springing forward.” It’s not because I hate daylight saving time per se. I know it means more sunlight throughout the full active day. My problem is sleep deprivation. I know farmers follow the sunlight, but it means that we — and our computers — must adjust.

If the promised legislative end to daylight saving time occurs, it will result in updates to every supported operating system.

If you are my age, you will remember when daylight saving was paused to help with the energy crisis in December 1973. Mind you, I wasn’t using a computer back then. I just remember going to school when it was dark in the morning. In 1986, we started observing seven months of daylight saving and in 2007 we saw eight month’s worth. Each time there is a daylight saving adjustment, computers that automatically adjust the date and time must be updated with new rules. So if we do change again, Windows, all the Apple OSes, Android, and Linux will need updates.

Consumers may see preview updates in the form of Windows 10 KB5052077 and Windows 11 KB5052093. Both offer up a variety of nonsecurity changes and fixes. I do not recommend installing preview updates; instead, I review for highlights of things to come in the March security update.

Windows 10 will get a fix for an issue where Desktop Window Manager (dwm.exe) stops responding many times. Windows 11 preview includes a fix for an issue whereby apps might not recognize a scanner is available when it is connected.

Businesses

Speaking of clocks, if you also have a hybrid setup that bridges Active Directory with Entra ID, I recommend that you standardize on UTC time. If you have any sort of breach or investigation, it will help to have all on-premises logging and cloud logging using the same time zone.

I am still tracking issues related to OneDrive shared folder shortcuts showing up as Internet shortcuts. This is not related to a Windows update but appears to be some backend change that Microsoft has made. Disturbing, to say the least.

Also be aware that AutoCAD 2022 might not open after updating to Windows 11 24H2.

Let me kindly remind you that if you got pushed, shoved, or downright bullied to install 24H2, you have only 10 days to roll back to 23H2. To uninstall Windows 11 24H2 and go back to Windows 11 23H2, head to Settings and visit System | Recovery. Click on the Go back option and follow the on-screen instructions to revert and remove the 24H2 update from your PC. “Go back” may be grayed, which means you’re outside the 10-day grace period.

Plus member Simon Weel reports that he had several domain-based computers that were spontaneously updated to 24H2. I will be the first to tell you that I have never seen systems get updated if they have group policy settings to keep the feature release at a certain version, regardless of their being in a domain-based or peer environment. But I do know that the settings Microsoft uses to control updates via group policy have changed so many times over the years that it’s possible the group policy settings were not right. Microsoft respects group policy settings when it comes to updates. But it makes it increasingly hard to debug why a machine isn’t respecting the settings.

Microsoft's PowerToys has a new toy for power users to play with. The latest update to the app adds media transcoding support through Advanced Paste.

The addition makes it possible to convert video and audio file formats when pasting content. The feature also supports stripping audio away from a video file, which can be quite useful.

Specifically, the update to version 0.89.0 adds the following new paste functions, as outlined by contributor Ani (username drawbyperpetual) on GitHub:

• Transcode to .mp3 - Works against both audio and video files. Extracts the audio channel and saves it as an .mp3 file.
• Transcode to .mp4 (H.264/AAC) - Transcodes video files to use the H.264 video codec and AAC audio codec (if audio is present) and saves the streams to an .mp4 file.

I mostly work with text these days, but back when I worked in local news, I often needed to grab just the audio from a video. Being able to extract the audio channel as an mp3 with a few clicks would have been a very welcome feature in my old newsroom.

Being able to transcode video files to mp4 is also useful, since some videos are in formats that don't play nicely with certain devices.

The message also adds details about when the preview starts and when the move hits general availability. From the looks of it, it does not appear to be too far away as the public preview is set for "mid-March 2025" which means Microsoft will likely start prompting such users next week onwards.

It says:

Eligible users will be prompted in the Message Bar below the toolbar in Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel, and Microsoft PowerPoint for Windows desktops to enroll in OneDrive Known Folder Move (KFM). Users will be able to select the folders to back up in Microsoft OneDrive.

 

When this will happen:

 

Public Preview: We will begin rolling out mid-March 2025 and expect to complete by early April 2025.

 

General Availability (Worldwide): We will begin rolling out early April 2025 and expect to complete by early May 2025.

No action required. The feature will be enabled automatically for eligible users. If KFM is blocked in your organization, the message will not be displayed.

 

If an organization has blocked KFM, we will honor that and not display the message to the organization's users.

Microsoft, in its documentation, had already explained the advantages of OneDrive known folder move (KFM). It says:

There are two primary advantages of moving or redirecting Windows known folders (Desktop, Documents, Pictures, Screenshots, and Camera Roll) to Microsoft OneDrive for the users in your domain:

 

• Your users can continue using the folders they're familiar with. They don't have to change their daily work habits to save files to OneDrive.
• Saving files to OneDrive backs up your users' data in the cloud and gives them access to their files from any device.

 

For these reasons, we recommend moving (redirecting) known folders to OneDrive if you're an enterprise or large organization.

However, in the new M365 message, the company has added some more points as to how KFM can help users. First and foremost, Microsoft has pointed out Copilot support. Aside from that, it has also mentioned easy collaboration, easy access remotely, as well as additional security and protection from data loss. It says:

When users are enrolled in KFM, the files in their enrolled folder benefit from the advantages of cloud files:

 

• Copilot support: Files are Copilot-enabled, making it simple and intuitive to access and leverage Copilot.
• Easy collaboration: Cloud files enable sharing, commenting, and easy collaboration, with AutoSave ensuring changes are frequently and consistently saved.
• Access from anywhere: Cloud files can be accessed from Windows, Mac, the web, iOS, and Android with synchronized changes.
• Increased security and compliance: Enterprises can increase security and compliance, because all cloud files are subject to default classification, labeling, and protection (CLP) policies and auto-labeling.
• Backup: Protection from data loss due to device failure.
• Access to cloud-specific features like AutoSave and Version History
• After enrolling, users can access their files in the known folders in File Explorer or OneDrive.

Thankfully, though Microsoft understands it too and has done so for a very long time, which is why the company debuted the "active hours" feature back in 2016 with the Windows 10 Anniversary Update which lets users pause the update. Over time the feature has been refined and improved, and in the 2019 May update, intelligent active hours was introduced.

Recently, the company published a support article on its website to serve as a reminder about the feature. Microsoft has explained how the active hours feature works and how it can be useful to you whether you are on Windows 11 or Windows 10. It writes:

We've made it easier to keep Windows current with the latest features and improvements—and with fewer interruptions and restarts when you're using your PC the most.

 

The great news is that you don’t have to do anything to get the latest updates, as they'll automatically download and install when they’re available (unless you’re on a metered connection, then updates won’t download until you get them).

 

Occasionally, your PC might need to restart to finish installing the updates. You can set active hours to let us know when you're usually using your PC to help prevent inconvenient restarts.

Following this, the company has also shared two separate step-by-step guides on how to have Windows set up active hours for your PC automatically based on device activity, and also the way to set it up manually. You can find the support document here on Microsoft's website.

In the past, Microsoft had also shared Group Policy edits for managing Windows Update active hours. Registry tweaking exists too.

Upon coming across this, we wondered if this was a recent bug that was affecting the Microsoft Store. However, a quick Google search reveals that people have been encountering this issue for a while with complaints going all the way back to 2019. That was six years ago and pre-dates the release of Windows 11 by two years as the OS became generally available in October 2021.

In the new support article about the 0x80131500 error, Microsoft lists four ways to fix the issue including tweaking the TLS (transport layer security) internet settings:

If you see an error that says, "Try that again" or "Error 0x80131500" when using or trying to open Microsoft Store on Windows, try the following solutions.

 

• Reset the Microsoft Store app
• Check for updates
• Run the Store troubleshooter (Windows 10 only)
• Update your internet TLS settings

About the TLS settings, Microsoft has asked users to ensure that TLS 1.2 and 1.3 are being used. It writes:

1. Select the Windows icon to open the Start menu, and search for Run.

2. Enter inetcpl.cpl into the Run dialog box and press OK.

3. Select the Advanced tab and scroll to the bottom.

4. Inspect the Use TLS settings:

    

   

    

   • Ensure that Use TLS 1.0 and Use TLS 1.1 are unchecked.

   • Ensure that Use TLS 1.2 and Use TLS 1.3 are checked.

      

     Note: Your settings may say "Use TLS 1.3 (experimental)". That's fine, just ensure that it's checked.

      

5. Press OK to save your settings.

Interestingly, Microsoft has used this "0x80131500" code in the past too in the context of Windows 10 20H2 update error in some cases. You can find the support article here on Microsoft's official website.

Also in case you may not be aware, the deprecation of TLS 1.0 and 1.1 on Windows was announced back in 2023 and is disabled by Microsoft 365 products as well as WinHTTP and WinINet API surfaces.

The latest update, version 0.89.0, adds media transcoding support to Advanced Paste. Microsoft had teased the feature last month and it has finally landed today.

Aside from the new media file conversion abilities in PowerToys, the new update also fixes a bug where the PowerLauncher EXE file would block the creation of shortcuts from other MSI (Windows Installer file). There is also an 18% performance boost for the Always On Top (AoT) utility thanks to optimizations to the logger function.

Microsoft's latest marketing tactic involves a new interactive "Copilot block" within Bing search results. If you use Bing to search for popular AI assistants like Gemini, Grok, Claude, ChatGPT, or Perplexity, you won't just see the usual list of links. Instead, you'll be greeted with a prominent box that allows you to type a message directly to Microsoft Copilot. Hitting "Enter" on your message launches Copilot in a brand new tab, ready for you to continue the conversation.

This is not Microsoft's first attempt at using the Bing search results page to promote its other products and services. Earlier this year, Bing briefly mimicked the Google homepage design when users searched for "Google." After significant user pushback, Microsoft reversed course.

Later, Microsoft came up with a more subtle approach. Searching for "Google" on Bing would display a second search bar at the top of the results, pre-focused so that any further typing would be processed by Bing, not Google. These attempts highlight Microsoft's aggressive tactics to use its search engine to promote its own ecosystem.

• Firefox now upgrades page loads to HTTPS by default and gracefully falls back to HTTP if the secure connection fails. This behavior is known as HTTPS-First.
• On macOS, some background tabs will be moved to lower power cores, reducing energy usage.
• Hardware-accelerated playback of HEVC video content is now supported on macOS.
• Hardware video decoding is now enabled for AMD GPUs on Linux.
• On Linux, Firefox is now available on ARM64 (AArch64), with installation options via APT and tarballs. Flatpak support is coming soon.

Generative AI is revolutionizing how we interact with the world, especially the internet. This could be partly attributed to the rapid emergence of AI-powered chatbots like Microsoft Copilot and OpenAI's ChatGPT, which are changing how people conduct online searches.

Experts warn that tools like ChatGPT search may potentially give Google a run for its money in the search landscape. While Google claims it has "all the ingredients" to maintain its lead in AI against competitors, Opera just made a bold move to affirm its position in the AI landscape.

The company recently unveiled a preview of Browser Operator. As expected, the AI agent is expected to make browsing easier for users.

Opera says Browser Operator's launch marks the first time a browser can leverage AI capabilities to perform important tasks on the web, salvaging time that can be spent elsewhere.

It's worth noting that the AI agent is native to the browser. As such, users can remain logged in to websites as their private credentials are secure and won't be forwarded to unauthorized third-party vendors.

Opera claims this approach is more reliable as it makes the process faster than a server-based solution. "Browser Operator does this in an efficient and intuitive experience, where you are always in control," Opera explained.

How does Opera's Browser Operator work?

The update also addresses a couple of security flaws tracked under IDs CVE-2025-22224 and CVE-2025-22225 which are TOCTOU (Time-of-Check Time-of-Use) vulnerabilities that can lead to out-of-bounds writes upon malicious code execution.

If you try installing VMware Workstation Pro on Centos 9 Stream hosts with kernel versions above 5.14.0-432, you receive a compilation error. The issue is resolved in VMware Workstation Pro 17.6.3.

 

Virtual machines on Windows 11 hosts become unresponsive after unlocking the host

 

After locking or unlocking the host with a virtual machine installed on a Windows 11 host, the virtual machine becomes unresponsive. The issue is resolved in VMware Workstation 17.6.3.

The changelog for the latest Intel Bluetooth driver does not mention any specific improvements or changes. Release notes only say that the driver "has been updated to include functional updates," and users should update to the latest version for the best performance.

A couple of months ago, Microsoft announced a new "native" Copilot app for Windows. However, the excitement quickly faded when users discovered that the program was still a web app. Now, Microsoft is finally addressing the complaints with a truly native XAML Copilot app for Windows 11. Also, the latest update is making the app more useful for less experienced customers who want to know how to adjust certain settings on their PCs.

Here is the official announcement:

• Native XAML app and new UI: Includes a new side panel where you can easily start a new conversation and see your conversation history.
• Ask questions about your PC, like “How do I set up a Bluetooth headset on this device?” and Copilot provides information tailored to your current version of Windows.

As of now, the updated Copilot app (version 1.25023.101.0) is rolling out to Insiders in all channels. Note that the update is gradual, so you might not have it right away. However, you can try installing the update on your computer even if it is not enrolled in the insider program. Here is how to do it:

1. Go to store.rg-adguard.net and select "Product ID" in the first drop-down list.
2. Paste 9NHT9RB2F4HD into the search bar and select "Fast" in the second drop-down list.
3. Click the checkmark button to find available packages.
4. Find Microsoft.Copilot_1.25023.106.0_neutral_~_8wekyb3d8bbwe.appxbundle and click it to download.

   

5. Open the file and click "Update" when prompted.
6. Run the updated Copilot app.

In case you missed it, Microsoft recently released a Copilot app for Mac users. It is now available in the App Store with a few additional features, such as a compact search bar for quick conversations with the service. Just do not ask it to help you activate Windows—Microsoft silenced Copilot after users discovered that it could lead them to third-party activation scripts.

Microsoft is previewing a brand-new Copilot app for Windows 11 that utilizes the company's native app UI framework for a more cohesive experience. The new Copilot for Windows, which appears to be rolling out in preview for Insiders, introduces a sidebar for different chats, mica blur effects, and native context menus and buttons that ultimately makes the app more aligned with Windows 11's design language.

The company launched its new dedicated Copilot app for Windows a couple of months ago, but the app was initially just a web view of the Microsoft Copilot website. Now, it looks like Windows is getting its own fully fledged Copilot experience, complete with a native interface that is faster to launch, smoother to use, and better to look at.

If you are wondering, Pluton further improves chip-level security over what is offered by the TPM (Trusted Platform Module) or PTT (Platform Trust Technology) in the case of Intel. The new AMD Copilot+ PCs come with Pluton enabled, and thus a couple of new "null drivers" have been added for devices where Pluton is not enabled.

The new chipset driver also brings a new "AMD Application Compatibility Database Driver" which may help improve application compatibility and system stability across Windows 11 and Windows 10. The effort matches AMD's intent to do the same for fixing its display "driver issues" using the new AMD Image Inspector tool.

This new driver, although similar sounding, is different from the "AMD Software Compatibility Tool" that helps users find and install the right drivers for their system.

  • Install any older version of the AMD Chipset installer (version 6.xx.xx.xx or earlier).
• On a non-English OS, some driver names may appear in English.
• Occasionally, Ryzen PPKG may not install or upgrade.

Microsoft wrapped up last week with a bunch of Windows 11 Insider Builds.

Those in the Canary Channel can upgrade to Build 27802 while those in the Beta Channel will see either Build 22635.5015 or Build 26120.3360 depending on if a person has chosen to receive updates based on Windows 11 version 24H2.

The last of those builds is also available through the Dev Channel.

Improving Windows 11 Task Manager

Assuming you haven't installed the latest Insider build of Windows 11, you can do a quick experiment to see a confusing behavior in Task Manager.

Open Task Manager and take note of the CPU usage shown in the Processes tab. Now swap over to the Performance tab or the Users tab and check those CPU figures.

There's a good chance you saw three different CPU usage figures. Of course, some change is to be expected over time since computers have so many tasks going on. But there can occasionally be a large discrepancy across these tabs.

The different figures are a result of Task Manager using different methods of calculation within different tabs. That will soon change.
