	If you have an iPhone or iPad, you can now download Vivaldi 7.1 from the App Store. Version 7.1 for iOS, released today, introduces several new features powered by Chromium 132.0.6834.110. Here's a breakdown of what's new:
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	First, Vivaldi Translate, which launched in June 2021 with Vivaldi 4.0, is finally coming to iOS. Vivaldi Translate is built on Lingvanex, a company that offers AI tools for translating text, documents, and speech across more than 100 languages. When you update to 7.1, you'll find the translate icon right next to the reload button.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	There's also an improved Speed Dial that features sections for popular sites and those you visit frequently. Speaking of improvements, version 7.1 brings a quicker way to save your favorite sites. Now, in the context menu, there's a new "Add page to..." option, allowing you to save a page to your device home screen, Start Page, Bookmarks, or Reading List.
</p>

<figure class="image image--expandable">
	<img alt="A screenshot of the feature" class="ipsImage" height="405" width="720" src="https://cdn.neowin.com/news/images/uploaded/2025/01/1738240637_71_ios_speed_dial_dialog.jpg">
</figure>

<p>
	Before 7.1, the default search engine for Vivaldi on iOS was Bing, but that is changing. According to Vivaldi:
</p>

<p>

</p>

<blockquote class="QuoteNewsStyle">
	<p>
		To keep Vivaldi free and independent, we’ve made a small but important update: changing some of our default search engines. These adjustments are part of our efforts to support the ongoing development of the browser. Our partner search engines that generate revenue for us are Startpage, Ecosia, DuckDuckGo, and Qwant. As part of this setup, we also made changes to ensure that ad attribution works correctly. This is needed for us to be paid by our partners.
	</p>
</blockquote>

<p>
	Vivaldi on iOS now supports sharing tabs to another synced device with a feature called "Send Tab to Device," similar to what's <a href="https://www.neowin.net/news/vivaldi-71-is-out-with-new-widget-improved-tab-sync-and-more/" rel="external nofollow" target="_blank">available in 7.1 on Desktop</a>. Other updates include Paste and Go/Search, which lets you navigate or search directly from your clipboard without extra steps.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	Custom Zoom Levels make reading on your phone or tablet more comfortable by allowing you to set a preferred zoom level for every page. You can now share links straight from the Address Bar’s context menu without disrupting your workflow.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	Sync settings have also improved, letting you rename devices to stay organized. Additionally, Search Suggestion Settings give you more control over how suggestions appear in the Address Bar. You can find out more on the <a href="https://vivaldi.com/blog/vivaldi-on-ios-7-1/" rel="external nofollow" target="_blank">Vivaldi Blog</a>.

<p>
	Vodafone recently announced that they have achieved a groundbreaking feat by making the world's first satellite video call from a remote area with no network coverage. The most remarkable aspect of this achievement is that it did not require a specialized smartphone. Instead, the world's first satellite video call was made on a regular smartphone. This innovation will allow people in remote areas and locations where the network coverage is jumpy to make video calls, access the internet, and use messaging services, without needing specialized equipment.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	Vodafone's engineer, Rowan Chesmer, was the one who made the world's first satellite video call to Margherita Della Valle, Vodafone Group CEO, from a remote mountainous location of Wales—a place that has never seen mobile broadband before. The call was made possible thanks to Vodafone's partnership with AST SpaceMobile, a company that operates BlueBird satellites that relay signals from space to Vodafone's newly built space-to-land gateway. The service replicates the experience of existing 4G and 5G mobile networks.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	Margherita Della Valle <a href="https://www.vodafone.com/news/technology/vodafone-makes-historic-satellite-video-call-from-a-smartphone" rel="external nofollow">said</a>:
</p>

<p>

</p>

<blockquote class="QuoteNewsStyle">

		Vodafone’s job is to get everyone connected, no matter where they are. Our advanced European 5G network will now be complemented with cutting-edge satellite technology. We are bringing customers the best network and connecting people who have never had access to mobile communications before. This will help to close the digital divide, supporting people from all corners of Europe to keep in touch with family and friends, or work, as well as ensuring reliable rural connectivity in an emergency.
	</p>
</blockquote>

<p>
	Tim Peeke, the first British astronaut to visit the International Space Station in 2015 and conduct a spacewalk, appreciated Vodafone's achievement and also highlighted the importance of being able to see family and friends from remote locations.

<p>
	Vodafone is planning to roll out the technology for its users across Europe sometime between late 2025 and 2026. Up until now, only Apple iPhones (starting with iPhone 14) have been <a href="https://www.neowin.net/news/t-mobile-silently-adds-support-for-starlinks-satellite-network-on-the-iphone/" rel="external nofollow">able to communicate with satellites</a> for emergency text services. Recently, <a href="https://www.neowin.net/news/good-news-for-t-mobile-samsung-users-satellite-networks-now-appears-in-settings/" rel="external nofollow">T-Mobile US</a> and Elon Musk's SpaceX also started testing Starlink satellites to offer text services on <a href="https://www.neowin.net/news/samsung-has-left-it-to-the-carriers-to-offer-satellite-sos-service-on-the-galaxy-s25-series/" rel="external nofollow">Android phones from Samsung</a> and Google.

	After its launch, the Galaxy S25 series made a lot of headlines, with some praising the new set of AI features and others commending its design and cameras, especially on the Galaxy S25 Ultra. Amidst this excitement, a report revealed that the Galaxy S25 Ultra's S-Pen doesn't support Bluetooth functionality. That means the Galaxy S25 Ultra users won't be able to use air gestures, launch apps, control music, scroll through photos, or use the S-Pen as a camera remote shutter button.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	Samsung said that not many were using these features of the S-Pen, which led to the decision to drop the Bluetooth functionality from the S-Pen. Besides, the company also cited cost-cutting as a reason, though this move did not result in a price reduction—the base model costs the same as the previous year's Galaxy S24 Ultra.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	Recently, Samsung posted a story on its own <a href="https://insights.samsung.com/2025/01/24/how-to-boost-productivity-with-the-s-pen-on-your-galaxy-s25-ultra/" rel="external nofollow">Insights blog</a>, which created an atmosphere of confusion. Notably, the blog mentioned that users could purchase a Bluetooth S-Pen separately and use it with Galaxy S25 Ultra to enjoy all of the lost Bluetooth functionalities. The blog noted:
</p>

<p>

</p>

<blockquote class="QuoteNewsStyle">
	<p>
		The Bluetooth-enabled S Pen (now sold separately) acts as a remote control within select apps to help maximize productivity. Simply press the button on the side of the pen to activate the Air Actions menu and view all the available gestures.
	</p>
</blockquote>

<p>
	Interestingly, an S-Pen with Bluetooth functionality for the Galaxy S25 Ultra was spotted <a href="https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B0DP729MXH?th=1&amp;tag=neowinuk-21" rel="external nofollow">on Amazon UK</a>. However, the same S-Pen wasn't available <a href="https://www.amazon.com/Samsung-Ergonomic-Command-Navigation-EJ-PS938BSEGUJ/dp/B0DQFLQHHR?th=1&amp;tag=neowinnet-20" rel="external nofollow">on the Amazon US website</a>.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	Now, Samsung has officially confirmed to <a href="https://www.androidauthority.com/s25-ultra-s-pen-3520494/" rel="external nofollow">Android Authority</a> that the blog post contained an error and that the Galaxy S25 Ultra doesn't support Bluetooth S-Pen interactions, regardless of the S-Pen model used, including the S-Pen Pro. The blog has now been updated, with misleading section 7 removed altogether.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	While most air gesture features were rarely used, the camera remote control was a handy option, especially when taking a group selfie. Thankfully, there are other ways you can take photos remotely with your Galaxy S25 Ultra, which we have detailed <a href="https://www.neowin.net/news/since-the-samsung-galaxy-s25-ultras-s-pen-goes-basic-how-to-take-photos-remotely/" rel="external nofollow">in this post</a>. It's been four months since Apple released the iOS 18 software update for <a href="https://www.neowin.net/news/ios-18-supported-devices-will-my-iphone-get-the-next-ios-upgrade/" rel="external nofollow">iPhone Xs and later</a>. The new iOS update brought some useful features to the iPhones, including the <a href="https://www.neowin.net/news/the-settings-app-on-apple-ios-18-has-some-visible-differences/" rel="external nofollow">new "Apps" page</a>, <a href="https://www.neowin.net/guides/how-to-set-up-and-use-eye-tracking-on-your-iphone-running-ios-18/" rel="external nofollow">Eye Tracking</a>, <a href="https://www.neowin.net/guides/this-ios-18-feature-claims-to-reduce-motion-sickness-heres-how-to-use-it/" rel="external nofollow">Vehicle Motion Cues</a>, <a href="https://www.neowin.net/guides/how-to-set-up-and-use-home-screen-dark-mode-on-ios-18/" rel="external nofollow">dark mode for icons</a>, <a href="https://www.neowin.net/guides/how-to-delete-long-videos-from-icloud-photos-on-iphone/" rel="external nofollow">delete large files</a>, and the ability to <a href="https://www.neowin.net/guides/how-to-lock-and-hide-your-iphone-apps-on-ios-18/" rel="external nofollow">lock and hide iOS 18 apps</a>.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	Given Apple's tight control over the iPhone's software development, it has been a trend over the years that iOS updates are quick to reach the majority of iPhones just months after release. This year's case is also nothing different.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	Apple has released the updated market share numbers for iOS 18, which give an idea of what percentage of iPhones are running the latest software update. Here are some key takeaways:
</p>

<p>

</p>

<ul>
	<li>
		76% of all devices (including iPhone 14/15/16 series) released in the last four years run iOS 18.
	</li>
	<li>
		68% of all devices run iOS 18.
	</li>
</ul>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	The previous version, iOS 17, still has a double-digit device usage share, with over 19% of all devices launched in the last four years and overall running iOS 17. Apple mentions that the usage share is "measured by devices that transacted on the App Store on January 21, 2025."
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	We can compare these numbers with iOS 17's usage share from last year when <a href="https://www.neowin.net/news/apple-says-ios-17-is-installed-on-66-of-iphones-ipados-17-on-53-of-ipads/" rel="external nofollow">Apple reported</a> "76% of all devices introduced in the last four years use iOS 17" and "66% of all devices use iOS 17."
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	It's worth noting that the previous numbers were based on "devices that transacted on the App Store on February 4, 2024." In other words, iOS 18 has taken a 2% lead despite the numbers being revealed a few weeks earlier.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	Apple has also <a href="https://developer.apple.com/support/app-store/" rel="external nofollow">shared</a> market share data for iPadOS 18 as well and here are some takeaways:
</p>

<p>

</p>

<ul>
	<li>
		63% of all devices introduced in the last four years run iPadOS 18.
	</li>
	<li>
		53% of all devices run iPadOS 18.
	</li>
</ul>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	The numbers show that the market share of iPadOS 18 isn't as high as its iPhone counterpart. Adding to that is the fact that about 28% of all iPads are still running the iPadOS 17 update from 2024.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	<a href="https://www.neowin.net/news/ios-16-now-runs-on-90-of-iphones-released-in-the-last-four-years/" rel="external nofollow">Past numbers suggest</a> that iOS updates usually achieve an adoption rate of about 90% around June every year. So, we'll have to wait see how things unfold for iOS 18 in the coming months. Meanwhile, Apple continues to build new features for its devices, and the iOS 18.3 update is due for a release.

	Kiwi Browser, the fully open-source web browser for Android, is packing things up and leaving the tech world. Its founder, Arnaud Granal, announced the browser's departure on the official Discord server and <a href="https://github.com/kiwibrowser/src.next" rel="external nofollow">GitHub repo</a>.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	"Kiwi Browser is now archived. It will no longer be maintained after January 2025," Granal <a href="https://discord.com/channels/494814211579445270/494814211579445274/1332000330522558525" rel="external nofollow">said on Discord</a>. The browser had been pulled from the Google Play Store by the time of writing, but its <a href="https://github.com/kiwibrowser/src.next/releases/tag/12867802748" rel="external nofollow">latest version</a> is available on GitHub to download.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	"Browsers are very complex to maintain and they require long commitment, I started Kiwi as a side-project, and it's almost 7 years now. I just wanted extensions on mobile for myself," Granal said in a <a href="https://discord.com/channels/494814211579445270/494814211579445274/1332050260876329080" rel="external nofollow">separate message</a>.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	"The "problem" is that Kiwi gets 1 million downloads per month, that's "too much", so the users accumulate over time, and they all want something new and updates (which is reasonable)."
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	The web browser's demise comes after over half a decade of existence. Turning back a few pages in Kiwi's history reveals the Chromium-based Android web browser was first launched in April 2018 and added support for Chrome extensions in April 2019. However, it was in April 2020 that Kiwi Browser became fully open-source.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	In addition to supporting Chrome extensions, the browser offered features like Night Mode, built-in ad blocking, performance improvements, support for easy one-handed usage, and an optional bottom address bar.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	"The extensions code for Kiwi Browser has now been integrated into Microsoft Edge Canary," Granal added. Those interested can follow the instructions laid out by the founder to install the extensions on Edge Canary for Android:
</p>

<p>

</p>

<blockquote class="QuoteNewsStyle">
	<p>
		To install extensions on Microsoft Edge Canary:
	</p>

	<p>

	</p>

	<ol>
		<li>
			Open Microsoft Edge Canary and go to Settings &gt; About Microsoft Edge.
		</li>
		<li>
			Tap the Edge build number (e.g., xx.0.2487.0) 5 times to enable Developer Options.
		</li>
		<li>
			In Developer Options, select Extension install by id.
		</li>
	</ol>

	<p>

	</p>

	<p>
		To find the extension ID:
	</p>

	<p>

	</p>

	<ol>
		<li>
			Open the Microsoft Edge Web Store.
		</li>
		<li>
			Locate and select the desired extension.
		</li>
		<li>
			Copy the ID from the URL (e.g., for Bitwarden, the ID is jbkfoedolllekgbhcbcoahefnbanhhlh from the URL ending).
		</li>
		<li>
			Paste the extension ID into the Extension install by id field.
		</li>
		<li>
			The extension will install.
		</li>
	</ol>
</blockquote>

<p>
	You can continue to use the latest Kiwi Browser installation until it works. The founder has suggested looking for alternatives such as Mozilla Firefox, Vivaldi, and Edge Canary. An out-of-date web browser will lack new features and be vulnerable to unwelcome security risks.
</p>

	Samsung teased the slim model of the Galaxy S25 series during the closing moments of the Unpacked event on January 22. The company confirmed that the phone is <a href="https://www.neowin.net/news/samsungs-slim-phone-is-called-the-galaxy-s25-edge-may-be-priced-below-1299/" rel="external nofollow">called Galaxy S25 Edge</a> and not Galaxy S25 Slim or Galaxy S25 SE. Bloomberg's Mark Gurman also reported that the phone may be priced below $1,299, which is the base price of the Galaxy S25 Ultra. <a href="https://www.neowin.net/news/real-life-images-of-the-samsung-galaxy-s25-edge-look-different-than-leaked-images/" rel="external nofollow">Hands-on images of the Galaxy S25 Edge</a> also revealed that previously leaked renders of the device were inaccurate, as the phone rocks a completely different rear camera module.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	While no details about specifications were disclosed, Chinese CQC certification has now spilled the beans about the battery and charger capacity of the phone, and spoiler alert: the specs are disappointing. According to the CQC certification, the Galaxy S25 Edge has a rated <a href="https://webdata.cqccms.com.cn/webdata/query/CCCCerti.do" rel="external nofollow">battery capacity of 3,786mAh</a>, which could be marketed as 3,900mAh. Earlier it was rumored that the Galaxy S25 Edge may feature a <a href="https://www.neowin.net/news/leaks-suggest-the-samsung-galaxy-s25-slim-will-be-a-thin-but-powerful-smartphone/" rel="external nofollow">battery between 4,700-5,000mAh range</a>, but later speculation <a href="https://m.weibo.cn/detail/5123200370083433" rel="external nofollow">suggested</a> a range of 3,000-4,000mAh, which has now proven correct.
</p>

<p>

</p>

	<img alt="Galaxy S25 Edge battery and charger" class="ipsImage" height="405" width="720" src="https://cdn.neowin.com/news/images/uploaded/2025/01/1737703763_galaxy_s25_edge_battery.jpg">
</figure>

<p>
	Additionally, the CQC certification also revealed that the device will <a href="https://webdata.cqccms.com.cn/webdata/query/CCCCerti.do" rel="external nofollow">support 25W fast wired charging—</a>a downgrade from the 45W fast wired charging support available on other Galaxy S25 models.
</p>

</figure>

<p>
	With these specifications, it remains to be seen how Samsung is going to justify the high price tag, as the slimness of the phone could be a tough selling point, especially given that other specs are comparable to the Galaxy S25 and S25+.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	It was earlier rumored that the Galaxy S25 Edge could feature a triple camera setup with <a href="https://www.neowin.net/news/leaks-suggest-the-samsung-galaxy-s25-slim-will-be-a-thin-but-powerful-smartphone/" rel="external nofollow">a 200MP primary camera</a>, 50MP ultrawide, and 50MP 3.5x telephoto camera. However, now that the phone is officially revealed to feature a dual camera setup, it would be interesting to see which of the three cameras will make it to the final production model.
</p>

	In a<a href="https://store.google.com/intl/en/ideas/articles/gemini-live-updates/#footnote-6" rel="external nofollow"> recent announcement</a>, Google revealed updates to Gemini coming to Pixel devices. First, Google introduced Gemini Live's ability to analyze and answer questions about various media, including images, files, and videos on Pixel. For example, you could watch a YouTube video and discuss it with Gemini Live.
</p>

<figure class="image image--expandable">
	<img alt="A screenshot of the feature" class="ipsImage" height="720" width="720" src="https://cdn.neowin.com/news/images/uploaded/2025/01/1737613357_gemini.jpg">
</figure>

<p>
	Gemini Live is Google's response to OpenAI's ChatGPT Advanced Voice Mode. Launched in August 2024, it allows hands-free conversations with Gemini, even when your phone is locked or the app is running in the background. Google confirmed that the latest Gemini update will be available on Pixel 9 series phones, with plans to expand to Pixel 6 and later models.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	Another update, Gemini Deep Research, is also coming to Pixel. First introduced in December 2024 as part of the Gemini 2.0 update, it was initially available on the web<a href="https://www.neowin.net/news/deep-research-in-gemini-is-now-available-in-40-more-languages/" rel="external nofollow"> exclusively to Gemini Advanced subscribers in English</a>.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	Now, Google is bringing it to mobile, with Pixel devices getting it first. Deep Research helps users browse through hundreds of websites to generate a report with key findings, complete with links to original sources for further learning.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	Gemini Deep Research will be available to Advanced subscribers on Pixel in the coming days. If you own a Pixel 9 Pro, you’ll get a 12-month subscription to Gemini Advanced, which includes Deep Research. To be eligible for this offer, you must purchase and activate a Pixel 9 Pro, Pixel 9 Pro XL, or Pixel 9 Pro Fold between August 7, 2024, and October 31, 2025, at 11:59 p.m. PT.

	</div>
</div>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	Finally, Google announced an update for Gemini: Circle to Search with AI Overviews. Circle to Search allows you to quickly search the web by circling, scribbling, or tapping on content displayed on your screen. AI Overviews provide AI-generated summaries of search topics, integrated into Google Search, though there were <a href="https://www.neowin.net/news/google-explains-why-ai-overviews-wants-you-to-glue-cheese-to-your-pizza/" rel="external nofollow">some hiccups</a> when it was <a href="https://www.neowin.net/news/googles-new-ai-overviews-in-search-are-already-generating-major-factual-errors/" rel="external nofollow">first introduced</a>.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	With Gemini's latest update for Pixel, circling or tapping content on your screen will now display an AI overview for that content. For example, circling an image of a cat could pull up a description of the highlighted content.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	Additionally, Circle to Search can recognize content like phone numbers, URLs, and email addresses, allowing you to take action, such as making a call, navigating to a URL, or composing an email.

	This year, Samsung increased the RAM in its <a href="https://www.neowin.net/news/samsung-launches-galaxy-s25-s25-and-s25-ultra-smartphones/" rel="external nofollow">Galaxy S25 series</a>, with all models starting at 12GB. While the <a href="https://www.neowin.net/news/specs-appeal-comparing-samsung-galaxy-s25-with-s24-and-s23-2/" rel="external nofollow">Galaxy S25</a>, <a href="https://www.neowin.net/news/specs-appeal-comparing-samsung-galaxy-s25-with-s24-and-s23/" rel="external nofollow">Galaxy S25+</a>, and <a href="https://www.neowin.net/news/specs-appeal-comparing-galaxy-s25-ultra-with-s24-ultra-and-s23-ultra/" rel="external nofollow">Galaxy S25 Ultra</a> all come with a single 12GB RAM variant, there are different storage options to choose from. However, official information coming from Samsung Korea, is that the Galaxy S25 Ultra 16GB RAM model will only be exclusive to Korea. Interestingly, the <a href="https://www.samsung.com.cn/smartphones/galaxy-s25-ultra/buy/" rel="external nofollow">official Chinese website</a> also lists the 16GB/1TB model.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	As per Samsung's official newsroom <a href="https://news.samsung.com/kr/%ec%82%bc%ec%84%b1%ec%a0%84%ec%9e%90-%ea%b0%a4%eb%9f%ad%ec%8b%9c-s25-%ec%8b%9c%eb%a6%ac%ec%a6%88-%ec%82%ac%ec%a0%84-%ed%8c%90%eb%a7%a4-%ec%8b%9c%ec%9e%91" rel="external nofollow">post</a>, the 16GB RAM and 1TB storage variant of the Galaxy S25 Ultra will be available for purchase in South Korea through the company's website. This model will cost KRW2,249,500 (roughly $1,566) and will only be available in Titanium Jet Black color. However, on the Chinese official website, the 16GB model is available for ¥13,699 (roughly $1,881).
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	The Galaxy S25 series introduces several new <a href="https://www.neowin.net/news/heres-every-android-update-and-new-ai-features-coming-with-the-galaxy-s25-series/" rel="external nofollow">AI features and Android goodies</a>, to take the user experience to the next level. Samsung also mentioned that it decided to freeze the prices of the Galaxy S25 lineup, at least in the home country, to "lower the purchasing burden and focus on popularizing Galaxy AI so that more customers can experience the new Galaxy S25 Series."
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	Samsung also shared that the pre-sales for the Galaxy S25 series will run from January 24 to February 3, with the official launch set for February 7. During this period, interested buyers can also book the 16GB RAM variant of the Galaxy S25 Ultra.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	For now, when we checked the official <a href="https://www.samsung.com/us/smartphones/galaxy-s25-ultra/buy/galaxy-s25-ultra-512gb-unlocked-sm-s938uakexaa/" rel="external nofollow">Samsung US</a>, and <a href="https://www.samsung.com/in/smartphones/galaxy-s25-ultra/buy/" rel="external nofollow">Samsung India</a> websites, but did not find any news regarding the Galaxy S25 Ultra 16GB RAM model. It is unclear whether this 16GB RAM model will arrive in other countries or remain exclusive to South Korea and China. Meanwhile, Samsung also teased another addition to the Galaxy S25 series, <a href="https://www.neowin.net/news/samsungs-slim-phone-is-called-the-galaxy-s25-edge-may-be-priced-below-1299/" rel="external nofollow">the Galaxy S25 Edge</a>. It is expected to launch in the second half of this year and is rumored to cost under $1,300.

	The Samsung Galaxy S25 is this year's most affordable flagship smartphone from Samsung. Announced on January 22, the device offers a reasonably-sized display, a powerful new processor, and a few small tweaks. In this article, we take a look at how the new Galaxy S25 compares to its predecessors, the Galaxy S24 and the Galaxy S23.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	Finding the difference between the three devices is quite difficult, considering how little Samsung has changed in one year. The smartphone is powered by the new Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Elite for Galaxy, which boasts up to 40% better NPU performance for AI processing, up to 37% faster CPU, and up to 30% better GPU, with a few exclusive features like improved ray tracing. Besides, Samsung is now offering 12GB of RAM across all storage configurations—no more 8GB variants.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	You will also receive Wi-Fi 7 and Bluetooth 5.4 support, new colors, video recording in LOG, and slightly different camera rings.
</p>

<figure class="image image--expandable">
	<img alt="The Samsung Galaxy S25" class="ipsImage" height="405" width="720" src="https://cdn.neowin.com/news/images/uploaded/2025/01/1737589723_galaxy_s25.jpg">
</figure>

<p>
	Samsung is also adding more AI features to OneUI 7 (it is based on Android 15 with the promise of 7 OS upgrades). New features include Audio Eraser for noise removal in videos and improved Gemini interaction with Samsung, Google, and third-party apps. The latter lets you ask complex questions and request actions, like finding your sports team's schedule and adding it to your calendar.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	Other than that, the Galaxy S25 is almost identical to the Galaxy S24. The same display, the same cameras, the same battery, the same storage variants, the same charging speed, etc.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	Here are key changes summed up in a list:
</p>

<p>

</p>

<ul>
	<li>
		Newer and faster Snapdragon 8 Elite for Galaxy processor
	</li>
	<li>
		Wi-Fi 7 and Bluetooth 5.4 support
	</li>
	<li>
		New colors
	</li>
	<li>
		12GB of RAM in all configurations
	</li>
	<li>
		Slightly different camera design
	</li>
	<li>
		Video recording in LOG
	</li>
</ul>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	And here is a more detailed spec-by-spec comparison with key changes highlighted in bold:

	The Samsung Galaxy S25+, which was <a href="https://www.neowin.net/news/samsung-launches-galaxy-s25-s25-and-s25-ultra-smartphones/" rel="external nofollow">announced at a special event on January 22</a>, sits right between the "entry-level" flagship from Samsung and the top-of-the-line Galaxy S25 Ultra (check out <a href="https://www.neowin.net/news/specs-appeal-comparing-galaxy-s25-ultra-with-s24-ultra-and-s23-ultra/" rel="external nofollow">this article</a> to learn more about its specs and see how it compares to the previous generations). However, unlike the more premium sibling, which has some visual changes over the Galaxy S24 Ultra, this year's "plus" model is nearly identical to the Galaxy S24+ and Galaxy S23+. To help you better understand what is going on, here is our detailed spec-by-spec comparison. Spoiler: there are very few changes.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	If you want to buy the Galaxy S25+, you will have a hard time finding many differences between the device and its predecessors. Besides a newer and more powerful processor (Samsung promises up to 40% better NPU, up to 37% faster CPU, and up to 30% better GPU, with a few exclusive features like improved ray tracing), you get Wi-Fi 7 and Bluetooth 5.4 support, new colors, video recording in LOG, and slightly different camera rings. Samsung also touts a reworked heat dissipation system that is more efficient thanks to a 40% larger vapor chamber.

</figure>

<p>
	Samsung is also bringing more AI-powered features to OneUI 7, which is based on Android 15, with the promise of 7 OS upgrades. New features include Audio Eraser for noise removal in videos and improved Gemini interaction with Samsung, Google, and third-party apps. The latter lets you ask complex questions and request actions, like finding your sports team's schedule and adding it to your calendar.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	Here are key changes summed up in a list:
</p>

<p>

</p>

<ul>
	<li>
		Newer and faster Snapdragon 8 Elite for Galaxy processor
	</li>
	<li>
		Wi-Fi 7 and Bluetooth 5.4 support
	</li>
	<li>
		New colors
	</li>
	<li>
		Slightly different camera design
	</li>
	<li>
		Video recording in LOG
	</li>
</ul>

	Samsung has officially unveiled its next-generation flagship smartphones. <a href="https://www.neowin.net/news/samsung-launches-galaxy-s25-s25-and-s25-ultra-smartphones/" rel="external nofollow">The Galaxy S25 lineup</a> is here, and it offers three devices at different price points and different features: the Galaxy S25, the Galaxy S25 Plus, and the Galaxy S25 Ultra. In this article, we compare the Galaxy S25 Ultra to its previous generations, the Galaxy S24 Ultra and the Galaxy S23 Ultra.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	The Galaxy S25 Ultra is your typical "spec bump" upgrade, with Samsung following the beaten path and sticking to the formula that is working. Therefore, the smartphone does not offer many major changes over its predecessor. You get new colors, a beefier processor with more horsepower (up to 40% better NPU, up to 37% faster CPU, and up to 30% better GPU), a slightly larger display with rounded corners and tougher glass, and a few tweaks here and there.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	Besides upgrading some aspects of the smartphone, like a higher-resolution sensor for the ultra-wide camera and video recording in LOG, Samsung took away some stuff. The S-Pen no longer features Bluetooth connectivity and air gestures, which means you can no longer use it, say, for remote camera controls.

	We've heard so many rumors about Samsung's slim phone, only to learn that it isn't called the Galaxy S25 Slim or <a href="https://www.neowin.net/news/galaxy-s25-slim-may-drop-slim-branding-and-skip-availability-at-us-carriers/" rel="external nofollow">the Galaxy S25 Special Edition (SE)</a>. During the recently concluded Unpacked event, Samsung officially teased its slim phone, called the Galaxy S25 Edge, alongside its <a href="https://www.neowin.net/news/heres-every-android-update-and-new-ai-features-coming-with-the-galaxy-s25-series/" rel="external nofollow">three Galaxy S25 siblings</a>—Galaxy S25, Galaxy S25+ and the Galaxy S25 Ultra.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	With the teaser, Samsung confirmed that the fourth Galaxy S25 model will be called the Galaxy S25 Edge. If you are a Samsung fan, you will likely recall the iconic Galaxy S6 Edge, Galaxy S7 Edge and even the Note Edge phones. It seems like Samsung has revived this naming scheme for its latest innovative product.
</p>

<figure class="image image--expandable">
	<img alt="Galaxy S25 Edge teaser" class="ipsImage" height="405" width="720" src="https://cdn.neowin.com/news/images/uploaded/2025/01/1737576487_galaxy_s25_edge_internals.jpg">
</figure>

<p>
	While Samsung did not reveal much about the Galaxy S25 Edge, the phone did appear quite thin in the teaser.

</figure>

<p>
	The phone follow the same design language as the other Samsung Galaxy S25 series phones and features a triple-camera setup. Although Samsung did not reveal any detail about the Galaxy S25 Edge, Bloomberg's Mark Gurman came to the rescue and shared some <a href="https://x.com/markgurman/status/1882143464634401041" rel="external nofollow">details</a> about the phone on social media platform X (formerly Twitter).
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	According to Gurman, the Galaxy S25 Edge will launch in the first half of this year. Unlike previous rumors that suggested that the Galaxy S25 Edge (previously called the Galaxy S25 Slim) <a href="https://www.neowin.net/news/samsung-galaxy-s25-slim-tipped-to-launch-in-39-countries-but-not-it-the-us/" rel="external nofollow">will not launch in the US</a>, Gurman claimed that the phone will indeed launch in the US. Additionally, Gurman said that the phone will be priced below the $1,299 mark of the Galaxy S25 Ultra.

	The Unpacked event introduced the <a href="https://www.neowin.net/news/samsung-launches-galaxy-s25-s25-and-s25-ultra-smartphones/" rel="external nofollow">Samsung Galaxy S25 series</a>, showcasing not only upgraded specs and hardware, like the Galaxy S25 Ultra's <a href="https://www.neowin.net/news/samsung-galaxy-s25-ultra-is-the-first-device-to-come-with-corning-gorilla-armor-2-protection/" rel="external nofollow">Gorilla Armor 2 protection</a>, but also new software features made possible by a collaboration between Samsung and Google. Both companies have loaded the Galaxy S25 series with AI features aimed to enhance user experience. Here's a closer look at all the new Android updates and AI features the Galaxy S25 series has on offer:
</p>

<h3>
	1. Gemini replaces Bixby as the default personal assistant
</h3>

<p>
	Gemini has taken center stage on the Galaxy S25 series. With the Galaxy S25 series, Samsung has replaced Bixby with Google Gemini, which is accessible with just a press of the side button. Users can activate Gemini for contextual help, which is tailored to offer more information about what's on the screen.
</p>

<figure class="image image--expandable">
	<img alt="Gemini Live" class="ipsImage" height="458" width="720" src="https://cdn.neowin.com/news/images/uploaded/2025/01/1737574205_gemini_live.jpg">
</figure>

<p>
	Gemini extensions now include Samsung apps such as Reminder, Calendar, Notes, and Clock, in addition to existing integrations with Google Maps, YouTube, Google Messages, Spotify, and more. This allows users to take multiple actions using Gemini AI across apps and services.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	Google is also adding Gemini Live to the Galaxy S25 series, which acts as a conversational AI tool offering real-time spoken responses. Users will be able to upload photos, files, and YouTube videos and interact with Gemini for detailed insights on the content.
</p>

<h3>
	2. Real-time updates with Now Bar
</h3>

<p>
	Galaxy S25 series's "Now Bar" brings live updates from various apps and services right onto the lock screen. Sports fans will be able to keep track of live scores and stats of their favorite teams.
</p>

<figure class="image image--expandable">

</figure>

<p>
	Google Maps integration to the "Now Bar" offers glanceable navigation and reminders about when to leave for your appointment based on the current traffic situation.
</p>

<h3>
	3. Enhanced Circle to Search
</h3>

<p>
	Circle to Search, introduced last year, gets smarter this year with AI Overviews on the Galaxy S25 series. Users can circle an image and get access to information and related links instantly.
</p>

<figure class="image image--expandable">
	<img alt="Galaxy S25 series AI features and Android updates" class="ipsImage" height="572" width="720" src="https://cdn.neowin.com/news/images/uploaded/2025/01/1737573891_circle_to_search.jpg">
</figure>

<p>
	The enhanced Circle to Search also brings one-tap actions. It can automatically identify phone numbers, email addresses, or website links on the screen. Tapping on the chip lets users call, email, or visit a website directly.
</p>

<h3>
	4. Improved hearing aid and braille display experiences
</h3>

<p>
	The Samsung Galaxy S25 series offers enhanced support for users with hearing and vision impairments. <a href="https://blog.google/feed/samsung-unpacked-hearing-aid-talkback-updates/" rel="external nofollow">LE Audio</a> enables hands-free calling, personalized audio adjustments, and low-latency connection to hearing aids from GN Hearing and Oticon Intent when paired with Galaxy S25 series phones.

</figure>

<p>
	Additionally, TalkBack 15 now supports braille displays using a HID Bluetooth connection. Samsung has said that in the coming weeks, TalkBack on the Galaxy S25 series will also provide more detailed image descriptions powered by Gemini.
</p>

<h3>
	5. Galaxy Watch for Kids experience
</h3>

<p>
	Parents can now manage Galaxy Watch7 LTE smartwatches for kids with the Galaxy Watch for Kids experience through the Google Family Link. They can approve contacts, track locations, and limit distractions during school hours.
</p>

	Samsung has kicked off the year's first Galaxy Unpacked event and renewed its flagship S series. The company has launched the new Galaxy S25, S25+, and S25 Ultra smartphones on the market. However, there isn't much detail about the <a href="https://www.neowin.net/news/leaks-suggest-the-samsung-galaxy-s25-slim-will-be-a-thin-but-powerful-smartphone/" rel="external nofollow">Galaxy S25 "Slim" variant</a> that was previously rumored to arrive, <a href="https://www.neowin.net/news/samsungs-slim-phone-is-called-the-galaxy-s25-edge-may-be-priced-below-1299/" rel="external nofollow">except a teaser</a>.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	A highlight of the new devices is they are powered by a customized chip known as "Snapdragon 8 Elite for Galaxy," which Samsung claims delivers a performance boost of 40% in NPU, 37% in CPU, and 30% in GPU compared to the previous generation.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	The chip powers the various on-device and cloud-powered AI features such as Generative Edit and handles AI processing for Samsung's image upscaling feature called ProScaler with a 40% improvement.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	Samsung has changed the heat dissipation structure with a 40% larger vapor chamber and a tailored thermal interface material (TIM) to deliver better thermal efficiency when handling AI workloads and other resource-hungry tasks.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	All three models feature a Dynamic AMOLED 2X Display with 120Hz refresh rate and run the Android 15-based One UI 7 software update out-of-the-box. Furthermore, the Galaxy S25 series gets support for features, including 5G, Wi-Fi 7, Wi-Fi Direct, Fast Wireless Charging 2.0, and Bluetooth 5.4.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	Samsung has included several new features in the AI department, such as Call Transcript, Writing Assist, Drawing Assist, Now Brief, and Now Bar. It has also added support for Google's Gemini chatbot and Circle to Search.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	The top-of-the-line Galaxy S25 Ultra features the new <a href="https://www.neowin.net/news/samsung-galaxy-s25-ultra-is-the-first-device-to-come-with-corning-gorilla-armor-2-protection/" rel="external nofollow">Corning Gorilla Armor 2</a> for improved drop protection and scratch resistance. Its 5,000 mAh battery can be pumped from zero to 65% in 30 minutes using Samsung's 45W adapter (sold separately). Meanwhile, the regular Galaxy S25 and Galaxy S25+ feature battery capacities of 4,000 mAh and 4,900 mAh, respectively.

	Samsung has just unveiled the Galaxy S25 series phones at the Unpacked event. Alongside the launch, Samsung also announced that the top-of-the-line flagship, the Galaxy S25 Ultra, is the first smartphone to feature Corning Gorilla Armor 2. This year, Samsung Electronics and Corning Incorporated have come up with a major upgrade, with the Gorilla Armor 2 featuring the world's first scratch-resistant, anti-reflective glass ceramic material designed for mobile devices.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	This new Gorilla Glass 2 protection not only enhances durability, but clarity as well. While it will be interesting to see how the Gorilla Glass 2 performs on famous YouTuber ZerryRigEverything's durability test, the Gorilla Armor 2 is said to offer superior resistance to scratches and also better anti-reflective properties. As a reminder, in the <a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nyxcO2vdcCg" rel="external nofollow">ZerryRigEverything durability test</a>, the Galaxy S24 Ultra featuring the Gorilla Glass Armor protection performed well compared to previous-gen S-series flagships. The device had deeper grooves at level 8 on the Mohs scale of hardness, compared to level 7 on previous devices with Gorilla Glass.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	It is expected that this year's Galaxy S25 Ultra will take the protection to the next level. David Velasquez, Vice President and General Manager, of Corning Gorilla Glass said, "Samsung and Corning have a long history of collaborating to provide consumers with the most advanced and innovative technologies. With Gorilla Armor 2, we offer consumers an unparalleled user experience with the first durable, optically advanced glass ceramic cover material ever used on a Galaxy mobile device."
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	<a href="https://www.corning.com/gorillaglass/worldwide/en/glass-types/corning-gorilla-armor-2.html" rel="external nofollow">Lab tests conducted by Corning</a> revealed that the Gorilla Armor 2 survived drops from heights of up to 2.2 meters onto a surface designed to mimic concrete. When competing materials were put up to the same test, they failed when dropped from just one meter. Samsung notes in the <a href="https://news.samsung.com/global/samsung-galaxy-s25-ultra-introduces-corning-gorilla-armor-2-the-industrys-first-anti-reflective-glass-ceramic-for-mobile-devices" rel="external nofollow">official blog</a>, that the Gorilla Armor 2 also delivered four times better scratch resistance compared to lithium-aluminosilicate glass material even with anti-reflective coatings.

					In this particular season of mobile innovation, hardware just isn’t as important as it once was. Take the iPhone 16; the launch event centered so much on software features that Apple called it “Glowed Up.” But when the phones shipped, those software features weren’t ready, and all we really had was a single new button. Did we need all that fanfare?
				</p>

				<p>

				</p>
			</div>

			<div>
				<p>
					Google’s on a slightly different trajectory since it completely <a href="https://www.theverge.com/22731034/google-pixel-6-pro-price-specs-features-release-date-hands-on" rel="external nofollow">overhauled its Pixel phone series</a> a few years ago. It’s still figuring out how to make a chipset that doesn’t <a href="https://www.theverge.com/2024/12/3/24312192/google-now-lets-you-see-just-how-hot-its-pixel-phones-are-running" rel="external nofollow">turn your phone into a hand warmer</a> if you do too many things or how exactly to make the camera bump go sideways. It feels like a lot of that has been settled in <a href="https://www.theverge.com/2024/8/13/24218879/googles-pixel-9-lineup-is-a-pro-show" rel="external nofollow">the Pixel 9 series</a>, but even that launch event was largely about software features and the many ways that Gemini now inhabits its phones.
				</p>

				<p>

				</p>
			</div>

			<div>
				<p>
					Samsung is far from alone here, but I think it’s fair to say that the Galaxy series is in a particularly stagnant phase. The S-series phones have basically looked and behaved the same for the <a href="https://www.theverge.com/2024/1/17/24040372/samsung-galaxy-s24-plus-price-release-date-specs-features-ai-artificial-intelligence" rel="external nofollow">past</a> <a href="https://www.theverge.com/23579106/samsung-galaxy-s23-plus-price-screen-battery-specs-hands-on" rel="external nofollow">few</a> <a href="https://www.theverge.com/2022/2/9/22922028/samsung-galaxy-s22-plus-price-features-specs" rel="external nofollow">years</a>, and all signs point to incredibly minor updates for the S25 series. Even the company’s folding phones have changed very little over the past couple of years. Apple didn’t give us much with the iPhone 16, but at <em>least</em> there was that new button.
				</p>

				<p>

				</p>
			</div>

			<div>
				<p>
					There’s one hopeful glimmer on the horizon: slim phones. Rumors indicate that <a href="https://www.theverge.com/2025/1/15/24344652/samsung-s25-slim-super-thin-design-leaked-renders" rel="external nofollow">Samsung might show one off at Unpacked</a>, and it seems like Apple might be gearing up to launch <a href="https://www.theverge.com/2025/1/12/24341960/apple-iphone-17-air-slim-foldable-wi-fi-cell-modem" rel="external nofollow">a slim iPhone 17</a> later this year. Is a phone that’s a couple of millimeters thinner anything? I don’t know, but it would look and feel fundamentally different than last year’s phone, which is more than I can say about many of the phones I tested in 2024. Samsung’s slim phone might not arrive until May, so it looks like we’d get a teaser tomorrow at best.
				</p>

				<p>

				</p>
			</div>

			<div>
				<p>
					So here’s what I think: let’s bring back S years. <a href="https://www.theverge.com/2015/9/22/9368415/apple-iphone-6s-iphone-6s-plus-review" rel="external nofollow">Remember the S year iPhones</a>? When Apple offered minor spec bumps but called it an iPhone 6S instead of an iPhone 6? Let’s do that again! Let’s have the big, flashy announcements, but not every year. Let’s save them for the big moments when the tech is ready and it looks or behaves fundamentally differently. Give us a reason to get excited, because the same old fanfare is getting a little stale.

					Samsung is set to announce its Galaxy S25 phones at its Galaxy Unpacked event tomorrow, January 22nd at 1PM ET. The event typically focuses on its next smartphones and software features, which you can bet includes lots of AI, but there should be some other things here and there, too. Here’s what we’re expecting and how you can watch along.

					It sounds like we’re getting more of the same with those phones, except for the S25 Ultra, which is expected to receive design tweaks like slightly rounder corners. That’s at least according to a preview in a set of leaked renders that <a href="https://www.theverge.com/2025/1/11/24341376/samsung-galaxy-s25-plus-ultra-renders-leaked" rel="external nofollow">hit the internet last week</a>. The company has said its 2025 Galaxy devices will have Qi2 wireless charging support, but it’s possible that only means they’re “Qi2 Ready” phones that <a href="https://www.theverge.com/2025/1/6/24337323/more-android-phones-qi2-ready-certification-wireless-magnetic-charging-ces-2025" rel="external nofollow">need a magnetic case</a> to get the full MagSafe-like experience.

					The phones will run Samsung’s tweaked version of Android 15, One UI 7, which launched <a href="https://www.theverge.com/2024/12/5/24313639/samsungs-one-ui-7-beta-is-available-today" rel="external nofollow">in beta last month</a> with features like an iPhone Dynamic Island-like “Now Bar,” a redesigned camera app, and the ability to <a href="https://www.theverge.com/2024/12/26/24329658/samsung-one-ui-7-disable-hdr-setting-bright-videos" rel="external nofollow">disable HDR content</a> to avoid being ambushed by overly-bright videos in your social feeds. The <a href="https://news.samsung.com/global/one-ui-7-beta-earns-rave-reviews-from-tech-enthusiasts" rel="external nofollow">company said</a> yesterday that One UI 7 “seamlessly integrates AI agents and multimodal capabilities into every touch point.” Expect more along those lines during the event.

				<p>

				</p>

			<div>
				<p>
					It seems unlikely Samsung will unveil a Galaxy S25 “Slim” phone. A recent leak suggested the phone <a href="https://www.theverge.com/2025/1/20/24348116/samsungs-galaxy-s25-slim-may-not-launch-in-the-us" rel="external nofollow">won’t launch in the US</a>. In an official announcement on its Korean newsroom, Samsung confirmed that the upcoming Galaxy S25 series, set to launch at the Unpacked event on January 22, will ship with Android 15-based One UI 7 out of the box. It was earlier tipped that Samsung may preload the Galaxy S25 series <a href="https://www.neowin.net/news/samsung-galaxy-s25-series-to-come-with-one-ui-71-out-of-the-box/" rel="external nofollow">with One UI 7.1</a>, offering additional features. However, subsequent reports indicated that Samsung would stick with One UI 7, which has now been officially confirmed.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	Samsung received an overwhelming response from its Galaxy users despite being late to commence the One UI 7 beta program. Unlike previous years, the One UI beta program this year was <a href="https://www.neowin.net/news/rumor-suggests-sad-news-for-samsung-fans-waiting-for-one-ui-7-beta-on-older-galaxy-phones/" rel="external nofollow">exclusive to the latest flagships—</a>the Galaxy S24 series—in select countries. The company further acknowledged that the first round of One UI 7 Beta saw more than double the number of participants compared to the One UI 6 Beta.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	This year, the company released only three major Beta updates to the Galaxy S24 series and is now all set to introduce the stable version of the software with the Galaxy S25 series. Samsung also <a href="https://news.samsung.com/kr/one-ui-7-%ea%b3%b5%ec%8b%9d-%eb%b2%84%ec%a0%84-%ea%b3%b5%ea%b0%9c-%ec%9e%84%eb%b0%95" rel="external nofollow">revealed </a>(Google-translated to English) that it "plans to supplement user feedback obtained through the beta program and install 'One UI 7' starting with the Galaxy S25 series to be released in the first quarter, and then sequentially apply it to existing Galaxy devices thereafter."
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	Beta users who got to experience One UI 7 praised the new "Now Bar" feature, which displays live activity on the lockscreen and gives you dynamic information based on the app that you are using. While the Now Bar was relatively limited to mostly Samsung apps, it is expected to support more third-party apps with the stable One UI 7 update. More <a href="https://www.neowin.net/news/these-ai-powered-video-features-tipped-to-be-a-part-of-the-galaxy-s25-series/" rel="external nofollow">AI-powered features</a> along with a <a href="https://www.neowin.net/news/mega-galaxy-s25-series-leak-reveals-gemini-integration-and-the-new-now-brief-feature/" rel="external nofollow">"Now Brief" feature</a> are also expected to be a part of the Galaxy S25 series.

	We are just hours away from the <a href="https://www.neowin.net/news/samsung-officially-reveals-galaxy-s25-launch-date-and-pre-reservation-benefits/" rel="external nofollow">official launch</a> of the Galaxy S25 series. Most details about the upcoming Samsung flagships have already been spilled by leaks and rumors. leaving only official confirmation. The <a href="https://www.neowin.net/news/take-a-look-at-the-purported-official-images-of-the-samsung-galaxy-s25-series/" rel="external nofollow">design of the Galaxy S25 series</a> will largely remain unchanged, especially the Galaxy S25 and S25+. The Galaxy S25 Ultra, however, will sport rounded corners, new camera rings on the back, minimum bezels, etc. But as we are getting closer to the launch some unseen features are now getting exposed.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	One such feature is the Galaxy S25 Ultra's ProScaler feature. Reputable leaker <a href="https://x.com/UniverseIce/status/1881553333644923345" rel="external nofollow">IceUniverse</a> shared an image of the ProScaler feature and explained the benefits of this Samsung-exclusive feature. According to the leaked promo material, ProScaler enhances the display by improving the colors, brightness, and sharpness when enabled.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	The promotional tagline reads, "Your images, clearer than ever," accompanied by the description: "Your images feel lifelike thanks to a brilliant display with ProScaler. Enjoy sharper visuals and brighter colors on a bigger screen that makes details pop."
</p>

<p>

</p>

<figure class="image image--expandable">
	<img alt="Galaxy S25 Ultra ProScaler" class="ipsImage" height="519" width="720" src="https://cdn.neowin.com/news/images/uploaded/2025/01/1737440239_galaxy_s25_ultra_proscaler.jpg">

		<em>image by <a href="https://x.com/UniverseIce/status/1881553333644923345" rel="external nofollow">IceUniverse</a></em>
	</figcaption>
</figure>

<p>
	In the image, Samsung compared the screen quality between the Galaxy S25 Ultra and S24 Ultra. The image also mentions that the ProScaler features require the screen resolution to be set to QHD+ and will not work with WQHD+ resolution.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	Samsung Galaxy S25 Ultra is expected to feature a 6.86-inch Dynamic AMOLED 2K display, with the LTPO panel said to be the M13 (Plus) OLED, better than the ones found on the Galaxy S24 series and the iPhone 16 series. The <a href="https://www.neowin.net/news/samsung-galaxy-s25-ultras-peak-brightness-may-remain-the-same-as-the-galaxy-s24-ultra/" rel="external nofollow">peak brightness</a> is speculated to remain the same as the Galaxy S24 series though. While it is not clear, the ProScaler feature should be available across the Galaxy S25 lineup, and it shouldn't be limited to the Galaxy S25 Ultra.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	The device will rock a 200MP primary sensor, and improved 50MP ultrawide, 50MP 5X telephoto, and 10MP 3x telephoto cameras. Plenty of <a href="https://www.neowin.net/news/these-ai-powered-video-features-tipped-to-be-a-part-of-the-galaxy-s25-series/" rel="external nofollow">new AI features</a> are also said to be a part of the Galaxy S25 Ultra. Samsung is also tipped to have <a href="https://www.neowin.net/news/mega-galaxy-s25-series-leak-reveals-gemini-integration-and-the-new-now-brief-feature/" rel="external nofollow">deeply integrated Gemini AI</a> into the device, enabling users to access it across multiple apps.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	For selfies, Samsung will continue to use the 12MP shooter. The phone is tipped to start with 12GB of RAM for the base model but will offer <a href="https://www.neowin.net/news/you-may-not-have-to-go-for-the-top-end-galaxy-s25-ultra-model-to-get-16gb-ram/" rel="external nofollow">16GB of RAM from the mid-variant</a>. There are also rumors that Samsung has <a href="https://www.neowin.net/news/samsung-galaxy-s25-ultras-s-pen-may-lose-one-key-functionality/" rel="external nofollow">removed the Bluetooth functionality</a> from the Galaxy S25 Ultra's S-Pen.

It was also rumored that the phone may skip availability at US carriers. In fact, new information indicates that the phone may entirely ignore the US market.

	Interestingly, a US variant of the Galaxy S25 Slim with model number SM-S937U previously appeared <a href="https://www.neowin.net/news/galaxy-s25-slim-with-snapdragon-8-elite-doesnt-score-impressive-numbers-on-geekbench/" rel="external nofollow">in a Geekbench</a>. It was running Snapdragon 8 Elite SoC but scored less impressive numbers. While the US launch of the device remains uncertain, its leaked <a href="https://www.neowin.net/news/leaks-suggest-the-samsung-galaxy-s25-slim-will-be-a-thin-but-powerful-smartphone/" rel="external nofollow">specs do look </a>promising. It is claimed to measure 6.4mm thin and could be powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Elite chipset paired with 12GB of RAM and feature a 6.66-inch display similar to the Galaxy S25+.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	The Galaxy S25 SE is tipped to feature a 200MP primary camera, along with a 50MP ultrawide and a 50MP 3.5x telephoto camera. While it was claimed to be juiced a batter between 4,700-5,000mAh, it was recently claimed that the battery could be much smaller—between 3,000mAh and 4,000mAh.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	Samsung may unveil the device at the upcoming <a href="https://www.neowin.net/news/samsung-officially-reveals-galaxy-s25-launch-date-and-pre-reservation-benefits/" rel="external nofollow">Unpacked event on January 22</a>, where the official details of the device will be revealed.

	Chinese smartphone brand OPPO has officially announced that the company's next foldable, touted as the world's thinnest folding phone, is <a href="https://www.neowin.net/news/the-worlds-thinnest-folding-phone-the-oppo-find-n5-is-coming-in-february/" rel="external nofollow">set to launch in February</a>. According to claims, the OPPO Find N5 could measure less than 4.4mm when unfolded, potentially surpassing the HONOR Magic V3 to become the thinnest folding flagship in the world. Now, another set of fresh images of the OPPO Find N5 has popped up online, offering insights into the thinness of the OnePlus Open 2, expected to be the global variant of the Find N5.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	Previously, the OPPO Find N5 was put up against a standard wooden pencil, which measures around 7-8mm, highlighting just how slim the device is. Cut to now, OPPO's product manager Zhou Yibao shared multiple images on the Chinese social media platform <a href="https://weibo.com/5313402944/Pako9ofOQ" rel="external nofollow">Weibo</a>, comparing the OPPO Find N5 with an iPhone. The images show that OPPO's foldable is almost half in size compared to an iPhone.

<p>
	In another image, the unfolded OPPO Find N5 is just as thick as four stacked credit cards or as thick as two 1 Yuan coins.
</p>

	</figcaption>
</figure>

<p>
	Based on the comparison, the OPPO Find N5 could be somewhere between 3.5mm and 4mm thin. The device seems to be just thick enough to integrate the USB-C port at the bottom. Zhou Yibao said in the post, "Thinness is not the limit of Find N5, but the limit of the charging port." Following OPPO Find N5's launch in February, OnePlus may introduce the global variant, the OnePlus Open 2, possibly at the <a href="https://www.mwcbarcelona.com/" rel="external nofollow">Mobile World Congress</a> (MWC) in March.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	Earlier leaks had revealed that the OnePlus Open 2 could feature a triple 50MP camera setup, tuned by Hasselblad. The foldable could be powered by the latest Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Elite chipset and is also tipped to feature the <a href="https://www.neowin.net/news/oneplus-open-2-rumored-to-pack-the-biggest-battery-on-any-foldable/" rel="external nofollow">biggest battery in any foldable to date</a>, along with <a href="https://www.neowin.net/news/oneplus-open-2-tipped-to-feature-wireless-charging-and-better-cameras/" rel="external nofollow">wireless charging</a>. Fitting so much technology into a phone that is barely 4mm thick will be an impressive feat.

	Samsung will unveil the Galaxy S25 series at the Unpacked 2025 event on January 22 in San Jose, California. Rumors suggest that Samsung might also reveal the Galaxy S25 Slim during the event. While <a href="https://www.neowin.net/news/take-a-look-at-the-purported-official-images-of-the-samsung-galaxy-s25-series/" rel="external nofollow">purported official images</a> of the entire Galaxy S25 series—Galaxy S25, Galaxy S25+, and Galaxy S25 Ultra—were previously leaked, we now have our first look at the Galaxy S25 Slim.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	High-quality renders of the Galaxy S25 Slim highlight the ultra-thin design of the device. The phone is rumored <a href="https://www.neowin.net/news/this-is-how-thin-the-samsung-galaxy-s25-slim-and-iphone-17-airslim-are-expected-to-be/" rel="external nofollow">to be around 6.6mm thin</a>, a bit thicker than Apple's ultra-thin iPhone 17 Air/Slim, which is expected to be around 6.25mm thin. However, the latest report suggests that the Galaxy S25 Slim could be 6.4mm thin, and with the camera module included, it measures only 8.3mm thick. Be it 6.6mm or 6.4mm, the Samsung Galaxy S25 Slim is remarkably thin considering most standard phones are 8-10mm thick without including their camera module.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	Meanwhile, the Galaxy S25 Ultra is expected to be around 8.2mm thick without the camera module. The Galaxy S25 Slim's screen size is tipped to be around 6.7-6.8 inches. The device is anticipated to measure 159 x 76 x 6.4mm compared to the expected 162.8 x 77.6 x 8.2mm measurement of the Galaxy S25 Ultra.

<p>
	Speaking of the renders, the Galaxy S25 Slim features a familiar triple-camera setup on the back and has a metal frame and a glass back. The phone looks almost similar to its other siblings in the series—Galaxy S25 and S25+—aside from the slim form factor. The power and volume buttons are on the right side of the frame and at the bottom, there is a speaker grill, USB-C port, and a microphone. While the Galaxy S25 Slim, purportedly measures around 6.4-6.6mm, the slimmest phone from Samsung was the Galaxy A8, which was just 4.9mm thin. But the downside of the Galaxy A8 was that it packed a mediocre 3,050mAh battery.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	In contrast, the Galaxy S25 Slim is expected to be quite a powerful phone. It is tipped to feature a <a href="https://www.neowin.net/news/leaked-camera-details-of-the-galaxy-s25-slim-suggests-major-upgrades/" rel="external nofollow">200MP primary camera</a>, 50MP ultrawide, and 50MP 3.5x telephoto camera. Under the hood, it is expected to be powered by the Snapdragon 8 Elite chipset paired with 12GB of RAM, and <a href="https://www.neowin.net/news/leaks-suggest-the-samsung-galaxy-s25-slim-will-be-a-thin-but-powerful-smartphone/" rel="external nofollow">juiced by a 4,700-5,000mAh battery</a>. Recently, the phone appeared on Geekbench but <a href="https://www.neowin.net/news/galaxy-s25-slim-with-snapdragon-8-elite-doesnt-score-impressive-numbers-on-geekbench/" rel="external nofollow">scored less impressive numbers</a>, probably because it was a pre-production unit.

	Next week, Samsung will launch the Galaxy S25 series globally. This year, Samsung is rumored to be <a href="https://www.neowin.net/news/samsung-bets-big-on-social-media-influencers-to-make-galaxy-s25-event-a-grand-success/" rel="external nofollow">taking the help of influencers</a> to make the Galaxy Unpacked 2025 event a grand success. The company has already shared a teaser and revealed the <a href="https://www.neowin.net/news/samsung-officially-reveals-galaxy-s25-launch-date-and-pre-reservation-benefits/" rel="external nofollow">pre-reserve benefits</a> for the Galaxy S25 series. It has been rumored that this year the Galaxy S25 and S25+ <a href="https://www.neowin.net/news/the-samsung-galaxy-s25-and-s25-could-launch-with-12gb-ram/" rel="external nofollow">will start at 12GB of RAM</a>, while users will be able to <a href="https://www.neowin.net/news/you-may-not-have-to-go-for-the-top-end-galaxy-s25-ultra-model-to-get-16gb-ram/" rel="external nofollow">get the 16GB RAM</a> on the Galaxy S25 Ultra from the mid-variant.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	Recently, a Vietnamese retailer tipped that this year, the Galaxy S25 will start at 256GB storage from the base variant with 12GB of RAM. However, reliable leaker @chuvn8888 on the social media platform X (formerly Twitter) shared some disappointing update for European buyers eyeing to purchase the vanilla Galaxy S25 model.

</div>

<p>
	According to the leaker, the European Galaxy S25 vanilla model will start at 128GB storage with 12GB RAM. This means that, while the RAM is getting a boost similar to other regions, European buyers may have to settle with less storage of 128GB compared to other markets. It appears to be a strategy by Samsung, to not only utilize the old memory chips while driving the free memory storage upgrade promotion among European buyers.

<p>
	Earlier it was tipped by tipster <a href="https://x.com/ishanagarwal24/status/1879055116721852767" rel="external nofollow">Ishan Agarwal</a> on X that after the official unveiling on January 22, Samsung will start delivering the <a href="https://www.neowin.net/news/download-alleged-samsung-galaxy-s25-series-stock-wallpapers/" rel="external nofollow">Galaxy S25 models</a>—Galaxy S25, Galaxy S25+, and Galaxy S25 Ultra—in India on February 3 for those who have pre-reserved their Galaxy device. For normal buyers, the deliveries could start on February 9. The details are tipped for India, and currently,y there is information about shipping or sale dates for the US, the UK, and other parts of the world.
