	This year's iPhone lineup is expected to undergo a significant redesign. All other models, except for the base iPhone 17, are expected to get a <a href="https://www.neowin.net/news/fresh-iphone-17-series-cad-renders-confirm-previous-rumors-about-the-camera-module-change/" rel="external nofollow">new camera module</a> on the back. Also, Apple is expected to join the slim phone trend with its <a href="https://www.neowin.net/news/dummy-unit-shows-apple-iphone-17-airs-unbelievably-thin-design/" rel="external nofollow">iPhone 17 Air</a>, which is speculated to be even thinner than the <a href="https://www.neowin.net/news/samsung-galaxy-s25-edge-vs-galaxy-s25-slim-design-vs-better-battery/" rel="external nofollow">5.8 mm-thin Galaxy S25 Edge</a>.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	Additionally, the iPhone 17 Pro Max is tipped to <a href="https://www.neowin.net/news/iphone-17-pro-max-tipped-to-get-smaller-dynamic-island-moving-closer-to-punch-hole-design/" rel="external nofollow">get a smaller Dynamic Island</a> compared to the iPhone 16 Pro Max. It was suggested earlier that with the iPhone 18 Pro models, Apple could move the Face ID <a href="https://www.neowin.net/news/under-display-face-id-could-be-a-possibility-in-iphone-18-pro-models/" rel="external nofollow">under the display</a>. Recently, display analyst <a href="https://x.com/DSCCRoss/status/1922462041882952044" rel="external nofollow">Ross Young</a> also corroborated the claim and suggested that under-display Face ID could be a reality in next year's iPhone.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	According to <a href="https://www.etnews.com/20250514000320" rel="external nofollow">ET News</a>, Apple is getting ready to take things a step forward for its 20th anniversary iPhone model. Notably, the report claims that Apple could introduce a bezel-less iPhone in 2027, something most people have been dreaming of (you might have seen various mockups of such iPhones as well).
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	Also, the company is purportedly planning to upgrade the display technology, transitioning from the current 28nm planar process to a 16nm FinFET process OLED display driver chip (DDI) to reduce power consumption and equip the iPhone with a never-seen-before display design.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	Regarding this, Apple is reportedly set to meet soon with Samsung Display and LG Display—Apple's two main OLED suppliers. Furthermore, the report claims that Apple is exploring the commercial viability of advanced technologies such as pure silicon batteries, under-display cameras (UDC), and four-sided curved displays.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	The four-sided curved display could allow Apple to introduce an iPhone without the bezel. According to an industry insider, "Apple has focused on perfection and user experience rather than being the first in the industry to apply new technologies, and has introduced them when the technology is sufficiently mature and can be optimized for its own products."
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	For now, these are rumors, and we would suggest you take this information with a huge pinch of salt. But do let us know your thoughts about a bezel-less iPhone in the comments below.

	Samsung recently launched its slimmest Galaxy phone, the Galaxy S25 Edge, globally. The 256GB model costs $1,100. While there is a debate about why Samsung <a href="https://www.neowin.net/news/samsung-galaxy-s25-edge-vs-galaxy-s25-slim-design-vs-better-battery/" rel="external nofollow">felt the need to launch a slim phone</a> or even why the smartphone market is shifting towards slim phones (Apple is also expected to join the <a href="https://www.neowin.net/news/iphone-17-air-along-with-iphone-17-pro-models-could-get-a-significant-ram-increase/" rel="external nofollow">trend with iPhone 17 Air</a>), a fresh leak has popped up regarding the Galaxy S25 SE.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	The Galaxy S25 Edge is the fourth phone in the S25 family, and if Samsung launches the S25 FE later this year, it will be the fifth phone in the series. However, there are rumors that Samsung could <a href="https://www.neowin.net/news/with-galaxy-s25-edge-launched-samsung-plans-to-replace-plus-model-with-s26-edge-next-year/" rel="external nofollow">replace the "Plus" model with the S26 Edge</a>. So, everything will be back to four models.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	Regarding the Galaxy S25 FE leak, GalaxyClub reports that Samsung could fit a 12MP selfie camera on the Galaxy S25 FE. If true, this would be an upgrade over the 10MP selfie shooter on the Galaxy S24 FE and bring the "FE" model in line with the flagship series. Notably, the Galaxy S20 FE and S21 FE came with 32MP selfie cameras; however, they were downgraded to 10MP with the S23 FE.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	While the details about the sensor remain under wraps, it could be the same 12MP camera as the one on the rest of the Galaxy S25 series models. The report further claims that the phone could pack a 50MP primary camera. Earlier, it was reported that Samsung could use <a href="https://www.neowin.net/news/samsung-could-use-exynos-2500-soc-to-power-galaxy-z-fold7-fe-and-s25-fe/" rel="external nofollow">the Exynos 2500 processor</a> inside the Galaxy S25 FE.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	Other details about the Galaxy S25 FE are still unknown. However, the company is likely to launch the device sometime this year, through a silent newsroom post. Samsung is gearing up to launch its premium foldables, the <a href="https://www.neowin.net/news/samsung-galaxy-z-fold-7-vs-z-fold-6-size-comparison-reveals-subtle-but-key-differences/" rel="external nofollow">Galaxy Z Fold7</a> and <a href="https://www.neowin.net/news/galaxy-z-flip7-may-get-a-battery-boost-while-the-galaxy-z-fold7-could-stay-the-same/" rel="external nofollow">Z Flip7</a>.

	The <a data-wpel-link="internal" href="https://www.ghacks.net/2022/11/02/eu-passes-new-digital-markets-act-will-force-apple-to-allow-third-party-stores-and-sideloading-apps-on-ios/" rel="external nofollow" target="_blank">Digital Markets Act</a> (DMA) continues to open up new avenues in Apple's ecosystem. Now, thanks to the DMA, users in Europe can finally use <a data-wpel-link="internal" href="https://www.ghacks.net/2025/02/25/there-is-a-new-paypal-phishing-scam-that-you-need-to-know-about-using-real-paypal-emails/" rel="external nofollow" target="_blank">PayPal</a>'s tap-to-pay contactless payment method.

<p>
	<a data-wpel-link="internal" href="https://www.ghacks.net/2025/05/07/google-app-for-ios-will-simplify-technical-content-and-jargon/" rel="external nofollow" target="_blank">iOS</a> users had previously been stuck with a single option for NFC transactions, to use the Apple Pay and Wallet. After listening to complaints from payment services, antitrust authorities in Europe found Apple's restriction to be anti-competitive, and in January 2024, Apple offered to allow third-party developers to access the NFC chip on iPhones, to process payments. Similarly, Apple had announced in August 2024, that it would expand support for NFC capabilities in Australia, Brazil, Canada, Japan, New Zealand, the UK, and the US too.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	A year after the change, NFC support is being introduced to PayPal in Europe. According to German blog, <a data-wpel-link="external" href="https://www.iphone-ticker.de/kontaktlos-zahlen-mit-paypal-nfc-funktion-erreicht-erste-nutzer-in-deutschland-256414/" rel="external nofollow" target="_blank">iPhone Ticker</a>, PayPal is rolling out tap-to-pay support for users in Germany. However, there is a limitation. The contactless payment method only works with Mastercard, i.e. it doesn't support Visa cards yet. This limitation is said to be due to a partnership between Mastercard and PayPal.

</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	The contactless payment feature is currently undergoing a soft rollout in Europe, and may only be available to some users as part of a limited trial. Once it is fully operational, it will allow users to conveniently tap their iPhones at Mastercard-enabled terminals, facilitating payments without the need for Apple Pay.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	PayPal is also planning cashback offers from selected partners to promote the feature. Interestingly, PayPal isn't the first payment service to add NFC support for iPhone in Europe, <a data-wpel-link="external" href="https://www.theverge.com/news/666009/paypal-tap-to-pay-nfc-iphone-eu-dma" rel="external nofollow" target="_blank">The Verge</a> reports that a Norwegian payment app called Vipps was the first to introduce tap-to-pay feature in December 2024.

<p>
	Apple was <a data-wpel-link="internal" href="https://www.ghacks.net/2025/05/01/apple-faces-potential-criminal-contempt-for-willful-violation-of-injunction/" rel="external nofollow" target="_blank">recently ordered</a> by a U.S. Federal judge to allow third-party payments on the App Store, after it was found to have intentionally breached an injunction.

	Last week, <a href="https://www.neowin.net/news/google-leaks-material-3-expressive-design-language-ahead-of-google-io-2025/" rel="external nofollow">we reported</a> that elements of Google's next design direction had leaked. Now, the company has officially announced Material 3 Expressive, its updated design system for Android and Wear OS. Material 3 Expressive builds on <a href="https://www.neowin.net/news/android-12-will-come-with-theming-options-called-material-you/" rel="external nofollow">Material You </a>by adding what Google calls a daring use of shape and color.

	It emphasizes delightful, springy animations and tactile haptic feedback to create a more engaging and emotional connection with your device.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	For example, dismissing a notification now causes the others to react subtly, and flinging something off-screen triggers a "satisfying" little buzz. The shade background also gets a soft blur, adding a sense of depth.

<p>
	When the initial designs linked to this new language surfaced last week, Neowin readers had some strong reactions. Comments widely described the aesthetic as unappealing and overly simplistic or childlike, with one commenter <a href="https://www.neowin.net/news/google-leaks-material-3-expressive-design-language-ahead-of-google-io-2025/#comment-598985202" rel="external nofollow">calling it "feminine." </a>Another <a href="https://www.neowin.net/news/google-leaks-material-3-expressive-design-language-ahead-of-google-io-2025/#comment-598985120" rel="external nofollow">commenter felt</a> it looked like "Gen Z (kindergarten edition) design." <a href="https://www.neowin.net/news/google-leaks-material-3-expressive-design-language-ahead-of-google-io-2025/#comment-598985122" rel="external nofollow">Another thought</a> was that Google had "managed to make it look even worse than the current material design" and questioned if "there's going to be an adult version without all the overly rounded corners and the silly fonts?" Despite this early, critical feedback, Google has stated extensive research backs Expressive's design choices, claiming improvements in finding key information faster.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	Beyond the controversial look, Google has included some usability tweaks. Quick Settings are now more customizable, allowing you to add more toggles. A new Live Updates feature surfaces real-time progress notifications, keeping things like food deliveries or rideshares visible without being buried in your standard notification list.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	The design updates also extend to watches. Material 3 Expressive for Wear OS focuses on the round display, with scrolling animations that trace the screen's curvature and shape-shifting elements to adapt to the smaller size. You get glanceable buttons that wrap around the display's edge and more engaging Tiles for quick information access. Google reports that this update delivers up to 10% more battery life on Wear OS 6 devices.

<p>
	Google plans to roll out Material 3 Expressive to Android 16 and Wear OS 6 devices later this year, with Pixel devices receiving these updates first.

	The <a href="https://www.neowin.net/news/samsung-officially-launches-galaxy-s25-edge-the-slimmest-smartphone-in-the-galaxy-series/" rel="external nofollow">launch of the Galaxy S25 Edge</a> is not only Samsung's foray into the slim-phone territory, but it could also signal the company's future strategy. Reportedly, Samsung is planning to replace the "Plus" variant in the Galaxy S series with the Galaxy S26 Edge next year.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	According to sources from Samsung's smartphone component suppliers, the Korean giant has already entered the early stages of development for the Galaxy S26 lineup, under the project name "NPA." This series will reportedly include three models: the Galaxy S26, Galaxy S26 Edge, and Galaxy S26 Ultra.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	This marks a shift from the current Galaxy S25 series, which includes four models: the Galaxy S25, Galaxy S25 Edge, Galaxy S25+, and Galaxy S25 Ultra, under the project name "PA." <a href="https://thelec.kr/news/articleView.html?idxno=35812" rel="external nofollow">The Elec</a> reports that the "Plus" variant has been the weakest performer in the S-series, even though it offers better <a href="https://www.neowin.net/news/samsung-galaxy-s25-edge-vs-galaxy-s25-slim-design-vs-better-battery/" rel="external nofollow">value for money compared to the Galaxy S25 Edge</a>.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	Out of the projected 37.7 million Galaxy S25 units expected to ship in 2025, only 6.7 million are anticipated to be of the Galaxy S25+. Comparatively, the base variant is expected to account for 13.6 million units, and the Galaxy S25 Ultra for 17.4 million units.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	The market performance of the recently launched Galaxy S25 Edge will be crucial, as it will likely determine whether the Edge model will fully replace the "Plus" model in the S26 lineup. Inside sources note, "Currently, four types of organic light-emitting diode (OLED) panels are being developed for the Galaxy S26 series. We will have to wait and see whether the Edge model will replace the Plus model."
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	This appears to mirror Apple's strategy, as the Cupertino-based company is also expected to <a href="https://www.neowin.net/news/new-rumor-suggests-that-apple-could-replace-the-plus-model-with-the-iphone-17-slim/" rel="external nofollow">drop the "Plus" model</a> from its lineup in favor of the <a href="https://www.neowin.net/news/iphone-17-air-along-with-iphone-17-pro-models-could-get-a-significant-ram-increase/" rel="external nofollow">slim iPhone 17 Air</a>.

	After months of leaks and official teasers at live events, Samsung has finally launched the slimmest Galaxy phone yet — <a href="https://www.neowin.net/news/samsung-officially-launches-galaxy-s25-edge-the-slimmest-smartphone-in-the-galaxy-series/" rel="external nofollow">the Galaxy S25 Edge</a>. While the phone boasts a solid mix of hardware and software features, it's the ultra-slim profile that steals the spotlight.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	Its main rival, the <a href="https://www.neowin.net/news/iphone-17-air-along-with-iphone-17-pro-models-could-get-a-significant-ram-increase/" rel="external nofollow">Apple iPhone 17 Air/Slim</a>, is expected to arrive later this year. But until then, a close competitor already exists in the form of its sibling, the Galaxy S25+. With the addition of the Galaxy S25 Edge, Samsung now offers a full lineup tailored for different user preferences:
</p>

<p>

</p>

<ul>
	<li>
		<strong>Galaxy S25</strong>: For those looking for a powerful yet compact phone
	</li>
	<li>
		<strong>Galaxy S25+</strong>: For those who don't mind a bit of extra weight for a better battery and a third camera
	</li>
	<li>
		<strong>Galaxy S25 Edge</strong>: For those who want a slim phone that stands out
	</li>
	<li>
		<strong>Galaxy S25 Ultra</strong>: For those who want nothing but the best of the Android world
	</li>
</ul>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	The Samsung Galaxy S25 Edge brings a slim profile while packing top-of-the-line specifications. It features a 200MP camera (same as the Galaxy S25 Ultra), Snapdragon 8 Elite chipset, lightweight design, and all the advanced Galaxy AI features.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<figure class="image image--expandable">
	<img alt="Galaxy S25 Edge Black" class="ipsImage" height="479" width="720" src="https://cdn.neowin.com/news/images/uploaded/2025/05/1747113008_samsung-mobile-galaxy-s25-edge-engineering-marvel-slim-innovation_dl4.jpg">
</figure>

<p>
	However, given how similar it is to the Galaxy S25+, it calls for a specs comparison to know what you might be giving up or gaining. This will also help you decide which one to pick: the Galaxy S25 Edge or the Galaxy S25+.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	Instead of throwing a full spec sheet and leaving it up to you to figure out the differences between the two models, here's a breakdown of the key differences between the Galaxy S25 Edge and Galaxy S25+:
</p>

<h3>
	Design &amp; Dimensions
</h3>

<ul>
	<li>
		<strong>Thickness</strong>: Galaxy S25 Edge is just 5.8mm thin compared to Galaxy S25+'s 7.8 mm thinness.
	</li>
	<li>
		<strong>Weight</strong>: Galaxy S25 Edge weighs 163 grams, similar to the smaller Galaxy S25, whereas the Galaxy S25+ weighs 190 grams.
	</li>
	<li>
		<strong>Build</strong>: The Galaxy S25 Edge uses a titanium frame, while the Galaxy S25+ uses an aluminum frame.
	</li>
	<li>
		<strong>Colors</strong>: Galaxy S25 Edge is offered in Titanium Silver, Jet Black, and Icy Blue color options, whereas the S25+ is available in Icy Blue, Mint, Navy, Silver Shadow, Pink Gold, Coral Red, and Blue Black colors.
	</li>
</ul>

<h3>
	Camera
</h3>

<ul>
	<li>
		<strong>Primary camera</strong>: Galaxy S25 Edge has a 200MP main sensor, while the Galaxy S25+ has a 50MP main camera.
	</li>
	<li>
		<strong>Telephoto camera</strong>: Galaxy S25+ features a 10MP 3x telephoto camera, but the Galaxy S25 Edge lacks one.
	</li>
</ul>

<h3>
	Performance
</h3>

<ul>
	<li>
		<strong>Chipset</strong>: While both are powered by the Snapdragon 8 Elite SoC, the Galaxy S25 Edge has one less efficiency core.
	</li>
</ul>

<h3>
	Battery &amp; Charging
</h3>

<ul>
	<li>
		<p>
			<strong>Battery capacity</strong>: The Galaxy S25 Edge features a 3,900 mAh battery, while the Galaxy S25+ comes with a larger 4,900 mAh battery.
		</p>
	</li>
	<li>
		<p>
			<strong>Charging speed</strong>: S25 Edge comes with 25W of wired charging support, whereas the Galaxy S25+ supports 45W of fast wired charging.
		</p>

		<p>

		</p>
	</li>
</ul>

<h3>
	Software
</h3>

<ul>
	<li>
		<strong>Android version</strong>: Both come with Android 15, One UI 7 out of the box, and seven years of software update support. However, the Galaxy S25+ may not last as long, since it was launched at the beginning of the year.
	</li>
</ul>

<h3>
	Price
</h3>

<ul>
	<li>
		<strong>Starting price</strong>: The Galaxy S25 Edge costs $1,100 for the 256GB model, while the Galaxy S25+ is cheaper and costs $999.99 for the 256GB model.
	</li>
</ul>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	The Galaxy S25 Edge could be a great buy for those looking for a slim phone, which is speculated to be the "trend" going forward, with Apple also expected to join the bandwagon. However, the $999 Galaxy S25+ could be a better buy if you can ignore the 200MP camera and slim profile, for better battery life, an extra camera, faster charging, and slightly better performance.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	<em>Let us know in the comments what you think about the latest trend of slim phones, and whether the Galaxy S25 Edge is something that you would buy.</em>

	Samsung today officially <a href="https://news.samsung.com/global/meet-the-samsung-galaxy-s25-edge-an-engineering-marvel-of-new-slim-hardware-innovation" rel="external nofollow">launched</a> the newest addition to the Galaxy S25 series: the <a href="https://www.neowin.net/news/galaxy-s25-edges-weight-thickness-and-price-purportedly-confirmed/" rel="external nofollow">Galaxy S25 Edge</a>. The main highlight of the Galaxy S25 Edge is its ultra-slim design, which delivers the full capabilities of a flagship smartphone.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	The Galaxy S25 Edge is just 5.8mm thick and weighs only 163 grams. Its optimally curved edges and titanium frame enhance the device's durability. It features Corning Gorilla Glass Ceramic 2 on the front display and Corning Gorilla Glass Victus 2 on the back panel for added protection. It is also designed for IP68-rated water and dust resistance for day-to-day slips and spills.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	Despite its slim and lightweight design, the Galaxy S25 Edge includes a 200MP wide lens and a 12MP ultra-wide sensor for an exceptional camera experience. It also comes equipped with the same ProVisual Engine and Nightography capabilities found in the rest of the Galaxy S25 series, ensuring excellent photo and video performance.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	To deliver flagship-level performance, Samsung has equipped the device with the Snapdragon 8 Elite Mobile Platform for Galaxy—the same processor used across the Galaxy S25 series. Samsung has also redesigned the vapor chamber to be thinner yet broader, keeping the device cool even under sustained loads.

	Samsung is slated to launch its slimmest phone, the Galaxy S25 Edge, next week. The South Korean tech giant partnered with Corning to develop a new glass ceramic that offers better protection for the device's thin form factor.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	"One of the hurdles faced during the development of Gorilla Glass Ceramic 2 was creating a display material that was both exceptionally thin and reliably strong," Samsung said in a <a href="https://news.samsung.com/global/samsung-galaxy-s25-edge-features-new-corning-gorilla-glass-ceramic-2-for-enhanced-durability" rel="external nofollow">press release</a>. The new glass tech offers improved durability and crack deflection capabilities.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	"As a key component in enhancing damage-resistance, Corning’s ion exchange process further fortifies the glass ceramic material and improves retained strength of the display cover," Samsung added.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	Galaxy S25 Edge has been in the news for months now. Samsung <a href="https://www.neowin.net/news/samsungs-slim-phone-is-called-the-galaxy-s25-edge-may-be-priced-below-1299/" rel="external nofollow">teased</a> the device earlier this year without revealing much. Since then, several leaks and rumors have spilled details about its <a href="https://www.neowin.net/news/samsung-galaxy-s25-edge-could-launch-in-the-us-on-may-30-price-also-leaked/" rel="external nofollow">price tag</a>, <a href="https://www.neowin.net/news/samsung-galaxy-s25-edge-official-wallpapers-leak-online-ahead-of-launch/" rel="external nofollow">official wallpapers</a>, <a href="https://www.neowin.net/news/samsung-galaxy-s25-edge-tipped-to-be-584mm-thin-confirmed-specs-also-surface/" rel="external nofollow">thickness</a>, and <a href="https://www.neowin.net/news/galaxy-s25-edges-weight-thickness-and-price-purportedly-confirmed/" rel="external nofollow">weight</a>. Alleged <a href="https://www.neowin.net/news/watch-the-alleged-samsung-galaxy-s25-edge-in-a-hands-on-video-in-all-its-glory/" rel="external nofollow">hands-on videos</a> and <a href="https://www.neowin.net/news/new-videos-show-dummies-of-the-alleged-galaxy-s25-edge-in-black-and-silver/" rel="external nofollow">dummy units</a> have given an idea of what the actual device could look like.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	Regarding why the company wants to launch a thin smartphone, Samsung argued that modern smartphones pack AI features for a better experience, and our reliance on them has grown. However, they must still be "portable and lightweight without sacrificing power and innovation."
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	It was also reported that the Galaxy S25 Edge <a href="https://www.neowin.net/news/the-samsung-galaxy-s25-edge-might-ditch-glass-for-ceramic-back-panel/" rel="external nofollow">could ditch the glass</a> for a ceramic back panel. Initial rumors suggested the device could be <a href="https://www.neowin.net/news/samsung-galaxy-s25-edge-might-be-initially-exclusive-to-korea-and-china/" rel="external nofollow">limited to China and South Korea</a> at launch. It was later claimed to <a href="https://www.neowin.net/news/samsung-galaxy-s25-edge-could-launch-in-the-us-on-may-30-price-also-leaked/" rel="external nofollow">arrive in the US</a> and other regions by the end of May.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	Samsung finally revealed the <a href="https://www.neowin.net/news/samsung-to-debut-its-slimmest-galaxy-phone-ever-very-soon-pre-reservation-opens/" rel="external nofollow">official launch date</a> for the Galaxy S25 Edge after an Italian teaser <a href="https://www.neowin.net/news/mark-your-calendars-as-the-samsung-galaxy-s25-edge-will-debut-on-may-13-says-report/" rel="external nofollow">leaked online</a>. The device will debut on May 13 (9 a.m. KST) during a live stream event and is available for pre-order on Samsung's website with a $50 store credit. Due to timezone differences, the live stream will happen in the US on May 12 at 8 p.m. EDT and 5 p.m. PDT.

	Things are heating up for Apple's first foldable device. It was recently tipped that Apple will move toward a <a href="https://www.neowin.net/news/apple-might-switch-to-bi-annual-iphone-launches-says-analyst/" rel="external nofollow">bi-annual release cycle for iPhones</a>, with the company's first foldable expected to launch in the second half of 2026. The foldable iPhone will launch alongside the iPhone 18 Pro Max, iPhone 18 Pro, and the iPhone 18 Slim/Air, as per the leaked release cycle.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	However, fresh information provides more details about the upcoming foldable iPhone, suggesting it will feature the most advanced display technology ever seen on a foldable device. Notably, Samsung is rumored to be <a href="https://www.neowin.net/news/apple-reportedly-inks-a-deal-with-samsung-to-supply-displays-for-its-foldable-devices/" rel="external nofollow">supplying the display</a> to Apple for foldable iPhones.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	Apple has been reluctant to enter the foldable market <a href="https://www.neowin.net/news/no-foldable-iphone-until-2027-before-apple-irons-out-the-crease-issue/" rel="external nofollow">without offering a technological </a>edge over existing folding phones. Earlier this year, it was reported that Apple had successfully managed to <a href="https://www.neowin.net/news/report-apple-manages-to-eliminate-long-standing-issue-of-display-crease-on-foldables/" rel="external nofollow">eliminate the display crease</a> on its foldable device.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	According to <a href="https://m.blog.naver.com/PostView.naver?blogId=yeux1122&amp;logNo=223858620427&amp;navType=by" rel="external nofollow">yeux1122's</a> fresh blog on Korea's Naver platform, the foldable iPhone will use a new process display for which Apple holds the trademark rights. The display reportedly meets "Apple's desired levels of thickness, power-to-weight ratio, brightness," and other requirements.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	Additionally, Samsung, the display supplier, has never used this particular technology in any of its existing products. The new display is approximately 19% thinner compared to the current Galaxy Z Fold model.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	Samsung reportedly achieved this by integrating the touch sensor into the display. The blog also mentions improvements in color reproduction and brightness, with expectations that the display could offer the highest peak brightness among foldables.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	A reliable source, <a href="https://www.neowin.net/news/these-two-key-features-will-set-apart-apples-foldable-iphone-from-its-competition/" rel="external nofollow">Bloomberg's Mark Gurman</a>, has previously suggested that Apple's foldable iPhone will feature a nearly invisible display crease when folded. Also, the phone's higher-quality hinge is rumored to be <a href="https://www.neowin.net/news/apples-folding-iphone-to-feature-metallic-glass-hinge-to-resist-bending/" rel="external nofollow">made of metallic glass</a>, offering 2.5 times more durability than a titanium hinge.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	For all these advanced features, don't be surprised if Apple asks <a href="https://www.neowin.net/news/apple-once-again-tipped-to-price-its-first-foldable-upwards-of-2000/" rel="external nofollow">upwards of $2,000</a> for its first foldable iPhone. As of now, this information remains speculative, so take it with a pinch of salt.

	Recently, after the <a href="https://www.neowin.net/news/mark-your-calendars-as-the-samsung-galaxy-s25-edge-will-debut-on-may-13-says-report/" rel="external nofollow">Italian launch poster</a> of the Galaxy S25 Edge surfaced online, Samsung has finally revealed the official launch date, putting an end to the rumors. In a newsroom post, Samsung confirmed that its slimmest Galaxy phone, the Galaxy S25 Edge, will launch on May 13 at 9 AM KST in South Korea.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	However, due to time zone differences, in the US, the launch will take place on May 12 at 8 PM EDT, which was previously rumored to <a href="https://www.neowin.net/news/samsung-galaxy-s25-edge-could-launch-in-the-us-on-may-30-price-also-leaked/" rel="external nofollow">happen on May 30</a>. In the press release, Samsung noted that while AI has helped smartphones to become "more powerful and intelligent than ever before," there is a growing demand for a portable and lightweight smartphone that doesn't sacrifice power and innovation. The company shared the official teaser video through their official X/Twitter handle.

Samsung says that the Galaxy S25 Edge isn't just a slim phone, but highlights their engineering prowess aimed at giving a premium experience "worthy of the S series name."
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	It has also been confirmed that the Galaxy S25 Edge will feature a 200MP wide-angle camera with "pro-grade capabilities to intuitively capture the world around you." Additionally, the Galaxy AI enhances Galaxy S25 Edge's entire photography process—from capturing, editing, and sharing.

	Google has announced a <a href="https://apps.apple.com/us/app/google-gemini/id6477489729" rel="external nofollow">dedicated iPadOS version</a> of the Gemini app. Previously, you could only run the iOS version of Gemini in compatibility mode on an iPad.

<p>
	Here’s some of the announcement, which Google spokesperson Elijah Lawal emailed to <em>The Verge</em>:
</p>

<blockquote class="duet--article--blockquote ewrhy30 _1xwtict9">
	<p>
		With the new app, you can use the split view on the iPad to put Gemini side by side with other apps for multitasking. You can also effortlessly use powerful features like:

	<p>
		• Gemini Live: Have natural, free-flowing conversations in over 45 languages.

<p>
	According to the listing, Gemini can also now be added as a homescreen widget, and supports connecting to your Google Photos library.

	For those who eagerly waited for Sony to launch its next flagship, the wait is finally over. In a teaser video on YouTube, Sony has unveiled that its Xperia 1 VII flagship mobile will launch on May 13, 2025 (04:00 AM CEST).
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	Sony hasn't made significant progress in the global handset market, but continues to cater to a niche audience. While earlier it was tipped that Sony could launch the Xperia 1 VII on May 15, the same date as the launch of the last Xperia, the teaser video confirms otherwise.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	In the <a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GkxeZkM0Ouo" rel="external nofollow">teaser video</a> "The next ONE is coming," Sony revealed that the Xperia 1 VII will launch on May 13, 2025, just a week from now. In addition to the launch date, Sony claims that the Xperia 1 VII will be "powered by Alpha."
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	While it is not clear what Sony means by the "powered by Alpha" tagline, it could refer to either hardware or software enhancements. The Alpha series is Sony's line of cameras, so there is a good chance that the "Alpha" technology could influence the phone's software features, especially since the Xperia 1 VII retains the boxy design of its predecessors.

The device will come with a triple camera bump on the back, similar to last year. The Xperia 1 VII is rumored to feature a 48MP primary, 12MP ultrawide, and 12MP telephoto periscope lens.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	Thick bezels are expected to remain on the front, and the display is rumored to measure 6.5 inches. This year's Xperia 1 VII may also feature a textured frame, consistent with previous Xperia phones.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	The power button, which sits on the right side of the device, will double as a fingerprint scanner. Volume rockers and the dedicated camera key also sit on the right side of the device. Sony has retained the 3.5mm audio jack and tool-less SIM tray.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	Under the hood, the Xperia 1 VII is speculated to be powered by the Snapdragon 8 Elite chipset paired with 12GB or 16GB of RAM. More details will unfurl on the launch date.

	Google announced it has started rolling out the monthly software update for supported Pixel models for May 2025. The latest Android 15 builds, which arrived just weeks before the company's <a href="https://www.neowin.net/news/heres-a-round-up-of-the-talks-you-can-tune-into-at-google-io-2025-next-month/" rel="external nofollow">annual developer conference</a> and <a href="https://www.neowin.net/news/google-to-host-the-android-show-io-edition-to-make-some-new-announcements/" rel="external nofollow">Android showcase</a>, contain several bug fixes and improvements.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	As per the <a href="https://support.google.com/pixelphone/thread/342521516/google-pixel-update-may-2025" rel="external nofollow">changelog</a>, the latest update fixes Bluetooth pairing issues with certain smartwatches in certain conditions, degraded microphone recording quality in certain apps, and secondary language displayed in quick settings under certain conditions.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	In addition, Pixel's May 2025 update ships with over two dozen security patches affecting Google and Android services. This includes the zero-day exploit tracked in the <a href="https://source.android.com/docs/security/bulletin/2025-05-01" rel="external nofollow">Android Security Bulletin</a> as CVE-2025-27363, which Google says "may be under limited, targeted exploitation."
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	The search giant further cautions that the update's anti-rollback measures close the doors for those looking to run older builds of Android 15 on their devices. "The May 2025 update for Pixel 6 (6, 6 Pro, 6a) and Pixel 8 (8, 8 Pro, 8a) devices contains a bootloader update that increments the anti-roll back version for the bootloader," Google <a href="https://developers.google.com/android/images" rel="external nofollow">said</a>.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	"This prevents the device from rolling back to previous vulnerable versions of the bootloader. After flashing the May 2025 update on these devices you won't be able to flash and boot older Android 15 builds."
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	Users will be notified once the new Pixel update is available for their device, including the Pixel 6, Pixel 6 Pro, Pixel 6a, Pixel 7, Pixel 7 Pro, Pixel 7a, Pixel Tablet, Pixel Fold, Pixel 8, Pixel 8 Pro, Pixel 8a, Pixel 9, Pixel 9 Pro, Pixel 9 Pro XL, Pixel 9 Pro Fold, and Pixel 9a.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	The rollout has started and will continue in phases over the next week. So, the update might take a while to land on your device. You can manually check for new updates on your Pixel phone or tablet in the Settings app by going to System &gt; Software Update.

	<img alt="Opera 89 for Android" class="ipsImage" height="405" width="720" src="https://cdn.neowin.com/news/images/uploaded/2025/05/1746526874_opera89.jpg">
</p>

<p>
	Opera has just released version 89 for Android users. This update has a heavy focus on the tab experience, with changes being made to alleviate tab overload for users. The main change that users will see is customizable tab layouts and Tab Islands but there are also tab recovery, tab search features, and more available too.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	With the new tab layouts, users can pick from three modes. There is Carousel which users are already familiar with, there’s a Grid option which lets you see more of your tabs, and then there is List which lets you see the most tabs in your limited screen space. There is a new icon to the leftmost side of the bar that lets you customize the tab layout.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	Next up is Tab Islands; this is a smart feature that automatically bundles tabs based on context to keep your browser tidy, this is going to be especially useful to people with lots of tabs. Explaining the feature a bit more, Opera <a href="https://blogs.opera.com/mobile/2025/05/new-opera-for-android-89-comes-with-the-most-complete-tab-management-system-out-there/" rel="external nofollow">said</a>:
</p>

<p>

</p>

<blockquote class="QuoteNewsStyle">
	<p>
		“Tab Islands is a smart feature that groups tabs automatically for you, and it’s designed to keep tabs opened within the same context together. For instance, if you’re reading a product review and open links to three different stores selling the product you’re eyeing, then Opera will automatically create a Tab Island that will keep the review and the store tabs together.”
	</p>
</blockquote>

<p>
	You can create them manually too by going to tab gallery &gt; long pressing on the tab you want to put in an island &gt; drag it onto another tab and release. This create a new Tab Island manually.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	Another new feature is the ability to recover recently closed tabs. To do this, follow these instructions: Open the tab gallery &gt; Tap the recently closed tabs icon that’s directly left of the new tab (‘+’) icon &gt; Locate the tab you want to restore in the list and swipe it to the right &gt; Your tab has been restored. This feature lets you access the last 100 tabs that you’ve closed, this is pretty helpful.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	Heavy tab users may struggle to find the tab they’re looking for, to address this, Opera has added a tab search feature which you can use with the following instructions: Open the tab gallery &gt; Tap on the new search tabs icon in the top right corner of the tab gallery (represented by a magnifying glass) &gt; Type a keyword related to the tab title or URL you want to look for – all related tabs will be displayed on the screen &gt; Tap and open the tab you were looking for.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	Finally, there is now the option to mute individual tabs without having to turn the volume of your phone down. To mute a tab, just look for the speaker icon on the noisy tab and tap it, this should mute it.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	You can now get this update by heading to the <a href="https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.opera.browser" rel="external nofollow">Google Play Store</a> and searching for Opera.
</p>

	The Brave web browser is perhaps best known for its ad blocking capabilities and allowing users to earn BAT crypto. In a new update for Android, the browser wants to take things further by allowing users to block any page elements, not just ads. This update to the Android browser brings it up to par with the desktop version which already has a Block Elements feature.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	Block Elements is quite buried away in the Android implementation. To find it, you need to tap on the Shields menu, go to “Advanced controls”, select “Block element”, tap the unwanted element, and then confirm with the “Block Elements” button. On the desktop, it’s arguably easier to find this feature as you just have to right click.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	If you ever want to clear your list of blocked elements, it’s possible to do that by pressing “Clear all blocked elements” in the Shields menu. This option only clears the blocked elements list for the page being viewed currently but it’s a quick way to reset everything to default. You can also see your per-site rules by heading to brave://settings/shields/filters.

<p>
	While blocking elements may provide you with some relief from annoying features of web pages, it can also introduce issues with the page. If you do experience any issue, it is best to “Clear all blocked elements” for the problematic page.

<p>
	The block elements feature is <a href="https://brave.com/privacy-updates/34-block-page-elements-android/" rel="external nofollow">available</a> with Brave for Android 1.78, you can update to this version using the Google Play Store.

	Google has been working on a battery health menu that could help you determine why your Android phone isn’t lasting as long between charges as it used to. It’s similar to an iPhone feature that <a href="/2018/2/7/16984234/how-to-iphone-throttling-ios-11-3" rel="">launched in 2018</a>, but unlike that rollout, it won’t be available on the older devices that probably need it the most.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	As reported by <a href="https://www.androidauthority.com/android-16-battery-health-menu-missing-older-google-pixels-3554776/" rel="external nofollow"><em>Android Authority</em></a> and pointed out on <a href="https://www.reddit.com/r/android_beta/comments/1kfxiqy/official_word_from_google_on_battery_health_for/" rel="external nofollow">Reddit</a>, a Google developer on the <a href="https://issuetracker.google.com/issues/403373209?pli=1" rel="external nofollow">public Android Issue Tracker site</a> said the battery health indicator feature will only come to the company’s Pixel 8A and newer models, and that Google “won’t fix” the problem because it’s “infeasible.”
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	The note, in response to users testing on devices including the Pixel 6 and Pixel 8 Pro, reads:
</p>

<blockquote class="duet--article--blockquote ewrhy30 _1xwtict9">
	<p>
		<em>Status: Won’t Fix (Infeasible)</em>
	</p>

	<p>

	</p>

	<p>
		<em>Thank you for reporting this. The Battery Health Indicator feature is currently supported in Beta 3 on Pixel 8a and Pixel 9 products including 9 Pro Fold. Due to product limitations, this feature will not be available on older in-market Pixel devices.</em>
	</p>
</blockquote>

<p>
	Google launched the battery health indicator to Android 16 beta testers in March and has been spotted <a href="/2023/12/21/24011265/android-battery-health-indicator-features" rel="">working on some form of the utility</a> since 2023. We asked Google why the feature is restricted to Pixel 8A and Pixel 9, but haven’t received a response yet.

	Google is working on turning Pixels into pocket PCs a la Samsung’s DeX.
</h3>

<p>
	A beta build of Android 16 contains an early version of Google’s new Android Desktop Mode that, in the future, could let users simply plug their smartphone into a monitor and use it like a laptop or desktop computer.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	The new feature was shared by Android tinkerer Mishaal Rahman reporting for <a href="https://www.androidauthority.com/android-desktop-mode-leak-3550321/" rel="external nofollow"><em>Android Authority</em></a>. Rahman manually enabled Android Desktop Mode under developer options on his Google Pixel 8 Pro running the latest Android 16 beta. After plugging it into a USB-C compatible monitor, it immediately displays a PC-like interface on the external display, <a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JrE15if_AVs" rel="external nofollow">as you can see as in his video</a><span>:</span>
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>

</p>

<div class="ipsEmbeddedVideo" contenteditable="false">
	<div>
		<iframe allow="accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share" allowfullscreen="" frameborder="0" height="113" referrerpolicy="strict-origin-when-cross-origin" src="https://www.youtube-nocookie.com/embed/JrE15if_AVs?feature=oembed" title="DeX on Pixel?! FIRST LOOK at Android's new Desktop Mode!" width="200"></iframe>
	</div>
</div>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	It looks similar to Samsung’s <a href="/2019/8/7/20755139/samsung-galaxy-note-10-dex-windows-mac-app-laptop-desktop-connect-unpacked-event" rel="">useful DeX feature</a> that lets you <a href="/2017/5/2/15495036/samsung-dex-station-galaxy-s8-review-desktop-dock" rel="">dock a Galaxy smartphone</a> to a monitor for a windowed experience.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	Android Desktop Mode puts Android’s status bar on the top so you can see your Wi-Fi and signal strength, and there’s a taskbar on the bottom that lets you pin apps for easy access. The taskbar also gives you a Windows Start Menu–style app drawer, and you get access to Android’s native navigation buttons on the right end of the taskbar. Apps run in windowed modes that look a lot like the experience on Android tablets, but you also get Windows PC–like abilities such as snapping windows to the left and right of the screen.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	Last year, Rahman found an early version of Google’s desktop experience didn’t do much more than let you <a href="/2024/4/6/24122777/android-gets-a-little-dex-ier" rel="">drop a resizable windowed app onto a bigger screen</a>. In March, Google upped its abilities to include a display placement management setting that lets you drag boxes to arrange your mobile screen and monitor so you can make it easier to navigate your cursor between them, much like the display arrangement settings you’ll find on desktop operating systems.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	Rahman says Desktop Mode might not be ready at launch for Android 16, which is <a href="/2024/10/31/24284665/android-16-release-schedule-q2-2025" rel="">expected to launch this spring</a>. It could come later in a quarterly update or even as part of Android 17, which won’t likely come until 2026.

	The market share tracking website, Statcounter, is now reporting that Android 15 has a market share of 10.06%, putting it over the 10% milestone for the first time since it <a href="https://www.neowin.net/news/work-on-android-15-is-complete-and-google-has-released-the-source-code/" rel="external nofollow">launched in September 2024</a>. This is the latest stable version of Android, but given the slow pace at which Android updates reach users, it has only now passed 10% of usage.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	Android 14 peaked in January 2025 at 37.08% and has since been declining. For the most recent month, it sits at 33.44%. Android 13 also declined from 17.38% to 16.94%. For any iPhone users out there not that familiar with Android updates and looking aghast at these figures, it’s important to understand that Android users still get security patches from OEMs if their devices are still supported, as well as <a href="https://www.neowin.net/editorials/how-google-killed-my-excitement-in-operating-system-upgrades/" rel="external nofollow">updates to core components from Google</a>.
</p>

<p>
	What’s interesting looking back at the data is the fact that Android 15 seems to be taking longer to be adopted compared to Android 14. Version 14 was released in October 2023 and by February 2024 it had already reached 12.58% market share. That’s a much quicker uptake than Android 15 which had only hit 3.3% after the same period of time.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	One of the main cited reasons for the slower uptake is the delayed release of OneUI 7 by Samsung. Given that Samsung is one of the main players in the Android landscape, this will have had a big effect on Android 15 adoption.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	Neowin reported that <a href="https://www.neowin.net/news/samsung-begins-rolling-out-stable-one-ui-7-starting-with-galaxy-s24-and-z-fold-series/" rel="external nofollow">OneUI 7 started rolling out at the start of April</a> beginning with the Galaxy S24 and Z Fold series. Here is the rollout timetable, current when the article was published:
</p>

<p>

</p>

<ul>
	<li>
		<strong>April</strong>: Galaxy Z Fold 5, Galaxy Z Flip 5, Tab S10+/S10 Ultra, Galaxy S23/S23+/S23 Ultra, S24 FE.
	</li>
	<li>
		<strong>May</strong>: Galaxy Z Fold 4, Z Flip 4, Galaxy Tab S9/S9+/S9 Ultra, S23 FE, Z Fold 3, Z Flip 3, A34, A35, S22/S22+/S22 Ultra, Tab S8/S8+/S8 Ultra, S21/S21+/S21 Ultra, Galaxy A16, Galaxy Quantum 5, Galaxy Quantum 4.
	</li>
	<li>
		<strong>June</strong>: Galaxy Tab S9 FE/S9 FE+, Galaxy A73, A53, A33, A25, A24, A15, Quantum 3, Jump 3, Jump 2, Buddy 3, Galaxy Tab A9/A9+, Tab Active 5, Tab Active 4 Pro, Wide 7.
	</li>
</ul>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	Hopefully, OneUI 7’s rollout over the next couple of months will significantly drive Android 15 adoption. We should have a clearer picture around July, August, or September when all the above eligible devices will likely have upgraded.

	Ever since Samsung showcased its slimmest phone, the Galaxy S25 Edge, at the Unpacked event earlier this year, rumors about the device haven't stopped. We have seen <a href="https://www.neowin.net/news/watch-the-alleged-samsung-galaxy-s25-edge-in-a-hands-on-video-in-all-its-glory/" rel="external nofollow">hands-on videos</a>, details about the design, <a href="https://www.neowin.net/news/take-a-look-at-samsung-galaxy-s25-edges-three-titanium-colors/" rel="external nofollow">colors</a>, <a href="https://www.neowin.net/news/galaxy-s25-edges-weight-thickness-and-price-purportedly-confirmed/" rel="external nofollow">thickness, and weight</a>, <a href="https://www.neowin.net/news/samsung-galaxy-s25-edge-official-wallpapers-leak-online-ahead-of-launch/" rel="external nofollow">even wallpapers, </a>before the device's official launch. Now, the official launch teaser of the Galaxy S25 Edge has been leaked, spilling the launch date.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	It was rumored that Samsung would initially keep the Galaxy S25 Edge <a href="https://www.neowin.net/news/samsung-galaxy-s25-edge-might-be-initially-exclusive-to-korea-and-china/" rel="external nofollow">limited to China and South Korea</a>. However, later it was claimed that the device would <a href="https://www.neowin.net/news/samsung-galaxy-s25-edge-could-launch-in-the-us-on-may-30-price-also-leaked/" rel="external nofollow">arrive in the US</a> and other regions too by the end of May. But now, the official launch teaser, courtesy of reliable leaker <a href="https://x.com/evleaks/status/1917673864131203234" rel="external nofollow">Evan Blass</a>, suggests that the European debut will happen half a month earlier than the US, which was <a href="https://www.nieuwemobiel.nl/041212/24519/Exclusief-Dit-is-de-lanceerdatum-van-de-Samsung-Galaxy-S25-Edge.html" rel="external nofollow">Samsung's alleged plan after all</a>.
</p>

<p>

</figure>

<p>
	The leaked teaser features a tagline, "Beyond Slim," highlighting the slim profile of the Galaxy S25 Edge. Then there is the launch date, mentioned in Italian "13 Maggio 2025," which translates to 13 May 2025. This will be the fourth device in the Galaxy S25 lineup. But that doesn't stop there, as Samsung is expected to launch the <a href="https://www.neowin.net/news/samsung-could-use-exynos-2500-soc-to-power-galaxy-z-fold7-fe-and-s25-fe/" rel="external nofollow">Galaxy S25 FE later this year</a>, making it the fifth device in the series.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	The Galaxy S25 Edge is expected to <a href="https://www.neowin.net/news/samsung-galaxy-s25-edge-tipped-to-be-584mm-thin-confirmed-specs-also-surface/" rel="external nofollow">measure just 5.84mm</a> without the camera module, feature a 12MP selfie, and a 200MP primary camera. The display will be protected by Gorilla Glass Victus 2 and will have a 120Hz refresh rate panel with a peak brightness reaching 2,600 nits.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	There are rumors of the device packing 12GB of RAM and a vapour chamber thinner than the Galaxy S25. A <a href="https://www.neowin.net/news/samsung-galaxy-s25-edge-battery-specification-revealed-and-its-disappointing/" rel="external nofollow">3,900mAh battery</a> could power the device. It has been tipped that the Galaxy S25 Edge could cost around $1,099 to $1,199 in the US.

	The Play Store lost 1.8 million of the 3.4 million apps it started 2024 with.
</h3>

<p>
	The Google Play Store shed 1.8 million apps since the beginning of last year, according to an analysis <a href="https://appfigures.com/" rel="external nofollow">from Appfigures</a> and reported <a href="https://techcrunch.com/2025/04/29/google-play-sees-47-decline-in-apps-since-start-of-last-year/?guccounter=1" rel="external nofollow">earlier by <em>TechCrunch</em></a>. That makes up around 47 percent of the 3.4 million apps it started 2024 with — a decline that Google spokesperson Dan Jackson says reflects the company’s focus on “delivering high-quality apps” and “commitment to continuous improvements for user safety.”
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	In recent years, Google has ramped up efforts to crack down on spammy and low-quality apps. In 2023, the company <a href="https://www.androidpolice.com/ensuring-high-quality-apps-on-google-play/" rel="external nofollow">started carrying out more thorough app reviews</a> and began requiring developers to test their apps with at least 20 people for two weeks. It <a href="/2024/7/19/24201756/google-play-store-update-purge-low-quality-android-apps" rel="">began purging apps</a> with “limited functionality and content” last year, and announced in January <a href="https://security.googleblog.com/2025/01/how-we-kept-google-play-android-app-ecosystem-safe-2024.html" rel="external nofollow">that it blocked 2.36 million policy-violating apps</a> from being published to the Play Store.

	As shown by data from Appfigures, nearly 200,000 of the titles removed from the Google Play Store were in the “games” category, followed by 160,700 in education, and 115,400 in business. However, Appfigures shows that app releases are up 7.1 percent globally compared to the same time last year.

	“Every year, we continue to invest in more ways to protect our community and fight bad actors, so users can trust the apps they download from Google Play and developers can build thriving businesses,” Jackson said in a statement to <em>The Verge</em>.

<p>
	Though the Google Play Store may have lost a significant number of apps since last year, Appfigures’ data shows Apple’s App Store making a small jump from 1.6 million to 1.64 million apps.

	The popular side-scrolling arcade-style mobile game, <em>Flappy Bird</em>, has finally returned for Android users after a decade of being dormant. The free-to-download game is currently only available through the Epic Games Store.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	For those who don't know, <em>Flappy Bird</em> was released in 2013 by the Vietnamese indie game maker Dong Nguyen. The addictive game became a sleeper hit and gained popularity, topping charts on Google Play and the App Store.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	The game featured graphics similar to Nintendo's classic Mario games and reached over 50 million downloads. However, its journey was short-lived as the original developer pulled the plug on it in February 2014. Nguyen reportedly earned $50,000 a day but <a href="https://www.neowin.net/news/flappy-bird-removed-from-google-play-store-ios-app-store/" rel="external nofollow">claimed back</a> then that the game was "ruining his life."
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	<em>Flappy Bird</em> was a sensation big enough that people started selling iPhones pre-installed with the game on eBay <a href="https://www.neowin.net/news/iphone-5s-with-flappy-bird-game-pre-installed-has-99900-bid-on-ebay/" rel="external nofollow">for thousands of dollars</a>. A developer managed to clone the game with a few hours of effort, and a version of <em>Flappy Bird</em> <a href="https://www.neowin.net/news/flappy-bird-returns-as-flappy-birds-family/" rel="external nofollow">launched for Fire TV</a>.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	However, a dramatic turn happened in 2024 when Nguyen lost the game's trademark to Gametech Holdings, and an unofficial reboot arrived under the name "<em>The Flappy Bird Foundation.</em>" The unofficial version attracted negative reactions for bringing cryptocurrency into the picture.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	<em>Flappy Bird</em>'s original developer <a href="https://www.neowin.net/news/flappy-birds-original-creator-officially-distances-himself-from-the-upcoming-new-version/" rel="external nofollow">posted a message</a> on X (formerly Twitter), officially distancing himself from the new game. "No, I have no related with their game. I did not sell anything. I also don't support crypto."
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	It was <a href="https://www.neowin.net/news/remember-flappy-bird-it-is-returning-to-ios-and-android/" rel="external nofollow">known last year</a> that the Android and iOS versions of the "rehatched" <em>Flappy Bird</em> would arrive sometime in 2025. According to its <a href="https://flappybird.org/" rel="external nofollow">official website</a> and store listing, the latest <em>Flappy Bird</em> for Android features new characters, challenges, and worlds for players to get invested.

	</div>
</div>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	Players can flap in the Classic mode or the new Quest mode in the web2-only game to test their tapping and timing skills, guiding Flappy to new worlds through pipes and obstacles. However, the game has steered clear of cryptocurrency this time. Its version 1.1 on the <a href="https://store.epicgames.com/en-US/mobile/android" rel="external nofollow">Epic Games Store</a> weighs about 129MB in download size and requires Android 6.0 or later to run.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	<em>Flappy Bird</em>'s iOS version is also in development without a release timeline. "We have plans in the works for other platforms but we don’t have any other news to share at this time!" its makers <a href="https://x.com/flappy_bird/status/1917279854313234500" rel="external nofollow">said</a>.

	Rumors have been circulating on the internet that Samsung hasn't <a href="https://www.neowin.net/news/samsung-allegedly-betting-on-exynos-2500-for-its-upcoming-galaxy-z-flip7/" rel="external nofollow">lost confidence</a> in last year's Exynos 2500 processor. Notably, Exynos 2500 was originally expected to power the Galaxy S25 series. But due to low yield rates, Samsung was forced to use the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Elite processor globally instead.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	Samsung is expected to introduce an affordable Galaxy Z Flip7 FE later this year. It was suggested that <a href="https://www.neowin.net/news/samsung-could-use-galaxy-s24-fes-chip-inside-the-galaxy-z-flip7-fe/" rel="external nofollow">Exynos 2400e</a>, found inside the Galaxy S24 FE, could be used inside this budget-friendly clamshell. Now, a fresh report claims that the elder sibling, the Galaxy Z Flip7, will also come equipped with an Exynos processor.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	According to the Korean publication <a href="https://biz.chosun.com/it-science/ict/2025/04/30/RWBN4JJZORCNLABVSJKOMQGA4Q/" rel="external nofollow">Chosun Daily</a>, Samsung has started mass production of the Galaxy Z Flip7 with the Exynos 2500 processor. If true, this would mark the first time a Samsung foldable phone is powered by an Exynos processor. As far as the <a href="https://www.neowin.net/news/leaked-galaxy-z-flip7-and-z-fold7-accessories-reveal-key-design-information/" rel="external nofollow">Galaxy Z Fold7</a> is concerned, there is still no information about which processor it will use.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	An industry insider shared, "The decision to use Exynos instead of Qualcomm was largely due to price. I understand that they judged that the yield had stabilized to some extent. The fact that foldable phones have lower shipments than the Galaxy S series also worked in favor of using Exynos. However, the Exynos 2500 will not be used in the ‘Galaxy Z Fold7."
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	Samsung may have chosen to use Exynos SoC inside the Galaxy Z Flip7 because it sells less than the Galaxy S25 series. Also, since Qualcomm has reportedly raised the prices of its chipsets, it makes sense for Samsung to start focusing on and producing its advanced SoCs for future smartphones.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	This year, the Galaxy Z Flip7 is expected to feature <a href="https://www.neowin.net/news/it-might-not-be-a-folder-type-cover-display-on-the-galaxy-z-flip7-after-all/" rel="external nofollow">a full-screen cover display</a>, whereas the folder-style display has allegedly been reserved for the <a href="https://www.neowin.net/news/so-this-is-how-the-samsung-galaxy-z-flip7-fe-will-look-different-from-the-galaxy-z-flip7/" rel="external nofollow">Galaxy Z Flip7 FE</a>. There are also reports that Samsung could hold its second Unpacked <a href="https://www.neowin.net/news/samsung-could-unpack-galaxy-z-flip7-and-z-fold7-in-new-york-this-year/" rel="external nofollow">event of the year in New York</a>.

	Google is finally bringing Material Design 3 to Gmail for iPhone. The company announced that the new Gmail interface will be available to all Workspace users and those with personal Google accounts, starting this week.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	Material Design 3 (also known as Material You) was launched back in 2021 alongside the Android 12 update. The <a href="https://www.neowin.net/news/android-12-will-come-with-theming-options-called-material-you/" rel="external nofollow">design language focuses</a> on more animations and visual customizations at the entry level, allowing users to change line thickness, size of UI elements, and more.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	Google gradually <a href="https://www.neowin.net/news/the-new-gmail-redesign-is-headed-your-way-soon/" rel="external nofollow">updated Gmail's web version</a> and other apps with the new design language, but the iPhone's turn came after almost four years. Last year, it <a href="https://www.neowin.net/news/google-calendar-on-the-web-gets-a-material-you-based-dark-theme/" rel="external nofollow">added a new</a> Material You-based dark theme to the web version of Google Calendar.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	Another Gmail feature that has been available on Android for a year is now coming to iPhone. Google Workspace customers and users with personal accounts can create and modify birthday events in the Gmail app on iOS.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	However, what could be a Google <a href="https://workspaceupdates.googleblog.com/2025/04/release-notes-04-25-2025.html" rel="external nofollow">announcement</a> without the <a href="https://www.neowin.net/news/google-uses-genai-to-recreate-the-wizard-of-oz-for-the-16k-led-screen-at-las-vegas-sphere/" rel="external nofollow">mention of artificial intelligence</a>? The Gemini side panel in Gmail for Android and iOS is being updated with image generation capabilities. The feature is already available on the web; users can save, copy, or insert the AI-generated image into a compose draft.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	Google said that image generation is rolling out to select Workspace tiers, including Business Starter/Standard/Plus, Enterprise Starter/Standard/Plus, Google One AI Premium, and those with Gemini add-ons.

<p>
	The search giant is rolling out draggable dividers for Gmail and Google Chat users on Android devices with large screens. Users can pick between a one-pane or two-pane layout and control the width of each pane when in two-pane mode.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	Apart from that, a new update is coming to Google's video editor Vids, allowing users to control the height of the timeline to view more objects when working on timing for individual scenes. These new features add to the list of Workspace updates Google pushed this week, including <a href="https://www.neowin.net/news/google-slides-gets-more-high-quality-templates-to-elevate-your-presentations/" rel="external nofollow">high-quality templates for Google Slides</a> and <a href="https://www.neowin.net/news/data-classifications-labels-for-gmail-leaves-open-beta-now-generally-available/" rel="external nofollow">data classification labels for Gmail</a>.

	A lot of leaks have emerged about the upcoming slim phone from Apple, the iPhone 17 Air, which is expected to replace the "Plus" model in the lineup. This year, Apple is expected to introduce a <a href="https://www.neowin.net/news/iphone-17-pro-max-mockups-show-a-new-design-with-a-horizontal-camera-module/" rel="external nofollow">redesigned camera module</a> on the back of its iPhone lineup, which will house a triple camera module inside a rectangular box-shaped pill that stretches across the width of the back.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	It has been tipped that the phone will be incredibly thin, <a href="https://www.neowin.net/news/the-iphone-17-air-alleged-to-be-95mm-thick-including-the-camera-hump/" rel="external nofollow">measuring just 5.5mm</a>. Dummy units of the <a href="https://www.neowin.net/news/iphone-17-air-dummy-leaks-magsafe-and-action-button-are-here/" rel="external nofollow">entire iPhone 17 series</a>, including the iPhone 17 Air, have popped up <a href="https://www.neowin.net/news/leaked-iphone-17-series-dummy-units-highlight-part-glass-back-panel/" rel="external nofollow">a few times</a> in the past, giving us a glimpse at the device's design.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	Now, reliable leaker <a href="https://x.com/SonnyDickson/status/1915300506437849347" rel="external nofollow">Sonny Dickson</a> has shared some images of the dummy units of the iPhone 17 series. Based on the images, the iPhone 17 Air looks remarkably thin, almost as thin as the USB-C port at the bottom. The images show the purported iPhone 17, iPhone 17 Air, iPhone 17 Pro, and iPhone 17 Pro Max from the side and bottom angles.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	Since Apple has had a fair share of issues with slim phones in the past (the infamous iPhone 6's <a href="https://www.neowin.net/news/bentgate-apple-iphone-6-plus-owners-complain-that-their-handsets-are-bending/" rel="external nofollow">Bend Gate issue</a>), for the iPhone 17 Air, the company is expected to be using a mix of titanium and aluminum chassis for the iPhone to ensure it can withstand bending.
</p>

<p>

</figure>

<p>
	To achieve the rumored 5.5mm thinness, Apple has decided to equip the iPhone 17 Air with a single 48MP camera, eSIM globally, Apple's <a href="https://www.neowin.net/news/all-upcoming-iphone-17-models-may-feature-apples-in-house-wi-fi-chip/" rel="external nofollow">in-house designed Wi-Fi chip</a>, and ultra-efficient C1 modem, recently introduced with iPhone 16e.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	Not everything's a downgrade, as the iPhone 17 Air, similar to other models in the lineup, is expected to get an <a href="https://www.neowin.net/news/entire-iphone-17-lineup-to-rock-an-upgraded-24mp-selfie-camera/" rel="external nofollow">upgraded 24MP selfie camera</a>.
