	Calibre is a nifty, free, open-source e-book management tool that lets you organize, convert, and read e-books across a ton of formats. You can tweak metadata, edit books, and sync your collection with various e-readers.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	Plus, it's got this feature where you can pull in news from the web and turn it into e-books for later reading. Even though the design feels a bit old-school, Calibre's functionality makes up for it, making it a favorite among e-book enthusiasts.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	The tool just <a href="https://calibre-ebook.com/whats-new" rel="external nofollow">got its version 8.0.1 update</a>, a little over a month after <a href="https://www.neowin.net/software/calibre-7260/" rel="external nofollow">version 7.26.0 dropped</a>. It brings improvements like support for new firmware on Tolino devices and the ability to view, edit, and convert EPUB books to KEPUB. This update also fixes an issue where systems with the KoboTouchExtended plugin installed and the KoboTouch driver disabled failed to start.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	Calibre offers a collection of built-in news sources, which you can schedule for automatic downloads. Version 8.0.1 brings improvements to the following news sources:

	Microsoft just unveiled DirectX Raytracing (DXR) 1.2 at the Game Developers Conference 2025, an update to the DirectX technology stack it's calling "the next evolution in graphics." While the full showcase will be shown to the public later, the company is promising some major advancements in path tracing performance via opacity micromaps and shader execution reordering.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	According to a <a href="https://devblogs.microsoft.com/directx/announcing-directx-raytracing-1-2-pix-neural-rendering-and-more-at-gdc-2025/" rel="external nofollow">developer blog post</a> by Senior Program Manager Lead at Microsoft, Cassie Hoef, Microsoft is working with hardware partners like AMD, Intel, NVIDIA, and Qualcomm, as well as game developers, to showcase the latest DXR implementation.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	The new technologies that will enable the massive performance boosts in ray tracing are described like this:
</p>

<p>

</p>

<blockquote class="QuoteNewsStyle">
	<ul>
		<li>
			Opacity micromaps significantly optimize alpha-tested geometry, delivering up to 2.3x performance improvement in path-traced games. By efficiently managing opacity data, OMM reduces shader invocations and greatly enhances rendering efficiency without compromising visual quality.
		</li>
		<li>
			Shader execution reordering offers a major leap forward in rendering performance — up to 2x faster in some scenarios — by intelligently grouping shader execution to enhance GPU efficiency, reduce divergence, and boost frame rates, making raytraced titles smoother and more immersive than ever. This feature paves the way for more path-traced games in the future.
		</li>
	</ul>

</figure>

<p>
	"We’re thrilled that our hardware partners are fully embracing these cutting-edge features," added Microsoft. "NVIDIA has committed driver support across GeForce RTX GPUs, and we’re actively working with other hardware vendors, including AMD, Intel, and Qualcomm, to ensure widespread adoption."
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	The company had also unveiled other upcoming technologies at the GDC presentation, including memory usage reduction with the use of "Neural Block Texture Compression," as well as neural supersampling and denoising for accurate real-time path tracing visuals without hurting performance.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	Expect more information about DirectX Raytracing 1.2, with demos showcasing the improvements from developers, to arrive soon.

	If you do use Microsoft Word, you may have noticed the "draft with Copilot" icon that Microsoft added to it. It is displayed whenever you create a new document.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	Using it, you may give Microsoft's AI instructions to create a document draft. This is not the only AI-feature that Microsoft baked into Word.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	<img alt="Microsoft Word Draft with Copilot" class="ipsImage" decoding="async" height="720" width="720" src="https://www.ghacks.net/wp-content/uploads/2025/03/microsoft-word-draft-with-copilot-1200x456.png">
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	A click on the Copilot button in the toolbar shows additional options. You may ask Copilot to summarize a document, create an image based on your descriptions, or ask the AI something.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	The latter can be anything. You could ask any questions about the open document, get advise on grammar or style, or ask if something sounds unclear. Copilot may also give spelling suggestions.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	<img alt="Microsoft Word Copilot" class="ipsImage" decoding="async" height="720" width="720" src="https://www.ghacks.net/wp-content/uploads/2025/03/microsoft-word-copilot-1200x705.png">
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	While that may sound useful to some Word users, others may have no desire to use the artificial intelligence in Word.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	If you belong to the latter group, you may be delighted that Copilot can be turned off in Microsoft Word.
</p>

<h2>
	Remove Copilot from Microsoft Word
</h2>

<p>
	<img alt="Disable Copilot in Word" class="ipsImage" decoding="async" height="720" width="720" src="https://www.ghacks.net/wp-content/uploads/2025/03/disable-copilot-word-1200x942.png">
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	It takes just a few steps to disable Copilot in Microsoft Word. This removes the "draft" action when creating new documents. The Copilot-button in the Word interface is not removed, but it is inactive and grayed out.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	Here is how that is done.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<ol>
	<li>
		Open Microsoft Word on your computer.
	</li>
	<li>
		Select Options on the startpage.
		<ol>
			<li>
				You can also get there by opening a document. Just select File &gt; Options then.
			</li>
		</ol>
	</li>
	<li>
		Switch to Copilot.
	</li>
	<li>
		Uncheck the option "Enable Copilot".
	</li>
	<li>
		Click the OK button to make the change.
	</li>
</ol>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	The change takes effect immediately. There is no need to restart Word.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	You may revert the change at any time by checking the "Enable Copilot" box again in the options in Microsoft Word.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	<strong>Note</strong>: unlike many other settings, disabling Copilot has no effect on other Office applications. You will notice that Copilot remains enabled in Excel, for instance.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	This means, that you need to disable Copilot in all apps of the Office suite that you use to remove it from all of them.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	The process is identical, you only need to launch the desired app instead of Microsoft Word to follow the instructions.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	<strong>Now You:</strong> do you use AI tools or services regularly? If so, which and why? If not, why not?
</p>

	Windows 11 insiders in the Beta and Release Preview channels have plenty of stuff to test this week. In addition to two new preview builds (one <a href="https://www.neowin.net/news/windows-11-261003613-is-out-with-gamepad-keyboard-new-features-for-copilot-pcs-and-more/" rel="external nofollow">here</a> and one <a href="https://www.neowin.net/news/windows-11-beta-build-226355090-is-here-to-fix-windows-update-start-menu-and-more/" rel="external nofollow">here</a>), Microsoft is rolling out fresh updates for Notepad, Paint, and Snipping Tool. Here is what is new.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	Paint version 11.2502.121.0 contains an improved Cocreator side panel. It now features a more intuitive and simplified layout. If you have a compatible device, you can open Cocreator and describe what is on your mind, then start doodling alongside Copilot. The side panel will let you adjust AI's creativity with a slider and regenerate the result with a "Try again" button.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	Here is what the updated side panel looks like:
</p>

</figure>

<p>
	Next, we have Snipping Tool. Windows 11's stock screenshot-taking app now lets you create perfect shapes with the Draw and Hold feature. You can hold your drawing, and the app will straighten its shape (circle, square, line, etc). The update also contains a new and improved protocol launch experience. This change is aimed at developers, and they can learn more about it <a href="https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/apps/develop/launch/launch-snipping-tool" rel="external nofollow">here</a>.

</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	Finally, with version 11.25.01.30.0, Notepad received document summarization. Select a portion of text and press Ctrl + M. The app will then generate a brief summary of the selected portion with the option to adjust the length if necessary. Note that this feature requires a Microsoft 365 Personal or Family subscription. Document summarization in Notepad requires AI credits, but Copilot Pro subscribers can use the feature without any limits.

	Google has <a href="https://blog.google/products/gmail/gmail-search-update-relevant-emails/" rel="external nofollow">announced in a new blog post</a> that it is rolling out a new feature that it claims will 'show you the most relevant results, faster.' Search in Gmail has historically been <a href="https://support.google.com/mail/thread/40263862/gmail-search-sucks-so-bad?hl=en" rel="external nofollow">viewed as bad by many users over the years,</a> which is ironic given that Google is a search giant providing more traffic to websites than any other online source.

<p>

<p>
	Over the years, Google has made several changes to Gmail to improve the search experience, like back in 2021 when the company started <a href="https://www.neowin.net/news/gmail-search-results-will-now-display-your-email-aliases/" rel="external nofollow">displaying email aliases</a> in search results, and in 2023 when it <a href="https://www.neowin.net/news/gmail-is-adding-a-top-results-feature-for-searching-emails-on-mobile-apps/" rel="external nofollow">added a "top results" feature</a> that made searching your email feel more like you were searching the web.

	According to Google, this new Gmail search update, powered by AI, works by factoring in elements like recency, most-clicked emails, and frequent contacts instead of just showing emails in chronological order based on keywords.

	Google says this new feature will roll out globally for personal Google accounts on the web, Android, and iOS, with plans to expand to business users later, though the company has not provided a timeline.

	As promised earlier, Nvidia is adding more features to its shiny new Nvidia App for Windows. With the latest update, version 11.0.3, users can adjust the input resolution for DLSS (this settings adjusts the output performance and image quality) and access two features from the old Nvidia Control Panel app: display scaling and display color settings. In addition, the update packs some bug fixes and optimal settings support for more games.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	Here is the list of new features:
</p>

<p>

</p>

<blockquote class="QuoteNewsStyle">
	<p>
		<strong>Customize Input Resolution For DLSS Super Resolution</strong>
	</p>

	<p>

	</p>

	<ul>
		<li>
			You can now adjust the input render resolution for DLSS Super Resolution, enabling precise tuning of the new transformer model to optimize performance or enhance image quality. Available for supported titles under Graphics &gt; Driver Setting &gt; DLSS Override - Super Resolution.

		</li>
		<li>
			Added Display Color Settings, which lets you adjust and calibrate the color settings for your display. Available under System &gt; Display.
		</li>
	</ul>
</blockquote>

<p>
	Here are the fixed bugs
</p>

<p>

</p>

<blockquote class="QuoteNewsStyle">
	<ul>
		<li>
			Resolved an issue where desktop capture was not activated when using hotkeys.
		</li>

</p>

<p>

</p>

<ul>
	<li>
		<em>Avowed</em>
	</li>
	<li>
		<em>DYNASTY WARRIORS: ORIGINS</em>
	</li>
	<li>
		<em>FINAL FANTASY VII REBIRTH</em>
	</li>
	<li>
		<em>Kingdom Come: Deliverance II</em>
	</li>
	<li>
		<em>Marvel's Spider-Man 2</em>
	</li>
	<li>
		<em>Sid Meier's Civilization VII</em>
	</li>
	<li>
		<em>SUPERVIVE</em>
	</li>
</ul>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	You can <a href="https://www.nvidia.com/en-us/software/nvidia-app/" rel="external nofollow">download Nvidia App from the official website</a>. It works on Windows 10 and 11 systems with GeForce graphics cards all the way down to GTX 800 and graphics driver 551.52 or newer.

<p>

</p>

<p>
	The best way to use GNOME 48 is to wait for a Linux distribution to ship with it. One of the first distros that will include it will be Fedora 42. The <a href="https://www.neowin.net/news/fedora-42-beta-out-with-new-cosmic-desktop-environment-spin-/" rel="external nofollow">beta of Fedora 42</a> came out this week and the final release is expected in mid-April. If you use non-LTS versions of Ubuntu, then Ubuntu 25.04 will include GNOME 48 too.

	Microsoft, today, <a href="https://www.neowin.net/news/microsoft-removes-a-windows-11-24h2-update-block-download-now-available-to-more-users/" rel="external nofollow">removed another Windows 11 24H2 compatibility block</a> which means the feature update is now available for download to those who were affected.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	Speaking of Windows 11 24H2, the company today also shared a new TPM verification tool called the "attestation readiness verifier tool" which will help to check for and identify various compatibility, security, and reliability issues at the hardware and firmware level.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	Neowin has covered <a href="https://www.neowin.net/news/microsoft-but-mostly-amd-silent-on-windows-11-tpm-attestation-bug-even-on-supported-cpus/" rel="external nofollow">attestation-related bugs</a> in the past and Microsoft has also previously worked on a "<a href="https://www.neowin.net/news/having-tpm-issues-microsoft-working-on-a-new-windows-11-tpm-troubleshooter/" rel="external nofollow">TPM troubleshooter</a>" option inside the Security app.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	With this new tool, Microsoft says that users will be able to better understand the level of TPM attestation readiness using newly presented information in the Event Viewer.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	If you are not familiar, the (Windows) Event Viewer helps Windows keep logs of the various "events" carried out by the apps and drivers. <a href="https://www.neowin.net/news/microsoft-details-regedit-group-policy-editor-and-more-native-windows-1110-config-tools/" rel="external nofollow">Microsoft recommends it as a useful utility</a> to help troubleshoot issues.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	Microsoft explains:
</p>

<p>

</p>

<blockquote class="QuoteNewsStyle">
	<p>
		Attestation readiness verifier indicates three possible health states. You'll find them in the Event Viewer Log at every boot and hibernate–resume, as follows:
	</p>

	<p>

	</p>

	<ul>
		<li>
			<strong>Attestable</strong>: All checks passed. Attestation is expected to report an accurate state.
		</li>
		<li>
			<strong>Possibly attestable</strong>: A platform configuration register (PCR) issue was detected during boot. PCRs are updated by components like UEFI firmware and securely stored in the TPM. <a href="https://www.neowin.net/news/microsoft-lists-a-reason-why-tpm-secure-boot-are-required-on-windows-11-in-2024-2025/" rel="external nofollow">Correctness of PCRs affects the health of security features like BitLocker</a> and attestation. Note: Try restarting your machine first. If it doesn't help, you might need to work with your device or UEFI vendor.
		</li>
		<li>
			<strong>Not attestable</strong>: A critical check has failed. The device booted in an unhealthy state.
		</li>
	</ul>
</blockquote>

<p>
	A detailed guide about it has also been published by Microsoft on the announcement blog post which you can read <a href="https://techcommunity.microsoft.com/blog/windows-itpro-blog/attestation-readiness-verifier-for-tpm-reliability/4394221" rel="external nofollow">here</a>.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	This announcement comes hot on the heels of Microsoft adding "enhanced" hardware-backed attestation for Windows 11 on Intune. The Microsoft 365 roadmap entry under ID <a href="https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/microsoft-365/roadmap?searchterms=387499" rel="external nofollow">387499</a> describes the new feature:
</p>

<p>

</p>

<blockquote class="QuoteNewsStyle">
	<p>
		<strong>Microsoft Intune: Hardware backed attestation - enhanced for Windows 11</strong>
	</p>

	<p>

	</p>

	<p>
		This will enhance the Windows compliance policy - device health by adding five additional hardware attestation settings specific to Windows 11 using advanced platform security features like Memory Integrity and Access Protection, firmware protection, virtualization-based security, and Early Launch Antimalware protection.
	</p>
</blockquote>

<p>
	For those wondering, TPM attestation is sort of similar to how UEFI Secure Boot works. The difference is that Secure Boot's function is to check for secure bootloaders while TPM attestation ensures TPM authenticity by attesting that the corresponding RSA (Rivest, Shamir, Adleman) keys are trusted by the CA (certificate authority).
</p>

	AMD has released a new display driver today for Windows 11/10. This is a beta driver and is not Microsoft WHQL certified. The release is said to address one of the biggest Windows Update-related issues wherein an older driver delivered via Windows Update will overwrite a newer driver.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	This issue happens across different generations of GPUs, but AMD says that the bug has been resolved for its latest RX 9000 series cards. So that is some progress, and hopefully, the Radeon team will be able to fix this issue for all generations of its GPUs.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	Aside from that, the new 25.3.2 driver (Driver Version 24.30.31.04 and Windows Driver Store Version 32.0.13031.4034) also brings support for a couple of new games. First is Ubisoft's <em>Assassin's Creed Shadows,</em> and second is <em>The Last of Us Part II</em> <em>Remastered</em>.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	There are also several game bug fixes, like the one for MSAA on <em>Counter-Strike 2, </em>Alt-Tab crashing, a multi-monitor bug, and more. The full release notes are given below:

	Microsoft has removed yet another safeguard hold that was put in place for Windows 11 24H2. The upgrade block was placed on systems with Asphalt 8 as the would freeze or stop responding. Interestingly, the safeguard hold for this issue was already <a href="https://www.neowin.net/news/windows-11-version-24h2-is-now-available-for-download/" rel="external nofollow">present at launch</a> which means the company had known about it from Inisder testing.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	Microsoft has explained what the problem was and has also added the safeguard hold ID for IT admins and sysadmins:
</p>

<blockquote class="QuoteNewsStyle">
	<p>
		After installing Windows 11, version 24H2, you might face issues with Asphalt 8 (Airborne). The game might stop responding with an exception while you are using or exiting it, and you will have to restart the game to recover from the exception.
	</p>

	<p>

	</p>

	<p>
		To safeguard your update experience, we have applied a compatibility hold on devices using Asphalt 8. These devices will not be offered to install Windows 11, version 24H2 via the Windows Update release channel. IT administrators using Windows Update for Business reports can check this issue using its safeguard ID: 52796746.
	</p>

	<p>

	</p>

	<p>
		<strong>Resolution</strong>: This issue has been resolved. The safeguard hold (ID 52796746) that was previously in place for this issue has been lifted.
	</p>

	<p>

	</p>

	<p>
		It may take up to 48 hours for the Windows 11, version 24H2 update to be offered in the Windows Update in Settings. Restarting your device might expedite the process.
	</p>
</blockquote>

<p>
	Thus the company says that users who were affected by this will be able to download Windows 11 version 24H2 very soon as it typically takes up to 48 hours or two days for the feature update to be offered. You can find the issue <a href="https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/release-health/status-windows-11-24h2#251msgdesc" rel="external nofollow">here</a> on Microsoft's Windows health dashboard site.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	In the rare case that you have still not been offered Windows 11 24H2 without any compatibility block, you can try this <a href="https://www.neowin.net/news/update-to-windows-11-24h2-immediately-with-this-official-registrygroup-policy-hack/" rel="external nofollow">Registry/Group Policy hack to update immediately</a>.

	Kali Linux has released version 2025.1a, the first version of 2025, with one new tool, desktop changes, and a theme refresh.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	Kali Linux is a distribution created for cybersecurity professionals and ethical hackers to red team exercises, penetration testing, security audits, and research against networks.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	As is typical for the year's first version, the Kali Team has released new visual elements, including wallpapers and desktop environments.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	Note that the strange version number is because the developers stated they found a last-minute bug in 2025.1, which required a fix and rebuild. This led to the release of 2025.1a as the first release of 2025.
</p>

<h2>
	New tool added to Kali Linux 2025.1
</h2>

<p>
	As with every release, Kali Linux comes with a new tool toy to play with.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	Unfortunately, the team said this release is mostly focused on updates, so only one tool was included this time:
</p>

<p>

</p>

<ul style="list-style-type:square">
	<li>
		<a href="https://www.kali.org/tools/hoaxshell/" rel="external nofollow" target="_blank">hoaxshell</a> - Windows reverse shell payload generator and handler that abuses the http(s) protocol to establish a beacon-like reverse shell
	</li>
</ul>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	In addition to Hoaxshell, Kali says they upgraded the Kernel version to 6.12.
</p>

<h2>
	Annual theme refresh
</h2>

<p>
	With the year's first version, the Kali Team introduces a theme update consisting of new wallpapers and changes to the boot and login experience.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	"Just like our previous releases, the first one of the year, 20XX.1, has our annual theme refresh, a tradition that keeps our interface as modern as our tools," reads the <a href="https://www.kali.org/blog/kali-linux-2025-1-release/" rel="external nofollow" target="_blank">Kali 2025.1a announcement</a>.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	"This year, we are excited to unveil our latest theme, thoughtfully designed to enhance the user experience from the moment you start up."
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	"Expect notable updates to the boot menu, login screen, and a stunning selection of desktop wallpapers for both Kali and Kali Purple editions."
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	This Kali version also comes with five new wallpapers and three additional backgrounds in the Community Wallpapers package.
</p>

<h2>
	New desktop changes
</h2>

<p>
	This release also comes with desktop changes, including Plasma 6.2 and Xfce 4.20.
</p>

<p>
	For those updating from a previous version, you can use the following commands to upgrade to the latest version.
</p>

<pre style="margin-left: 40px;"><code class="language-xml">echo "deb http://http.kali.org/kali kali-rolling main contrib non-free non-free-firmware" | sudo tee /etc/apt/sources.list

sudo apt update &amp;&amp; sudo apt -y full-upgrade

cp -vrbi /etc/skel/. ~/

[ -f /var/run/reboot-required ] &amp;&amp; sudo reboot -f</code></pre>

<p>
	If you are running Kali on the Windows Subsystem for Linux, upgrade to WSL2 for a better experience, which includes the ability to use graphical apps.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	You can check the WSL version used by Kali with the 'wsl -l -v' command in a Windows command prompt.

	Microsoft is making it easier to identify why your PC may run into performance issues.
</h3>

<p>
	Windows 11 will soon have an FAQ page within its Settings app to help you identify any shortcomings in your PC. The feature, which is currently hidden in recent Dev Channel builds of Windows 11, includes questions such as "Am I running the latest version of the Windows OS?"
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	In addition to identifying if your PC is on the latest version of Windows 11, that page will let you know if your system's GPU is good enough for high-end gaming and video tasks.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	The FAQ section includes the question, "how can having a dedicated GPU enhance my experience and productivity?"
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	The list of questions within the Settings app was spotted and shared by X user phantomofearth, who stays on top of hidden and in-development features for Windows 11.
</p>

<div>
	<div>
		<p>
			Instead of simply stating whether your PC has enough RAM, the page explains how having 4-8GB of RAM impacts performance.
		</p>

		<p>

		</p>

		<p>
			Since the FAQ page is a hidden feature, it's not clear if the same questions will appear on all systems. I would hope a PC with 32GB of RAM would not see a message about how low RAM affects PC performance.
		</p>

		<p>

		</p>

		<p>
			The feature is hidden with Builds 26120.3576 and 22635.5090 of Windows 11. It can be enabled through third-party utility ViVeTool with the ID "5530588," though there isn't much value in enabling the feature early.

						<p>

						</p>

						<p>
							Microsoft receives a lot of criticism for the strict minimum requirements of Windows 11. Millions of PCs will be stuck on Windows 10 later this year, forcing some users to either upgrade their hardware or explore <a data-analytics-id="inline-link" data-before-rewrite-localise="https://www.windowscentral.com/software-apps/months-before-millions-of-pcs-will-get-stuck-on-windows-10-google-makes-its-case-for-running-chromeos-to-use-microsoft-365" href="https://www.windowscentral.com/software-apps/months-before-millions-of-pcs-will-get-stuck-on-windows-10-google-makes-its-case-for-running-chromeos-to-use-microsoft-365" rel="external nofollow">alternatives like ChromeOS</a>.
						</p>

						<p>

						</p>

						<p>
							I've criticized Microsoft many times for how it's handled the rollout of Windows 11, but I'd like to play devil's advocate a bit and ask for your thoughts.
						</p>

						<p>

						</p>

						<p>
							When people face an issue on a PC, whether that be a security flaw or poor performance, many of them blame Windows rather than the specs of their hardware. They may also blame the maker of their PC.
						</p>

						<p>

						</p>

						<p>
							Microsoft wants people to have a positive experience with Windows 11. Apart from any altruistic desire to help people compute in everyday life, Microsoft also makes money when people buy PCs and use Microsoft services.
						</p>

						<p>

						</p>

						<p>
							There is an argument to be made that strong-arming people into using systems that meet certain specs helps ensure a positive experience, which in turn makes those users less frustrated and more likely to buy another PC in the future.
						</p>

						<p>

						</p>

						<p>
							Is the TPM 2.0 requirement too strict? Perhaps.
						</p>

						<p>

						</p>

						<p>
							Is there a counter argument that people should be able to run Windows 11 on a PC that is technically capable even if it falls short of ideal specs? Absolutely.
						</p>

						<p>

						</p>

						<p>
							But it's not too wild to argue Microsoft wants people using Windows 11 to have a good experience, and that requires certain specs in many cases.

	A few days ago, while browsing, Neowin spotted that Microsoft had added a new bug to its known issues list wherein Windows 11 and 10 March Patch Tuesday updates (<a href="https://www.neowin.net/news/windows-10-kb5053606--kb5053596--kb5053594--kb5053618-march-2025-patch-tuesday-out/" rel="external nofollow">KB5053606 / KB5053596 / KB5053594 / KB5053618</a> on Windows 10 and <a href="https://www.neowin.net/news/windows-11-kb5053598-kb5053602-march-2025-patch-tuesday-out/" rel="external nofollow">KB5053598/ KB5053602</a> on Windows 11) would <a href="https://www.neowin.net/news/microsoft-windows-11--10-kb5053598--kb5053602--kb5053606-uninstall-copilot-automatically/" rel="external nofollow">automatically uninstall Copilot</a>.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	While Microsoft loves the idea of Copilot as it feels it can help users and organizations alike do a great many things <a href="https://www.neowin.net/news/copilot-for-gaming-announced-an-ai-driven-sidekick-for-xbox-games/" rel="external nofollow">even shoving it inside games</a>, many Windows users including <a href="https://www.neowin.net/news/microsoft-windows-11--10-kb5053598--kb5053602--kb5053606-uninstall-copilot-automatically/#comment-598973418" rel="external nofollow">several Neowin readers</a> joked that it was the best Windows update in a long time and they would love keeping it that way for a while.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	Sadly, for those people, Microsoft has fixed the issue which Neowin spotted again today while browsing the Windows bugs section, although this also spells good news for folks who regularly rely on Copilot for their daily workflow.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	Microsoft writes:
</p>

<p>

</p>

<blockquote class="QuoteNewsStyle">
	<p>
		<strong>Applies to:</strong> All Users.
	</p>

	<p>

	</p>

	<p>
		<strong>Symptoms</strong>
	</p>

	<p>

	</p>

	<p>
		We're aware of an issue with the Microsoft Copilot app affecting some devices. The app is unintentionally uninstalled and unpinned from the taskbar.
	</p>

	<p>

	</p>

	<p>
		<strong>Note</strong>: This issue has not been observed with the Microsoft 365 Copilot app.
	</p>

	<p>

	</p>

	<p>
		<strong>Workaround</strong>
	</p>

	<p>

	</p>

	<p>
		This issue has been fixed, and the affected devices are being returned to their original state. You can also reinstall the app from the Microsoft Store and pin it to the taskbar.
	</p>
</blockquote>

<p>
	Thus, Microsoft has not disclosed what caused the issue or how it fixed it. The tech giant simply notes that "the affected devices are being returned to their original state". Regardless, it must be said that the company managed to resolve the bug quite fast.
</p>

	Fedora 42 Beta is <a href="https://fedoramagazine.org/announcing-fedora-linux-42-beta/" rel="external nofollow">now available</a> for enthusiasts to download and test before the stable version lands in about a month. This release is going to be quite notable because the KDE Spin has been promoted to edition status, and there is a new Spin available featuring System76’s COSMIC desktop environment, which is built using Rust, featuring built-in safety compared to other low-level programming languages like C.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	Regarding new changes to Fedora Workstation, which is GNOME-based, we get the new DNF 5, which can remove expired or obsolete repository keys from the system. This automation means less unnecessary data accumulates on your installation, and it means fewer things will go wrong.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	Another change in Fedora Workstation is the SDL 3 transition and Wayland-by-default for SDL apps. Fedora 42 Beta also adds the GNOME Wellbeing feature in Settings, which lets you track screen time, set time limits, and more.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	The Fedora project is seeking willing guinea pigs to try out the new beta so that more bugs can be reported and quashed before the stable release in around one month’s time. If you do find any bugs while testing, you can read the <a href="https://docs.fedoraproject.org/en-US/quick-docs/bugzilla-file-a-bug/" rel="external nofollow">Fedora Docs</a> to learn how to file bugs.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	If you’re interested in downloading this beta, just head to the Fedora Workstation <a href="https://fedoraproject.org/workstation/download" rel="external nofollow">download page</a> and toggle the Show Beta downloads option to be presented with the beta download options. If you want the COSMIC Spin, then the best way to obtain it right now appears to be <a href="https://torrent.fedoraproject.org/" rel="external nofollow">via torrent</a>; just scroll down until you reach the Fedora 42 section.

			We have always remained realistic when <a data-analytics-id="inline-link" data-before-rewrite-localise="https://www.windowscentral.com/hardware/laptops/apparently-its-a-problem-again-that-snapdragon-x-laptops-that-arent-for-gaming-cant-play-a-lot-of-games" href="https://www.windowscentral.com/hardware/laptops/apparently-its-a-problem-again-that-snapdragon-x-laptops-that-arent-for-gaming-cant-play-a-lot-of-games" target="_blank" rel="external nofollow">discussing the topic of gaming on Snapdragon X Elite laptops</a>, but it doesn't stop ARM64 gaming performance improvements from being exciting.
		</p>

		<p>

		</p>

		<p>
			Epic Games and Qualcomm are already pairing up to solve the issue of missing anti-cheat support and <a data-analytics-id="inline-link" data-before-rewrite-localise="https://www.windowscentral.com/gaming/epic-games-and-qualcomm-are-teaming-up-to-solve-one-of-the-biggest-roadblocks-to-gaming-on-snapdragon-x-pcs" href="https://www.windowscentral.com/gaming/epic-games-and-qualcomm-are-teaming-up-to-solve-one-of-the-biggest-roadblocks-to-gaming-on-snapdragon-x-pcs" target="_blank" rel="external nofollow">allow the phenomenally popular Fortnite to come to Snapdragon X laptops</a>, so seeing similarly successful games like the <a data-analytics-id="inline-link" data-before-rewrite-localise="https://www.windowscentral.com/gaming/palworlds-long-awaited-crossplay-update-finally-has-a-launch-window-linking-xbox-playstation-and-pc-players-together" href="https://www.windowscentral.com/gaming/palworlds-long-awaited-crossplay-update-finally-has-a-launch-window-linking-xbox-playstation-and-pc-players-together" target="_blank" rel="external nofollow">crossplay-enabled Palworld</a> come to the platform is encouraging.
		</p>

		<p>

		</p>

		<p>
			Native ARM64 builds would always be better for gaming performance. Still, updates like these bring us closer to <a data-analytics-id="inline-link" data-before-rewrite-localise="https://www.windowscentral.com/hardware/laptops/qualcomms-snapdragon-x-elite-will-run-windows-games-just-fine-using-x64-emulation" href="https://www.windowscentral.com/hardware/laptops/qualcomms-snapdragon-x-elite-will-run-windows-games-just-fine-using-x64-emulation" target="_blank" rel="external nofollow">running these titles "just fine" using x64 emulation</a>, as Qualcomm boasted in the early days of Windows on Snapdragon.
		</p>

		<p>

		</p>

		<p>
			Selfishly, my long-term dream for Qualcomm is to see it partner with PC gaming handheld OEMs similar to the <a data-analytics-id="inline-link" data-before-rewrite-localise="https://www.windowscentral.com/hardware/cpu-gpu-components/next-gen-qualcomm-snapdragon-g-series-chips-announced" href="https://www.windowscentral.com/hardware/cpu-gpu-components/next-gen-qualcomm-snapdragon-g-series-chips-announced" target="_blank" rel="external nofollow">recently-announced Android-based devices running Snapdragon G chips</a> and succeed in this evolving market.
		</p>

		<p>
			The rapid progression of <a data-analytics-id="inline-link" data-before-rewrite-localise="https://www.windowscentral.com/gaming/pc-gaming/intel-xess-2-now-available-with-frame-generation-low-latency" href="https://www.windowscentral.com/gaming/pc-gaming/intel-xess-2-now-available-with-frame-generation-low-latency" target="_blank" rel="external nofollow">Intel's platform-agnostic XeSS 2 upscaling technology</a> and its competitors have legitimized the concept of AAA gaming in ultra-portable form factors with low-power processors running at maximum efficiency — whether Qualcomm can offer a comparable suite for PC gaming is up for debate, but more competition is always good.

	</p>

	<p>

	</p>

	<ul>

The feature will show some existing cards relevant to enterprise-managed PCs like “Recommended settings” and “Bluetooth devices” as well as two new enterprise-specific device info and accessibility preferences cards
		</li>
		<li>
			New! We are rolling out “top cards” under Settings &gt; System &gt; About. These top cards provide an easy way to view your PC’s key specifications—processor, RAM, storage, and GPU—helping you understand your PC’s capabilities at-a-glance.
		</li>
		<li>

		</li>
	</ul>

	</p>

	<p>
		[<strong>Input</strong>]
	</p>

	<p>

	</p>

	<ul>

			New! We have enabled the Gamepad keyboard layout for the touch keyboard in Windows 11. This change introduces the ability to use your Xbox controller to navigate and type. This includes button accelerators (example: X button for backspace, Y button for spacebar) additionally the keyboard keys have been vertically aligned for better controller navigation patterns.
		</li>
		<li>
			New! A new experience to improve the discoverability of the emoji and more panel in Windows 11 with the introduction of a new system tray icon on the taskbar.
		</li>
		<li>

		</li>
		<li>
			Fixed: ctfmon.exe may restart when copying data from certain apps.
		</li>
	</ul>

	<p>

	</p>

	<p>
		[<strong>Voice access</strong>]
	</p>

	<p>

	</p>

	<ul>

	The latest Windows 11 preview builds from the Dev and Beta channels delivered some welcome changes for different parts of the operating system, plus a few unannounced improvements. One of those improvements lies within the Settings app to <a href="https://www.neowin.net/news/windows-11-will-soon-be-able-to-explain-why-your-pc-needs-more-ram-and-a-better-gpu/" rel="external nofollow">help users better understand their PC hardware capabilities</a>. Another change will help you keep the Start menu neat and organized.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	In Windows 11 builds <a href="https://www.neowin.net/news/windows-11-build-261203576-is-out-with-voice-access-recall-improvements-and-more/" rel="external nofollow">26120.3576</a> and <a href="https://www.neowin.net/news/windows-11-beta-build-226355090-is-here-to-fix-windows-update-start-menu-and-more/" rel="external nofollow">22635.5090</a>, Microsoft implemented a new method to move apps around and create new folders. You can right-click a pinned app and select "Move left" or "Move right." Of course, you can always drag an app with your mouse or finger, but this method sometimes behaves a bit unreliable, so a simple move left and right command will help in this regard.
</p>

<figure class="image image--expandable">
	<img alt="The updated Start menu in Windows 11" class="ipsImage" height="434" width="720" src="https://cdn.neowin.com/news/images/uploaded/2025/03/1742332428_start_menu.jpg">
</figure>

<p>
	In addition to moving apps around, the updated Start menu makes Start menu folders more apparent. In the Stable build, creating a folder in the Start menu requires dragging one app onto another. With the latest preview update, you can right-click an app and select the option to create a new folder or move the program to an existing one.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	Microsoft has not mentioned all those improvements in release notes, but you can force-enable them with the ViVeTool app, assuming you are already on build 26120.3576 or 22625.5090:
</p>

<p>

</p>

<ol>
	<li>
		Download ViveTool <a href="https://github.com/thebookisclosed/ViVe/releases" rel="external nofollow">from </a><a href="https://github.com/thebookisclosed/ViVe/releases" rel="external nofollow">GitHub</a> and unpack the files in a convenient and easy-to-find folder.
	</li>
	<li>
		Launch Command Prompt as administrator.
	</li>
	<li>
		Navigate to the folder containing the ViveTool files with the <strong>CD</strong> command. For example, if you have placed ViveTool in C:\Vive, type <strong>CD C:\Vive</strong>.
	</li>
	<li>
		Type <strong>vivetool /enable /id:50472543,50472600</strong> and press <strong>Enter</strong>.
	</li>
	<li>
		Restart your computer.
	</li>
</ol>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	The new commands join other improvements that Microsoft is currently preparing for the Start menu. They include <a href="https://www.neowin.net/news/windows-11-start-menu-is-getting-a-new-layout-and-microsoft-is-adding-improvements-to-it/" rel="external nofollow">new layouts for the "All apps" list</a>, the ability to launch Snap groups from the Start menu, and <a href="https://www.neowin.net/news/microsoft-is-finally-making-windows-11s-start-menu-more-convenient/" rel="external nofollow">more</a>.

	The latest Windows 11 preview builds that Microsoft released this week include an improved "About" section in the Settings app where users can get more information about the hardware inside their computers. In addition to "spec cards," Microsoft is working on a dedicated FAQ section to help users better understand how their components affect performance.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	The first traces of the new section were spotted some time ago, but now, we have actual questions and answers available in Settings &gt; About. Microsoft has not announced the new section yet, but you can get it working with some trickery.
</p>

<figure class="image image--expandable">
	<img alt="The updated About section in Windows 11s Settings app" class="ipsImage" height="434" width="720" src="https://cdn.neowin.com/news/images/uploaded/2025/03/1742322891_settings_about_faq.jpg">
</figure>

<p>
	Of course, none of what Microsoft says in the new section is new to more or less experienced PC users. However, newcomers to the Windows and PC ecosystems might find the information useful. As of right now, users managed to dig out the following questions:
</p>

<p>

</p>

<blockquote class="QuoteNewsStyle">
	<ul>
		<li>
			Am I running the latest version of the Windows OS? What is the latest Windows version?
		</li>
		<li>
			<p>
				How does having 4-8 GB of RAM impact my PC’s performance? Can I run modern applications smoothly with this RAM capacity?
			</p>

			<p>

			</p>
		</li>
		<li>
			<p>
				What is a GPU? I don’t have a dedicated GPU. How does its absence impact gaming and graphics performance?
			</p>

			<p>

			</p>
		</li>
		<li>
			<p>
				Is my GPU sufficient for high-end gaming and video experience? How can having a dedicated GPU enhance my experience and productivity?
			</p>
		</li>
	</ul>
</blockquote>

<p>
	It is worth noting that the list of available questions depends on your specific hardware. For example, users with integrated graphics will have a question about the lack of a discrete graphics card. The question and the answer about the system memory also depend on how much RAM your PC has. Interestingly, there is even a version for those with less than 4GB of RAM. Even though 4GB is the bare minimum (officially) for Windows 11, Microsoft still included a version for those with seriously low-end computers.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	While Microsoft's answers about RAM and GPU are pretty spot-on, the question about the latest Windows version is a bit odd. It only says that Windows 11 is the newest release without mentioning any specific versions like 24H2 or 23H2. Although Windows 11 overall is indeed the newest Windows, its separate releases have separate lifecycles (18 months since the release date for regular customers). It would be nice if Microsoft mentioned that in the new FAQ section.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	If you want to try the updated "About" page in the settings app, do the following:
</p>

<p>

	Nvidia has a new graphics driver for download, and it's packed full of support for upcoming games, DLSS 4 in more games, ongoing bug fixes for the RTX 50 series graphics cards, and more.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	The upcoming The Sims rival inZOI is receiving day-one support with the driver. Interestingly, players will find an experimental 'Nvidia ACE autonomous game characters' setting in-game, letting its NPCs turn "smart" using "higher levels of artificial intelligence."

Interestingly, this build includes an undocumented new menu in the Settings app called "Actions," which appears to let users control which apps can show as suggested actions across the OS.

<p>

The new Actions area in Settings gives an overview of all the apps that are tapping into this experience, and let the user turn them on or off at will.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	The new area also gives a handy overview of which apps can do what. Right now, the only apps that appear are Paint and Photos, and it lists what each app is capable of.

					I also understand that Microsoft is planning to introduce more "proactive" Copilot features across the Windows 11 interface this year. These features will let the AI assistant suggest more actions, tasks, and activities based on what you're currently working on across different OS surfaces, not just in Click To Do.

					With that in mind, it makes sense that Microsoft is adding a settings menu in the Windows Settings app that will let you configure which apps appear as suggested actions. This is especially true if third-party apps can also tap into this proactive Copilot experience.

	Today is a good day for Vivaldi users. This highly customizable and powerful browser has just been updated to version 7.2, with a major focus on performance and personalization.

<blockquote class="QuoteNewsStyle">

		Vivaldi 7.2 is here, delivering a faster, smarter, and more independent browsing experience. HOWEVER, This update isn’t just about better browsing, it’s about fighting for a web that works for people, not corporations. At a time when digital power is increasingly concentrated in the hands of a few tech giants, Vivaldi stands firm as a European alternative, championing choice, privacy, and customization.

</blockquote>

<p>
	Vivaldi 7.2 delivers several performance updates that make browsing the internet faster. For starters, there is now a faster and smarter address bar. Vivaldi says the new version is "fine-tuned for speed and precision," resulting in the browser showing you search results, bookmarks, browsing history, and other data much faster than before while still allowing you to customize the bar.

<p>
	Next, we have faster page loading thanks to improved and optimized connection handling. Vivaldi promises that after this update, some users will have their pages loading twice as fast.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	Vivaldi 7.2 also has some improvements for keyboard shortcuts. Now, users can make a list of priority shortcuts to override any website-specific controls. The browser's integrated Mail and Calendar now lets you create calendar events from emails and web pages. Just right-click anything and select Add to Calendar &gt; Event.

<p>
	Other changes in Vivaldi 7.2 include a new currency widget on the Dashboard, workspace support for Quick Commands, and the ability to reorder mail accounts for extra customization.

<p>
	Besides listing all the changes and improvements in Vivaldi 7.2, developers <a href="https://vivaldi.com/press/embargoed/vivaldi-7-2-speedy-smart-and-built-for-power-users/" rel="external nofollow">reminded users</a> that in the world of tech monopoly with its dangers of over-reliance on dominant players, Vivaldi offers a privacy-focused, personalized browser. This comes right after Mozilla, another privacy-focused company, <a href="https://www.neowin.net/news/mozilla-shifts-its-stance-on-user-data-protection-says-sale-of-data-is-broadly-defined/" rel="external nofollow">changed its privacy policy regarding user data</a>.
